  • Review: We signed up when we bought our house, knowing that there would be some issues that needed to be addressed based on our home inspection. AHS has repaired the things needed, no questions asked. One time, there were several things needing repairs (all plumbing) that were taken care of with one call, and one service charge. I've been more than pleased in this respect. When our A/C quit functioning, they sent out someone and repaired it (it took them 3 days to get it scheduled), but then within the allotted 60 day repair guarantee, the unit malfuctioned again. They covered the second repair, even though it was unrelated to the first repair, and didn't charge me another service fee. My only complaint is that their cost of renewal is significantly higher than the first year price (by about $100), and they increased the price of service fee to $75 from $60. Not sure if this is routine, but the prices quoted online here are less than my cost to renew. I'm torn because they've done a great job, but wonder if I can shop around and find the same thing for a better price. As I look, it appears that several other companies are not as comprehensive, and thus are less expensive. At this point, I'm leaning towards staying with AHS, even though they are a bit more.

  • Review: Strongly recommend that you do not pay for a so-called "contract" with this company. One of scams they have going on is that they will tell the customer over the phone that work is covered under warranty (as it should be) but then tell the repair person who comes out that it is not covered. Then they will charge you a service fee, in a sense, collecting money for not doing any work. The repair person who came out acknowledged that the customers and repair personnel routinely call in to differnt divisons of the company and get different responses.

I contacted Allied after each issue no one choose to contact me for 3 months then offered to reimburse the service fee, it has been another month and still no check. I have canceled my service with them.

  • Review: I have been a customer with AHS for over three years now and have great success with them. During this time, I have had my Evap Coil and Compressor replaced with no issues. The compressor was deffective from the manufactuer and AHS replaced the unti with no questions asked. These two repairs alone would have run well over 3k and my monthly service fee for the entire three years was only 1,620 dollars. One common misconception about AHS is that customers expect a replacement of a A/C unit or appliance when something breaks. This is a very unreasonable expectation as I as a homeowner would not but a new appliance or A/C unit when the issue can be fixed. Do these people buy a new car every time they need tires or a break job? It's the same principal here. As far as response times in the summer goes, the contractors not only have their own customers to service, but also service the quantity from AHS. Guess what, when summer comes, A/C units break down and AHS receives a flood of calls. Every homeowner is provided with the name and contactor information for the service company AHS dispatched. If you do not receive a response that is reasonable, call the vendor yourself and explain the situation. I did this with the compressor in early August and the local company had received 86 calls from AHS that weekend alone. It took the vendor until Wed night to catch up with the workload. Did I enjoy the wait? No, but I also understood the situation the vendor was under. Having grown up in that business, I knew what summer was like in regards to call volume and I also understood customer frustration as well. Homeowners can have a good experience with AHS, but only if they are realistic in their expectations. Again AHS is a warranty company, not a replacement company.

  • Review: We have 2 ac units and they both went out at the same time. Come to find out Total Protect will only cover one unit. I could not believe it. When I signed up over the phone I was never told you have to pay additional money to cover the second unit. On one forum someone said this- "well, as being contractors for SEVERAL home warranty companies, ALWAYS, AND I MEAN ALWAYS READ THE FINEPRINT IN YOUR CONTRACT...OTHERWISE , WHO CAN YOU BLAME BUT YOURSELF. Some really good companies that cover all aspects of all problems would defintly be Old Republic; American Home Sheild and 1st American Home Buyers Protection. AND ALWAYS ALWAYS be cautious, google them...duh!" From what I have read here I think there is some scam going on with TP and their contractors.

  • Review: This company's policy is very tricky. On their website, when you go to buy a policy, they list oven and dryer as covered. Tpday I called and told them that I was having issues with my oven's door and dryer door... they said DOORS ARE NOT COVERED even though they are a part of the function of the appliances! What is the point of buying such a policy when it will not cover such repairs? Why don't they specify that when you go to buy?? They say its in my paperwork but it must have been a one-liner and it certainly is NOT on their website. What other parts of an appliance do they NOT cover??

  • Review: My contract # 59701817 My air handler had leaks that need a replacement. They only replaced it without changing the heat pump after many calls to request the servioce. As a result, we had with mitmatch unit. We had it replaced in late Fall 2010. We did not enough time to use our AC for follow up. In April 2011, my heatpump's compressor was shot. I don't know it was a result of mis-match unit case or not. I made a claim but they flatly denied my claim base on an assertion that my unit was rusty and corrosive based on commnet made by the technician. They said they will not do anything for me because of the unit's condition...! This was an outdoor, 18 year old unit. Of course, it should be old and rusty. Who can keep this type of equipment in a good shape for a claim? We had to replace a same model heatpump with the help of my homeowner insurance. Of course, we had to pay a large share of the replacement cost, because homeowner insurance prorate claim based on year in service. TOTAL PROTECT only want to collect your money not providing TOTAL PROTECT as they promised. I plan to sue them at small claim court and willing to join any class action law suit in the future.

