  • Review: These people are crooks. They denied my claim after weeks of wrangling with them. They said the plumbing work was not covered because another plumber had damaged it, even though the plumbers who did the work said that it was just old pipe that had no evidence of damage. The First American rep lied to me on two occasions. I am taking my claim to the insurance commissioner's office and getting a lawyer. It has been an awful waste of time and I have little hope of getting any satisfaction, but if I can talk one person out of using this company it will be worth the trouble of this review.

  • Review: This is the worst company I have ever worked with in my life. I had standing water in my living room. I called 2-10. They sent out this hack plumber who jackhammered my living room floor to see if that was where the leak was. It was not. The guy randomly started cutting holes in the drywall around the bathrooms, broke my master tub drain fitting, charged me over a grand, and left. I have since had 2 plumbers out who told me that this guy scammed me, and the work he did was unnecessary and destructive. 2-10 disavows any wrongdoing (they have no standard for their subcontractors, only that they are licensed and insured).I have filed a complaint with the BBB on the plumber. I am taking both the plumber and 2-10 to small claims court because of the damage they did to my property. I have repeatedly asked for their registered agent in my area and their customer dis-service reps did not seem to understand what that is. The office of the president did not even provide me with this information when I asked. I had to go to the secretary of state. It amazes me that companies like this can stay in business. Stay far away from this racket.

  • Review: i called ahs on new year's day (011\12) in the early a.m. because my heater went out. the service rep was nice and submitted the request as an emergency repair. what happened afterwards is a true nightmare. a service tech came out and stated ahs should have replaced my furnace when there was a problem before, but they did not, so it went out again. the tech informed ahs of this and they stated they just wanted the part repaired regardless of the fact myself and my 3 year old baby were in a home without heat in freezing degree weather. the tech stated the part had to come from the original company and i was told it may be that tuesday (01/03/12) my heater would be repaired. thankfully the weather warmed up. the tech nor ahs called me back to let me know i would not be getting my heater repaired. i called them both (ahs and the tech of tqs) and i was then informed it would be 01/10\12 before this part would be in for the repair. on 01/10/12, once again, i did not hear from anyone. i called the tech of tqs who informed me it would be 01/20/12 and they don't understand why ahs told me it would be 01/10/12. at this point i am livid. i called ahs and they then informed me it would be 01/20/12 and georgia was heading for freezing wheather again. this meant my 3 year baby and myself are once again without heat. the service rep with ahs was extremely nice and sympathetic but could not do anything for me. i asked for a supervisor, who was not helpful at all, all she did was repeated the same spill everyone was giving me that ahs will only cover labor and that part had to come from the original company. remember it was ahs fought i am in this situation to begin with. i got a call from ahs on yesterday (01\12\12 stating they would replace the furnace, but guess what they said, they don't pay to have it put in up to code which means $1,080.00 has to be paid by me. where am i suppose to get this money from. ahs could care less. the rep then said there is a pay out option they have, which means they would pay me and i can get it repaired. guess how much they would pay for this $659.00. unbelievable! then i was told they would not pay it up front i would have to pay it and then a receipt would need to be given to them and they would pay the lesser cost if it does to come up to $659.00. are you kidding me. where can i come up with $659.00 and then have someone replace the furnance and put it in up to code for this amount of money. and don't forget they would have to do it at their expense because i don't have the money. to date (01\13\12 my 3 year baby and myself are in a home with no heat in freezing temperatures again. it seems like we won't have a heater. ahs only concern was frustrating the cramp out of me and they end up not paying for anything. don't use this company at all they suck.

  • Review: Having multiple issues with AHS after having paid for the policy for years. Now when some help needed I have come to realize the service is basically useless. Just a couple of examples 1. Contractor who came to inspect broken furnace wanted to sell around AHS and for me to do a deal directly with him. Obviously not somebody to trust. When pointed out to AHS (multiple times) I was told to accept this contractor - or get pennies on the $ in terms of "buyout" 2. When repair finally scheduled, technicians found that AC unit also needs to be replaced. Turns out AHS won't do that short of sending another person out (from same co), look at unit, charge us $60, then schedule same guys to come out and replace it. Thus $120 of service fees, long delay, time wasted. I was naive enough to believe that this kind of semi-corrupt, bureacratic and indifferent behavior would lead to a company not surviving. Guess I was wrong Almost worse than all of this, it seems like nobody in the company cares the least. The poor people one gets on the phone are clearly not allowed to (1) deviate from script (2) think (3) provide any service. If you are thinking about a home warranty and my experience is any reflection of most peoples' experience - stay away from AHS

