Buyer’s Protection Group was set up in 1987 to sell home warranty products only. In 1989, the company expanded to provide home inspection services as well. BPG acquired LandAmerica Home Warranty and LandAmerica Property Inspections in 2009, thereby expanding further.

The company is currently headquartered in Alpharetta, Georgia and provides services in 14 states across the country. BPG is also a member of the National Home Service Contract Association (NHSCA) and has around 300 employees working for them.

Flexible and comprehensive warranty plans, round the clock customer service facility and efficient repairs are the services that BPG has to offer. The company has yet another feature called the Trade Call Fee Guarantee program, in which a service call fee is charged only if a repair service is actually performed. They also have an Extended Advice program in which users get a full year of direct access to their inspection/ engineer services at no extra cost.
Online services from the company can be accessed through their official website. The site hosts information about the company’s history, their plans, their services and other relevant details. Users can purchase a home warranty and become members through their website. Existing customers can also place service requests and manage their accounts by signing up on their website.

BPG offers warranty products in two different plans:

  • Standard Plan
  • Preferred Plan
 Standard plan is available to both buyers and sellers alike, but the Preferred plan can be bought only by buyers. The Preferred plan has a more extensive coverage and also comes at a higher cost. Service call fee for the plans are priced at $50.

    Used this company for home inspection. Missed over 3K worth in inspection and didn't accept liability as they write in contract not to pay over paid fees for inspection. Do not use this company as they have standard email for reply. They probably send out denial email 5 to 10 times a day. AVOID at all cost.

    Very poor company with bad coverage. It took a long time to schedule air conditioning technician appointment. The policy didn't cover basic necessary chores, like removing old part from the roof, like filling Freon, etc. Everything was charged extra, and a lot. The company did not inform me that they warranty the work only for one month. The aggregate broke a month later. I repaired it with another company. This company is a bad deal for a home warranty. view less

    TALK ABOUT A "DOG AND PONY SHOW"! BPG should be ashamed of themselves, allowed to be called a Home Warranty company. They have to be the worst of them all! We have been without a microwave for 4 weeks, and it's just one excuse after another. 2 weeks ago they told us they were sending a "gift card"...nothing arrived. We are renters, and the landlord opted for a "gift card" to be sent to use for a replacement microwave. After 4 weeks, the gift card finally arrives, and it's for use ONLY at Home Depot. Why wouldn't they send a VISA or American Express gift card that could be used anywhere? Now we won't have the microwave for another week. After reading all these bad reviews, I can see I'm not the only one who feels this way. view less

      I am not able to award this company any stars at all.
      Our hot water heater leaked and made a huge mess. We called the warranty company, BPG. They sent a "contractor." That took two days. They showed up and took a look and said they would provide their report to the warranty company right away to get authorization for the warranty replacement, but it would cost an additional $700 + in uncovered expenses to get things up to code. My water heater is currently in code, just not holding water! Several more back and forth requests, and the BPG finally said that the "contractor" said the water heater failed due to improper installation, and they would not replace it. I would not recommend this company to anyone. I made polite calls asking for status along the way, and received different, vague information with each inquiry. I regret that money and time were wasted on this warranty. view less

      I was satisfied with the service until I tried to renew, then it all went to pieces. I have been trying to renew online and they continually said that I had to renew closer to my expiration date. Well my expiration date was today and that is what it said online so I called and after about 45 minutes and a lot of transfers I was told that they no longer do business in MN. What is that??? Very poor business, and then I started to read the reviews and they were not very good so have to look at some other options or go without home warranty service. view less

      BGP .... Probably the worst company I have ever had to work with. After a week and half of no or ineffective air conditioning I gave up trying to work with this company. They have so manny loop holes. My recommendation is for everyone who is offered a home warrenty by the seller or real estate agent to decline and instead ask for the cash the warranty would cost. This is the only way the consumers can rid the world of these type of companies !!!!!!! In summary DO NOT BUY from BGP or any other home warranty company total scam. view less

      Scam artists

      They only cover damage caused by normal wear and tear, but their technicians are not able to say it was definitively caused by wear and tear so voila they don't cover it. An inside part to my microwave broke but the technician said he wasn't sure it was wear and tear. When I asked how I could break something I can't access they simply said we rely on our technicians. Don't bother buying the warranty isn't worth the paper it is written on. view less

      called on SATURDAY noon and was told there is NO ONE available till MONDAY, as they do NOT have weekend or emergency service to have my hot water tank serviced, before a tech can come out to look at my water heater that is dead, 30yrs old. Asked if I could call on someone to get out to my house just opening up the phone book that has after-hours/emergency service and was told that this would be NOT be paid for by BPG cause it does not meet the warranty guidelines. These guidelines are are totally against what you would think a normal company would go by. They only deal with never heard of before companys that I have yet to find in any phonebook or google.       This place is the worst. Completely incompetent!! The inspector tripped a circuit in the garage and left us with over 400 in thawed freezer food. They refused to take ownership! Report stated that garage did not trip, but my freezer full of ruined food says otherwise. Heard a loud rumbling from my kitchen, ran upstairs only to find the inspector testing the whirlpool tub with the water level below the jets. Yes! Let's burn up the motor in the tub!! Terrible do not waste your money on inspectors who clearly are incompetent!!! view less

      We used BPGI for a home inspection. Don't make the same mistake. Their home inspections are not thorough at all. We uncovered thousands and thousands of dollars of damage to our home that should have been easily found.

      Inspection done on a Wed. morning. As of Saturday morning I have yet to receive the report. Made several calls to 800 number and inspector himself.
      They act like it is not a problem. Promise to resolve ASAP. They said the same thing Thursday night, Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Maybe they are just too big.

