Offers plans to cover pre-existing conditions and lack of maintenance repairs, for an additional fee.
| Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights

We’ve owned different homes over the past 30 years. NEVER and I repeat NEVER,have we experienced the problems with any other Home Warranty Company like we have with AHS. It has been an utter nightmare. We’ve had the following appliances go out within the last two years: refrigerator, dishwasher, oven and furnace. In ALL instances we were met with inept and inefficient repairemen. Each scenario required at least 2-4 visits before they (AHS) either ordered the correct part after 2-3 tries or until they finally gave up and gave us a fraction of the cost to replace the refrigerator. Now we are dealing with a broken stove after FOUR visits without resolution. Now they say they will replace it. We have elevated each issue with resistance as if they are ‘covering’ for the next one up the chain of command. Once this oven issue is resolved we are kicking AHS to the curb where they belong. If you live in the Columbus, Ohio area I highly recommend you steer clear of this company. They don’t even deserve a rating of 1 in each area.

Woke up to find the outer glass on our Kitchen Aid Microwave shattered. We had no clue as to why this would happen. Researched the problem on the internet and found it’s not that uncommon. Called AHS and they sent out a repairman who said, “Yup, it’s shattered.” Asked for the $60 payment and said he would have to get approval from AHS to replace the glass. About an hour later I got a call from AHS, the rep. could barely speak English. He told me they were denying the claim because it wasn’t caused by ordinary wear and tear. The rep told me I could contest the claim denial and gave me a phone number to call. Called the number and was told by recording the wait was at least 15 mins. Eventually another recording came on and told me they were closed! If the glass wasn’t shattered by ordinary wear and tear, then the glass itself was defective!! POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!
Bought model home. Came with AHS warranty. Had toilet leak. Initial service call (using Rite-Away Plumbing) was within 48 hours . Said he fixed. Worked for about 1/2 day but had to have another plumber come out to fix. 2nd toilet leaked significantly out the back due to back up and called for EMERGENCY plumber. Water was still leaking despite turning water off at valve. Talked to Customer Service who said they would arrange in 1-6 hrs(with Rite-Away again or someone else). They never did. NEVER GOT A CALL BACK from plumber or customer service. Guess they don’t have emergency service. And definitely they have poor customer service. Water still coming out. Had to call own plumber and pay my own money (Saul from Bill Howe, who came within an hour on New Year’s Day–Thanks!!). Would certainly not recommend AHS at all. I am going to try to cancel and switch to another company. If you have a choice, do not pick AHS. In reading the other reviews, it seems as if there is not a reputable warranty company in CA. Sad.
Where this company truly lacks is with their customer service. They should start by hiring better folks than robots with minimal education who offer no help with attitudes. The customer service folks make no attempt to help customers in need. I truly do not believe this company prioritizes their service calls. As a customer who is still waiting for a part which required AHS approval, no thanks to them, I’m still without an operational stove since December 22nd. Obviously no one has mentioned to this company good customer service is key to their business. I have begun my search for another company with outstanding reviews, rated 4 stars as opposed to 2 stars for AHS. Good luck with this company…..
Sending technicians that don’t want to work, well leave you with out water for a month just not worth it unless u don’t mind waiting for service.
I’ve been with this company for 3 plus years. My washing machine broke and it took more three months to finally get the item replaced after calls, more calls, and techs trying to fix it. They spent more on parts than what the machine was worth. The service from both AHS & A&G Appliance was horrible.
My refrigerator also had issues at the same time and they told me that the part to fix it would be an upgrade feature and not covered. I will not review my contract with this company!
Our oven failed on Christmas Eve. I called AHS and was told they would enter a Service Request and I would be contacted by Sears on the first business day, which was three days later. Monday night I actually had to call Sears to check on the call. They said they couldn’t even get a serviceman to our house until January 10th but they had not called me.
I called AHS back and they sent an independent to look at the oven on December 28th. Meanwhile, I had gone to the manufacturer’s website and found that 98% of the parts for that particular oven were no longer available. The serviceman looked at the oven and report the same thing, but AHS wanted to take out the failed computer control board and send it to some repair shop, leaving us without an oven for at lease three more weeks. If we had done that we still had an oven that could not be capable of being repaired if it failed again.
In order to get a fair settlement from AHS I had to involve my Realtor, who works for a large nationwide real estate group to get a fair settlement. the old adage – “The squeaky wheel gets the grease” sure applies with this outfit.
All AHS wants to do is patch old broken equipment over and over again. They’re website says even ceiling fans are covered. I would hate to see what it takes to get one of those fixed. Some sources that will remain nameless have stated that AHS is more willing to replace high dollar systems than replace low cost items. I guess if they make 100,000 customers pay $400 out of pocket that’s $40,000,000 to their bottom line.
