| Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights
2-10 Home Warranty also administers these warranty programs:

This place is a scam, period. Here’s what the game is with them. They make you call them for any repairs. Then they give you the contact details for “their guy” who you now need to call or they will call you. Next you set an appointment up for the service company to come out. When you finally get someone to your house you are charged a service fee, which varies depending on who tier of warranty you opted for. So, in my case it was $100 only to be told my roof leak was not covered due to existing damage. The guy they sent to me to look at my roof never even got in my attic to see where the leak was entering my house. Yet he determined that it was from “existing damage”. While at my house he made it seem as if this was a no brainer and was covered. After weeks of not hearing anything from him or 2-10 I finally called 2-10 and was informed it was not covered. This was after calling the contractor about 10 times and leaving as many unreturned messages. So basically once you pay the contractor his service fee, he’s gone with your money and you can do nothing about it. 2-10 has a very short answer for you on claims, “denied and you really have no recourse”. Avoid these folks at all cost, really do your research on home warranty companies, and as you can see from all the scathing ratings on this one, it is to be avoided.
Totally disagree with Mr. Shaffer. I have the deluxe warranty that calls for replacement if the unit can not be fixed.
I had A/C problems when temperatures were 110+
A total of 4 service calls were made. First one, guy comes out and says you were low on freon. Adds more freon, still not working properly (temps in the house were in the 80′s). Second call, guy comes out and says “your motor is overheating and is smoking.” He says he can fix it and cuts the wires to the motor. Turns out he can’t find a new motor for this 35+ year old unit and says he needs to go find one. With wires now cut, there is NO A/C whatsoever. Temps rise to 100 degrees in the house with no air and I call 2-10 and PLEAD that they fix or replace immediately. They could care less that we are melting in here because of the heat and say “we must spend a reasonable amount of time looking for a new fan motor.” We were without A/C for 4 days when temps were in the 100′s!!!!! Numerous calls and emails got me nowhere. Finally a replacement motor was found and installed. Got the A/C unit working again but problem still exists. More calls and guy comes out and says “you have too much freon”.
The unit is 35+ years old and needs to be replaced. 2-10 knows that, but refuses to replace it. They keep sending people to tinker with it, add freon, remove freon, and meanwhile temps are still in the 80′s in the house.
They will put you off and hope you go away. I am not going away and will keep phoning and getting contractors out here until the unit is finally replaced.
Live up to your promises 2-10. Quit dicking people around.
I bought a home only 4 years old. The foundation have several cracked from the front to the back of the house. The house is drop down 2 inches on one corner. it was measure when the foundation repair guys came out . I have at least 10 or more cracked on the sheet rock. The window could only lock with one latch. The door are real hard to open. They came out twice and said it is still livable. So they refuse to fix the house. I’ m still in the process of fighting them to get this house fix.
This warranty was bought by the builder. I would not do business with this company.
Be careful you are clear what you are getting into. The company repairs things until they are no longer repairable. If it is deemed that it needs to be replaced, they send techs out until one says it can be repaired. Refrigerator repair has been through 4 repairs, and still doesn’t work.
A complete rip-off in my estimation. You are better off paying out of pocket, faster and by the time all is said and done actually cheaper.
