| Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights

I purchased this Home Warranty after the “Sales Person” promised some changes in order for me to purchase. He changed the waiting period from 30 days to 14 days; promised reduced service charges and that my warranty would cover both refrigerators in my home and including ice maker. Once I received the paperwork/contract; no such changes were made to the agreement and the customer service was extremely rude and refused to honor the agreement that was made at time of purchase.
They have agreed to refund my money; I hope I see it. Lesson learned don’t pay until you see it in writing. Read their whole contract; there are other surprises you probably didn’t know about.
This company (Empire Warranty Company) is a scam, first they tell you, your coverage starts on 30 days, then when I called them after 33 days to report a problem with them, they told me that they need to wait until they collect their second payment from my credit card. So I go head and fix my sprinkle system broken heads and that fixed the problem, 5 days later I notice that my sprinkle system gets stock in one place, I am not sure what is wrong with it, so I called them and they told me someone will get back to me within 24 hours, three days later on 5/25/2010 I called them and asked them why they have not called me back and they ignore the question and transfer me to a kid name JJ Bivaz and this kid told me because I have called on 17th that something is wrong with my sprinkle system therefore this is a same problem and called me a scam artist, and told me that they will not come and fix the problem, no matter what and he is going to cancel my contract because basically, they do not want to come and fix the problem, they or I do not even know what is the problem. but he cancel my contract I called his supervisor so called Brad Hughes and basically he told me that my contract is void and they will not honor it and will not fix the problem. I say this is Scam Company until you have not put in any claims they take your money, as soon as you put in a claim they call you scam artist.
I submitted a claim to have my air condition unit checked out for a leak. I was told that since I had two units, only one would be covered. no where in the contract is this stated. I told the representative that most two story homes had two units. how would they designate which was primary and which was secondary. he said which ever one they worked on first was primary. this made no sense to me. when i asked for furthur information i was rudely told my claim was denied and hung up on. please be aware this company is a fraud.
I was told that my warranty would begin in 30 days. After a few weeks I called to ask if they do duct cleaning and they said no and also told me my policy was to begin Sunday, which was 30 days from the day I paid. A few days later the gas company came out to turn on our gas. Wed just moved in. The guy said he was afraid to light the gas furnace bc it was unsafe. The ac worked fine but we’d have trouble come winter with the heater. So I called empire and they said that policy hadn’t yet begun!! This was Wednesday….after the Sunday that it was to kick in. And they wouldn’t pay it anyway bc it was pre- existing. Hmmm….. They said 30 days from when they get payment from the bank- not 30 days from when they ran ur cc. So…. The customer should know this how???? I demanded, & got my money back.
We just want to say a BIG “THANK YOU!” The problem was that our washing machine wouldn’t drain. First, you folks were so courteous, polite and helpful. The contractor Comfort Home Appliance were the same and efficient and timely. From the horror stories others had told me, I can’t wait to tell them how lucky we are to have Empire.
Empire responded to my phone request within 4 hours, we contacted the contractor Comfort who scheduled a technician for the next morning, within 24 hours. He explained the problem so I could understand.
I sent the first part of this review to Empire and they told me I could write a review if I wanted. But I do not consider that a request by the company to post a review.
Thanks!
I found this company after being totally ripped off by another company. EMPIRE has fufilled a need and YES they sent a Plumber within a day (it was not an emergency). The plumber called and I was allowed to replace a part in my shower and fix a leaky toilet. I AM 100% satisfied and I pray this type of service continues. I also purchased one for my elder parents that’s how happy I am about EMPIRE.
**I have two air conditioners and I am a single level home and I told them I had two. I paid a little extra but I live in the desert and we need to be truthful **

We were promised a 0 day waiting period, when we called in for service on day 14 the service dept said no, they would never do that. Larry (supervixor is a joke) said he was in charge and there was nobody else to talk to. Then after several requests to speak to his boss over and over again, he passed me another person, who seemed to be his boss (maybe friend) again calling us liers. He says they don’t decrease the waiting period for anybody. So we canceled our policy with them… While I was on the phone with them, my wife called their sales number and got a quote with a 15 day waiting period, down from 30 days….
So I informed them that they need better comunciations and cancelled my policy….

