- Review: My main breaker is located outside my home, but INSIDE my meter box. I found out that this entire panel needed to be replaced about 3 weeks after the purchase of my home, after the lights began to dim at various times--at a cost of about $2,000. After being told by Old Republic this was covered (after paying a $75 technical call fee, 1 other electrical company gave me the same quote for free), Old Republic called back to tell me it wasn't covered. I called back to reverify and clear up confusion over what the panel was, they talked again with the contractor THEY CHOOSE, then told me it would be covered, or at least some portions would be covered. Only to be called back the next day to be told that it WOULD NOT be covered. Seriously??? I probably used several choice words I shouldn't have, but they insist that this is the METER BOX, not the main breaker panel. I offered to send pictures, I told them that even Alabama Power said this was the "main breaker panel", but Old Republic insists that it's the meter box and they're not paying. So, my first interaction with this company is that they're not at all there to help, they're only looking for ways NOT to cover items, and I have wasted my money. I also have a friend who's A/C unit went out, and it took him 3 months to finally clear up this confusion. Unless you believe your appliances are on their last leg, and the A/C unit hasn't been inspected by a licensed company, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS! Also, read the fine print...I purchased the "Ultimate Protection" that lists #8 as including the Garage Door Opener...however the fine print next to it reads (with the purchase of the garage door opener option) at an extra $25. And of course, my garage door opener went out today, and no coverage. Gotta love the fine print!

- Review: DO NOT SUPPORT HOME WARRANTY OF AMERICA! Last summer I moved into my house, and the AC was not cooling. In Birmingham, the temperature got up to 103 degrees every day. This company was absolutely terrible!!! They sent out THREE rinky dink companies over the course of three months, none of which were competent enough to identify the problem, much less fix it! After about 30 days with no air conditioning in record breaking heat, I called HWA crying- Literally begging for their help. The woman on the phone called me an ugly name which I can't mention, and was so incredibly rude, so much so that I filed my first complaint ever with any company! It being my fourth Friday with no AC and the weekend approaching, I called the (first, and at that time, only) company they sent out (Air Repair in Birmingham, AL) to find out where their office was located so I could go sit in there until someone would help me. Come to find, all of their employees work from home and they don't have an office. The next two companies they sent out were no different. Of course, each company couldn't identify the problem, so HWA refused to have any part in putting in a new AC. A year later I had to buy a new Air Conditioning system. Additionally, I had water flooding in my kitchen that was due to the horizontal piping. Come to find, HWA only covers plumbing problems having to do with the vertical piping, so then I was out the cost for the repairs, and the deductible to have their repairman come out! Lastly, my hot water heater went out in the winter. They paid a small fraction of the cost to replace it, but refused to pay the upgrades that had to be done to accommodate a new one. The upgrade fees cost more than the hot water heater!! A couple thousand dollars later, my hot water heater still acts up and will go from hot to cold to scalding when I'm in the shower. I hope this company goes out of business because they lie and cheat and take people's money. You're better off saving the money you'd spend on HWA and putting that toward all the things they won't fix.

- Review: this company sucks and is a rip off. today you can't trust anyone. i've never had a company that says the customer is wrong and the vendor was right. They overcharge on parts and then say it's not under contract and expect you to pay ridiculous prices. do do not use this company and if you ask me from the reviews i've read about other home warranty companies it's best not to have any warranty on your home and try somehow to do the repairs yourself. Can't wait to cancel this worthless company.

- Review: Oh my! I thought it was just me that had such bad luck w/ 210. I feel for all of you waiting on your AC!!! Live in AL, did the no air for 2 months in July!!! Not fun! But, we finally got our air replaced. You have to call them EVERYDAY!!! This company has the most worst cust. service!! Like most of you stated, they don't care! I would rate them a zero. Been with them since 2004. I am FINALLY letting them go! Up for renewal in Sept, I'm on the search for a good Home Warranty co. Do any exist, is my question???

