Offers plans to cover pre-existing conditions and lack of maintenance repairs, for an additional fee.
| Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights

Two years into paying for this and what do you get as a result – an air conditioner out for a total of 3 MONTHS and just found out it went out again. SAVE YOUR MONEY this is not worth the head ache nor suffering through the heat of Texas. How these guys stay in business is beyond me.
We have been with American Home Shield for 5 years now and I would NEVER recommend anyone.
Came out to fix A/C than 2 weeks later I needed A/C repair again, this time on a weekend. They told me since it was not an emergency that I would have to wait until Monday for someone to call me back just to schedule an apt! This company is a Scam!!! Take it from me save your money!!!!!!!
I bought my house early June of 09 and on July 1st it stopped working called AHS and had some one come out then on 10 July it stopped working again so then the tech serviced it and all was well untill I found out that the tech had put the pieces back together incorrectly leaking water on my hardwood floors and then I called AHS and asked them about it and they said they are responsible for anything that the tech does or doesnt do…Its been a total of 20 times I have had to call to fix my A/C and at freaking 60 bucks a pop!! They are crazy! the service department was rude and uncooperative with me and reading the other reviews seems like they do have a problem but still realtors are still offering AHS as a warranty. Someone should make sure these ppl are put out of business Lifew was easier before then.I had to replace my floors through my insurance of causing that to go up. AHS is the most unprofessional company I have ever worked with and i hope someone reads theis and heeds the warnings of others. Get someone else never again will I pay AHS!! EVER!!
My pool pump was on its last legs, bearings gone and my coverage was expiring within a month. I tried to schedule an appointment online and was unable to log in so I called and spoke to a very good rep (Danielle) who helped me register the service request and resolve my online issue. The next day I was contacted by the repair company, scheduled the appointment for the following day. AHS followed up that day to be sure I had been taken care of. The service request was authorized and my new pump goes in tomorrow. I will be renewing coverage again….great service!
I paid two years on this company. I had trouble with my commode, and it needed replacing, but they would not do it because they said it was not installed properly. THis house was built in the 1950′s and this was probably the original commode. We have lived here for 12 years and we had not had it worked on, but then when we need AHS to replace it,they said no since THEY SAID it wasn’t installed correctly the first time. I wouldn’t use this company EVER again, and I tell everyone I know about my experience not to mention that it took almost a week to get someone to finally come.
Please cancel your AHS service. They are ripe off’s. After paying about $600 yearly and $60 per service call you get treated like a kid. Is all wrong stories and make up prices.
My A/C was not working on Friday 4 Jun 10. I called AHS for service and the first company they said will contact me did not, the second company finally came to my house on Sunday. They said it was a bad compressor. On Monday I called AHS three times to try and get an update. They said they have to locate the part or something. Tuesday, they said they located it in Las Vegas, what a coincedence! I called the a/c compnay Tuesday afternoon, lady said she would call me back but never did. I called AHS Wednesday morning, the lady started getting angry with me, with is BS. So once again they give me the runa round and say the a/c company will contact you to schedule an appointment when they receive the part. It is in the same city!!! It should be easy to get! So I called the a/c company back and she said the part is coming in on Wednesday and they will be able to fix it on Friday. Why does it take a week when the part is in the same city??? I know other folks have the same issues but these companies should be prepared for this. If they are short handed, then hire more people. It is unacceptable when the temperature in LV is over 100 and it takes a week to get my a/c fixed. There is no sense of urgency with either company. They said they have until Friday to fix it, why? Why not take care of it right away. Do they care how it affects people? Apparently not! My family slept in the house on the Friday it broke, stayed at a hotel on Saturday. Slept at the house again on Sunday night but since Monday my family has been staying in a hotel again because the heat in the house is too much for my wife and kids. These companies are taking their sweet time to fix the problem and in the mean time food has gone bad in my house and my family has either dealt with the heat or we have had to spend extra money to stay at a hotel, which means spending money for eating out too. This is unacceptable and I will be looking for another home warranty company when this done and I will be contacting the BBB! I pay them every month for situations like this and when it comes time for them to get something fixed, they don’t care and show no urgency to get the situation taken care of. I challenge these people to turn their a/c’s off in their house just for one day and see how they feel. I am sure they would be singing a different tune if it happens to them.
An AHS warranty came with the house that we bought. They have horrible service that is not done in a timely manner. Our AC went out last Wednesday. No one came to look at it until Monday. Then AHS had to order a part that will not come in until the following Monday and who knows when they will actually install it. Total time to fix the AC will be longer than 12 days. I live in Texas and it was 100F in our house this weekend. This does not constitute an emergency according to AHS. AHS refused to send a different contractor out sooner or to expedite the shipment. They “don’t ship parts overnight anymore because it caused delays in the past.” They also refused to tell me how much they were paying for the part. All the explanations from them were BS and even the BS was hard to come by. I will certainly not be renewing. I would have rather replaced the AC myself than deal with them. I suggest that you find a different warranty company if you insist on needing one.
