| Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights

They love the word NO. It’s actually pretty bad when their own technican tells me that, American Home Guardian hates to pay for anything. This company is a joke.
My experience with this company seems very similar to another home warranty company that just received instructions to stop doing business in Arizona – National Home Protection. After paying for a few small repairs over the past 3 years, I just tried to make a claim on an AC repair! Of course since this repair could run close to $1,000, they said “No”! They said “the unit wasn’t properly serviced”. Except that their technician (same company) had been out to do repairs on the unit each of the last two years. During those visits, the tech never mentioned anything about additional needed repairs or service! Another scam company. Everything will be fine as long as you never try to file a big claim (anything over $300)…
Great customer service and Fast service. Thanks for thaking great care all my home repair needs. AHG is the best!!!
It took one call and in less than 4 hrs everything was fixed! A repair man was sent out and the AC was working in no time. Even my property management company was shocked with the quick turn around. Amazing Service! Highly recommend American Home Guardian!
Company wont pay for anything. I had a claim on my Water Heater and they told me the max they will pay is 200.00 and to look at there policy. when it does not state anything about that
Wow, buyer beware. We choose this company because they garunteed “Energy Saver” replacements on all appliances. The replacements that they will give you are the “Builder’s Grade” which means garbage. For instance, we have a wall oven, first they said they don’t repair wall ovens then they gave me a $210 replacement check, as if I can buy a decent oven for that amount. That’ is not a replacement, in fact, I can’t even buy a warming oven for that price. I’m so furious. And, if we didn’t want to take the check we could get a $220 gift card for Sears. Please do your research and go with a reliable company.
Thank-you, Thank-you, THANK-YOU AHG!!! This does not seem to be enough to express how I feel about this company. I am so happy I have had the American Home Guardian warranty plan covering my house for the past 3 years! Every time I call your office I am greated with very nice people that I feel truly want to help me get my home repairs take care of ASAP! All of your Tech have been “Top-notch” and very professional. The last time I called your office was because my heater was not working and I had a house full of visitors from out of town. The tech was at my house in less than an hour and made a very complicated repair the the same day. I am soooooo Grateful for your company. Again, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. AHG has saved me thousands of dollars EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE THIS COMPANY AS YOUR HOME WARRANTY PROVIDER.
My home is over 20 years old and my HVAC is original. When I was shopping around for a home warranty company, I exchanged several emails with AHC’s “director of sales and marketing” and asked whether or not they will cover full replacement of HVAC if it does break down, since it’s so old. He said so long as I pay for the optional “platinum protection” coverage it will.
Well, my furnace broke down almost two months ago and AHC is only willing to pay $900 for the ENTIRE COOLING AND HEATING system and if I only use the $900 on the furnace (quoted $1700 by their technician) they will not be responsible at all if my cooling breaks down in the coming summer… this is not at all full coverage replacement. I’ve sent a complaint against them to the BBB, Texas Attorney General, as well as the FTC, and AHC has thus far ignored all of them and have not contacted me nor sent me any check. In the mean time, it’s winter time and I’ve been freezing in my house (I think I’m getting sick, too…)
I do not recommend them to anyone.
My warranty was coming up for renewal and I had not received an invoice. I contacted them and was told that they were probably not going to be renewing my contract. When I asked why they said they would check and call me back. Well needless to say they did not call back but instead sent me an e-mail notifying me that my contract would not be renewed per a specific section in the contract. They also indicated that it had been reported to them that my HVAC unit was 20+ yrs old. Well according to all my records it old but not that old (16 yrs) but it was their poor customer service that lead to their POOR overall rating.
So far, it has been a month already and our air conditioning unit has not been repaired. I called in April when we realized the unit was not cooling. A repairman came and put in freon. 3 weeks later, we realized, as it got hotter and hotter in TX that the unit was not cooling and called again. This time is took 2 weeks for someone to come out to check because they were too busy. This time the technician said the unit needed replacing and someone from the warranty company would call us the following week. There was no call so we called them on Wednesday. Again, we were promised that someone would be here today (Friday). I stayed home from work to wait for the 3rd time – without pay – no one called or came. I called the home warranty company and was put on hold for nearly 30 minutes. When she returned, she had no explanation or solution and said she would call me back when she knew something. I’m still waiting…will we just have to wait until December and open the windows to get cool air…I’m wondering how to file a formal complaint!
I AM AMAZED WITH THIS COMPANY! I had another well known company tell me that my air conditioner coil was leaking and it would cost 1300.00 to replace. I was told I needed a new coil. I then remembered my warranty with Soronan and OMG! I explained the situtation. There was a tech out the very next day and Viola! It was repairable at the price of 200.00. I saved 1100.00… Wow! What a difference a phone call makes!
I have nothing but praise for this company. In the past three years, they’ve replaced an entire a/c unit and two compressors on my primary residence and rental homes, repaired a disposal, an ice maker and some ceiling fan problem, and gave me $250 to replace a 20-year-old washing machine. I’m way ahead of the game because them! A big thanks to Chad in customer service for all of his calm patience with me, and to Gary in service dispatch for always getting the service contractors out to help me quickly–and always on my schedule so I don’t miss too much time from work. And how’s this for customer service: either Gary or the service contractor will call me when they’re on the way, so I don’t miss a day’s work waiting for an early morning scheduled service call to arrive!