      I would highly recommend not utilizing this inspection service. The first time we turned on the dishwasher, it wouldn't drain due to incorrect installation. The inspector never ran it. The shower sounded like a jackhammer when water ran, along with a toilet leaking and 2 other toilets not flushing. 4 outside lighting fixtures were visibly broken and not functional -- all requiring complete replacement. The list continues... None of these issues were caught or noted on the report. The first 2 weeks in our new home have been overshadowed with stress of repairs, time missed from work and stress/worry. view less

      I had BPG for 9 years, had used the warranty from time to time and did not have any complaints. HOWEVER, this year, I did not receive renewal paperwork, and my warranty expired without my knowledge. When I needed a repair to my heater, I had to pay for it myself since I no longer had a home warranty!
      They had sent an email saying that documents were attached, but it did not indicate the documents were renewal documents, and I thought it was advertisements and deleted it.
      When I needed service to my heater, they were, of course, happy to renew my contract at that time, but would not repair my heater since I was currently not covered under my expired contract.
      Before my warranty expired, they should have clearly and timely notified me that it needed to be renewed,and a phone call from their customer service department would have helped as well. I have paid them thousands of dollars over the 9 years I was a customer, and they would not even repair my heater, which turned out to be just a thermostat and not expensive anyway.
      Now they have lost a customer, and have gained bad reviews wherever I can publish them.
      Good going BPG, you get an F on your report card. Thanks for dropping the ball on me.

      AVOID!!! WORST SERVICE EVER!!!!
      They sent in a person to fix my fridge. He came in and took a look at it and said he needed to order parts . He left saying he will come in and finish the repair in the morning. Guess what? He never showed up and he didnt tell us that he left the fridge UNPLUGGED!!!! It not only caused property damage to the fridge by having food go bad and ooze all over it, but caused the water to leak all over the hardwood floor! We called them back more than 30 times and they never pick up the phone!

      I called in another service just to come take a look at my fridge and he informed me that this technician ruined my $5,000 fridge! He cut out parts and he didn't know what he was doing and the damages to the fridge and repair will now cost me $1400 more than the original repair!!!!

      If anything I need an insurance against BPG!! They causr more damage than they repair and they never fix it, they never fix anything they only damage it further. Do you see all the one stars, that tells you something, go somewhere else!!

      The manager, Ed, even told me to go look in the fridge to make sure the ice melted before calling the technician service or he was going to get charged by the technician service THEY sent! view less

      I called BPG for a blocked drain. A few hours later a plumber from AMPM plumbing arrived asked to see the clean out. 5 minutes later I received a call from BPG telling me that the plumber had determined that I needed an additional clean-out, but that was not covered. I asked was covered and BPG told me that covered solutions would not work. I asked why and was told that their expert said so. I asked for another plumber and they said they would not send anyone else.

      So, after the plumber left and I decided to try a bit of Drano. And called the folks at Parker and Sons Plumbing for a second opinion.

      The next day their plumber inspected everything and said the Drano had done the trick.

      I have cancelled my contract with BPG and will find another provider. view less

      Do not buy this warranty! Seller got it as part of the house we purchased, and we paid extra for the pool warranty. We didn't see contract until after closing. Entire contract is in tiny font, which should tell you something. They have so many weird loopholes that nothing is ever covered.       What a shock after reading the reviews that are all so much alike. I choose this company because of the mortgage company that did my closing and they were recommended. I have 2 air conditioners; they both went out at different times; however, within a month I would have to call back because they were broke again. My ice maker stopped working and they sent out 2 different repairmen; it is true, they send out people that do not know the business. My air conditioner has stopped working again; I called and was told that my warranty had expired and I asked why was I not informed or sent a renewal letter. The response was that it would not have been renewed anyway because, "I did not meet the underwriters guidelines that are listed on the policy." If I met them when you took my money at the closing, how could I loose them. The refrigerator could not be fixed and therefore, they were to have replaced it with a new refrigerator as the policy stated. That did not happen. The last repairman that they sent said that it could not be fixed. I will be contacting the mortgage company and telling them to please remove the brochures from their office. I should have checked them out; however, I trusted the mortgage company. There is nothing like a bought lesson. view less

      In three out of four service calls over a two year period, BPG sent incompetent and unqualified people to handle three plumbing requests (three different providers). In each case, I requested that they send someone out who actually knew what they were doing. In two of the cases, they did that without hassling me, but in one case they sent the same person (basically a handyman) back. (The item that they "fixed" is a problem again.) That is the reason that I gave Customer Service 4 stars. But I shouldn't have had to request a second person three times in the first place. Also, my policy is not due for re-up for 4 days, but they have already removed me from their online system. view less

      We have been with BPG @ 6 years with some property we own in Texas. Have used them twice and have had bad service both times and had to go out of network to get the job done. I do not recommend anyone use their service. They are not organized at all and make you wait forever on the phone! We will not renew service with them.

      I have continually called and emailed. Company states they have no repair men in my area to look at dishwasher. I stated since they cannot service I will replace and they reimburse me. They decline since it has not been evaluated? So since they have no one to send for (45 days now) I am stuck with a dishwasher that doesn't work and no end in sight. Worst money ever spent. Save your money and repair things yourself. FYI, I have also filed a BBB complaint. view less

      Stay away from this "warranty" company. They're very difficult to work with, unorganized, poor repairmen, and confrontational when you lodge complaints. Our refrigerator never worked and they refused to hire a certified repairmen, and insisted on using the same one who could never fix it and could barely speak English (making it difficult for us to explain or understand him). When we called (and waited forever each time to speak with someone) the person on the phone acted as though he and she knew nothing of the ongoing problem. It seems like they want you to get fed up and not use their warranty so they can profit. view less