They are a complete scam and from my dealings with them over the past two months covering the heating, water heater and pool. they lied and never covered anything. I plan on filing a complain with the BBB and the state attorney general
they say $500 cap on appliances however my washer needs a new control panel $275.00 they are giving me $150.00 saying it could go out again
I signed the Contract with Empire Home Warranty (EHW) on 06/14/10 and paid the full amount (using a credit card) at the same day
On 07/17/10 I reported about an AC problem. They told me that someone will get back to me within 24 hours, but nobody contacted me. Next day I called them again (outside was 94 F!) and asked them about fixing the problem. Their representative repeated the same “24 hours”. But when on 7/19/2010 I called again and asked them why they have not called me back, they just ignored the question and transfer me to a person by the name Chad and this guy told me that they do not accept my claim because I have called (on 07/17/10) during the “30-days waiting period”. I contacted my Bank and they sent a confirmation that the transaction was posted on 06/14/10 and Empire Home Warranty received a full amount on 06/16/10. I contacted EHW again and sent them Bank’s confirmation. However, the same representative (Chad) continued to say that they received a payment only 06/19/10. I said “That’s enough!” and asked just to cancel the Contract.
I suppose this company has a good “set” of other tricks which you may know if make business with EHW and report any home problem even in 60 days after enrollment.
So, be aware this company is a real fraud!
This company gave me the shaft like everyone else on here. I need a new electrical box replaced at my house and was told they were going to only pay for 2 breakers to be replaced. Their explanation for this…”collateral damage” they said since a new washer and dryer was installed that this is considered collateral damage. I had two electricians say the entire box needed to be replaced, if you look at the box it is completely fried from the top of the box, you can clearly tell that it is not the breakers to the washer and dryer. I was told it was an extreme fire hazard and this scam company did not care. They cursed us out and hung up on us and said they were refunding our entire policy amount. DO NOT USE THE COMPANY! LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE ON HERE! I say it is time for a class action lawsuit against this company, FALSE ADVERTISEMENT EMPIRE! FAILURE TO GUARANTEE YOUR WARRANTY!
This company denies every claim and stalled for 2 months on a claim. They told me the water heater was not covered and it states that it does on the contract. It seems I speak to the same person and they give me a different name every time… This is the worst compant I have ever had to deal with and they are a scam. I wish that I would have read these reviews before paying them.
SCAM! SCAM! SCAM!
This company uses doubletalk and fine print to weasel out of their responsibilities’. Their customer service is horrible, they are unprofessional, and your complaints never really seem to reach a supervisor but only the worker in the next chair playing manager for the day. They are quick to give a common name as to who they are and become defensive if you dare to complain. I have been with this company since January of 2010, and as of September 2010 I am cancelling my contract. I am totally dissatisfied with their service and only wish that I had shopped around more carefully before being taken by this farce of a company
BUYER BEWARE!!! Just like many of the other customers of Empire Home Warranty, I got my claim rejected for no good reason. My refrigerator broke down and called to place a claim. Now I have 3 young children who like any other American kid drinks milk by the gallons. After almost a week living out of an ice chest cooler, a repair tech finally showed up to access the problem. The compressor was gone and it would take another 3-5 days for the parts to be delivered upon Empire approval. After repeated calls, silent hold times, blind transfers and rude customer service reps claiming to be supervisors, my claim was denied after almost 2 weeks because they claim there were signs of prior repairs, and that i told them that i bought the house 6yrs ago. Of course that is why any sensible home owner will need warranty coverage. I intend to write to the company president, BBB and my state AG, go into arbitration and follow through to the end. IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THIS CATCHES UP WITH EMPIRE! BUYER BEWARE!!
I hope my review will save many of you time, money and headaches. This company is the WORST I have ever dealt with. First of all you can never get in touch with them on the weekends or early in the morning. They calim that they open at 8AM, at 10AM there is still on one available to speak with. They have an answering service which tells you that they will repsond in 24 hours and they NEVER DO. You will be calling them for days on end trying to get your probelem sorted it. I wish I had never paid for my warranty with this company. All of the problems I have had I had to get another company to come in to fix it. Save yourself the heachaches and STAY AWAY FROM EMPIRE HOME WARRANTY.
My contract ends as of February 2011, and I have already told them that I am cancelling it. They are simply the worst home warranty company ever.
It was a great experience to deal with courteous reps, they are eager to answer questions about my policy as i was unsure if my garbage disposal would be covered as it was making noise and was causing the pipe to leak below the sink. An hour later I received an email with the name and telephone number of the plumber and i called them before they called me as i was leaving for the weekend the following day and i wanted the work completed before I left. The plumber was able to come at the end of the day and also needed to install a new pipe along with the garbage disposal. The plumber told them that the old pipe also needed replacing due to the leak and it only cost me the service fee. The plumber seemed to like them too as they were able to reach them after hours for an approval. i am only 3 months into my policy and I am going to tell my brothers to sign up their homes with them.
