Headquartered in California, Hisco Home Warranty (HHW) has been providing warranty services for more than 35 years. Hisco was also the first company to be licensed to offer home protection plans by the California Department of Insurance. The company also claims to be one of the founding members of the Home Warranty Association of California.

The company claims that they still remain to be one of the pioneers in the home warranty industry. The company places emphasis on simple solutions and attentive services and maintain some of the highest coverage limitations of any warranty provider.
 

With over 35 years of industry experience, Hisco claims that they provide one of the best warranty plans in the state of California. The company does not charge a service call fee unless a repair is actually performed. They have a round the clock customer service facility equipped with friendly and skilled staff.

Hisco Home Warranty provides basic online services to their customers via their website. Plan purchases and placing service requests can be done through the site as well as obtaining the report for home inspections. All details about their plans, sample contracts of the home warranty agreement etc can be found on the website.

Hisco offers a direct warranty as well as a CRES home warranty plan. The CRES home warranty plan is for sellers who are members of the CRES E & O (error and omissions) Insurance.

This company is such a scam. I payed to have my spa covered under warranty and now the pump is not working . They don't want to cover it because one of its functions is to run the jets which is not covered. Absolutely ridiculous. The agent told me and I quote "this isn't to pay for every thing that goes wrong in your home". HISCO is terrible.

If I could give them zero stars, I would. We own numerous houses and I will NEVER do business with HISCO again. They have refused to cover just about every claim I have had with my new house. They try to find every reason under the sun to NOT cover a claim, instead of trying to work with the homeowner. We purchased extended coverage for our pool equipment, only to be told that the damage was done from abnormal wear and tear, and thus not covered. This was not damage that was caused by us, this was done prior to our purchase of the home. I thought a home warranty was supposed to protect the new homeowner from issues that arose for just this reason! Rick Hernandez, the manager who called me, said that they would send me a copy of my coverage so that I would "understand" what was covered! AVOID!! Worst experience ever! LOTS of OUT OF POCKET expenses!! You will have to spend hourS to reach a representative, which will put you on hold once again to transfer your call to someone else who will also not be able to help you. Finally, once you do reach someone who claims that he can help you and process your order. You will be waiting for at least a week for them to even start moving. I've been without an A/C for over a week (I explained that it is a top floor, little child in the house, and a heatwave of over 100F now days.) and they claimed to have expedited the process (I wonder what is NOT expedited). I have their most expensive coverage, and my out of pocket is $2,100 for a unit that cost $4k. So much for insurance... AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! view less

this company is a scam - we had a 25 year old water heater fail and they fixed it temporarily instead of replacing it. Eventually we purchased a new one on our own. To make matters worse, then issued a false invoice for the renewal without any agreement or acceptance for renewal. With credit agencies as critical as they are today about unpaid invoices, this company deserves to be sued for issuing false invoices. view less

Our real estate agent bought one year home warranty for us. Soon after we purchased out first home, and moved in, water heater broke, which was very old but working condition based on inspection. It was cold winter so we needed to fix it right away. What they offered was nothing - they should've replaced 25 year old water heater, but they could offer only minor repairing cost which could take weeks during holiday seasons. In the end, they offer only few dollars for our new water heater. I certainly won't renew this nonsense policy. view less

Do not use this company if at all possible. You pay the money for the warranty, and they do anything necessary to make sure that any claims that you have are conveniently not covered. BEWARE!

Stay away from HISCO HW -I strongly recommend you to save your money and don't give it to these guys. They are rude, slow and will not give you any service at all. they only will show up and blame something else, collect their money and leave!
I have twice an incident and both times they didn't do anything and I had to finally pay my own contractors to come and fix the issue.