AHS has to be the worst company I’ve ever experienced! The customer service is disgusting. They don’t return phone calls, you have to keep calling them. AHS doesn’t keep up with service information. While speaking with more than 4 different representatives for AHS, none of them had a clue as to the service ticket status and annotations. Each time they were asking me if someone, called, someone did this or that, or what the concern was. None of them at AHS appear to have knowledge of computer systems and record keeping! Any time you put in a service call with AHS you can guarantee that you won’t get the matter taken care of for at least a week if that. I won’t recommend them to a flea!
It doesn’t really matter what awful experience I have had with AHS… its always the same thing… there is always an exception or an exclusion or an EXCUSE… there isn’t a home warranty company out there that is really willing to take care of its homeowners. All that matters is the NON COVERAGE! I am appalled at the awful service provided by AHS… even when things are not excluded, they find something that says “and other” so that is encompasses anything that may come up. As far as I am concerned, home warranties are a HUGE SCAM! Save you efforts and money… DONT GET ONE!
I like the idea from a previous comment that says get credit or something from a seller in the closing of a purchase rather than a warranty… self insure!! Thats the way to go.
Its a pity there isn’t something to do about these scam artists they call Home Warranty companies!!!

I renewed after one year of service. I only had one prior issue with my AC unit. Which was diagnosed and immediately repaired. Two years later. The same problem is not covered under warranty. The serviceman with American Eagle told me the compressor and fuse were blown out and the parts needed to be ordered. The next day, AHS calls and says the servicemen took photos of my filter that was unclean and caused the damage. Therefore, they would not cover. When I asked for proof of these photos, I was told he would email me. Then they called back to say they were unbale to do so. I will cancel my warranty and look for a second opinion.
Paid for service for 6 1/2 yrs. When AC went out, said it was not maintained properly and cleaned, but it was!!! They will not pay for it – do not use these people!!!!
Requested and was approved for an emergency service at 11PM on a Sunday about my A/C leaking into my ceiling and causing it to collapse into my infant’s bedroom. Finally got a call from AHS contract company at 8:24AM saying they would be there anytime before noon. I told company not to come to the residence before they called because I was at work and would meet them there. I received the next call at 10:48 AM from contractor saying their technician was there. I told them that I had requested a call first, but since it was an emergency I could be there in about 15-20 minutes. I was told that the tech couldn’t wait that long and they’d have to call me back there to come out later in the day. I arrived home at around 11:30. I called the contractor twice and finally got a hold of them at around 2:05 PM. They stated they couldn’t make it out until the next afternoon. I called AHS and they were not help whatsoever. Saying that the company doesn’t have to call me before they arrived, I tried to explain that they are in a customer service business and I wasn’t feeling like I was being treated very well. Especially while I sit there and watch my A/C is still leaking. This is the third service request that I’ve put in to AHS and none of them were resolved adequately in my opinion. I’ve called to make complaints, but there is nothing that has been done.
Well, you pay premiums for several years and when you need something fixed, that should be covered, AHS says it’s not been maintained. Our AC unit went out and AHS sent a repair person to our home armed with a camera. Turns out the compressor needed to be repalced. Cost $2600. According to AHS, the unit had not been maintained, even tough we do have it serviced, including once prior by an AHS service Co. Decided to have another company give use an estimate instead of the repair company that came armed with cameras, that AHS chose. That company said the compressor unit had shorted out and the problem was totally unrelated to to maintenance. You judge for your self if you want use this company (AHA), i am canceling my policy Immediately. They look for reasons to not have pay for repairs that they widley avertise they cover!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Meant to add that in my experience the subs the jobs go out to are a mixed bag. One has been very good, the others I would never have hired.
I had an A/C problem. I am a 5 year customer and have had to fight with AHS the two times I have called them for service that should be covered. The technician as well as a representative at AHS told me by ductwork was covered however now they have changed their tune. The told me they would investigate and that ALL calls are recorded however conveniently, there was no call recorded on THAT day. They keep telling me ductwork is not covered however no where in the contract does it exclude ductwork and the ductwork is considered part of the A/C system. This is a horrible service provider and I will be seeking legal advice.
I have been with this company for several years and they have gotten progressively worst in all areas of service, but there premium and fees have generally gone up. I’m committed to finding another warranty company. The company faced a class action lawsuit regarding there services a few years ago. I beginning to understand why….