Our washing machine started to make noises and stop draining. i Contacted Empire and a kind claims rep contacted me back within a couple of hours to find out who is the manufacturer so they send the appropriate service company as some of their repair companies only service certain makes. i was contacted back by the repair company to set up an appt and the washer was repaired within 7 hrs. It only costed me a call and an inexpensive service fee.
I had a problem with my dishwasher not turning on last week and they dispatched A1 appliance repairs who came the next day and he said that it needed a new control board which he needed to order. Empire gave them authorization to order the parts and they were back 4 days later to install it. I was surprised to get a call from Empire a day later to make sure i was happy as i had a bad experience with another warranty company before them. I will tell my friends about them.
Six months after signing up with Empire, I had a plumbing leak under my house. Not only are they NOT available 24 hours a day as promised, they would not return my calls, and I had to call an emergency plumber. Empire would not pay for any repairs, not even the amount they would supposedly authorize for one of their own vendors. I cancelled my policy and another on my son’s house. That was July 13, and I have STILL NOT RECEIVED a refund check. I have spoken to their company at least ten times since then, and despite promises of a refund, I have not received anything in now over three months. They are NOT AN HONEST COMPANY.
I have two homes and purchased two warranty plans in March, service started in April. The first part of August I called to file a claim that my garbage disposal was broken, it took a week but I finally had a plumber out but when he called for authorization the office was closed for the weekend because they are back east and he collected my deductible and left. On Monday I called and they said they faxed the authorization but my plumber never received it and again on Tuesday the same thing. On Wednesday they denied my claim because they said I threatened to cancel my service (what service??)but actually once they received the cost of repairs they refused to authorize the service. I filed a claim with the Better Business Bureau and to date have not resolved the issue. So far this company has cost me $679.00 which I paid for two houses for a year contract, $45.00 for the deductible I had to pay the plumber, $20.00 I paid the neighbor to wait for plumber, $99.00 to purchase a garbage disposal and $50.00 which I will be paying to have it installed and not to mention the time I have spent on the phone and/or internet trying to get this problem resolved. Beware of the young men on the other end of the phone as they have caller ID and really enjoy playing games with the customers.
WOW does this tell you anything……….I can not express it enough……Please read my complaint and DO NOT do business with this company!!!!
Very Very Very poor service and there is no follow up what’s so ever. There is no good point of contact for the manager and everytime we call there is new person on the phone and have to explain the same problem multiple times. there system does not provide any information.
Worst company ever seen in my life. I reliaze it’s a Waste of money after signing up with them.
Worst experience I could imagine – AVOID!!!!
This is the worst home warranty company that I have had to deal with. Their service call is a JOKE. Reponse time to a service call ==Ha 5 (five) days to over a week to complete.
DO NOT use this company
This company does not answer their phones. We reported a claim over a a month ago because our furnace is not working, and a month later with a freezing house and sick child, we are still waiting for resolution. They won’t even call us. It usually takes us about 4 days to reach them by phone. They just do not answer their phones, regardless of which option you select. We have just reported them to the BBB of Delaware (which is where they are registered). I don’t know what to do, but if you are considering buying a warranty coverage from them, DO NOT BOTHER.
I am very disappointed with this company. Their customer service is appalling.
it sounds like there is only one person running the show because it’s the same person who answers the phone. At the time of posting they have turned their phones off. I am worried they have gone out of business.
This company is a fraud. Do not, I repeat do not buy this “coverage” it will get you NOTHING. Read all bad reviews, they are ALL TRUE!!! My experience mirrored theirs. The person running this company should be in Prison, as they are STEALING from the people buying the coverage.
They went as far as sending me a fraudulant authorization number. Luckily for me I already suspected this and the company that Empire sent me to confirmed they do not even accept warrenties of this nature!!!
Run and don’t look back. I hope these other people paid by Credit card, I am filing a police report and fraud complaint with my Credit Card company.
These people are THIEFS!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was not allowed to tell the truth about this company as my comments were not submitted. Please read above on all but the good ratings. I called for service, I was given a false authorization number and company to call to take care of my furnace. The company refuses to answer the phone, this company took my money and did not provide any service. This company is a scam, if you give them money, expect nothing, because as you can read that is what you will get.
This company almost out of business. This week , the free toll number (1-877-236-9660) in this company has not available. Any problems , they are not going to take care.
This summer I had a good experience with them in that my air went out on the weekend and i had someone come out on the same day within 5hrs and it was fixed, I did have to pay extra fees but I was satisfied. Now is a different story, I too have attempted to call and email to submit a claim and have yet to hear from the company. I am looking to start a class action suit against them or join one that may already be out there. If anyone knows of one please post. Thanks!
