Buyer’s Protection Group was set up in 1987 to sell home warranty products only. In 1989, the company expanded to provide home inspection services as well. BPG acquired LandAmerica Home Warranty and LandAmerica Property Inspections in 2009, thereby expanding further.

The company is currently headquartered in Alpharetta, Georgia and provides services in 14 states across the country. BPG is also a member of the National Home Service Contract Association (NHSCA) and has around 300 employees working for them.

Flexible and comprehensive warranty plans, round the clock customer service facility and efficient repairs are the services that BPG has to offer. The company has yet another feature called the Trade Call Fee Guarantee program, in which a service call fee is charged only if a repair service is actually performed. They also have an Extended Advice program in which users get a full year of direct access to their inspection/ engineer services at no extra cost.
Online services from the company can be accessed through their official website. The site hosts information about the company’s history, their plans, their services and other relevant details. Users can purchase a home warranty and become members through their website. Existing customers can also place service requests and manage their accounts by signing up on their website.

BPG offers warranty products in two different plans:

  • Standard Plan
  • Preferred Plan
Standard plan is available to both buyers and sellers alike, but the Preferred plan can be bought only by buyers. The Preferred plan has a more extensive coverage and also comes at a higher cost. Service call fee for the plans are priced at $50.

CAN NOT EVEN RATE THEM!!! Reported a problem on 2/29/16 with my range/oven. It was a 3 days before I received call from vendor to set up time to look at then another week before they came out spent 5 minutes said they would call when part was in to get back on rotation. Never received a call. Received an email that I had 5 days to respond to and replace. Agreed to have them delivery new oven and remove old one. They deliveryed new one 3/31/16. Could not install because my range was directed wired. Could not even remove old range. Called customer service on hold for 1 1/2 hours said that was a modification and they could not install. So I ask to speak with supervior and called let message 3 times still no answer. Back to the beginning CAN NOT EVEN RATE THEM!!!! view less

Buyers and Realtors beware! BPG is completely unresponsive when things go wrong! I recently sold my home and the buyer hired BPG for the inspection. It ended up that hiring BPG was a costly mistake for both her and her Realtor. BPG did the inspection, and somehow in the process, flooded my floors. The home was vacant and dry prior to BPG being there, so we know this damage was caused by the only people who had access to the home, you guessed it...BPG. 24 hours after the BPG inspection, the appraiser went to the house and found the flooded kitchen floor. He immediately called my Realtor to inform her of the damage. Upon her arrival, she found the water source was the dishwasher. She also noticed the door was slightly ajar. She opened it up and noticed water in it, so she shut the door and it completed its cycle. She immediately contacted me to inform me of this damage, but it was after hours, so BPG wasn't available. Having a flooded house, I couldn't wait until the next day to handle, so I had a water mitigation company come to the house that night and begin the drying process. Never did I once think BPG wouldn't stand behind their work, but I was wrong.

The next day I received a call from BPG, and it wasn't at all what I expected. Not only did they deny the insurance claim, they didn't even inspect the property or review anything. Being in the insurance industry for 15 plus years, I know this isn't the way a claim of this nature should have been handled. The only investigation BPG did was call their inspector and ask him if he shut the door completely. He said yes, and they closed the claim. Imagine if all the people you did business with acted this way! Of course their inspector is going to deny any wrong doing! BPG explained to me that it isn't their responsibility if my dishwasher leaks, and I agreed. So I had a certified Kenmore rep come over after this happened and he certified that the dishwasher is in good working order, all seals are good and it has no leaks.

So now I can prove that my house was dry and fine prior to BPG doing their inspection. I can prove my dishwasher is in good working order with no leaks, and I can prove that BPG was the only company in the house in that 24 hour period. Seems like any ethical company at this point would stand up and accept responsibility for their damage, but not BPG.

But it gets better! I understand BPG not caring about me, as I'm not the one who hired them to do a job. However, I would have expected when the buyer and buyer's Realtor, who hired them, went back to them asking them to reconsider their position that they would have taken another look. Once again, I was wrong. Feeling horrible about the situation, and being amazed at BPG's response, both the buyer's Realtor and my Realtor kicked in $500/each at closing to help with covering the cost of the damage caused by BPG. In addition to this, any money I had allocated to fixing items the buyer had concerns about was now being spent on fixing water damage caused by BPG. So the buyer also lost money by choosing BPG as her inspection company. BPG is aware of all of this, yet still left their clients hang out to dry...impressive on their part to say the least!

I hope whoever reads this understands ethics plays a big role in companies we all choose to work with. I think everyone can agree that after this happened, BPG had an obligation to inspect this claim. Making one phone call to the inspector and asking him if he shut the door completely and ran the dishwasher through cycle is hardly investigating the claim. Furthermore, it shows BPG's only goal was deny any wrong doing and get out of the situation without paying a dime...even if it meant leaving the people who hired them financially on the hook for their damage. This speaks volumes about their company, and their ethics.