We just bought the home. The only reason I might keep AHS is I have a Realtor that apparently can get results.
I have had AHS for about 5 years now and have only requested minor repairs. I have AHS on my home and two rental properties. I am thankful I am only complaining about a washing machine and not a lack of hot water or heat or air.
I requested service on my 4 yr old Maytag Washer over three weeks ago. The repairman they sent out was late when he arrived the first two times and the third time he did arrive within the window of time. The repairman spent less than 15 minutes evaluating the situation, opting to replace a burned out part but not determining why the part burned out. The last two visits he said he was recommending that I “cash out” what ever that means. AHS has now decided to send out another repairman for a second opinion which who knows how long that will take.
I am extremely frustrated with the customer service of the repair company and AHS response to that frustration. I am researching home warrant companies in Texas and Virginia, so if anyone has any recommendations I would appreciate it.
We have a GAS LEAK. Seems this is not too important. The contracted with a plumber to come out and after I showed him where the problem was, he told me “this is going to be a lot of work”. No kidding! He then claimed that he could not get the gas meter apart because it was rusted and I needed to call the gas company to do it. Teh gas company appearantly takes gas leaks VERY seriously and was here within 5 minutes of me calling them. In fact, the plumber was STILL HERE when the gas man arrived, but drove off as the gas man rang my door bell. Teh gas man had no trouble at all getting the meter off; I watched him do it with hardly any pressure at all. Even I could have taken that apart. The gas man confirmed the leak but could not isolate it and said the plumber needed to come back to finish the job and we would be without gas until he did. Well, the plumber is too busy and won’t be able to restore our gas/heat for 2 days! They knew what the trouble was, yet they did not schedule enough time to get the job done! When the plumber called back, he said to me “well, now I will have to get a permit from the city and arrange for a city inspection…” He so did not want to do this work and was hoping the gas company would do it for him.
On another note – I am sick and tired of the condescending attitude of the AHS operators. If I hear “I understand how frustrating that can be” one more time!!!
poor is a over statement crocks, frauds,or worse is more like it. this is the worst experience you can think of 6 seperate companies were sent, to home to fix hvac between them its totalaled now they said my policy is canceled and they are returning my money, Bull im suing them for $7500. and sueing sales lade for fraud. stay away from this company email questions to [email protected]
I have always had good luck with ahs and been pleased, they have always taken care of me immediately and I am completely happy with them , they have saved me lots of money on my repairs in the past.
My heat pump froze over and we did not have any heat. I called AHS to request service. It took the HVAC company 5 days to come out an look at the heat pump. After 20 minutes, the technician told me what was wrong and that he would need to order a part. He would be back the next day to repair. The next day the repair was not performed. I called the HVAC company and they said the technician needed help with the repair and that they would be out the next day. I returned home from work the next day and no repair. I contacted AHS to report the issue and was told they would call the HVAC company to find out what was going on. I never heard back from AHS. I again called the HVAC company to find out what was happening and was told that they were waiting on a part and that it would be the next week before the repair was performed. It has now been close to 2 weeks without heat and it is below freezing here. There has been no communication to me from AHS or the HVAC company despite the fact that they have both my home and cell numbers. I do not plan to renew my contract with AHS when this is done.
beware of crooks rite-away services, riverside,ca company. sent by ahs,12/13/10, field supervisor, gary, wrote contract to replumb/replace everything under my kitchen sink amd clear my main drain which is backed up. my cost on the signed contract would be additional 225.00 to install my already owned new faucet, air gap/vent and drain basket, 12/21/10, rite-away agent phoned to inform me gary was fired and a new inspection was needed. chris p. showed up late 12/22/10. after seeing i am very ill, disabled and a medical marijauna patient on a fix low income, chris told me he has an illness and asked me to give him some pot if i had some. i declined. next, chris asked for my copy of the signed contract to compare with his inspection. his was identical, except he missed the rusted, leaking disposal. he wrote in my cost to be 375.00, 150 more than the signed contract and he refused to return my copy of the original contract. this second visit was done without riteaway notifying ahs. i had a witness at both of these events. i am still waiting on ahs to remedy this issue and reporting riteaway to consumer affairs, bbb, dept. of corp and anywhere ekse available.
Avoid AHS for Heating / cooling issue. my issue is this… they’re cheap – they contract with the “cheapest” service companies – where the technicians are not trained or qualified to work on high efficiency units. all the tech’s do in guess and replace pieces hoping that something will fix the issue. in the – they quickly hit the $1500 limit replacing components and the unit still didn’t work.
