| Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights

DO NOT BUY A POLICY FROM EMPIRE HOME WARRANTY!!!
Our Heating Unit went out 5 months after buying the policy.
I contact by email to the Claims Dept. and by phone, with NO response. After many many efforts to contact Empire Claims I received 1 response asking for our policy number which I had put on every email. I sent it, I NEVER heard from them again. We paid for the repair. I tried again when our clothes dryer went out, NO RESPONSE. The contact phone number on our policy
does not work. I have contact the Delaware Better Business Bureau 3 times and have now filed a complaint with them.
NEVER ever do business with this company! I was promised a full refund by BRAD HUGHES, the Regional Director, due to rude treatment after they failed to pay a claim that was covered. Taking them to smal claims court. THEY LIE. DO NOT BUY THEIR PRODUCT.
Worst company ever. They have just dissapeared. I had an issue back in September, basic plumbing clog. First plumber came out and said he wanted more money than the deductible. Deductible was $45, he said he wanted $110. Empire sent me a second plumber (5 days later) – by that point a second problem had occurred because of the wait time. This plumber didn’t speak any english but fixed the problem. Now 3-4 months later I get a call from that plumber saying Empire never paid him and they can’t locate them and that she thinks they went out of business. I told her to file a complaint with the BBB as I did as well.
Before this – I had a an issue in early January and contacted them and have never received a response. That was initially how I found out they were gone. I went on here and saw reviews and my stomach dropped. Don’t do business with this company (they are not a real company). Everyone needs to file a complaint with the BBB and put these crooks away.
We had switched from another company and have four houses with them under warantee. I have had horrific experiences with them. The number is disconencted. Now they only have an email to contact. They do not get back to you. THere is no one to provide the services. The company is either bankrupt or in the process of bankruptcy. I am trying to get partial refund back to no avail.
Their contract is a fruad. they say 24 hours phone number while there is none. Their web site lists a toll free number that does not work.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.
The actual “overall rating” should be zero. I’ve had this policy since 7/2010 – no claim until January 15th, filed then & the 18th, 19th, 20th, & 21st at which time they responded by stating I needed to re-fax the policy holder agreement. I refaxed the original one sent on 7/12/10. Then on Monday the 24th the sent me a claim number and the name and phone number of a contractor who was assigned to do the repair. Called the company on Tuesday as directed by Empire to set up an appointment – the company that answered the phone had a different name than listed on my claim – and they stated they had no contract with Empire. No listing in our city or state for the company name they listed on the claim assignment. Tried contacting Empire – 2 times on Tuesday – 4 times today (no repsonse) phone number supplied by Empire on my claim assignment states to choose option 2 to speak with a representative – there is no option 2 only a recording that hangs up when finished. Some Chad guy – listed in one of the e-mail addresses, must know this company is conducting business fraudently – who knows maybe he is the operator – - don’t know. I’m filing complaint at AZ – AG and DE – AG. This type of conduct needs to stop.
Signed up in May 2010, did get service on AC in June and Refrigerator in August. Service for Refrigerator took multiple phone calls. Same problem with Freezer, filed on line, no one answers phone calls, no response. Had to get it fixed, cost me the same as the warranty. 8 days later i get an e mail asking what type of freezer, again, responded, no response. DO NOT BUY someone needs to SUE them
I placed a service for my heating since December 14 2010 through email as they said in their recording, I emailed them twice and still have not heard a word from them. In June 2010 when my AC went out. They asked me to fax them the maintenance record of my AC in the past 6 months and I did. They still did not cover the bad AC compressor. This is the worst home warranty insurance I’ve ever had. I recommend American Home Shield
OMG PLEASE DON’T WAIST YOUR MONEY. I HATE THIS COMPANY NO ONE IS THERE TO HELP YOU WHEN YOU NEED THEM. VERY BAD VERY BAD. OMG THE BIG MISTAKE I MADE.
I have two homes and purchased two warranty plans and, service started in April. Very poor service their ph doesn’t work. I think we all should report to BBB. BUYER BEWARE!!! Just like many of the other customers of Empire Home Warranty.Save yourself the heachaches and STAY AWAY FROM EMPIRE HOME WARRANTY. I am very dispointed.
I contracted with Empire Home Warranty in mid summer. I had trouble with my washing machine and contacted Empire. They then contacted American TV and Appliance to come and do the repair. The repairman told me that American did not accept payments from Empire and I would have to pay them myself. Why would Empire call someone that didn’t accept payment from them? After speaking with Empire, I agreed to pay the repair bill and Empire would reimburse me. Guess what..I never got the check. After this incident, I had trouble with my furnace. I contacted Empire, as before, and they contacted a local furnace service provider. The individual came out and gave me an estimate. Empire refused the claim, stating that it was due to improper maintenance although I had a letter from the technician saying otherwise. After this experience, I contacted Empire and asked for a full refund. After much reluctance, they agreed. I received a check in a handwritten envelope with no return address nearly a month after I requested the refund. Guess what…the check bounced! Now no one answers the phone and they don’t respond to messages. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE CROOKS!
