  • Review: I called several times for a repair on my dishwasher, I paid the $50 fee and they dumped at least $100 into each time. After 4 times and $720 later (between my deductibles and the amount they dumped in) they agreed to give my $300 towards a new one, whcih cost another $150. So a $400 dishwasher ended up costing us $350 and them over $700...makes no sense and the customer service guy said the same thing. The second clain was on my roof vents. The said the flashing wasn't covered but a leak was...duh if the flashing is causing the leak why wouldn't it be covered. Eventually after several calls they agreed to send someone out and even waived the $50 deductible. The contractor came out and did a decent job, but then the warranty company demanded I pay the $50. After several phone calls and giving them the persons name that waived the fee, they gave up on getting their $50. I had good service and results from 2004-2009, but now they are tyring to pass the buck onto the consumer and take your $600 yearly fee.

  • Review: I figure if a major appliance breaks, service needs to be immediate. My AC koncked out in the middle of the summer while I was 8 months pregnant and I have another 2 year old and my husband was out of town. It was a Saturday. The contractors that they use (Duval) weren't open on the weekend - what?!?!? I complained and told them I cant be in 90+ degree weather stuffed in a house and pregnant, and they did NOT immediately escalate it although they did go back and do it, the best they could do is send someone on MONDAY. It was the summer and their people "were busy during that time with other AC problems." Maybe if they were open on the weekends working on the backup (it is the summer, what do you expect?)and fixing people's emergency problems on major appliances it would run more smoothly...

  • Review: My Heater went out last night with the temperature being 29 degrees outside. This is the 4th time I have had issues with this system. When I called to get claim put in I was told that a claim could not be entered because I had a $60 balance that needed to pay. So I payed $485 for the year and I'm being refused to be helped because of a $60 balance, which by the way was for a contractor to come out and tell me he has to go back to his office and calculate the part that was missing. He never looked at unit he just based it on what I told him. Come to find out that company was trying to scam the warranty company out of money because when the next contractor came out it didn't need anything replaced just something tightened, yet the warrant company wants me to pay for the 1st contractor that came out and did nothing.

  • Review: I have had AHS for 16yrs and have never had an issue until the last 2 years with them. My home is only 6 yrs old and since last year every time the season changes, either the a/c or heat goes out . They sent Artic Heating & Cooling out. First it was the circuit board, then a fuse, then the had to order the circuit board, replaced it, then the fuse went out, then the fuse blew again and now my heat is doing the same thinG,it was last year. I'm so sick of AHS, just don't know what to do. Hate to cancel because repairs can be expensive, but this company seems to have "Gone to the Dogs". If anyone knows of a reputable Home warranty company serving Virgina, Hampton roads, PLEASE, PLEASE,PLEASE!! send me the info@ [email protected] Thank you.

  • Review: I recently purchased my first home and an HMS warranty along with it. About 2 months after moving in, my refrigerator stops cooling. It took 3 days for the service company to come out. By that time the food had spoiled ($200 est. value). The repairman said we had a bad defroster timer and would have to order the part. It took 2 more weeks for the part to come in, at which time I had to schedule another day off of work to meet the repairman. He came and installed the part. It turns out that his diagnosis was wrong. His next move was to put in a new defroster coil, which he did not have with him. Like most people it is not easy for me to take time off of work and this company refused to work with me on scheduling a convenient time. I called HMS who was unable to get the service company to give me a better time, and unwilling to authorize another service company. I ended up having to fake a sick day from work. A week later the repair company came and installed a coil. This fixed the problem, but he was not able to reassemble the fridge in quite the same way it was originally. In all, this fiasco has taught me a valuable lesson: Cost of spoiled food: $200 Cost of warranty deductible: $100 Cost of lost wages: $500 Cost of HMS Warranty: $450 Never having to deal with HMS Home Warranty again: Priceless A new fridge from any retailer would have cost me less and come with a real warranty.

  • Review: I have had 2-10 HBW for the past 13 years. They would not renew my policy this year. No letter, no phone call. When I attempted make a claim on my A/C the agent told me my policy was not being renewed. They had no explanation and gave me an email address to contact the renewal manager. The explanation given for not renewing: "There were many business factors considered when deciding not to renew your policy". I have since emailed them back requesting a real answer as to why I was not renewed. I have received nothing from this company.

Worked with a very professional gentleman name Simon who did everything he could to get a plumber here as quickly as possible to replace our Hot water tank that was flowing water and not giving us any Hot water. Thank you SHW and Simon for an overall good experience!!! Keep up the great work!!

  • Review: I was kept on hold for over 20 minutes trying to have the detuctable waived for a repair I had already paid the deductable for. The custumor care represenative was rude and offered no help, other than to tell me that I had to again pay a deductable for a repair that suposedly was fixed the first time they came out to my residence. When it comes time for renewal, I will go with another company.

  • Review: I called them regarding a leaking water heater that had stopped working. It took two days for someone to come out and even look at the unit. They then wasted another 3 days claiming they needed to order a unit b/c they unit was "unusual". I can definitely tell you that was a lie. Then, the company claimed $600 dollars for "modifications to the house" which was just moving the exhaust pipe up on the wall 6 inches and doing a shoddy job at it. I could have spent the $600 -- got a good unit, and cut the hole myself. In addition they want more than $100 more than last year to renew the coverage. Please. I'll just save the money and do the work myself. At least I know then it will be done right.

  • Review: As of this morning I have been 7 days without heat with the average daily temperature at 29 degrees. My 22yo pregnant daughter has had to move in with friends due to the extreme cold and her condition. AHS did approve the replacement of this furnace but apparently are using a company, that according to the BBB, are no longer in business. AHS and the company "Quality Services" have stalled, lied and avoided any and all requests for timely service, explanation of the additional $745 charge which I will have to cover or verification that the company is still licensed to operate in the state of VA. According to AHS they have no set time for a repair to be completed that is at the contractor's discretion. I pointed out that there should be at least a reasonable expectation for the work to be completed in a timely and professional manner, not so according to the AHS supervisor Brandy W. @The Georgia Call centre. Interestingly enough neither she or another rep would provide me contact #'s for their supervisors and when I tried to e-mail, the AHS site denied access as my e-mail address was invalid! Same e-mail they had sent the service confirmation on. Based on comments made by the contractor and the research I have done whilst sitting in the cold, the home warranty companies are a scam that set up and endorse a climate that defruds the consumer. I am still working this issue and may resort to the small claims court. I will keep you posted.