I have been a customer since 1994. After 17 years of loyalty, they went to complete hell in 2009 and have been wretched to deal with ever since. They left me 1. without gas for two months in June / July this year (hot water, stove, dryer) 2. refused to fix a simple element in my stove after deciding to misinterpret the contractor. 3. allowed an EXTREMELY rude, abusive, phone-slamming and overall completely unprofessional service contractor to be called AGAIN to my home on the same issue AHS had still not resolved in 9 weeks! 4. Left me without a stove from August – they closed my account in December. Including Thanksgiving. 5. Continued demanding money after I had paid it in full – and revoked one of the two credits they had issued to me based on their poor service
I could go on but I am just lucky they “fired” me so I could get out of the horror of depending on them for anything.
Oh and if i did any work myself on anything (fixed a pipe that broke) they claimed it was no longer under warranty.
It’s sad, cuz they were a good little company up until a few years ago. Now, you’re honestly better off without a Home Warranty if you end up with them.
I have had AHS for 9 years and have paid over $4,500 in monthly fees. They take 7 – 10 days just to schedule someone to check out the problem then an additional week to order a part. My tennant wanted weeks for a simple microwave repair. If I had saved the $40 per month I had paid them I could have easily made the repairs they have made to my house and had money left over. I am canceling my contract TODAY!
One month after buying contract washing machine went out, 2 days later service company comes by and then tells us he is not qualified to work on our machine. 5 days later another service company inspects the machine and orders the part. Repairs machine 2 days later. Over a week without washing machine.
Called AHS on Monday, December 13, about garage door opener, service company comes by Tuesday and says he must get ok from AHS.
I call AHS on Thursday asking when repair will be done. They advise me on Friday. No one shows up on Friday. I call AHS again and advise repair should have been done. Repairs are scheduled for Monday.
Both repairs are taking a week or more. Thankful it isn’t the heating unit or the refrigerator.
Trying to deny a claim despite the fact that the contract T’s and C’s indicate it should be covered.
My husband and I just purchased our first home a little over a month ago. The home came with AHS warranty. Everything checked out ok… We thought. Recently ( now that it’s cold ) we have realized the hvac isn’t functioning properly. We called AHS… In the last month they have sent 2 different hvac companies a few times each to “try” to fix our heating and cooling. None have been able to fix the unit. This week it has been in the teens- temperature wise and we still have no heat!!!! One of the contracted heat and cooling companies told us yesterday that he would recommend for us to have a new unit installed….. Later yesterday AHS calls to inform us we will not be receiving any more other services. Apparently before we owned the home, wiring in the unit had been messed up so AHS refused to do their job of helping us get heat. So i pass along to you…..please be careful, dealing with AHS!!!! You may have a warranty with them but expect them to come up with a way to get out of helping repair or replace anything!
I have had them come out 4 times. They have only fixed the problem once, and I’m not so sure that it is totally fixed. The last time they claimed that the duct work and furnace were functioning properly.. it is apparently just that it wasn’t meant to heat all of the rooms in the house. Um.. WHAT? They were rude on the phone and said they don’t pay for upgrades. In my book having them fix a problem isn’t an upgrade. NOT WORTH IT.
Our boiler broke yesterday, we called that day and put in for service. A guy finally make it out aruond noon and said the boiler would need to be replaced. He then says that AHS will not greenlight him to replace it and instead they will contact us about giving us a check so we can get this done at our convience. ITS DECEMBER 13TH, ITS FREEZING OUT AND WE HAVE NO HEAT OR HOT WATER. I’m glad that our family freezing in our house isn’t an issue for them. Won’t be renewing our contract and won’t ever recommend them for anything.
They sent a horrible repairman to my house who made my problem worse. Then I had to pay to have his mistake fixed. When the weather turned cold my heat went out and they wanted to sent the same idiot to my house. I refused and asked for another repairman. They said they didn’t have one. I will never recommend this home warranty company. They have terrrible customer service.
Called for a fan repair, lights come on by themselves. They took my money and said it was an after market fan….Meaning the home builder didn’t put it in and that was subject to interference..Did Nothing. Now my other fan the lights wont turn off. They looked at it said it was mounted incorrectly and not covered. However the contractor would be happy to do it on the side! Hmmmm…I called to get a free second opinion like they say, but because the first electrician said it was not hung properly…I didn’t qualify!! After 3 yrs with this company this was my only claim, and not resolved, I am looking for a new home warranty!! Extremely Unhappy!!!! =(
I have called upon AHS several times in the 3 years I have been with them. Half of the time, I got great service and the other half, was bad service. One time my air conditioner went out so I called and they told me someone would be out in 72 hours. It was 105 degrees outside. I called a company who came right out, but I had to pay the entire bill. Another time I called about my pool filter, It took 6 months to get it fixed. SIX MONTHS!!!! I have a new warranty company now.