I did actually have a good experience with this company back in the summer but now is a different story. I too have attempted to submit a claim via phone and email and have yet to hear back from anyone. I am documenting each attempt to contact them and I am looking into filing a class action suit against them or to join one that is already open. So if anyone has any info on one please post it. Thanks
I wish I would have read reviews on this company before purchasing – I wouldn’t have purchased. My heater has been broken for 2 weeks. Their claim of having a “representative” available 24/7 is false. You call their company and more likely than not you’ll get a recording saying all their representatives are currently busy. You do not get the option of holding for the next representative, they just tell you to email them. They are now trying to deny my claim since I do not have “proper maintenance records” for my heating unit, even though this shouldn’t be an issue since the part that broke was designed for wear out, it did not break due to a maintenance issue. The HVAC company they contracted even told them that my unit was in good condition. I requested my prorated money back, but doubt I will ever see it again.
don’t use them it’s a rip-off!!!
scammers telephones dont work online service there is none if you have poor service report to del. attorney general!
On April 15th, 2010 I purchased a comprehensive home warranty from Empire Home Warranty for $408 with a deductible amount of $49 per claim visit. This was to cover all of our major appliances (clothes dryer, clothes washer, dish washer, HVAC, oven, range, refrigerator, septic system, water heater).
In late June 2010 our AC stopped working, so I called the claims department. Amazingly they were able to get a proper technician onsite within only a couple days. I paid my $49 deductible and the 3rd party technician fixed the problem. All seemed OK.
A few months later in August our range/oven and refrigerator stopped working. So I emailed the claims department and waited one week for a response. I then called the claims department and asked if they had received my requests. They stated that their “system was offline”.
A claim was created and several days later an appointment was setup with Trustworthy Appliance Service. Several days after that one of their technicians came to my house and inspected range/oven and refrigerator. The technician stated that it would be a couple days to get the information to the warranty company. I waited one week and then called the claims department regarding the status of my claim. They stated that no one from Trustworthy Appliance Service had provided them with the necessary information to proceed. I turned around and called the service company only to find that they had provided the necessary information to Empire Home Warranty two days after being at my home.
Another call to Empire Home Warranty with this new information got me a new answer. Now they stated they had something from Trustworthy Appliance Service, but their system was down and they could not access the information. The individual at Empire Home Warranty promised that they would be in touch in a couple days with an answer as to the direction to resolve the claim.
So another week passed, and no one from Empire Home Warranty ever called. When I called them back, the individual I spoke with said it would be a few more days. The issue was under review and they’d have an answer early next week.
This went on for several weeks. I then switched to email communications with Empire Home Warranty as I was getting absolutely no where with the phone calls. After numerous emails between myself and Empire Home Warranty, I finally got a “settlement offer” because they decided that it wasn’t worth fixing our appliances.
So the offer was $100 for the range/oven and $200 for the refrigerator. I told Empire Home Warranty that I could not find any range/oven for $100, and they then offered $200 as the settlement amount. I asked Empire Home Warranty where I was suppose to be able to purchase a new range/oven and refrigerator for $200 each. They stated that was the amount for a “builder grade” unit, but would not provide any specifics on where these could be found. Obviously you cannot get a new range/oven or refrigerator for $200 anywhere except of the back of a truck in a dark alley.
So now a new game was to ensue. Empire Home Warranty emailed me two settlement claim documents that I was to sign and return. I emailed and faxed the signed copies of these documents on the same day they were received. I then waited the required 21 days, but no checks. When I emailed them again, they stated that they had never received my documents. I then got very angry with them and demanded them to send my settlement claim immediately.
We’re now five (5) months into this ridiculous ordeal and I still have not received my settlement checks. I’ve emailed the claims department of Empire Home Warranty too many times to count, but keep getting generic responses or blatant lies. I’d finally had enough and have submitted complaints to the BBB, FTC, Online Business Bureau and the Indiana Attorney General’s office.
To date, Empire Home Warranty has lied to me on the phone and in email dozens of times. They’ve promised that my settlement checks have been sent multiple times and even provided me with check number when probed.
While I won’t get my money any time soon, in the end Empire Home Warranty will be held accountable for their deceit by the agencies that I’ve filed complaints with. I’m not going to let this go… eventually I will get what I’m owed by these jokers.
If you’ve had a similar issue with Empire Home Warranty or any other home warranty company, please make sure to file complaints with the BBB, FTC and your state’s Attorney General office. Companies need to be held accountable for their blatant deceit.