Is this company even legitimate. Their toll free number isn’t even working. I made the mistake of not reviewing comments about this company. And trying to save some money I accepted a contract that seems to good to be true. I plan on filing a complain with the BBB and the state attorney general.
I called my claim in on 11/15/2010 and its now 12/28 and still nothing has been fixed call Empire everyday number not available!!! call technician 1st time he said waiting on parts from there on technician never answers.i am going to have to take this to the next level i feel something is terribly wrong!!! Dont use them!!!!!!
this outfit is a fraud
Empire Home Waranty is a fraud. They take your money and that is the last you will hear from them. Alan Curtis

Do not waste your money or time with Empire Home Warranty. Their toll free number is disconnected–thought I was saving time doing everything electronically to enroll. They are theives–they take your money and have run with it. They definitely do not help the poor in America with their financial woes and repairs. The have a message on their main line that no one answers or calls you back. They refer you to emailing them, but you get an email back stating you must wait 24 hours for any help. Well, I’ve been waiting 7 days now with no response. I’m contacting the BBB in Delaware to report them, as well, where they are home based.
I purchased this warranty in Oct. 2010. When I attempted to make a claim because my heater was not working in my rental house. I kept getting a phone message that their phone was temporally out of service (probably didn’t pay their bill) After multiple attempts I GAVE UP ON THE PHONE! I then e-mailed them stating that I thought I had been scammed. They did e-mail me back telling me to send back the contract signed and initialed. I did that last Thursday , but have only waited in silence. I gave up and got my own repairman.
I used my credit card, so I think I will file a complaint with them.
This comapny is a SCAM do not buy from them. They never would cover anything they said they would and when i asked for my money back they promised me a refund. Well its been 4 months and no money has come back to me. They keep saying the check is in the mail, WHAT MAIL??? They do not answer their phone and they do not respond via email. I am reporting them to every agency I can think of and will be filing a small claims suit against them. DO NOT FALL FOR THEIR SCAM
This company is a real scam!! I have been paying for months and for what!! My sewage ejector pump went out. I called and of course noone ever picks up! So I had to pay 750 bucks to have a new one installed. Well i have argued for 3 months and they supposedly have sent me a 400 check!!! Well guess what I still have not received the check!! I am cancelling this rip off from charging my credt card!! please if anyone wants to start a class action suit count me in!!
Empire does not exist, it is a fraudulent company! They have been scamming people for a long time. Do not even bothering to contact this company. If you have been ripped-off by them, you might want to know their actual address is in Harrington, Delaware.
Purchased Warranty on 7/27/10
Had plumbing leak on 9/27/10. Called Empire. They dispatched
a plumber the following day. Plumber came, inspected the leak and said he was waiting for a response from Empire. I live 25 miles out of town so he fixed the leak and stated he would talk to Empire when they called and to call him if they called me first. I never heard anything more until yesterday
12/14/10 when I received a bill from the Plumbing Works for the repair stating Empire refused to pay and I now owe them for the repair. Attempted to contact Empire Home warranty but the phone was disconnected. Merry Christmas to me!
I signed up with Empire Home Warranty on June 29,2010. They were one of few companies that covered Septic Tanks. They debited from my American Express Card every month in the amount of 40.00. They sent me a Contract with a list of all items covered as well as a 24/7 888-xxx-xxxx number. As luck would have it, my Dryer quit working in December because of a faulty element. So I called the “24/7″ hot line only to find out it was “unavailable and to call back later. I then went to their web-site and called their Main Number…no such luck. Got a message about their hours, but it doesn’t matter when you call, usually you won’t get anything but a message. You can only communicate by E-mail, and good luck if they respond. For 3 days I was not successful. I was just about to give up and buy a new Dryer. But they sent me an e-mail stating that someone would contact me in 24-48 hours. So I waited. That never happened. Then I finally got someone to answer the phone. He said that they couldn’t send anyone until I finalized my “enrollment”. How strange that this was never an issue when they were taking 40.00 from my Credit Card. I asked him to e-mail me the papers and I would fax them to him with my initials. The Fax number he gave me was not valid. Then Empire sent another e-mail telling me that they have not received my enrollment papers. How can i sent them when their Fax machine doesn’t work??? Forget talking to these people when they don’t answer their phones. Luckily, I had been using my American Express Card for them to draft my monthly premiums from. American Express Credited my last 5 payments back to me and I have terminated my business with Empire. Stay away from this company!!! They are a Fraud!!! Besides, read the contract and IF you choose to use them anyway, pay by Credit card so you will be able to have their charges disputed. Next time I will ask more specific questions like hours, alternate phone numbers, name of Owners, managers, etc. I am sick of being ripped off!!! If you cannot talk to anyone by phone…Get Away from them!!!