- Review: We will NOT be renewing our home warranty with AHS. We live in Alabama and our A/C has gone out twice this summer. The first time, it took 3 days to get the company to come out to our house. We paid $60 for the guy to come out, tell us they did not make parts for our unit anymore, but that he'd fixed the problem using a rock. Seriously. However, our AC worked...and we were happy. (3 days of 100+ weather and no AC!!). This week, our AC went out again. Different problem this time. We submitted a request, but the company contracted did not call us back. I called multiple times and finally had to call AHS and have them call. I asked AHS if there were another company we could use. The guy I talked to refused. The company can not come out until Monday. It's Thursday and 90+ degrees outside with outrageous humidity. I'd call that a pretty dangerous situation. We ended up calling another company in the area who came out and fixed the problem THIS AFTERNOON. This company is insured, highly rated, and professional. The guy that came made a comment that they agree to work with AHS, but very rarely get calls from them. This is because AHS will ONLY use this terrible, redneck, unprofessional shop that will not return phone calls. They are not even bonded or rated at all. We cannot believe that we pay to have someone do as much as possible to keep us from being helped.

- Review: The a/c unit failed the day we purchased the home (we noticed it while moving in). When I called the following day for service, I was denied the claim. The customer service rep and manager referred to item 2b, which states they will only provide service for equipment that is properly installed and in a good and safe working order on the effective date of the plan. The a/c was working during the home inspection and the final walk-through, but since it failed at some point between 12:01 am and 11:59 pm on the day we closed, they refused service.

- Review: 2 years ago we moved to Birmingham and purchased a beautiful 13 yr old Brick house. Knowing that we may start to encounter some repairs we decided that a Home Warranty may be a good idea. The AHS add looked great. I seemed to cover all the items we were concerned about (air conditioner, furnace, range/oven, water heater). (Note: SEEMED to cover.) Well, this past summer our air conditioner went out. It took them a week to get someone to look at it. (A week without air during peak Summer in Alabama is NO fun.) You could hear the motor try to start but the fan would never kick on. Did they replace the motor? (of course not). The technition greased the shaft and manually push-started the fan. (Wasted $60). I later had another company check it (another $60). They told me it was drawing high amps and the motor would not last much longer. But AHS would not replace the unit or the motor!! So, guess what I have to look forward to next summer. Now its Winter and the fun with our Furnace begins. I have it cleaned and inspected to ensure that I am Compliant with the terms of the AHS policy ($65). The technition shows me that the Heat Exchanger has a hole and is leaking carbon monoxide. He said its not safe to operate and I need to let the Warranty Co. know about it. The next day AHS sends someone from another company to inspect it. He agrees with the first technition, turns off the gas, and charges me another $60. Well, a week later AHS did determine that it was covered, but told me there could be some "non-covered" items if the new unit was not the same size. All is good in my mind (probably about $200-$300 I'll have to cover). Nope. 2 days later they tell me the furnace is on order, but I will have to agree to $700 non-covered fees. When I told them that sounded too high, they told me I could get a Cash payout and use someone else to replace it. They said they would have someone from that Dept call me. Well with no calls the next day, I inquired into the status. "It takes 48-72 hrs to process that request", I was told. Well is the unit still on order? "No, it was put on hold when you requested a cash payout". So, I started getting quotes from local HVAC companies. They were all $2500-3500. I'm thinking, AHS probably pay me $1500, and I can find someone liscensed to install it for about $2000 (it will still be better than the $700). Well after 3 days they did call to let me know they would be mailing a check for $543. Now I see why the Service Companies don't like dealing with AHS either. They make zero money from AHS and have to try to collect profits from me. But with a payout of $543, all I can do is pay the $700 and bite my lip. Now after sleeping in Mummy bags for 2 weeks, its scheduled to be replaced tomorrow. The AHS add should read: Avg cost to replace furnace - $2671 Avg cost to repair furnace - $270 With an AHS policy - $60 (....really we'll just pay $543, and you'll have to cover the rest!!!!!!)