I work for an AC company that works for this warranty company a lot. My job is to process the claims that come in THROUGH the warranty company – i just processed a claim that left the customer with 0.00 owed out of pocket and two BRAND NEW SYSTEMS in their home. The thing is – if you are going to buy a warranty – don’t be a cheap ass and buy the lowest price you hear quoted and then expect them to pay out the nose when you have a problem – its like anything else – you get what you pay for. Altogether though, out of 4 companies we do business with, 2-10 is definetly the company i would recommend, AND The company i would purchase coverage with myself if my systems were not still covered by manufacter’s warranty -
I have had this company sense I purchase the home (4yr). I have used it 2 times. The first time was for my garbage disposal. It took a few days but the tech came out and put in a new one so I was pleased. The next time was my Fredge after a few days the tech came out and it just needed to be flushed out. Each time cost me $50-75. It is time to renue the contract and I complained because they increased it again. It was $300 when I started and now it was $700 I told them I could not and would not pay that; they responded with “your home is old thing get older”… I said not that fast an increase. Any way I told them I would talk to my husband they called back the next day I told them it was just to high they said they would come down to $576 and increase the service call to $75-100. I said I wanted to look into other options. They have called me every day many times. Yesterday they called me 7 times on my home phone and left a message and 7 times on my cell and left a message. I do not mean thru out the day I mean it would ring hang up and in a short time ring again. I did not answer because I was getting ready to leave for church. I went on this to see what kind of a rating they got and look at other warrenty providers and I am so glad I did. I will not be using them anymore after reading so many bad reviews.
This is the 2nd time that I have made a claim and both times they refused to take care of the total payment! Why buy this service if they do not cover anything! DO NOT RENEW!
My experience was like most of the other reviewers. I wish I had done my research BEFORE enrolling with 2-10. The company’s representatives were rude, and it was a battle to get things covered that should have been. I will NEVER do business with this company again.
My complaint is similar to the others. I had 2-10 years ago. Every time I called them to fix something (washer, garbage disposal, ac), they found a way to get out of fixing it. I had to pay the trade fee but ALWAYS ending up paying for the repair myself. I just got a new 2-10 warranty two months ago. Last Saturday, I called during a hurricane about my roof leaking. The contractor that they use in Chesapeake VA (DUVAL) is closed on weekends. They called Monday morning to tell me that they would be out the next Tuesday (10 days after the leak had started). I called 2-10 back to see if they could send another contractor. They gave me the number of another contractor, but allowed me to keep the appt with Duval. When I called the other contractor, he informed me that he no longer did work for 2-10. I called 2-10 back to get the number of ANOTHER contractor. They gave me the 2nd guy’s nubmer AGAIN. I had to inform them that that person no longer does work for them. 2-10 then informed me that I could get an outside contractor to do the work. I then called a family friend to do the work. He has his own business and was going to charge me very reasonable rates. Since all work from outside contractors has to be pre-approved, I had my guy call 2-10 to get the pre-authorizations. He described the damages just as I had (roof damage from wind and rain during hurricane). After I was on hold for ten minutes and my contractor spoke with him for five minutes, the representative said that 2-10 doesnt cover storm damage and would not pay for ANY of the repairs. The contract specifically states that rain damage IS COVERED. The rep said that storm damage is not. I guess it has to be a sunshower for them to cover rain damage! I’m very upset that they didnt tell me that storm damage wasnt covered the first time I called, or even the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th time! They pretty much just gave me the runaround just to deny me coverage. I guess they wanted me to pay their guy $100 for him to tell me it wasn’t covered (like I did years ago). I was trying to give this company a second chance but I’m seriously regretting it. I have contacted them for a FULL refund.
My experience is inregards to a fridge being repaired. On July 15 my fridge stopped working. I called to company to inform them and was told I would receive a call by the next business day inregards to having a company out to inspect the fridge. However it took three days for the call back and that was after I called them again to check on the status. Once the inspection was made I was told a part needed to be ordered and then the repair can take place. The part was ordered thru the repair company and I was told that it would be in within a week. After waiting a week I called 2-10 again to be told the part is still on back order and it would then take another 2 weeks for the part to come in. I then asked 2-10 what can be done and if they could go thru another company to send me a new fridge however I was told that is not possible and its beyond there control. Once again after the three weeks pass the part comes in and it is determined it is the wrong part and that the part they need is no longer being made by the manufactor. I then called 2-10 again to inform them that is has been over a month and I have been without a fridge with a 4 yr old child in my household. They had no remorse or understanding inregards to the above. Finally I was offered a buyout which I feel as though should have been offered after the first service failure. I agreed to the buyout and was told they would send out a check priority mail the next business day, again I wait a week and no check arrives. I then call back and ask to speak with a supervisor/president to be told they dont handle customer services issues and that I have to continue to go thru them as of today Aug 31 I am still fridge less and checkless. I would not recommed this company to anyone. Also to note the customer services representatives are completly rude and heartless.