I signed up with Empire Home Warranty on June 29,2010. They were one of few companies that covered Septic Tanks. They debited from my American Express Card every month in the amount of 40.00. They sent me a Contract with a list of all items covered as well as a 24/7 888-xxx-xxxx number. As luck would have it, my Dryer quit working in December because of a faulty element. So I called the “24/7″ hot line only to find out it was “unavailable and to call back later. I then went to their web-site and called their Main Number…no such luck. Got a message about their hours, but it doesn’t matter when you call, usually you won’t get anything but a message. You can only communicate by E-mail, and good luck if they respond. For 3 days I was not successful. I was just about to give up and buy a new Dryer. But they sent me an e-mail stating that someone would contact me in 24-48 hours. So I waited. That never happened. Then I finally got someone to answer the phone. He said that they couldn’t send anyone until I finalized my “enrollment”. How strange that this was never an issue when they were taking 40.00 from my Credit Card. I asked him to e-mail me the papers and I would fax them to him with my initials. The Fax number he gave me was not valid. Then Empire sent another e-mail telling me that they have not received my enrollment papers. How can i sent them when their Fax machine doesn’t work??? Forget talking to these people when they don’t answer their phones. Luckily, I had been using my American Express Card for them to draft my monthly premiums from. American Express Credited my last 5 payments back to me and I have terminated my business with Empire. Stay away from this company!!! They are a Fraud!!! Besides, read the contract and IF you choose to use them anyway, pay by Credit card so you will be able to have their charges disputed. Next time I will ask more specific questions like hours, alternate phone numbers, name of Owners, managers, etc. I am sick of being ripped off!!! If you cannot talk to anyone by phone…Get Away from them!!!
Purchased Warranty on 7/27/10
Had plumbing leak on 9/27/10. Called Empire. They dispatched
a plumber the following day. Plumber came, inspected the leak and said he was waiting for a response from Empire. I live 25 miles out of town so he fixed the leak and stated he would talk to Empire when they called and to call him if they called me first. I never heard anything more until yesterday
12/14/10 when I received a bill from the Plumbing Works for the repair stating Empire refused to pay and I now owe them for the repair. Attempted to contact Empire Home warranty but the phone was disconnected. Merry Christmas to me!
Empire does not exist, it is a fraudulent company! They have been scamming people for a long time. Do not even bothering to contact this company. If you have been ripped-off by them, you might want to know their actual address is in Harrington, Delaware.
This company is a real scam!! I have been paying for months and for what!! My sewage ejector pump went out. I called and of course noone ever picks up! So I had to pay 750 bucks to have a new one installed. Well i have argued for 3 months and they supposedly have sent me a 400 check!!! Well guess what I still have not received the check!! I am cancelling this rip off from charging my credt card!! please if anyone wants to start a class action suit count me in!!
This comapny is a SCAM do not buy from them. They never would cover anything they said they would and when i asked for my money back they promised me a refund. Well its been 4 months and no money has come back to me. They keep saying the check is in the mail, WHAT MAIL??? They do not answer their phone and they do not respond via email. I am reporting them to every agency I can think of and will be filing a small claims suit against them. DO NOT FALL FOR THEIR SCAM
I purchased this warranty in Oct. 2010. When I attempted to make a claim because my heater was not working in my rental house. I kept getting a phone message that their phone was temporally out of service (probably didn’t pay their bill) After multiple attempts I GAVE UP ON THE PHONE! I then e-mailed them stating that I thought I had been scammed. They did e-mail me back telling me to send back the contract signed and initialed. I did that last Thursday , but have only waited in silence. I gave up and got my own repairman.
I used my credit card, so I think I will file a complaint with them.
Do not waste your money or time with Empire Home Warranty. Their toll free number is disconnected–thought I was saving time doing everything electronically to enroll. They are theives–they take your money and have run with it. They definitely do not help the poor in America with their financial woes and repairs. The have a message on their main line that no one answers or calls you back. They refer you to emailing them, but you get an email back stating you must wait 24 hours for any help. Well, I’ve been waiting 7 days now with no response. I’m contacting the BBB in Delaware to report them, as well, where they are home based.
this outfit is a fraud
Empire Home Waranty is a fraud. They take your money and that is the last you will hear from them. Alan Curtis
T
I called my claim in on 11/15/2010 and its now 12/28 and still nothing has been fixed call Empire everyday number not available!!! call technician 1st time he said waiting on parts from there on technician never answers.i am going to have to take this to the next level i feel something is terribly wrong!!! Dont use them!!!!!!