Save your money. They are not going to fix anything. I reported a problem with my oven on 1/14/13. They provided me with their contractor phone. I made an appointment with appliances technician the nex day. He arrived, but then said he needed to order a part that didn't work. 2 days past nobody called me and I called the appliance firm, they advised me that my insurance approved the broken part to be ordered and they were waiting it to be arrived in a couple days. Several days past I called them again, they said to wait until the part will arrive possibly one more week. As of today 1/29/13 nobody called me and I called them again.
Today they informed me that they completed their job, then they said that Hisco closed my case on 1/16/13. They had no idea why. I asked why did they misinformed me about ordering the part. They said it is not ther responsibility to inform me or anybody and this is my insurance' job. I called Hisco, they said they closed the case due to fact that broken part was damaged and THEY DO NOT COVER ANYTHING THAT IS DAMAGED. They failed to call me back 2 weeks ago and notify that they close the case despite the fact that I left my phone number with them and email adress. I asked them to provide the legal documents such as detailed report that they receive from appliance firm. They told me that they don't have and I should ask the appliance people to provide me with. Your never able to get through to talk to anyone. When you finally do, they want you to leave a message, which is never returned. They have such a small repair network of companies, they are overloaded with work and cannot get to you soon, even for emergencies. Avoid CRES/HISCO. It dropped our policy without any notification whatsoever. They indicated there were "excessive" claims when in fact there were three all year. It took forever to schedule these service calls and frequently their contractors either didn't show up for the scheduled call or didn't know how to complete the repairs, especially in connection with brand new energy-saving spa equipment. Our central air conditioning went out during a heat wave and they couldn't provide emergency service. They allowed me a minimum reimbursement on a call I ultimately had to schedule with an outside contractor during 115 degree heat. They are better insurers around. view less

Purchased a home and had a professional home inspection prior to inspection. Nothing was found defective. Two weeks after purchase, the water heater leaked very bad and ruined the kitchen floor also. I called my contractor and had it fixed as well as a gas leak in the main line. The cost was nearly $5,000.00. I called CRES home warranty and they said sorry, but they only pay their own hand picked contractors. What a joke! So if anyone out there has one of these useless warranties, just throw it in the trash can as it isn't worth the paper it's wrote on. I've reported them to the state attorney generals office and state insurance commissioner. view less

Don't buy this company. I had a very bad experience and they decline to repair my heater. Then they promise to give me back the $55 deductible and they never did. Also I have to call multiple times, email to deal with the customer support and still they never send me the letter. Now I am trying to cancel the warranty to get a refund and they don't even reply and respond. I wonder if I need to go to the small claim court to get it. How terrible it is! view less

I had to use this company twice after closing on my house.
1. To repair the air conditioner. It was of course the summer, in the desert. It took 6 weeks to get it repaired, because they kept trying to take the cheapest route, and eventually had to replace the motor in the unit. Service people did come out 3 times, the first 2 times promptly because they were just going to put a "booster" on the system, which resulted in the motor chucking metal pieces all over and completely falling apart. Then they had to get the approval to order the new motor, which took FOREVER. I had to call multiple times to complain. It is fixed now and works fine.
2. Leak in the bath tub fixture that changes the water from bath to shower head. This was repaired quickly and done very well with quality parts by a good plumber. I was pleased with this experience.
3. We had a unknown leak in the house, and were told that unless we could tell them where the leak was it was not covered under the policy. We were told to hire a plumber ourselves, pay for it with no reimbursement, and then if the leak was found to call them back to put in a claim. This seems like a loophole in the repair process for them.
Overall, if it is not an expensive repair, it is not a big issue. If it ends up being a high dollar amount problem, expect to wait for a long time to have it repaired. Also, read the fine print. view less