We had an issue with our AC unit. The service company was GREAT. They came in and fixed the problem in about 15 minutes. The issue was 2-10. Getting them to finally send someone out was a daunting task. About a month and many many calls later our AC was fixed….just in time for autumn!
Our air conditioning has been out over a week, we’ve seen 3 repairmen saying it needed 3 diffrent things to get it fized! When we told them my husband has asthma they were very uncaring about the situation.
This company was recommended to us by our real-estate agent. Now I am wondering if she doesn’t get a kick back or something. This warranty company finds excuse after excuse not to fix things and they charge $60 every time they come out. It is absolute rip off. Don’t do it!!!
This is the worst company you could ever go with. I bought my house in May and than half of my electrical went out in July. I called the company to file a claim and someone would contact me in 48 hours. The technician called and diagnosed my problem over the phone and wanted to charge me $670 and hadn’t even seen the problem. I was blown away! I called my warranty company again to send another contractor. Waited another 48 hours, than a couple of days than a week and no contact. I called my warranty company again and requested service and the contractor called me and had the nerve to tell me I need to be patient and stop calling my warranty company. The nerve of him! I called the warranty company again today August 11, 2011. The contractor said I will be at your house between 11 am and 2 pm. Never showed up. I called around 3:30 p.m. again. He said they will be there in a half hour. 5:00 p.m came and went. I was late picking up my daughter from daycare and had to pay a fee. I called the home warranty company again and told them I wanted to cancel my policy. She said I had to write a letter to corporate. I told her I wanted my money immediately or I was calling the BBB. She immediately transferred me to Accounts Receivables. Hopefully, I will have a check in the next couple of days! Don’t ever sign up with this company. You will pay dearly! I have to now find an electrician and pay out of my pocket. What a waste of my time!
Getting the run around, poor customer service. Horrible company. Everytime I call I wait on hold for 30min and dont get anywhere. 2 weeks without AC.. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY
wow. no place for -0 extremely poor service. sent plumber out due to problem with pressureized toilet. appeared to not have any idea what was wrong. took my 50.00 didnt hear from them till i called. was told when we find out we will fix. 10 days later told tank has to be cleaned, 2-10 warranty cs said we dont pay to clean tanks.how do you repair a mechanical problem by cleaning a tank? vendor had no info on truck or letter headno phone number on receipt no business license number. wher do they find these licensed contractors. also very disrespectfull cs rep. no warranty renew from me.
extremely poor service customer service extremely poor. plumber sent out to job didnt know how to repair problem no vendor letter head on receipt no name on service truck no lic.# onservice truck.vendor would never return calls.will not renew with this company.
Our home is new, barely been here 2 years. Since April we have been trying to have our AC unit fix. We have paid over $150 in deductible for 4 times someone has come and still not corrected. I have been calling since July 31, 2011 to try to have another person come and finally had to go get a private company come and paid out of pocket to fix it. Now they would not refund it. Already place a complaint with the BBB. Next step lawyer. Do not use this company.
I called because my air condionter quit. I called Monday evening and was told they could not get there until Thursday at 2 pm. The temperature for this three day wait was 98 to 100 with a heat index of 105-110. I am a 77 yr old woman. I had to be rushed to the emergency room at 7 am Thursday morning with heat stroke. The Doctors told me 1 more hour and I would have died. I do not call this good service!