  • Review: Purchased home that included 2 yr Warranty with Home Protect. Immediately my A/C unit went out.....I was told that it was not covered due to pre existing issues also to poor maintenance. I was stuck with out A/C for the rest of the summer and have to save for an A/C unit. Called again a few monthes later. This time I was smart enough to ask if the electrical unit on the outside was covered before having them send someone here and them paying a service fee just to have a claim denied. They stated since the outlet was located on the outside of the house it would not be covered. I then asked about the main shut off valve that was frozen open they also stated since it was not attached to a major appliance that it was not covered. Now I ask to cancell my warranty I figured even though it was pay for by Freddie Mac at least they would not be recieving monies for service they don't provide. They stated that I could not cancell since the warranty came with the home. I am lucky that I am handy enough to repair some of these issues my self. This company is a Scam !!!!!!

  • Review: We have just moved into a home and had to call for repair of the stove cooktop, double oven display board and the refrigerator ice maker. The service calls from each contractor making the repairs were immediate and the repairs were done timely and completely. The oven display was not repairable and since they don't make this type of oven anymore, we were offered a brand new oven. We are completely satisfied with AHS. We have complete home coverage that includes the extended service contract. You must get this part of the deal if you want to make sure you are getting everything you need covered. It is worth every penny.

  • Review: My A/C went out last week. I called for service and immediately was given the name & number of a contractor. Made an appt, the first service contractor came the following business day and diagnosed the problem. The next day, Tues, I received a call from the Warranty company and said they were sending another contractor. I was told the first contractors wanted the job re-assigned. Don't know why. The second contractor did not show up the next day as agreed. I called the Warranty company back. The customer service rep was extremely courteous and tried to resolve the problem. She gave me the name of a third contractor, who she also called and gave them my info. This contractor came out, diagnosed the problem and said they would be back the next day to fix it. they had to order the part. The blower was bad. I paid my $75 co-pay to the contractor. The next day, the contractor called with the part as promised and arranged to fix it. The Warranty company had called the contractor and told them they would pay 100% of the charges. The contractor not only came to fix my A/C, but they issued me a check for $75 for the return of my deductible. I paid nothing. My A/C works great and the Warranty company has followed up. I am a happy camper. I only had this insurance for less than 60 days. I am happy with it thus far, needless to say. It took one week from the time I first placed the call to the time it was fixed, therefore I had to rate the service a 4 in timeliness. Otherwise, everything else was great.

