Buyer’s Protection Group was set up in 1987 to sell home warranty products only. In 1989, the company expanded to provide home inspection services as well. BPG acquired LandAmerica Home Warranty and LandAmerica Property Inspections in 2009, thereby expanding further.

The company is currently headquartered in Alpharetta, Georgia and provides services in 14 states across the country. BPG is also a member of the National Home Service Contract Association (NHSCA) and has around 300 employees working for them.

Flexible and comprehensive warranty plans, round the clock customer service facility and efficient repairs are the services that BPG has to offer. The company has yet another feature called the Trade Call Fee Guarantee program, in which a service call fee is charged only if a repair service is actually performed. They also have an Extended Advice program in which users get a full year of direct access to their inspection/ engineer services at no extra cost.
Online services from the company can be accessed through their official website. The site hosts information about the company’s history, their plans, their services and other relevant details. Users can purchase a home warranty and become members through their website. Existing customers can also place service requests and manage their accounts by signing up on their website.

BPG offers warranty products in two different plans:

  • Standard Plan
  • Preferred Plan
Standard plan is available to both buyers and sellers alike, but the Preferred plan can be bought only by buyers. The Preferred plan has a more extensive coverage and also comes at a higher cost. Service call fee for the plans are priced at $50.

I called BPG for a blocked drain. A few hours later a plumber from AMPM plumbing arrived asked to see the clean out. 5 minutes later I received a call from BPG telling me that the plumber had determined that I needed an additional clean-out, but that was not covered. I asked was covered and BPG told me that covered solutions would not work. I asked why and was told that their expert said so. I asked for another plumber and they said they would not send anyone else.

So, after the plumber left and I decided to try a bit of Drano. And called the folks at Parker and Sons Plumbing for a second opinion.

The next day their plumber inspected everything and said the Drano had done the trick.

I have cancelled my contract with BPG and will find another provider. view less

Do not buy this warranty! Seller got it as part of the house we purchased, and we paid extra for the pool warranty. We didn't see contract until after closing. Entire contract is in tiny font, which should tell you something. They have so many weird loopholes that nothing is ever covered. Hot tub heater, pool lights, AC, plumbing issues...for all they found a way to say it wasn't covered. Doing business with them will mean throwing money away. view less

What a shock after reading the reviews that are all so much alike. I choose this company because of the mortgage company that did my closing and they were recommended. I have 2 air conditioners; they both went out at different times; however, within a month I would have to call back because they were broke again. My ice maker stopped working and they sent out 2 different repairmen; it is true, they send out people that do not know the business. My air conditioner has stopped working again; I called and was told that my warranty had expired and I asked why was I not informed or sent a renewal letter. The response was that it would not have been renewed anyway because, "I did not meet the underwriters guidelines that are listed on the policy." If I met them when you took my money at the closing, how could I loose them. The refrigerator could not be fixed and therefore, they were to have replaced it with a new refrigerator as the policy stated. That did not happen. The last repairman that they sent said that it could not be fixed. I will be contacting the mortgage company and telling them to please remove the brochures from their office. I should have checked them out; however, I trusted the mortgage company. There is nothing like a bought lesson. view less

In three out of four service calls over a two year period, BPG sent incompetent and unqualified people to handle three plumbing requests (three different providers). In each case, I requested that they send someone out who actually knew what they were doing. In two of the cases, they did that without hassling me, but in one case they sent the same person (basically a handyman) back. (The item that they "fixed" is a problem again.) That is the reason that I gave Customer Service 4 stars. But I shouldn't have had to request a second person three times in the first place. Also, my policy is not due for re-up for 4 days, but they have already removed me from their online system. view less

I have continually called and emailed. Company states they have no repair men in my area to look at dishwasher. I stated since they cannot service I will replace and they reimburse me. They decline since it has not been evaluated? So since they have no one to send for (45 days now) I am stuck with a dishwasher that doesn't work and no end in sight. Worst money ever spent. Save your money and repair things yourself. FYI, I have also filed a BBB complaint. view less