Things will get fixed, but not in a timely fashion. If you can wait a week for a refrigerator to be fixed, or two weeks to have a dishwasher fixed this is for you. Your repair will be cancelled at the last minute. Repair companies simply do not prioritize AHS calls. Don’t expect you air conditioning to be fixed although you paid extra for this, they will simple create an excuse why this repair is not covered.
Send a company to fix out A/C and it did not work the next day, we called the contractor A + L Thermo and they told us for 3 days they would be back to fix it, they never showed up. My 80 year old parents were in an 85 degree home for 8 days, NOT GOOD
We’ve been with AHS for about 4 or 5 years. I’ve requested service numerous times….they came through with our A/C request and replaced it. All the other request were denied because according to them, the technicians had reported that the items were abused. An example, my dishwasher was not draining, the tech came out, stated he would request a replacement. When I didn’t hear from them after a couple of days, I called and was told replacement was denied because the tech reported that it appeared the dishwasher was abused and the door appeared as if someone had jumped on it and broken! I was floored and asked them if they were kidding, and they said no. After several attempts to get them to replace it, they said they would pay a percentage for us to buy new thru a program they had. The lowest costing about $3-400 dollars. Just one of the few…if we’d just saved our monthly fees all these years, we could have replaced or repaired the items without the stress. Not renewing…..
I am most unhappy. I purchased a home in October of 2008 with an AHS warranty as recommended by my realtor. We were happy to find that we were ‘covered’ when the Air Conditioner developed problems the following summer (2009). We were perplexed by the problems we seemed to have initially getting a visit to check out our system (it took several days for the initial visit) but eventually All Right Heating came and looked at the system. Our system was, at that time, leaking WATER on the inside, which was dripping from the cooling heat exchanger on the inside of the home and running down the metal surfaces on the inside and outside of the AC/Heater unit, and was actually dripping down internal wiring in the heater area and further down onto and into the blower motor that got replaced during the second call. There was WATER and RUST evident at all levels, but the technician shrugged on the first visit (the unit was not cooling adequately) and said the compressor needed freon, which he added. Repeat calls fell on deaf ears when I explained that the unit was operational but still dripping water inside the unit onto the wires and onto the motor, and from there through the bottom of the unit to the to the floor drain. I had requested that the technician check the A/C drip pan for a leaks during the second visit, but he did not comply with my request. About a month later the motor seized completely, and so All Right returned and replaced the motor. I noted again the problem I saw with internal water flowing over the internal wiring and the motor, but again, my concerns fell on deaf ears. This motor, now still less than one year old, broke off at 2 of the 3 mounts this past Tuesday. A call to All Right on motor warranty got the answer that blower motors are only guaranteed for 90 days. I called another AC company. This time, the owner of the company visited and he indicated that the water running down through the rusted-through drain pan under the AV coils has destroyed the blower enclosure and that repair was possible but not advisable because of the leaking water. He stated that a repair of the housing was possible and would run between $800 and $1000 and that with water flowing downward there would not be a warranty on the repair. So now we are looking at a TOTAL Air Conditioner and Heater replacement for a problem that WAS IDENTIFIED LAST YEAR UNDER YOUR WARRANTY BUT NEVER ADDRESSED NOR REPAIRED. The new AC unit will cost about $8000, and I will be filing formal complaints with you and ServiceMaster, as well as notifying the realtor’s home office so they can tell agents what a shoddy job your company does. I would gladly discuss this further with you or your customer service department. Again, I am most unhappy over this entire episode with your “service” company.

AHS was supposed to fix my leaking water closet in my toilet. The man was supposed to be out from 12 to 3 on monday. At 250 i called to ask where he was. He was running late and would be to my house by 330. He comes in to my bathroom finally and said that the overflow was cracked, had to remove the tank and guts, but didnt have the parts. He said he would have to call me back in a few days when the parts. When 2 days went by i called them back to find out that the claim was denied b/c AHS’s vendor said I BROKE the overflow valve.
This is the last straw! I argued with AHS and tried to have them change there mind to no avail. NOT renewing.
worst customer service… came to fix my toilet & dishwasher… both still dont work and they said I would have to pay another $60 for each tech to come back out.
I didnt pay for the warrenty luckly the seller did but now I know its cause they didnt want to pay for the repairs at closing. They would rather pay the $390 and call it a day.
Crap.
Bought a one year plan, they sent a repair man twice to repair a dishwasher, they spent double (600.)to repair a 12 year old unit for what could have been replaced for less…….6 months later the dishwasher literally exploded (burnt up motor)and blew the door open sending water all over my kitchen(chinese replacement parts?) Stupid is as stupid does,I ended up not resubscribing to the warrenty,I ended up buying a new dishwasher……