  • Review: I got AHS as an add-on from the sellers to our house contract when we closed with them. Don't worry I still understand that I paid for it when the house closed, but it "felt" free to me. After closing I read all these negative reviews on AHS and their contractors and I was shocked! Maybe I should have just asked for $600 lower in the house price??!!! I was nervous about what my experience would be like, since I bought a 1930's house and was prepared to be fixing a lot of things. Here is my review about half way into my AHS contract. So far I have used them for three calls: 1) Bathroom tub would not stop leaking and I broke one of the handles trying to tighten down the handle to stop the leak. Very stupid of me. Called AHS (wait time 15 minutes) filed a service request with a customer service rep (very nice btw). The plumber company called the same day, we agreed they would come out the next day between 8am-12pm. The plumber showed up literately at 11:59 am, but he was very apologetic because he had another emergency sewer backup that went everywhere [gross]. (He smelled like it as well so I believed him). Looked at my problem, but didn't have the correct part. So he drove down to the Home Depot closest to my house and picked up the part and then came immediately back! Installed a new handle stem and two washers to stop the leak. When I broke the handle I also messed up part of the cosmetic part was well. He mentioned it to me and explained that AHS would not cover it since it was only cosmetic, which was true and CLEARLY printed out in the contract. So I was fine with it. Afterwards, I mentioned I was a new home owner and we talked for a little bit. He even went around my house and talked about my whole plumbing systems and offered some advice on some concerns that I had that were reported in our home inspection. Very helpful! 2) My toilet flooded the house! Turns out it was just the supply line running from the wall to the toilet that broke, but I though it was something bigger. Submitted my request online at night (~5 minutes). Same plumber service woke me up the next morning with a call at 8 am. Said they were busy and couldn't get to me till the next day from 8am to 12pm. That was fine with me since I was able to get the water leak to stop without affect the whole house. Plumber came at 10:30 am. Showed him the problem, replaced the supply line and was gone. He wasn't much of a talker, but it looked like he had bigger fish to fry and I was just happy to have it fixed so that I could finish cleaning up the flood in my basement. 3) A/C - Sunday night A/C would turn on but no cool air would come out. Tried the online submission but their system was down! I tried calling but the phone system was down as well, seems like the operators just use the same online system as the customers. Note: they were accepting medical/emergency calls, but since my wife and I are relatively young we decided to tough it out. The system wasn't up and running till Tuesday night, so yes that was mildly annoying but I could deal with it. (If this didn't happen I would have given AHS a 5 star in customer service, but an outage that long without any real update on the status to the public is a big deal). Filed an online request Tuesday night. The A/C contractor called at 7:45 am the next day, I slept through the ringing. Called them back at 10:45 am. They said they could be there the same day between 12-3pm. I agreed and rushed home from work. The contractor showed up at 12:15! He was awesome, very cheery and talked a lot with me. When describing the issue and looking over the initial A/C unit he was saying he might have to replace the compressor motor and the process that it would be to get one replaced, but when we opened it up it was the capacitor. He keep saying how lucky I was and we shared a good laugh at how much the capacitor blew up. (he mentioned it was the worst capacitor blow up he has seen in the field, so I feel honored I get that title). Replaced it and in 15 minutes had A/C going again. Afterwards we talked a little longer and he gave me a few tips to improve my A/C units life. Aside from the internet site issue I have been very happy with AHS and I think a lot a these reviews come from internet tough guys that come on here to vent (which is understandable because bad things happen a lot in the insurance/warranty business), but I think what happens is when things go right with AHS no one reports them. I feel my review is honest. Not everything went right or was covered under my warranty but a lot things did go right, and there are a lot of good people that are just trying to make a living and do the best they can. Sure you will run into some bad apples, but don't get mad, it will only effect you and give you less power in working with contractors. Learn to be stern, but kind and understanding. I wish more people would take this to heart. My advice for everyone with AHS: 1) Don't be a cump, use the online service request for your initial request. Only use the phone if you have to follow up with AHS. 2) Talk with the actual contractors to get the job done. Some of the reviews seem like they expect AHS to completely talk with the contractors and the issue magically goes away. Remember they are just the money man/rule maker. :) 3) Don't be an @$$hole to the contractors, first they have to deal with you (and sometimes the problems you create - yours truly included) and the bureaucratic nature of warranty companies. Remember what I said about people above. 4) Read your contract, AHS and contractors sure as hell do! I bet half the complaints on this site would go away if they read their contracts. Stuff will get rejected, man up and deal with it if it is the contract. Remember you signed it! If they are making stuff up then is the time to be mad, and get second opinions. 5) Understand at the end on the day companies like AHS need to make money and will always take the path of least resistance. Don't think they will buy you a brand new $3k A/C unit when a ~$500 (generous guess) compressor motor goes out. If you want brand new units and top of the line service get Angie's list and an ING savings account for your emergency fund. I have one for a big day! Will I renew? Maybe not, but not because of the service, but because I do have that emergency fund now and can put another $600 dollars into it in about 6 months when I would have renewed my AHS. It really has nothing to do with AHS.

TotaL Protect Gold warranty claims "you can feel completely safe & sound in your home once you're under this warranty". False!!! My children & I were without air the first week of August in AtLanta, Georgia, only to find out my claim was DENIED due to lack of maintenance to my unit. Maintenance records were not requested to take my money. This company is terrible. From customer service, which consisted of mutiple recorded messages, to the poor service provider that made sure he received my deductible without ever charging up my unit. Do your research on this terrible warranty service. Sure wish I did!!!

  • Review: Where do I start??!!! DO NOT CHOOSE OLD REPUBLIC AS YOUR HOME WARRANTY PLAN!!!!!!!!!WASTE OF YOUR TIME AND MONEY!!!! Please do not choose Old Republic just because your real estate agency recommends this home warranty plan as a part of your house buying process!!!! 1) They use the cheapest, most inept contractors!! One guy came out to look at my microwave and didn't even know how open the microwave to look at the control panel. Our leak under our sink was repaired only to start leaking again in a week. 2) No communication between the contractors and old republic and between old republic and the home owners! 3) Our high end built in microwave/ convection oven is worth $1300-1400 and they settled cash for what the parts were worth which was $630. IT TOOK 7-8 WEEKS TO RECEIVE THIS DECISION AND IT WILL BE ANOTHER 2-3 WEEKS BEFORE WE RECEIVE THE CHECK. THAT'S A TOTAL OF 10-12 WEEKS!!!!!