Stay away from this "warranty" company. They're very difficult to work with, unorganized, poor repairmen, and confrontational when you lodge complaints. Our refrigerator never worked and they refused to hire a certified repairmen, and insisted on using the same one who could never fix it and could barely speak English (making it difficult for us to explain or understand him). When we called (and waited forever each time to speak with someone) the person on the phone acted as though he and she knew nothing of the ongoing problem. It seems like they want you to get fed up and not use their warranty so they can profit. view less

Very dissapointed with BPG in the way they handled my first request for service. The warranty system is set up in such a way that BPG contracts under-qualified technicians to provide expert opinions on repairs with biased and unfavorable outcomes to not provide the covered repairs. That is the standard method of operation practived by BPG.
In my situation, my A/C system started to leak water from the coils area inside the unit. The condensation pan that collects the water had rusted from normal use of 25 years and should had been repaired and/or replaced by BPG. Instead, BPG claims per "their technician" that, the A/C unit had been improperly installed causing the pan that collects the water to rust out.
I obtained a the service of an A/C service professional to inspect my A/C unit and his conclusion was that the decay of the collector pan was due to normal wear and should had been covered by BPG. Furthermore (and to my surprise), my technician informed me that he was aware of BPG's practices and knew of the BPG contractors used in my area. I was advised that Omega Appliance in Tarzana (BPG's contractor) are well known in the area for under-qualified service, and that BPG ultimately uses them to deny costly service repairs.
Now, I am struggling to get a refund..... They are non-responsive to process a refund. Beware! view less

On May 23, 2014 we closed our mortgage and as part of the closing, a 1-year Home Warranty (BPG or Buyers Protection Plan) was provided by the seller. To our bad luck, on Thursday, June 05, 2014 our AC went out. I called BPG first thing on the morning of Friday June 06, 2014. The wait was over 15 minutes until I decided to make use of their automated call back service. Finally I got a call and the "order" was put in for an HVAC contractor. The HVAC contractor was very responsive and same day got to our place. To further our bad luck, the HVAC technician told us that the compressor had no power and at that point an electrician needed to come in to power the unit first so then they could assess the compressor status. Just note that inside the house we are about 83 degrees. The HVAC technician said he would report this back to BPG so that in turn BPG could schedule an electrician. Day 3 without AC (Saturday June 07, 2014), it's about 10am CST and still no call from the electrician. I called BPG back and again waited about 20 minutes for an answer. Finally I get someone on the call and they said that the order had already been placed for an electrician, but they could not do anything else at that point. BPG rep then provided me the name of the local company. I made 4 phone calls to the electrician company and finally get someone to call me around 4pm CST. At this point its about 85 degrees inside the house. The electrician then tells me that since it's after business hours that I would have to pay $250 for the first hour and then $135 per additional hour and then see if BPG would reimburse me. He also said that from his experience, that route BPG does not reimburse customers. He called and I called BPG and left voicemail message on the so called "emergency line" because I needed this taken care of. After about an hour on Saturday, someone from BPG calls me and says that if I want an electrician under "emergency" then I would have to pay their ongoing fee of $250 for the first hour, plus any extra hours, because it was not BPG's policy to cover "emergency" type of calls. I asked the rude lady why wouldn't this be covered? That's the point of having a "Home Warranty" protection plan, so that in events like this, you can count on someone to protect your home. The only thing she kept repeating is that this was BPG's policy.

    To BPG's CEO:

How do you expect to grow and stay in business if your business practices and politics are NOT protecting your customers; the ones that pay for these 'warranties' in the first place; the ones that pay for your salary and the ones you put on the phone to respond to emergencies? Just like you pay for automobile or health insurance, you expect to be covered when you get on a car accident or have a health issue. How is it possible to sell a deceiving product when the only thing you protect is your stakeholder's pocketbook?