Buying this home warranty was a complete waste of my money. Within 2 weeks of closing on our new home, we discovered our furnace was not operable. We called HISCO to have them send a repair technician. They said someone would call us within 24 hours to schedule an appointment, but 1.5 weeks later we still had not heard back. When I called to find out what was going on, they informed me that they were unable to find a technician for our area and that we could find one ourselves. It would have been nice if they called to tell me this. So we called our own technician, had to pay them $100 for a diagnosis (which HISCO refused to reimburse the difference). The diagnosis was that the furnace was un-repairable and needed to be replaced. HISCO gave our technician the run-around for 2.5 more weeks before they finally called me to tell me that the issue with the furnance happeneded before the warranty and was therefore not coverable. I told them the home inspector did not notate any issue with the furnace but HISCO refused to cover anyway. What a big waste of money and time! DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!! I would STRONGLY STRONGLY urge you to consider other home warranty companies. We have had a series of issues with HISCO in just the short time we have had them as our insurance provider, and their response is absolutely unacceptable. Our fridge was broken, and they essentially told us they were unwilling to cover it. For 2 weeks, we had absolutely no fridge, and had to rent a replacement to store our food in the garage (for which they provided no sympathy or compensation). The bigger problem is our water heater, which has been broken since the 2nd week of December. We have been taking cold showers for the last 3+ weeks, including the entire holiday season when we had guests at our home. HISCO has sent various technicians (on 6-7 occasions), each time claiming that they are the "experts" of our particular unit. Each time the techs come, they are unable to repair it, claim a new problem, and HISCO calls a new technician to fix it. Thus far, we have had approximately 5 different parts fixed. Each new part requires 2-3 days of shipping minimum, and when we personally paid for expedited shipping (because we are tired of taking cold showers), HISCO is unwilling to reimburse us.

On one occasion, the part was being shipped from a San Jose vendor (where we live), and the technician was based in Walnut Creek. Instead of picking the part up from San Jose (which we even offered to do), the ridiculous technician had to wait 4 days for the part to get to his Walnut Creek office, "take inventory of it", and then drive it back down to San Jose to install in our home. And ofcourse, that part still did not fix the problem.

We have no trust in their company, and believe they are incompetent in numerous ways. Any other company would sympathize and would atleast consider replacing the unit entirely.

The service is terrible, their staff is incompetent, and they are completely insensitive to their customers' needs. view less

HISCO allows customers to request service on-line. You must describe type and location of issue in one line. If you fail to give enough details, they may refuse service or require additional co-pay. I have water leaking problem, and described it as "Plumbing, leaking, etc" and assume I can show technician more details. The leaking is next to a broken regulator. It is rejected since it is outdoor. They want separate co-pay since I did not specify "regulator problem" the first place. Their customer service are rude. No way to talk to a supervisor. I was with AHS for over 10 years. I bought a new house and my real estate agent recommended HISCO. They have been wonderful. I didn't like AHS and had had a few issues with them over the years so I know had I had them instead of HISCO it would have been horrible! My new house had a ton of issues. HISCO handled all of them in a quick and fair manner. They even replaced a faucet, that could never have been covered by AHS. My new house looked good but required a lot of repairs and replacements, hot water heater, dishwasher, faucet, two toilets that leaked, shower plumbing. I just assumed they would drop me when it came time to renew. They did not. I own rental property so when thoses houses old contracts expired I changed all four. If I had seen some of these other reviews I would not have used HISCO. I'm glad I didn't because they have been great! I highly recommend them! view less

I have had this policy for five years. During this time we have had to call the company one time. They were prompt with contacting a repairman, and the repair company that was contacted was prompt in contacting us and setting up a time to come and fix the problem. We hope we don't have to use it, but feel if we do they will be professional as in the past.

This is very ridiculous place. I have washer problem and they sent a contractor to fix this.
Service guy was just not responsible for his work. He complaint that, because power outlet is too far away from the washer, and he could not diagnose washer. The power extension code is only tools that is needed and he simply don't bring that. I called HISCO and they said they'll not cover any additional cost of upgrade for repair, and don't try to understand situation at all. It's definitely waste of money to buy this warranty.

I have used this company for two contract terms. During that time I had no issues at home. Finally I had a pipe leak in my ceiling. I called Cres / Hisco and they sent over a plumber from On Time Plumbing a COUPLE DAYS later. Despite the website claiming that you will not be charged unless a repair is done, I had to shell out $50 for him to do NOTHING. He refused to fix it because he claimed we would need to cut through support beams in my ceiling. This was total BS as any other plumber said the pipe itself was bad and needed to be replaced. I called and talked to the lady in charge there and voiced my concern and explained what I've been told from a number of plumbers. She said that I could use one of them and then submit my claim for reimbursement. Well that was a lie. It's been months and the claims department is still giving me the runaround looking for ways to not pay me.