Is this company even legitimate. Their toll free number isn’t even working. I made the mistake of not reviewing comments about this company. And trying to save some money I accepted a contract that seems to good to be true. I plan on filing a complain with the BBB and the state attorney general.
I contracted with Empire Home Warranty in mid summer. I had trouble with my washing machine and contacted Empire. They then contacted American TV and Appliance to come and do the repair. The repairman told me that American did not accept payments from Empire and I would have to pay them myself. Why would Empire call someone that didn’t accept payment from them? After speaking with Empire, I agreed to pay the repair bill and Empire would reimburse me. Guess what..I never got the check. After this incident, I had trouble with my furnace. I contacted Empire, as before, and they contacted a local furnace service provider. The individual came out and gave me an estimate. Empire refused the claim, stating that it was due to improper maintenance although I had a letter from the technician saying otherwise. After this experience, I contacted Empire and asked for a full refund. After much reluctance, they agreed. I received a check in a handwritten envelope with no return address nearly a month after I requested the refund. Guess what…the check bounced! Now no one answers the phone and they don’t respond to messages. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE CROOKS!
I have two homes and purchased two warranty plans and, service started in April. Very poor service their ph doesn’t work. I think we all should report to BBB. BUYER BEWARE!!! Just like many of the other customers of Empire Home Warranty.Save yourself the heachaches and STAY AWAY FROM EMPIRE HOME WARRANTY. I am very dispointed.
OMG PLEASE DON’T WAIST YOUR MONEY. I HATE THIS COMPANY NO ONE IS THERE TO HELP YOU WHEN YOU NEED THEM. VERY BAD VERY BAD. OMG THE BIG MISTAKE I MADE.
I placed a service for my heating since December 14 2010 through email as they said in their recording, I emailed them twice and still have not heard a word from them. In June 2010 when my AC went out. They asked me to fax them the maintenance record of my AC in the past 6 months and I did. They still did not cover the bad AC compressor. This is the worst home warranty insurance I’ve ever had. I recommend American Home Shield
Signed up in May 2010, did get service on AC in June and Refrigerator in August. Service for Refrigerator took multiple phone calls. Same problem with Freezer, filed on line, no one answers phone calls, no response. Had to get it fixed, cost me the same as the warranty. 8 days later i get an e mail asking what type of freezer, again, responded, no response. DO NOT BUY someone needs to SUE them
The actual “overall rating” should be zero. I’ve had this policy since 7/2010 – no claim until January 15th, filed then & the 18th, 19th, 20th, & 21st at which time they responded by stating I needed to re-fax the policy holder agreement. I refaxed the original one sent on 7/12/10. Then on Monday the 24th the sent me a claim number and the name and phone number of a contractor who was assigned to do the repair. Called the company on Tuesday as directed by Empire to set up an appointment – the company that answered the phone had a different name than listed on my claim – and they stated they had no contract with Empire. No listing in our city or state for the company name they listed on the claim assignment. Tried contacting Empire – 2 times on Tuesday – 4 times today (no repsonse) phone number supplied by Empire on my claim assignment states to choose option 2 to speak with a representative – there is no option 2 only a recording that hangs up when finished. Some Chad guy – listed in one of the e-mail addresses, must know this company is conducting business fraudently – who knows maybe he is the operator – - don’t know. I’m filing complaint at AZ – AG and DE – AG. This type of conduct needs to stop.
We had switched from another company and have four houses with them under warantee. I have had horrific experiences with them. The number is disconencted. Now they only have an email to contact. They do not get back to you. THere is no one to provide the services. The company is either bankrupt or in the process of bankruptcy. I am trying to get partial refund back to no avail.
Their contract is a fruad. they say 24 hours phone number while there is none. Their web site lists a toll free number that does not work.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.
Worst company ever. They have just dissapeared. I had an issue back in September, basic plumbing clog. First plumber came out and said he wanted more money than the deductible. Deductible was $45, he said he wanted $110. Empire sent me a second plumber (5 days later) – by that point a second problem had occurred because of the wait time. This plumber didn’t speak any english but fixed the problem. Now 3-4 months later I get a call from that plumber saying Empire never paid him and they can’t locate them and that she thinks they went out of business. I told her to file a complaint with the BBB as I did as well.
Before this – I had a an issue in early January and contacted them and have never received a response. That was initially how I found out they were gone. I went on here and saw reviews and my stomach dropped. Don’t do business with this company (they are not a real company). Everyone needs to file a complaint with the BBB and put these crooks away.
NEVER ever do business with this company! I was promised a full refund by BRAD HUGHES, the Regional Director, due to rude treatment after they failed to pay a claim that was covered. Taking them to smal claims court. THEY LIE. DO NOT BUY THEIR PRODUCT.