YOU and your executive and management team should be ashamed to collect money up front from the customers who in the event of an emergency are denied protection! Your company name is in vane as it does NOT honor protecting the buyer; so called Buyers Protection Group. The only thing you have protected me is against you as I will NEVER recommend BPG to anyone in my circle of influence or social media. In fact, I want to share my experience with the social media so that people are aware and beware of BPG. view less

No thanks, seriously? My inspector Mike who works for this company and was also recommended by my Realtor (which I paid around $500 at closing for the inspection plus another $600 for a year of BPG) said everything he missed within the first 30 days was guaranteed to be covered. He missed my air conditioning leaking into my walls for years which caused me 7K damage on my home purchase....Black mold all through the walls of my bedroom, bathroom etc. and your company refused to cover because Mary Beth would NEVER call me back. I finally gave up. You all denied it because he put "rust on air conditioning pan" which I fixed the first week I moved in. Mike came to my house and said "you are getting me in trouble, Mary Beth is snapping at me for missing all these items at inspection, it must of been because I was training a new guy when I inspected your house". Hmm he admitted guild at missing all these major flaws in my home. Also paid for 3x on a toilet that never worked. You kept sending out someone costing me $60 each time until I finally bought a new toilet. I paid max premium to have my pool covered. The sweeper died withing the first 6 months and you would not cover so I paid out of pocket for a new one. Dishwasher broke and it took the guy 4x to finally fix it leaving me without a dishwasher for almost 3 months. Your protection sucks, I should of took the air conditioning issue to court. I've had 3 bad experiences with this company, the last of which culminated with my AC breaking down. It was 14 year old unit and needed to be replaced. They would only pay for the unit itself, not the parts needed to connect the unit to the house! How ridiculous. Thus I had to come out of pocket an extra $300! In the other two instances (heater, dishwasher) they were equally as chincy and refused to actually pay for what was required to fix the problem. Also, every time you want to speak with someone on the phone, be prepared to hold for 5-10 minutes. view less

Have a home warranty with them. I've filed 6 claims and they always find a way to declare the claim as not covered.
First, my kitchen faucet was leaking and it wasn't covered because it was not the basic model. So they sent a check for a sum that doesn't cover the replacement and repair of the damage.

Then, a strong sewage smell coming from my kid's bathroom wasn't covered because the damage wasn't exposed.

In Janurary 2014, my oven got fire. Had to call 911, the firefighters came and they stop the fire and took the range off its place. BPG took at least 4 days to respond so I went ahead and bought a new range (firefighters told us it would be a risk to use the old one again). BPG said they can't pay because they couldn't prove that the old one was unusable.

Now, I have a huge leak in a bathroom coming from the bathtub and from the HVAC condensate line. They said they can't repair it because the damage is not exposed.

This has been a nightmare. A total rip off. view less
Have a home warranty with them. I've filed 6 claims and they always find a way to declare the claim as not covered.

Do not use this company if you want a home warranty use someone else. They are slow to respond and many times do not have contracts to do the work and will require you to find and pay for your own repairs with the promise that they will pay you directly. They will not! The service representitives do not care when I told them I was going to write them a bad review their response watt go ahead and do it if that is how I felt. Don't bother canceling if you don't like their service you will only get pennies back compared to what you paid. They have no honor at all. view less

I paid for a premium coverage policy for my 'upgraded' kitchen. This company doesn't have repair people qualified to repair my 'upgraded' refrigerator. After 5 service visits unable to figure out what was wrong, we called an independent factory authorized repair person. He said BPG's repair group had put 'enough freon for 3 refrigerators'. BPG would only cover about 1/2 the cost of the factory authorized repair person. view less

This company should be locked up. We spent over $650 and signed up with them because our sellers used them for our first year in our new home and we just continued the contract. We just called about our refrigerator and they said it was not covered. We have had 2 other warranty companies over the years and of all the appliances in the kitchen the refrigerator is the most important. Granted we did not read the contract thorougly but when it ways kitchen appliances are covered, you should not have to read the fine print. what a disgusting company!! Stay away. Back to Home Shield and/or Americcan Protection. Never had a problem with them. Who licenses this type of company???? view less

Won't repair our refrigerator. Service group they sent out to fix it aren't an authorized repair group for the brand and after 4 trips are still only 'guessing' at what is wrong.

