| Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights

This service is a scam!!! Do Not BUY
As a Broker I often recommended this company, along with a couple others, to my clients. In the beginning – about 5 years ago – they appeared to be good. In the last 2 years they have become so bad that I no longer recommend this company to ANYONE!
Customer service is no service at all and not customer focused, actually rude. I have a “cash out” for a dishwasher I replaced following their confirmation it would be paid and after mailing, faxing and calling with the receipt (from January through April 2009) I have no check and no return calls.
I wish I could say anything positive about Globe Home. I can’t. I’m just lucky that we only had to use them once, and only for a broken washing machine. In late November 2008, my husband and I found that our washer’s transmission had blown. We called this warranty company, who had been recommended by our broker (Hah!). They waited two weeks to send someone out to look at it. He told us, “The transmission is dead and you’ll need a new machine.” Fine. We paid $80 for that. We were told we’d get $300 in reimbursement. So we went online to Sears with my husband’s emergency credit card, and ordered a washer on sale for $399, plus $65 delivery and installation. We thought, hey, we’d only be paying $164 for a new washer! The reimbursement check didn’t come. I called them. They said it would get to us at the end of February 2009. Okay, then. February came. No check. March came and went. No check. I called them again in April. The lady I spoke with sounded very annoyed and told me, “The check will be mailed out any day now” – and hung up on me. WHAT? So, right, we still don’t have that $300 and my husband has already paid his credit card balance. But that money would have been really nice, you know? I will not be renewing our yearly 5-star service (pardon me while I laugh at this). I’ll be going with a different company. This is ridiculous.
I had 4 star ($389)globe home warranty for a year. I contacted so many time for plumbling problem by phone, email. Even submitted my claim online But never heard back for anything. Finally I did call someone else to repair and paid by own.
Most irony is, they called me at expiry date to renew warranty and I explained what all happened before even though she said we will look into that and said i can renew over phone. I rejected the offer. Not going back to globe again. “worthless”"
We have been with Globe warranty for more than 4 yrs. We “inherited” them the previous owners of our home. In the recent past we have had 2 separate repairs done (October, 2008 and December, 2008). We have submitted and resubmitted claims and numerous calls later we are no where close to having any resolution. We were told our claims were approved in January 2009. It is now April 2009 and still no payment. We are being told repeatedly we need to speak to accounts (of course no one picks up in “account” or returns calls from the numerous messages we have left).
Too many negatives to write here. I have filed a complaint with the BBB of Florida regarding this matter. Basically my heater went out and it took a week to get their repairman out to the house (in December) and then he would not return any calls or come back to do the repairs. I was told I could get my own licensed repairman, which I did, and would be reimbursed for the coverage amount of $1500. I have now been fighting with Globe about getting this reimbursement since December 26, 2008. I have complied with all of their requests and they will no longer respond to me.
Chicago, IL. Help may be a phone call away. Warranty companies are (most times) regulated by the Department of Insurance in your state. In additon to filing a complaint with the BBB call/write your Department of Insurance. They are consumer advocates and have the authority to take Globe to task. They have regulations the companies must follow. Sometimes they exceed what the warranty says. The DOI also has Unfair Claims Practices that are not allowed.
My experience with Globe and Josh Gonzalez echos what all the previous postings have related. I am in the insurance business and have 25+ yrs claims experience. I thought I had delt with the worst possible companies out there, but IMHO Globe Home Warranty really takes the prize.
Document, document, document and call your Dept. of Insurance, especially those of you in Illinois. IL DOI has Globe Home Warranty on their radar.
Please don’t let them wear you down and give up. Otherwise they win. Make one more call to your state’s DOI. If they are not the regulating body, ask them who is. I wish you much success.
If I could give these guys a negative rating, I would. Any excuse to not cover your claim will be used; the policy is worthless
Globe Home Warranty claims that they will get back to you right away if you submit a claim request, but I found this not to be true both times I called. I had a hot water heater break down in the middle of winter (not considered an emergency by their standards), as well as a sump pump fail. Both times I had to get my own subcontractor in to fix the problem because I did not hear back from Globe. Although I was given a small amount of money back for the water heater, I was not given anything for the sump pump because I had my own plumber do the job (even though this was an emergency and they did not get back to me in time to avert having a flooded basement). I found their claims department not only to be unhelpful, but to be rude as well. I know they must get a lot of complaints from rude people, but I was courteous for the entire phone call. They can place you in a catch-22; if you call or email to leave a claim and they don’t get back to you in time, but you must have the item fixed, they will deny your claim. This makes it difficult if you have something break on a Friday or during the weekend.