- Review: Total Protect is not a reliable or creditable company. We attempted to have them repair our refrigerator when the ice and water dispenser went out -- they said it was not covered. Then we attempted to get them to repair a refrigerator in our garage when it failed, they said the warranty only covered the primary kitchen area. Finally on Tuesday night, our kitchen refrigerator stopped cooling. We called at 10 am cst to make a claim. By 2pm, we had no call from a service tech or the company. I called the tech -- he said it would be 3 days before he could come out. We called Total Protect again. They informed us 3 days was their policy -- even though we had already discarded ruined food. We asked to speak to a supervisor, after a couple of calls, we were informed that it would be 4 hours before a supervisor would be available to return our call. Finally last night at approximately 8pm, we were connected to a supervisor, who then told us that the earliest appointment would be next week with a different technician. It was unbelievable!!! The situation actually went from bad to worse, literally. Once we informed them of our intent to contact an attorney and discontinue service, we were contacted by a service tech this morning who stated that IF he had received the work order yesterday instead of this morning, he could have repaired the fridge TODAY however now it would be TOMORROW -- bring us right back to where we started! So it was more important to put forth efforts in NOT providing customer service than in working towards a solution that would be mutually benefical! Needless to say, Total Protect has received its last payment from us -- after nearly $500 in premiums for NOTHING but headache and spoiled food!

- Review: Our service experience with OLD REPUBLIC has been very poor. We purchased our home in 2008 and have had several problems that should have been covered under the home warranty plan. However, OLD REPUBLIC refused to cover ANY cost involved in the repairs. Including: A/C, plumbing, and refrigerator).

- Review: I have been with AHS for over 10 years and have seen a progressive decline of service. I am tired of AHS sending non-qualified people out that drive beat up trucks and smell of smoke wearing rags for cloths. It seems their customer service department is focused on making sure the customer is not satisfied. I've had it and will be shopping for another provider.

- Review: AHS WAS CALLED OUT TO FIX MY HOT WATER HEATER DUE TO DECREASED WATER PRESSURE AND LITTLE OR NO HOT WATER. THEY SENT A PLUMBER OUT FROM MCCLELAN PLUMBING AND I MUST HAVE BEEN HIS VERY FIRST PLUMBING JOB EVER BECAUSE HE HAD NO IDEA WHERE TO BEGIN. NEEDLESS TO SAY HE COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM SO HE TOLD ME THE PROBLEM WAS IN MY PIPE LINES AND AHS WOULD NOT COVER THAT. A $55 SERVICE CHARGE WAS STILL PAID. ABOUT A DAY LATER I CALLED ANOTHER PLUMBING COMPANY IN BIRMINGHAM, AL TO COME OUT FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. HE FOUND THE PROBLEM WITHIN AN HOUR AND TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW HOT WATER HEATER. I PAID HIM $910 TO TELL ME THAT. I LATER CALLED AHS BACK TO HAVE A PLUMBER COME OUT SO I COULD TELL THEM WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. THEY CAME OUT AND CHARGED ME ANOTHER $55 SERVICE CHARGE TO BE TOLD THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE HOT WATER HEATER BECAUSE IT WAS CORROSION IN THE PIPE THAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM. DEEPLY SADDENED, I CALLED ANOTHER PLUMBER OUT TO SEE WHAT HE COULD DO TO FIX THE PROBLEM WITHOUT ME HAVING TO PURCHASE A HOT WATER HEATER. HE FLUSHED MY PIPE LINES AND CHARGED ME $150. HOWEVER THIS DID NOT WORK AND HE LATER CHARGED ME ANOTHER $750 FOR A HOT WATER HEATER AND INSTALLATION. IT IS TERRIBLE FOR AHS TO HAVE PUT ME THROUGH ALL OF THIS TROUBLE AND STILL HAVE TO SHELL OUT A TOTAL OF $1920 FOR A HOT WATER HEATER THEY SHOULD HAVE PAID FOR FROM THE BEGINNING.!!!!