I requested that my SPA equipment be repaired under the policy which cost me $720.00/-0- Claims prior to this one after 11 months. My policy covered both the pool and spa equipment. They would replace my pool pump that was working fine but would not repair or replace any of my SPA equipment because it was not connected directly to the pool. My Policy Declaration stated that when the equipment is not common then the policy will cover one or the other, my choice. They refused to cover my SPA equipment stating that the pool pump needed to be replaced. I requested a manager to call me on 4 different occasions and not one returned call was made by BPG.

They sent out a inspector who did extensive "destructive testing" on our home. He managed to damage several things in our nice home, flooded a master bath which later soaked into (now water damaged) ceiling of floor below. Many of the things on his home buyers report were legal (C.Y.A.) items and he did not actually get up on a ladder or look very hard. Example: "possible wood rot in upstairs window frame, unable to confirm". Do these guys not have a ladder? Are you not being paid to inspect the home? If you cannot state the condition then do not mention it in your report. It was like having an attorney inspect the home in my opinion, then cover themselves with a bunch of statements. The guy that looked at home was not a newbie, he allegedly has 10 years experience on the job. view less

No worth 1 star, Horrible, I believe they are no more than a scam and should be barred from doing business.I am filing complaints with the County attorney, registrar of contractors, and the better business bureau. Being a Realtor I tried the firm my company referred but was blown away by the poor way they take care of a problem. I had several roof leaks due to a down pour, the guy they sent out barely spoke English, I asked him to go through the house and also check the whole roof but their roof repair company only figured the cost for one area at $575.00 however what about the rest of the roof leaks? Their company said the max was $1,000.00 but would not pay any additional as their poor speaking representative said the cost for the one repair was $575.00 they are absolutely clueless about fix the rest of the leaks or at least paying me the allowed max. I had 5 other roof companies look at my roof and all agreed that at least the max should have been paid. I am spending $14,000.00 to fix my roof. view less

I had the BPG coverage for 2 years. However, the company decided not to extend the coverage for another, and I was not notified in any way. I realized after a year when it was time to renew the policy. However, I was told by customer service that coverage extension is at company discretion and company decided not to extend, thus no notification was send to me when my policy expired in year 2013. Also, the customer service rep did share the reason for such decision. It hurts to find out that company like BPG do these things. view less

Horrible... the worst customer service ever. PLEASE READ this before buyer a home warranty through BPG. Our fridge was on the fritz. 3 different companies and 7 service repair guys later they decided it was unrepairable. This was over the course of 4 month. I had to haggle with both the repair companies AND the service representatives. To get any response. Here's the kicker. We have an expensive stainless steal fridge. They gave us the CHEAPEST black fridge as our only option.

Terrible in all aspects of business. Issues with my oven/microwave combo. They sent out Prolite appliance. The tech damaged the door and broke a piece of shrouding, now convection oven blows more air than before. I called back BPG and explained. I was told that is between Prolite appliance and myself. I called Prolite and was told they were done and would not come back out. I then called another appliance repair place (where I originally purchased from) and explained. Their tech said it would have to be brought in for repairs which is $160 for remove and reinstall. Now BPG says they will not pay for R&R.
So now I have to pay for damage done. BPG will not help in anyway.

We bought a home warranty contract from BPG on April 5, 2011 with effective date 5/6/11 for $645. BPG denied AC evaporator coil leak as pre-existing on 5/12/11. Deductible was $30. We had the AC repaired at our own expense. The technician said we did not have an evap coil leak (still don't as of 1/13/14), that if we did, there would be no way to tell when it started, that the amount of freon leak alleged by BPG was impossible because it exceeded the capacity of the AC. In addition BPG denied coverage of rammer failure in trash compactor as pre-existing on 7/19/11 when all it would have taken to repair was replacement of the power nuts ($12 on line) but BPG’s technician wrecked the compactor during his 3 ½ hour service call. I took them to small claims court and won a judgment large enough to cover the AC repair and replacement of the trash compactor and court costs. It was a hassle but way worth it to get a ruling against this company which denies so many claims as pre-existing. view less
