  • Review: My experience with the 2-10 Home Warranty is quite different from many people here. In my case, we used the warranty to make a claim for workmanship issues on our new construction home and I don't see that type of claim on any of the other reviews. First of all, we purchased a new construction home in one of the best neighborhoods in our city. It was a builder spec home and we didn’t see the house as it was being built. Upon moving in we were told 1) that the builder would provide repairs after a walk-through of the home after one year living there and 2) that he had purchased the home warranty. Since the builder appeared to have a good reputation, I really forgot about the home warranty. Anyway, nearly from the beginning we started having issues with the workmanship, namely in the form of seven different leaks. A few times the builder tried to come in and perform the repair on his own but as it turned out he was much more of a contractor and didn’t know much about the ‘how to’ himself. AND, with the recession he was like many other builders,…not currently building. A contractor doesn’t have much pull with his contractors when he isn’t sending them work and so our repairs were either very poorly done by the builder or kept getting put off with the builder saying he had favors to call in and just didn’t have the money himself to pay for them out of pocket. At one point we learned he had went completely out of business and with a leak from the outside of our home that was damaging our hardwood floors, plus another leak beneath our shower that sent water into the basement,…we felt pretty upset. Estimates put the repairs at over $7,000. THEN,…a renewal offer from the 2-10 Warranty came in the mail. I quickly looked at what was covered and figured that with over 18 months passed since he purchased the warranty we were out of luck. But I thought it could not hurt and I gave them a call and told them the story. They said, “let me get this straight,..the builder is out of business and won’t honor his builder warranty and won't help you correct?” Soon after they were guiding me through the process of how to make a claim. I was a little worried because I had to pay a $250 deductible up front. But, they got me to settle down and file the claim. They asked for some documentation and luckily I had some photos of all the disasters along the way. They asked me to have contractors that I wanted to use make estimates and I did so. They DID lower the payout a few hundred dollars for the repair work because some of what was in the estimate was put in to fully replace the shower tile and they told me they did not owe to match the tile. But overall, I still recovered over $6,000 even including what was paid out in the deductible. From start to finish it was about 3 weeks before we were fully paid. We received a check for half of the repairs within the first 10 days. Our experience was one where I felt very fortunate to have the warranty to fall back upon. We live in Indiana and I really don’t know if certain state laws make it different here than in other states.