  • Review: AHS is not capable of honoring big ticket repairs such as HVAC. My claim started months ago and at the time my HVAC system was not fully inspected to address all of the issues (Faulty Compressor and Freon leak in coil). It has taken multiple trips(~8 total) from 4 different contractors (Each appointment is approx 1 week or more apart) in order to diagnose the problem with our system. Now my AC failed two weeks ago due to faulty install and after getting a second opinion ($60 fee) from another AHS contractor confirming the failed install AHS will only honor warranty repair if the original contractor who performed the work does the repair. The crux is that although the AHS contract from whom we obtained second opinion has the parts and can perform this work immediately we have to wait at least another 4 days for the original contractor to come out and determine the parts required, get approval from AHS, and then up to another week for them to be delivered. AHS is doing this because they paid the contractor. The contractor doesn’t want to come back out to do free work so in the end AHS hopes you just give up. We're looking at a minimum of 4 weeks (July) without a functioning HVAC. When I ask customer service if this way of doing business makes sense from a customer service standpoint I am told "Your contract allows us to use whomever we choose as long as they are licensed. We do not insure that they are competent". And they wonder why we didn’t renew. AHS is fine for appliance related issues, but they simply have no intention of adequately addressing big $$ problems. Their policy is to cause as much grief as possible so that you give up and/or take a band-aid approach which if it doesn’t work then it’s back to the game of delay…delay…delay.

Each repair requires multiple customer service calls - usually on hold for 5-20 minutes just to speak to someone. Our most recent and 'last straw' was they are actually denying coverage on a repair something that was repaired 3 years earlier by the contractor they sent - so they are essentially denying to cover it because it isn't up to code and they are the ones that did it wrong in the first place.

This has been the worse experience ever. They have been placing bandaids and duct tape over our AC instead of repalcing it. I assume it will never be replaced because when our stove broke, the customer service person told me they would replace it with what they felt was an appriate stove to match our but they would pick the color and type. I had no say. he also said they are in the business of fixing and not replacing. If they replaced everything they would never make money! I see where customer satisfaction falls now.

  • Review: I originally decided to purchase a warranty through AHS based on the recommendation of a friend. I should have read the reviews here first. My A/C went out about two weeks ago. I called AHS on a Tuesday. They sent me the info on the subcontractor and never got a call. That should have been my first warning. I finally called the subcontractor and got an appointment two days later (Thursday). A little sidebar - living in Atlanta during the Summer, the heat can get oppressive very quickly. I couldn't live in my house while the A/C was out because the upstairs quickly surpasses 100 degrees. So the only option is to stay with friends or get a hotel room. Anyway, when the repair person came out, after about 20 minutes, he said I needed a new compressor. He said it would be there either the next day, or Saturday, or at the latest, on Monday. After not hearing anything by late Monday, I called the subcontractor and the person I spoke with said the repairman shouldn't have told me that. It would be anywhere from 3-10 BUSINESS days. So I called at the end of five more business days after no one from either AHS or the subcontractor had called to update me. Now they tell me the part should arrive the following Wednesday. If it does arrive then, it will have been 13 days and then they'll have to schedule someone to come out and actually install the compressor. Throughout this whole process, I have NEVER received one call from AHS. Also, I don't even know if this will cost me to have the compressor installed. This whole process has been an example of customer service at its absolute WORST !! The people at AHS should try living without A/C in 95 degree weather for a few weeks. Maybe they would get a small sliver of a clue.

They play a recording in the background that makes it sound like they are taking "many" calls from many clients. No Contractors -They do not have contractors under obligation - they call for contractors on each claim. They literally sent my "possible" contractor an email "do you need extra work?" Our client needs a garbage disposal repaired - she pays the first $65 and we pay the rest. The contractor called me and refused to come out due to the lack of professionalism of Home Choice. He had also been contacted to do work with another Home Choice client and she too articulated her concerns. The contractor indicated that they would prefer not to do business w/ Home Choice and thought that this organization might be less than ethical, or a scam. I have submitted a claim to American Express. Once a claim has been submitted to American Express regarding a vendor - they can be refused to charge using AE. My next step in Visa and MasterCard. I do not tolerate un-ethical business practices.

Never filed permit with county but he took my money. Ripoff company. AHS does nothing to insure their customers are not taken advantage of.