I am taking them to small claims court for the remaining out of pocket expenses I've incurred due to their water damage. Both Realtors, mine and buyers, are repeating this story to anyone who will listen. I will do the same. Good luck staying in business when you treat your clients like this! By the way, look at all the 1 star reviews here people. It isn't this way by accident! view less

This was my first claim with BPG they are the worst their service vendor has poor customer service skills and could care less about the BPG customer, I been waiting over 2 week to have a washer fixed to find out that I should call Sears and pay another service call and labor because 1 of the two parts I need is covered until 2019. Horrible Company. Renewed for 10 years. AC breaks down and they send repairmen that represent them. In other words they will not replace failing AC unless it is not able to function at all. Our bill has almost doubled and when we called to ask for repair, we were approved to use out of area company as we were told they had no one in area. When the company came out they said the unit was in horrible shape , barely functioning within limits. THE COMPRESSOR WAS MECHANICALLY FAILING. When we summited the findings they found another repair company to say it was just an old unit. Well BPG 10 years ago when we started paying 400 a year the unit was young. Horrible company. view less

During a home inspection, one of their inspectors gouged into a basement crack in several places and left crumbled wall on my floor and didn’t say a word. (He also moved the clothing in my closet and left it a mess.) My Realtor was appalled and contacted the company, who sent a patronizing letter that only made excuses. I asked them to clean up the mess and fix it, but instead I got another letter that essentially said that since my wall was already cracked, nanny nanny boo boo, they could really do whatever they wanted to it. It seems to me the bottom line is that they should respect homes and homeowners. Their behavior has been UNPROFESSIONAL in the extreme. view less

A NIGHTMARE TO DEAL WITH! STAY CLEAR!!!

This company has been a nightmare from the time of our home inspection onward. The inspector was completely incompetent and missed well in excess of $25,000 in needed repairs to our home (including the fact that the fireplaces were crumbling, areas of water damage to the floors, missed open electrical junction boxes in the attic, electrical wiring done with tape instead of correct junctions, blown thermoregulator tank on the water heater, and a broken pressure regulator that left every sink and plumbing fixture in the house shooting out water at 100 PSI). When I mentioned this last part to the inspector -- that when you turned on a sink, it had such high water pressure that it shot water everywhere -- he said, "Well, you don't have to turn the faucet on all the way.

We didn't know that there was a pressure regulator for the entire house to maintain the proper pressure, and, oh yeah, TO KEEP THE PIPES FROM BURSTING. Now, after repairing the pressure regulator, they refuse to fix the faucets which leak because the high pressure damaged the gaskets. They say that "this is secondary damage, and we don't cover that". So, after a YEAR of trying to get our leaky shower fixed, they are still giving us the run-around.

To add insult to injury, they are now calling (under their new company of Fidelity) asking to see why we haven't renewed our home warranty with them!! Gee, I wonder????? Does anyone EVER renew with them after suffering their poor service for a year? view less

I have been using BPG since 2009 and had pretty good out comes until the past two years. Back in June 2015 my dish washer broke. It took a month and a half and three vendors to fix it. Right now i have been waiting 5 days to get authorization to replace a coil in my air conditioner. I know it is covered and I don't understand why they are taking so long. Many times over the past 2 years I've had to find my own vender to do the work which is a nightmare in itself in getting BPG to authorize the work. I heard BPG has recently merged with a company called Fidelity. I suspect that is one of the reasons BPG is providing such DISMAL service. I have 2 homes covered by BPG and I will not be renewing my contracts. It's such a shame to see a company run into the ground. view less

Wow!! I really don't know where to start!! BPG has been such a horrible experience! I had a faucet repaired and a toilet repaired out of pocket with a plumber of my choice. Also, I had water pressure issues that finally got resolved through my plumber. I had no other choice but to use a local plumber because The dip stick plumber they sent out (the only one in their network) knew about as much about plumbing as my 4th grade son. After I got everything repaired to my satisfaction I was left with a $768.26 from my plumber. I say all this because I was informed that I would be covered 100% if I went out of their network. I have called numerous times and been placed on hold a total of 4 times totaling 3 hours. I have sent more that 10 emails to 3 different people that are suppose to be associated with BPG. However, I get the run around every time. It was just brought to my attention that BPG was in the process of being sold to Fidelity. It sad to say that makes a little more since to me now. I wanted to give every one a heads up to the hell I have been through trying to get reimbursed and with no end in sight. The only reason that I write this is to save someone the grief of BPG or Fidelity. I"d definitely find another company for my home warranty. view less

Used this company for home inspection. Missed over 3K worth in inspection and didn't accept liability as they write in contract not to pay over paid fees for inspection. Do not use this company as they have standard email for reply. They probably send out denial email 5 to 10 times a day. AVOID at all cost.