On April 15th, 2010 I purchased a comprehensive home warranty from Empire Home Warranty for $408 with a deductible amount of $49 per claim visit. This was to cover all of our major appliances (clothes dryer, clothes washer, dish washer, HVAC, oven, range, refrigerator, septic system, water heater).
In late June 2010 our AC stopped working, so I called the claims department. Amazingly they were able to get a proper technician onsite within only a couple days. I paid my $49 deductible and the 3rd party technician fixed the problem. All seemed OK.
A few months later in August our range/oven and refrigerator stopped working. So I emailed the claims department and waited one week for a response. I then called the claims department and asked if they had received my requests. They stated that their “system was offline”.
A claim was created and several days later an appointment was setup with Trustworthy Appliance Service. Several days after that one of their technicians came to my house and inspected range/oven and refrigerator. The technician stated that it would be a couple days to get the information to the warranty company. I waited one week and then called the claims department regarding the status of my claim. They stated that no one from Trustworthy Appliance Service had provided them with the necessary information to proceed. I turned around and called the service company only to find that they had provided the necessary information to Empire Home Warranty two days after being at my home.
Another call to Empire Home Warranty with this new information got me a new answer. Now they stated they had something from Trustworthy Appliance Service, but their system was down and they could not access the information. The individual at Empire Home Warranty promised that they would be in touch in a couple days with an answer as to the direction to resolve the claim.
So another week passed, and no one from Empire Home Warranty ever called. When I called them back, the individual I spoke with said it would be a few more days. The issue was under review and they’d have an answer early next week.
This went on for several weeks. I then switched to email communications with Empire Home Warranty as I was getting absolutely no where with the phone calls. After numerous emails between myself and Empire Home Warranty, I finally got a “settlement offer” because they decided that it wasn’t worth fixing our appliances.
So the offer was $100 for the range/oven and $200 for the refrigerator. I told Empire Home Warranty that I could not find any range/oven for $100, and they then offered $200 as the settlement amount. I asked Empire Home Warranty where I was suppose to be able to purchase a new range/oven and refrigerator for $200 each. They stated that was the amount for a “builder grade” unit, but would not provide any specifics on where these could be found. Obviously you cannot get a new range/oven or refrigerator for $200 anywhere except of the back of a truck in a dark alley.
So now a new game was to ensue. Empire Home Warranty emailed me two settlement claim documents that I was to sign and return. I emailed and faxed the signed copies of these documents on the same day they were received. I then waited the required 21 days, but no checks. When I emailed them again, they stated that they had never received my documents. I then got very angry with them and demanded them to send my settlement claim immediately.
We’re now five (5) months into this ridiculous ordeal and I still have not received my settlement checks. I’ve emailed the claims department of Empire Home Warranty too many times to count, but keep getting generic responses or blatant lies. I’d finally had enough and have submitted complaints to the BBB, FTC, Online Business Bureau and the Indiana Attorney General’s office.
To date, Empire Home Warranty has lied to me on the phone and in email dozens of times. They’ve promised that my settlement checks have been sent multiple times and even provided me with check number when probed.
While I won’t get my money any time soon, in the end Empire Home Warranty will be held accountable for their deceit by the agencies that I’ve filed complaints with. I’m not going to let this go… eventually I will get what I’m owed by these jokers.
If you’ve had a similar issue with Empire Home Warranty or any other home warranty company, please make sure to file complaints with the BBB, FTC and your state’s Attorney General office. Companies need to be held accountable for their blatant deceit.
scammers telephones dont work online service there is none if you have poor service report to del. attorney general!
don’t use them it’s a rip-off!!!
I wish I would have read reviews on this company before purchasing – I wouldn’t have purchased. My heater has been broken for 2 weeks. Their claim of having a “representative” available 24/7 is false. You call their company and more likely than not you’ll get a recording saying all their representatives are currently busy. You do not get the option of holding for the next representative, they just tell you to email them. They are now trying to deny my claim since I do not have “proper maintenance records” for my heating unit, even though this shouldn’t be an issue since the part that broke was designed for wear out, it did not break due to a maintenance issue. The HVAC company they contracted even told them that my unit was in good condition. I requested my prorated money back, but doubt I will ever see it again.
I did actually have a good experience with this company back in the summer but now is a different story. I too have attempted to submit a claim via phone and email and have yet to hear back from anyone. I am documenting each attempt to contact them and I am looking into filing a class action suit against them or to join one that is already open. So if anyone has any info on one please post it. Thanks