OK my time to take revenge from these bastards. Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT buy this warranty. Warranty is for one year so the way this company makes money is by delaying your claim as long as they can stretch so they won’t have to pay you and your warranty time will be over meaning great return on investment for them. Our house is only 15 years old but we purchased the warranty any way and this is what happened to us. 1. Claim ONE: Our washer quit flushing water. I called in January 07. I called 16 times until March since tech never showed up. Each time “Josh” answered the call and reminded me that I’ve never called them before. Finally he sent me a Sears’s tech in April end who said Washer need to be replaced. One whole month after he left tech kept calling as Globe Home Warranty was delaying his payment. I was pissed. Now took me 8 times to call again and they gave me ok to buy a Washer we like and Globe will pay $150 bucks. Once done buying fax them the receipt and I will get my check in mail. I called countless times to check on my check and each time response was we never got your fax or accounting department is in “meeting”. I faxed the receipts 4 times, emailed twice, mailed twice with return signature confirmation. Calls from Sears Accounting never stopped and my check never arrived so I called MD DAs office. DAs office called “Josh” and Sears got paid and I got my stinking $150 check in ONE WEEK. 2. Claim TWO: One light in Kitchen quit working so I called again. Funny how each time I call I get “Josh”. To make the long story short again I had to get DAs office involved for “Josh” to send me a tech. Whenever I asked to be escalated to Manager Josh said I am the manager or all the managers are in meeting. DAs office told me don’t ever do business with this company. How pathetic. Now keep in mind each of these claims are valid claims and honored by warranty. But this is their scam to give you so much hard time that you will quit calling. I checked few blogs and I was shocked how bad this company is doing but unfortunately they are still in business.
This warranty came with the purchase of our home. We have been trying to obtain a reimbursement our water heater that went back in October. I have called constantly to follow up on the check and have received every excuse under the sun…the one person that works in accounting was on vacation for weeks with no one backing her up. When I called a few weeks ago they told me the check went out and they couldnt understand why I did not receive it?? They then had to stop payment on the check and “reissue” which would take another 2-5 weeks? This has been going on for way too long, I still do not have the reimbursement check after a ridiculous amount of phone calls and personal time. If you are in the market for a home warranty, do not use this company. On top of it all they are very rude and unprofessional.
this company is as bad as they say they owe us money also have customers they owe money to, when is someone going to step in and stop the scharade.. bob lake in the hills heating.
just a very bad home warranty co. to deal with
We have a update to a earlier post in January. The realtor got into Globe and we received two checks for the least expensive of three work orders. The BBB of Central Florida said they could not help us so we filed a lawsuit against Globe. Court date is 10 March in Montgomery County General Sessions Court. We listed the homeowner as a co-defendant. He is kinda caught in the middle but our waterheater is in his home.
I got the warranty with Globe after looking at their list of covered items and the fact that they were an BBB accredited company. We used another home warranty co the first year we owned our house, and they were a great safety net to have. Globe covered roofs as well as appliances, and that was what we were looking for. I didn’t probe deeply enough to see that their rating with the BBB is a D-! I can’t help but think I got involved with a real bad apple for my home warranty.
My dishwasher, a premium brand, broke down just before the new year. I called the claim in immediately, but after a week, I heard nothing from the appliance company. Eventually I called back a few times and they reassigned the job to another company. Two weeks after the dishwasher died, a tech came out to our house to have a look at the problem. The tech determined that the repairs would cost around $460.
I spoke with Josh at Globe and he said that they would either pay for the repair or provide recompense for a new dishwasher. I was sure to get the “Stellar” warranty package to ensure we could still keep the premium appliances that our house already has. They were going to pay $385 for the balance of the repair or $320 for a new dishwasher which they said is a premium replacement cost for ours given the features it had.
I did some research online and our Kenmore Elite brand cost at least $800 to replace. I called back and was told that if I felt I deserved more recompense than what they offered I should send a letter to their review board via fax. I did this and had to wait another week and a half of calling persistently to find out if the review board had approved the increase of amount (Josh said in another phone call that once the board made it’s decision someone would definitely call me).
Finally yesterday I get through and Josh and he says they are chasing up the vendor to get the parts for the dishwasher. I was surprised because first of all, no one told me the decision was made and then I did not tell them what I wanted to do. I asked if they would be willing to pay out the repair amount in cash and he said they would. I said I would talk to my wife first and get back to him.
I’ve tried twice to get through so far, once I get that there is no one at that extension, and the second time I get a fairly unfriendly lady who puts me on hold when I’m about to give her my warranty number and then tells me once I explain what I wanted to do, she puts me through to Josh’s voicemail, a black hole from whence there is usually no response.
Based on reading all the comments here, I dread on the wait for the claim reimbursement. I was told it would take 8 weeks to see the money, which is a right pain in the backside already. I just hope it is only that long.
Their customer service is pretty abysmal, they are fairly terse and unsympathetic, they’re lousy communicators, and only one person in the office seems to have the authority to make decisions. I would not recommend them to anyone. At this point, I might just have to make it through this year and use it as a lesson to research these things better.
Left 10 messages and not one response. I contacted the BBB and we finally got reimbursed for our AC 7 months later! Stay away from this company! They are awful!
Globe warranties are a joke. I purchased a beach condo in Sept 07, had it inspected and bought a 1 yr warranty from Globe. In May 08 when the hot season began the A/C unit failed.
I called Globe for service and they had me contact a local company since they had no one in the area. The accepted their diagnosis that the unit was repairable but parts were unavailable on the unit. Globe authorized the unit to be replaced at a cost of $4500.