Very poor company with bad coverage. It took a long time to schedule air conditioning technician appointment. The policy didn't cover basic necessary chores, like removing old part from the roof, like filling Freon, etc. Everything was charged extra, and a lot. The company did not inform me that they warranty the work only for one month. The aggregate broke a month later. I repaired it with another company. This company is a bad deal for a home warranty. view less

TALK ABOUT A "DOG AND PONY SHOW"! BPG should be ashamed of themselves, allowed to be called a Home Warranty company. They have to be the worst of them all! We have been without a microwave for 4 weeks, and it's just one excuse after another. 2 weeks ago they told us they were sending a "gift card"...nothing arrived. We are renters, and the landlord opted for a "gift card" to be sent to use for a replacement microwave. After 4 weeks, the gift card finally arrives, and it's for use ONLY at Home Depot. Why wouldn't they send a VISA or American Express gift card that could be used anywhere? Now we won't have the microwave for another week. After reading all these bad reviews, I can see I'm not the only one who feels this way. view less

I am not able to award this company any stars at all.
Our hot water heater leaked and made a huge mess. We called the warranty company, BPG. They sent a "contractor." That took two days. They showed up and took a look and said they would provide their report to the warranty company right away to get authorization for the warranty replacement, but it would cost an additional $700 + in uncovered expenses to get things up to code. My water heater is currently in code, just not holding water! Several more back and forth requests, and the BPG finally said that the "contractor" said the water heater failed due to improper installation, and they would not replace it. I would not recommend this company to anyone. I made polite calls asking for status along the way, and received different, vague information with each inquiry. I regret that money and time were wasted on this warranty. view less

Inspection done on a Wed. morning. As of Saturday morning I have yet to receive the report. Made several calls to 800 number and inspector himself.
They act like it is not a problem. Promise to resolve ASAP. They said the same thing Thursday night, Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Maybe they are just too big.

I would highly recommend not utilizing this inspection service. The first time we turned on the dishwasher, it wouldn't drain due to incorrect installation. The inspector never ran it. The shower sounded like a jackhammer when water ran, along with a toilet leaking and 2 other toilets not flushing. 4 outside lighting fixtures were visibly broken and not functional -- all requiring complete replacement. The list continues... None of these issues were caught or noted on the report. The first 2 weeks in our new home have been overshadowed with stress of repairs, time missed from work and stress/worry. view less

Inspector did not adequately inspect the home, now the company won't cover the issues they are having that he did not report on, because he did not inspect the items sufficiently.

He also stated he tested the microwave and it passed. Microwave does not work. For them to fix the microwave, now I have to pay them a $50 service fee to cover a mistake they made!

Absolutely absurd, such a scam. view less

I had BPG for 9 years, had used the warranty from time to time and did not have any complaints. HOWEVER, this year, I did not receive renewal paperwork, and my warranty expired without my knowledge. When I needed a repair to my heater, I had to pay for it myself since I no longer had a home warranty!
They had sent an email saying that documents were attached, but it did not indicate the documents were renewal documents, and I thought it was advertisements and deleted it.
When I needed service to my heater, they were, of course, happy to renew my contract at that time, but would not repair my heater since I was currently not covered under my expired contract.
Before my warranty expired, they should have clearly and timely notified me that it needed to be renewed, and a phone call from their customer service department would have helped as well. I have paid them thousands of dollars over the 9 years I was a customer, and they would not even repair my heater, which turned out to be just a thermostat and not expensive anyway.
Now they have lost a customer, and have gained bad reviews wherever I can publish them.
Good going BPG, you get an F on your report card. Thanks for dropping the ball on me.

      AVOID!!! WORST SERVICE EVER!!!!
They sent in a person to fix my fridge. He came in and took a look at it and said he needed to order parts . He left saying he will come in and finish the repair in the morning. Guess what? He never showed up and he didnt tell us that he left the fridge UNPLUGGED!!!! It not only caused property damage to the fridge by having food go bad and ooze all over it, but caused the water to leak all over the hardwood floor! We called them back more than 30 times and they never pick up the phone!

I called in another service just to come take a look at my fridge and he informed me that this technician ruined my $5,000 fridge! He cut out parts and he didn't know what he was doing and the damages to the fridge and repair will now cost me $1400 more than the original repair!!!!

If anything I need an insurance against BPG!! They causr more damage than they repair and they never fix it, they never fix anything they only damage it further. Do you see all the one stars, that tells you something, go somewhere else!!

The manager, Ed, even told me to go look in the fridge to make sure the ice melted before calling the technician service or he was going to get charged by the technician service THEY sent! view less