DO NOT BUY A POLICY FROM EMPIRE HOME WARRANTY!!!
Our Heating Unit went out 5 months after buying the policy.
I contact by email to the Claims Dept. and by phone, with NO response. After many many efforts to contact Empire Claims I received 1 response asking for our policy number which I had put on every email. I sent it, I NEVER heard from them again. We paid for the repair. I tried again when our clothes dryer went out, NO RESPONSE. The contact phone number on our policy
does not work. I have contact the Delaware Better Business Bureau 3 times and have now filed a complaint with them.
Not sure how these people sleep at night. I just renewed in Dec, didn’t have any claims last year. Find out the same thing everyone else is, you can’t contact them. Fortunately, Discover can reverse the charge. Still annoying. If anyone does contact them, please post a proper #. I don’t want these idiots trying to charge me every six months.
Total Scam!!!
After they could not repair my dryer they offered $200 and never paid. After I complained they are dropping my policy.
I purchased a warranty with this company in 07/2010. On 11/2010 my stove needed to be replaced, after many weeks of trying to get a hold of a “live” person, Jonathan finally answered the phone and told me to get my own repair man because they could not find a repair shop in my town, I did. the replacement was approved via phone and I received an email to send in my bill (this company did not accept payments from empire). well thats where the real headache began, to this date 2/27/11 I have not heard from nor have I received a response from anyone at this company despite many many attempts. I have a complaint with the BBB who gave up on them because no one would respond to the complaint. I file a complaint with the DE DA who referred me to the DA in IN because the address in DE is only a satellite address. Well the IN DA sent me a letter stating its DE that has to handle the complaint. I filed a complaint with the FTC. NOTHING has happened, can’t get help from anyone. I am very serious about a Class Action Law Suit, if anyone has started one please email me at [email protected]. I keep getting told to get my own attorney but where the heck are these people? Let’s get our money back people!!!!
I purchased a contract with Empire Home Warranty in August of 2010. A contract was immediately sent via email but I never signed nor returned it. Empire continued to debit my credit card for the monthly fee. I tried to call them on 2/21/2011 but receives a recording and phone cuts off. Tried to email them but web page is no longer in existence. I finally sent an email thru the claim email address and someone responded and told me that they no longer serviced my area. It is not clear if they every serviced my area. It appears that they are not living up to the prodcut that they sell.
When we submitted a claim they found numerous excuses to not comply and after finally offering a settlement of $200.00, they never sent the check and we have tried calling them but their phones have been disconnected.
This company stopped speaking to me once my appliance was deemed faulty and needed to be replaced.
If anyone is interested in filing a class action law suit please email me at [email protected] or look me up on facebook:Luz Rodriguez, Missouri.
My original complaint was NOT posted!!!!
Ok People you must call 1 800 382-5516 Indiana attorney General. Report Empire. Then you must call Federal Trade Commission 1 877-382-4357 report Empire. They said the company was in Delaware but it is not. It or they are in Indiana. I was told this and what to do by attorney general office in Delaware, alreadyy 77 complaints. Let’s report the abuse. With this economy no one should take our hard earned money. No one is getting a response on our claims and there is no longer a web site. PLEASE POST THIS. ASAP
Total SCAM! It’s unfortunate how so many were taken advantage of, including myself. But we need to make sure we file complaint with BBB & the IN Attorney General ASAP & make sure they are completely put out of business and that nobody else gets scammed.
I’m having the same issues as everyone else. I contacted them 2/4/11 and they replied 2/7/11 asking for a copy of my signed policy which i sent immediately. I didnt hear anything for a couple of weeks so i followed up, and was asked again for my policy number and contract. I’ve been emailing them every week since them and have not gotten a reponse. I WILL BE REPORTING THEM.
I purchased Empire Home warranty in February 2010. I made the monthly payments $39.57 each month until January 2011 when I called with a plumbing issue. The 800 phone number had been disconnected. I wanted 2 more days then emailed the customer service email address on the web site. I got a quick response. “To Whom this may concern, Due to Lack of Contractors in your area we have stopped servicing the area in the past week, We will not be able to provide the service we once honored. No further charges will be drafted from your credit card. Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience.” The next day they charged my credit card again. And again in February. I was able to get January and February reversed but I am now having to prove I no longer want the service with my bank. And that is difficult to do when Empire will not respond to my calls or emails.
So beware I do not think this is a reputable company. They did not give me the chance to report the problem they simply shut me down.