We could not turn on the water or anything in the house. I made a call to AHS even though, the customer service rep was helpful, he elevated the situation to an emergency level, imagine my confusion when he came back with " the ealiest time of service will be sometimes tomorrow mid morning". I had to source for a plumber who came to fix the problem within two hours. I am definetely going to terminate the contract. I am paying AHS montly premium to minimize my stress during such an emergency.

  • Review: If I could give a zero rating I would. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. My AC broke I called Thursday morning and they couldn't com until Sunday afternoon in 92 degree weather. I called and complained even to the supervisor but they couldn't call another contractor to come out sooner and "per your policy" they didn't have to. The guy who came out said the problem was due to a lack of maintenance on my fault- not covered and I needed to $100 to do the maintenance as he needed to rule that out before he could say anything else was a problem- even though it was a 20 year old AC system that the previous owner put freon in to keep it going and the inspector said would die soon. I can't wait to switch to another company. Don't make the same mistake as I did. I have never written a review but this company is so aweful I felt I needed to warn others.

  • Review: The motorized unit of the chain-driven garage door opener went out. The service tech. gave me the money to get a new garage door opener, which apparently he was not supposed to do; and he did not specify that I had to get another chain-driven system. I purchased a screw-driven system. When he eventually came out to replace the garage door opener, he was expecting to replace ONLY the motorized unit, and admitted that he had never replaced a whole unit; so he left. I called FAHW, and they said a different tech. would be out to replace the garage door opener. This second tech. never called or showed up. Then FAHW said that only the motorized unit should be replaced, and told me to either get a garage door opener compatible with the existing unit (so they could replace only the motorized unit) or they would give me $60 to install it myself. First of all you cannot buy only a motorized unit - the entire system is purchased. Secondly, I do not want a jury-rigged, Rube Goldberg system cobbled together with some parts from a 13 yr. old system, and some parts from a new system. As far as I am concerned, FAHW did not deliver as promised. Fortunately I got a free garage door opener out of the deal; and the home seller paid for the FAHW contract. However, I would never use them again; and suggested to the real estate firm through who suggested FAHW that they find another warranty company.

  • Review: Run Fast AHS are scammers and they will collect your money each month then when you need them they have excuse after excuse. The contractors they use are less than Competent. I had a shower head and faucett installed in 2008 by AHS contractor and it's been leaking behind my wall in my family room since then. I have contacted AHS several times over the past years since 08 because everytime I shower my carpet in my utility room gets wet. I recently hired my own plumber who found the problem (the shower head)I called AHS explained the problem they sent out another plumber who verified what my plumber said. According to AHS they do not cover secondary damage? If this was a leak that I could have detected and not something going on behind the wall then I would understand but I can not see though drywall and all the times I had them back out each time it was something different. the toilet, the grout and so on and not one of their plumber actually detected the real problem until I told them what was causing my walls times to be soft and my carpet to be wet. Now I'm stuck with wall damage and large hole in my wall because they do not have a contractor who can repair it even though the contract indicates that they will fix the access for plumbing? Offered me a cash buyout of 120.00 to repair the wall from recent plumber who fixed the original problem from 2008? RUN FAST RUN FAST !!!!!

  • Review: The home I purchased in 12/2010 came with a 2-10 warranty. The house is about 15 years old, but the Carrier heating/ac is supposedly only a few years old. We noticed heat would come on only sporadically and it was cold most of the time downstairs. Since 2-10 came with the purchase of my home we called them to have the repair done. They wanted to charge us to use our own HVAC company so we went with a company (Duvall) that they have as a contractor. This company has been here 4 times over the course of a month and has yet to resolve the problem. Being without heat for over a month is unacceptable to us. I have never seen such poor customer service and lack of integrity on behalf of 2-10. As others have said, they really don't seem to care at all that I have had no heat and that the heating company is not expediting our problem. I have filed a complaint with the BBB, and am in the process to call my local news. Someone directed me to this site, and I am not surprised by the comments because it is the same experience I am currently having. I will NOT renew my contract, and as others have said, I probably should have just spent my own money on a reputable HVAC company instead of trying to get success from this worthless home warranty organization!

  • Review: A one year Old Republic warranty came with my house when I bought it in 2006 and I have renewed the warranty every year since then. The house is 12 years old and the appliances are showing their age. So far, Old Republic has replaced my refrigerator, hot water heater, a/c thermostat and just today the garbage disposal. Each time I just pay the $75 deductible. I pay about $400 for the warranty each year and each year I have had something replaced or serviced. I recouped the cost of four years of the warranty in the new hot water heater alone. I see that others have posted that they have had trouble with OR's service. My experiences with the company have been just the opposite. When I need service, I go on the website and type in my request. The contracted company calls me and sets up a time to come out. I pay the deductible and the problem gets fixed and/or I get a new appliance. It's that simple. Last year, before renewing my warranty I Googled home warranty reviews to see if I could find something cheaper. After reading what some people had written here I wondered if I should renew with OR again so, I went on my local better business bureau webpage and found that OR had a perfect rating. That plus the good experience I've always had with the company made me renew my plan with them again. I guess it is possible that the company works differently in different states so I will only speak for Virginia and say, without hesitation, that I will continue to use OR.