We returned home Sunday evening July 24, 2011 to find that our AC had stopped working. The warranty company couldn’t get anyone out until Tuesday. Not great, but it has been excessively hot here in Northern Virginia so I imagine I was not the only person who was having AC difficulty. Long story short, the 1/2 hp fan motor was broken. The warranty company decided to have a motor shipped in from some place else in Virginia (this is Tuesday afternoon). I found out from the technician that came to the house that he could replace it using their companies motor for an additional $675. Fast forward to Thursday, the motor still has not arrived at the contractor and they can’t schedule a fix date until the motor is received. So now, its been four days of no AC in our house and Northern Virginia has had 90+ temperatures everyday with code Orange Air Quality and heat index into the upper 90s.
After calling several time and speaking to several people, I was able to get them to send me a check for $300, still haven’t received it and not really sure I will, to go towards the cost of someone else fixing the problem… but clearly, the $480 I spent on the warranty was a complete waste of my money. I have since called someone other than their recommended contractor. My AC is fixed. It cost me more than the $300 the 2-10 people were willing to pay me, but its worth it. I have one child with Asthma and the code orange air quality days are very unhealthy for him and very uncomfortable for the rest of us.
I am very disappointed that I used the 2-10 warranty company. Had I not had the warranty, I would have called the same company (Crop Metcalfe, a large HVAC company here in Northern Virginia) and gotten service on Monday. That would have been a whole lot easier on the entire family and I wouldn’t have wasted the $480 on a warranty that was useless. I have requested a refund and cancelled my policy… but given the poor service I have already received, I doubt I will get a response to my email. I tried requesting it all over the phone, but was told I couldn’t and that there was no one for me to speak to.
If there were a choice less that 1 = Poor, I would have chosen that instead. Poor doesn’t really describe the situation or level of service I have received.
Like most warranties, they say they cover a lot. They even state over the phone when placing a claim that the issue is covered, then when it comes time to fixing it, they find a “reason” why it isn’t covered. I’ve paid trade fees several times to be told by the contractor, after calling in, that “sorry, that’s not actually covered.” Don’t waste your money! Just set aside the money you would pay for the warranty and hire reputable contractors yourself. At least then you get a choice on who comes into your home and what work to have done.
does not provide the service as expected, long wait time for repair, does not listen to contractor on recommendations, does not allow complete closure to a problem because the follow up was not a major equipment malfunction.
Very poor warranty compnay when it comes to doing what they said they will do.
First of all, don’t use them. They are scam.
I tried twice to use them,
1. Early Feb, the heater was broken. Called them. They basically said if you still had emergency heat then please wait they would send help. I could not risk my 6 month old boy and didn’t want to pay high electricity bill. And I also had the plan to replace the heater. So eventually I called a HVAC guy and got a new unit. Their help never showed up. That month I paid high electricity bill.
2. Last week, my garage door broken. It is the motor broken first, the chain lost support so the door dropped suddenly. The force was too big, it dragged out the plywood in the wall. So the home warranty used this as excuse. Says it is the wood, not the motor, they don’t cover wood. Sort of like, the door hit the concrete floor and damage the concrete floor, they would say it is the concrete floor not the door. Ridiculous! I still used their contract to fix it and paid more than I need. Because I don’t want to take another day off and no matter what I had to pay them $100 trade fee. Nice catch.
When I sat back and thought about this company, they only charged $419 to warranty my 30 year old house, covering all appliances, roofing, pluming etc for a whole year. This is too good to be true. So it is not true. I wrote this just want people to be aware this company is a joke if it is not a scam.
have been waiting for my microwave to be fixed 4 months this is not they way you keep customer’s to come back I will make sure I tell anyone that ask how I fell about this company.
I need a replacement evaporator coil on my AC unit. I have a maintenance contract with a local company, and I want them to do this repair. I called 2-10 Home Warranty to see how much they would offer. Although I have had this contract for 8 years and never used it, they only offered $150 on a repair of $1200. This is not acceptable, and, frankly, I don’t believe that they can get it done for that price. I will change to a different warranty company next year.