Has anyone received any response from either the IN or DE district attorney/attorney general? I filed a complaint with delaware, was told to file in IN. IN then sent me a letter stating the case has to be handled by DE?? What the heck??? I can’t even get the government to help me??
Has anyone started a class action law suit????
please respond to: [email protected]. FB: Luz Rodriguez, MO
I purchased a plan in Oct 2010 and so far each time I had a problem I could not reach them. I finally had to repair the items warrantied. I kept emailing them becuase I could not reach them by phone and they finally assigned a claim number for my smaller claim. Still no response, no check and now their phone number is disconnected. The 1st claim was my furnace. I had no heat and could not reach them. After 2 days I finally had it repaired becuase it was too cold. The 2nd repair was my refrigerator. It was not keeping the food cold. Again I could not reach by phone so emailed them and they did not get back to me within 3 days so I finally had to have it it fixed. I don’t think they even exist now since the phone was disconnected. Hopefully everyone else had better luck.
Same story for me. I cannot reach the company as the phone number is disconnected and their web site is down. Do Not Give This Company Money.
I attempted to file a claim for my a/c not cooling and they emailed me and said they no longer service my area and would send me a partial refund. I asked why I had not received this in writing prior to me filing a claim. They refuse to answer that question but said the only way to get my partial refund was to dispute the charge on my credit card. The card company only go back 90 days. I informed them of this and have not heard from them. This company is a Rip Off.
I want my money back, I paid in full and got no service. Every time I called they didn’t cover what I was calling for. Now the number is not in service.
Please help Thanks,
unhappy Customer
I purchased my warranty in June 2010. I just discovered the company can’t be reached by phone or website, so I contacted Discover Card to report the issue and they credited my account right away. If you charged it to your credit card, make sure you report it also. Hope this helps!
I had 2 homes covered under this warranty company and received horrible service for both homes. When I finally could get response from a vendor, I ran into several vendors that no longer would service because they weren’t being paid properly by Empire Warranty Co. Lastly, Empire stopped answering the phone and would only communicate via email. The last communication with them was that they had stopped servicing my area and that I was entitled to a prorated refund. To add insult to injury, they would not refund my money, they instructed me to dispute it with my credit card company. Needless to say, I am pursuing small claim hearing for my refund. While it’s only a little bit of money, its the principle. Stay away from this company.
the worst, it’s a scam, don’t waste your money
I paid the year in full and called them 2 weeks ago, phone was disconnected. I emailed the claims department about my A/C and they said they stopped covering my area in march. They also said they would allow me to dispute not even half of my premium. they never informed me of them not “covering my are” anymore and would never have bothered had I not contacted them with a claim request. I am disputing the entire charge with my CC company, and sending a letter to the attorney general’s office in DE. These scam artists MUST be stopped. Everyone should contact the Attorney Genereal’s office and inform them of the fraudulent business they have in their state.
This company is some type of scam. The minute I needed to use its service the phone number was disconnected and the only way to contact was through email. I was emailed that they were no longer doing contracts in the Enid OK area and I would be refunded $87. Stay away once again it is a scam.
As a company doing work for Empire Home Warranty, I would not recommend them. We did a job for them in November 2010 and still trying to get paid.
HAD A WATER HEATER REPLACED 11-9-10 TO THIS DAY THEY HAVE NOT PAID THE LOCAL PLUMBING CO. THAT DID THE INSTALLATION AND NOW THEY ARE GOING AFTER ME FOR THE MONEY AT THIS POINT AM SEEKING LEGAL HELP TO GET THIS COMPANY PAID. TRIED RECHING THE AND NEVER GOT A RESPONSE FROM THEM. IT’S SAD BECAUSE I HAD MY PAYMENT DRAFTED FROM MY ACCOUNT EVERY MONTH AND NOW IT LOOKS LIKE I WILL BE GETTING STUCK WITH THIS BILL TOO.
This company is the worst. You pay your premium and that is the time you will hear from them.Do not use empire home warranty. Alan Curtis, Valencia, California
This company is completely crooked. I got my money back from Mastercard a long time ago. They should have been shut down by the FTC by now. I can’t believe people are still being scammed by these criminals.
Stay away, this is not a good company. Horrible experience. I signed up, paid my premium, then had a two problems. The first one was my garabage disposal, it went out. It took a week for them to respond to me first of all. Then the contractor that they refered me to refused to come out becuase Empire had not paid them for warranty work done 9 months before. I tried contacting Empire again with no responce except another contract referal, except it was the same contractor they previously asigned to me. Plus, you can’t call Empire, you have to email them, this should of been my warning sign. Just trust me, stay away!