After much runaround and frustration the company offered me $500 to settle the claim. I wrote to the company president (Fred Peyton) and was told after a month or so that they would reimburse $1500 which I accepted.
I finally received a check in Oct 08 (5 months after the failure) but it was for only $500. I have been calling constantly since then to get the other $1000 but only get a litany of excuses. It’s now Jan 09 but I’ve still not received the $1000 and continue to get a litany of excuses.
Stay away from this company. There may be some good home warranty companies out there but this is NOT one of them.
Horrible. Wife called because our dishwasher died and unfortunately spoke with Kay, who was outright arrogant and demeaning and refused at first to even take the claim. She then said they would call us back and of course never did. After repeated attempts still nothing.
These people need to get taken to court in a class-action suit and I intend to look into it.
We are a plumbing contractor and work for several home and commercial warranty companies. Our first job with Globe, after jumping through their qualification hoops was to replace a water heater, this is why I have a 5 for service timeliness and repair. We went right out and replaced the unit, pulled a permit and the realtor payed the deductable, $75.00. Once we cut the cold water pipe we discovered the shut off valve wasn’t holding and would need replacement. Globe said that was another work order with another deductable so the realtor had to come back with another $75.00. That was in September 2008. It is now January 2009 and have not received a dime. When Kay tried to send us out on another work order we told her we were having problems getting our money. She said that she just mailed out a check for $46.00 to us. This small amount was for a claim that they would not pay because they said they could get someone to replace a garbage disposal for $100.00. We never saw the $46.00. We have given them until the 20th of January to pay us before we file against them and unfortunetly the homeowner of the waterheater. If we win we can put a cumberance against the property since it is too late for a lein. What this company is doing is criminal. They are taking away money from homeowners and contractors.
Two weeks ago, my husband woke up at 5:00 am to get ready to leave for a 2 week long business trip. When he tried to take a shower, he noticed that there wasn’t any hot water and went down to the basement to look at the hot water heater. The pilot light was out and he couldn’t get it to light. He had to leave so he told me to call out a plumber when I woke up.
When I woke up, I called the gas company first to make sure it wasn’t something on their end and they told me to call a plumber, which I did. The plumber came out, replaced a part (which turned out to be the wrong part, a whole different story) and charged me $276.00.
My husband tried calling Globe today to attempt to get reimbursement on this charge, being that he was out of the state for two weeks and I had no idea I needed to call this company first and then have them send out someone. My husband spoke with Josh, who as you can see from the numerous complaints above, was a rude jackass. When my husband explained the situation, Josh basically told my husband he was SOL and when my husband requested to speak with Josh’s supervisor, Josh told my husband that he is the boss and that there is no one else to talk to.
After reading all of the complaints on this site, I don’t think it would’ve mattered at all if we had called this company first to file a claim. It seems that they are worthless pieces of crap and won’t honor the warranty anyhow. Here’s hoping we don’t have any other issues with our house because I can’t see Globe Warranty actually fixing anything.
Globe Home Warranty, has a very poor rating.
I talked to them today about a problem and they acted as if I was wasting their time, and talk about arrogant….. I asked the women answering the phone where on the warranty it talked about my problem not being covered, I told you no it is not covered, now you want me to show you were it is in the warranty…… Then the women said just a minute….Another person got on the phone claiming to be her supervisor. Once again this man (I will not call him a gentleman), acted as though I was wasting his time. I asked to talk to his boss, and he said I am the supervisor and boss here so you’ll have to talk to me.
Also, I asked them about reimbursement for a claim I sent to them over 2 months ago. The women asked for how much it was for. I told her it was for $60. She snickered and then said, “We have been very busy and will try to get it to you before the end of the year……
At the top of this web page they say there is Premium: $349 Deductible: $50 Effective: 30 days after payment is received Why does my warranty say it has a $75.00 Service Fee?
We did work for globe in 2006-2007 and have yet to be paid . They owe our company alot of money . I have faxed, mailed and called about the invoice’s , nobody calls me back . Today i was able to get ahold of this lady that would not give me her name , she kept on telling me to get over it , i told her i had a stack of invoices in front of me , she was like what , what , what is a stack , are you saying stack, i don’t get it, i was like oh my god i have a large pile of invoices that you owe me for she was like so rude, i was like i can not believe you don’t understand you owe me this money and have to pay me , i told her i was calling the courts.A little bit later someone named kay called my office , i had stepped out , she told my office co-worker that i called them and giving them a hard time and she wants to know why ……she said she will call me back in the am , well see and i will post part 2 to this , to all the other contractors out there RUN,RUN ….2 years and still no money !!!!
Submitted a claim in May and waiting for reimbursement. Lucky enough to get some one phone after trying several times. They never return phones calls. For last 3 months, we trying to get this claim processed. Service is too bad.
I called to file a claim & NEVER heard back. I finally paid to fix my roof myself & called the next week. I got the runaround & ultimately never heard back from a claims rep. Today my toilet starts bubbling & gushing water everywhere so I call their “24/7″ claims line & get a recording that they’re closed for the weekend & we can leave a voicemail. Globe is god awful!!!