And in the past three years, I’ve only had one small problem. They said my August payment didn’t go through because the credit card(for automatic payment)was expired. It wasn’t. When I called to straighten it out, Chad in customer service spent 35 minutes with me on the phone and found that my July payment had not gone through, either, and so I had slipped in status with them. Although I should have caught the missed July payment on my credit card bill, I didn’t, but I feel they should’ve notified me of it right away.
Overall, I can highly recommend AHG for homeowners, and especially for anyone with rental properties!
The company provides a fast response time with their contractors.
This company is a joke!!!!!! my husband and I found out that our home needed some plumbing repair in the bathrooms so we called AHG. They sent someone out who then told us after the inspection that we needed to replace the pipes becuase they were corroding (older home)so we called AHG to put a claim in and was told by them, “we only cover 2 inches down” WHAT THE CRAP!!! what good is the insurance if they won’t repair/replace what I’ve paid for in advance in insurance!!! my policy has come due and I intend to send a nice letter telling them what I think of their lousy non-service insurance……BEWARE!!! this company is a fraud.
The first time I call this company to fix a stove it took them about a month and several calls on my part. My tenants were not happy. A month later it broke again. It has now been three weeks and haven’t heard anything from them so I called again. AHG advised that the tenant voided the warrant on the stove when it was moved outside. Appearently they want your tenants to walk around a broken stove for weeks until they get around to fixing it. I own several rental properties and I will NEVER purchase American Home Guadian again.
I’ve had to use my home warranty twice this year and both times received quick, friendly and professional service. The job was done right the first time and I had no hassles over coverage, unlike warranty companies I’ve used in the past.
I’ve been thoroughly satisfied with the service and response time. Every time I’ve called them the problem has been fixed that day without any hidden fees or charges. I would recommend AHG to anyone looking for a good warranty.
This company is fraud, they will never pay any claim more then a couple of hundred dollars, will always find an excuse not to pay. They receive kick backs from their contractors like Pro Serv. whose repair estimate is about 3-4 times more then the actual cost and AHG will nerver pay for that repair. Home owner will end up paying for the repair.
They are quick to disqualify repairs, with renewal they add a $6.95 Policy Reinstatement & Mailing fee for EACH UNIT, even in a multiplex, even if you are still well within the contract. I asked why a “Policy Reinstatement & Mailing Fee” when my policy has no need to be reinstated because we are and always have been current in paying, and a stamp is still under fifty cents. “company policy” There is a 2.7% charge if you use a credit card to pay in full. I wrote them a professional letter and it took nearly 3 months for a response. I replied and no response. I also left a voicemail for the supposed only person in that department, and no response. Shame on them! I will not be renewing my contract with them.
Submitted my first service request by email on July 5, 2011. Did not hear back within the 4 hrs as stated in AHG agreement. In fact, I had to call 2 days later only to only be given the number of the service agent for me to call directly since they didn’t call me. I was contacted finally and made an appointment for the service agent to look at my garage door opener on Saturday, July 9. Supposedly this company that AHG contracted out for this type of repair put in a quote that was a little extreme (this is my understanding after finally calling AHG about the repair status on July 14 – 5 days after the repair service call). It is now the late afternoon of July 19th (another 5 days) and I still have not heard back from AGH or the repair company. Obviously not a great way to start off a relationship. I’m not sure who’s fault – AHG or the service agent but I do know it’s not my fault – I sent in my money for a year agreement fee AND now a service call fee. I know a few people that use a different home warranty company and they have always had great service with no complaints…I researched and thought I was making a good choice. Obviously regret my decision.
Our A/C unit stopped working on Sunday night. At 7am on Monday I called AHG to leave message.Surprise! They answered the phone and they took my case.By 9am we got a call from AHG service contractor and they promised to come our home by noon.At 10am the service tech called to confirm our address location and he arrived at out home before 12 noon. The service tech got on HOT ROOF and fixed A/C.He had all the parts in his truck. We live in Phoenix,Arizona can’t survive without A/C during the hot summer. We would like to extend many thanks to AHG and their service contractor for a quick response and professional service.
This home warranty took my premium money and didn’t offer protection. When failure occurred they recommended replacement but didn’t want to pay for it, instead they offered me $200 or market value of the failed unit. Then their service company also owned by them, wanted to upsell me an undercapacity unit for twice the market value. Upon rejection of their ‘offer’ they attempted to repair, charged me for the repair and repaired it incorrectly causing irreparable damage to the unit. When I found out and brought it to their attention they told me they wouldn’t help. I had no choice but to buy a new unit and spend money I didn’t have. They were found to be negligent by the ROC inspector but the citation i filed against them was dismissed due to a technicality in the law that said I had already replaced the unit hence the contractor didn’t have the opportunity to correct after complaint was filed. The owner of this company is a thief, a liar, and it’s still allowed to do business. The attorney general need more complaints against this business in order to do something about it, and that is why I am writing this. I want to call all those who have been wronged by AHG in Mesa AZ to write to the Attorney General in Phx, AZ with their complaint against this company. Given the amount of issues I have had with them, I am certain I am not the only one who has been defrauded by this company.
