| Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights

I called for repair on one day and the following day it was all taken care of. HWA and the company they sent out were very curtious, concerned and very fast service. HWA also contacted me to verify the job was completed. I would recommend HWA to all my friends and family.
I have had HWA since December 2006. We have had wonderful service through them. Everything has been taken care of quickly and efficiently. I recommend them to friends and family.
Heat went out and technician had to order part on Thursday. Installed it on Monday. Professional techs and HWA customer service rep was helpful.
This was my first claim in my new home of only 3 weeks.
I was very pleased with how this was handled by the customer service agent and the technician who repaired my washing machine. Every one was professional and courteous.
Thank you.
I was very impress by the service technican who showed up in a reasonable amount of time, discussed what he was going to do and performed the work quickly and efficiently. He was very courteous and knowledgeable. He had all the needed tools to go up into my attice in a very small crawlspace to track down the problem and correct it.
The first company referred by HWA was very difficult to make an appointment with and was very unprofessional. We contacted HWA in regards to this situation and a new company was referred to us immediately and without difficulty. The second company was very professional.
Our microwave went out Friday evening. I filed an online claim Saturday morning. Over the weekend I received 3 e-mails from HWA advising me the information of the service company; encouraging me to contact them; asking me if I was being taken care of. Monday morning (the service company is closed on weekends) I was contacted. Monday afternoon a tech showed up and fixed the problem (replaced the magnetron). Overall experience exceeded my expectations.
We’ve made 2 claims so far this year: one for the fridge and one for the furnace. The claims were both filed online and contractors contacted me within a few hours. We had 2 entirely different experiences with the contractors, though. It took the fridge repair company 2 weeks to get the part in to fix our fridge. We never got an accurate estimate on how long it would take. But in the end, they fixed it and covered the claim, however frustrating the wait was. For the second claim, we noticed that the furnace wasn’t kicking on in the evening. We filed the claim online and the contractor called within a few hours. He said he’d be out the next day. I asked what I had to do to get him to come out that night and he said we either had to pay the difference ourselves for the “emergency pay” or call HWA and get them to agree to cover it and he would happily come out. It was supposed to get cold so I called HWA. They said they could only elevate the claim to emergency status if someone was sick in the household. I told her about my illness and not only was the rep quick to get the claim elevated but she was extremely sympathetic to my situation. The contractor came out that night. Unfortuantely he didn’t have the part to complete the repair so we bundled up that night. He was over the next afternoon, made the repair and we’ve been warm ever since. Very happy with this claim. Assumming we still have this kind of service and claim coverage, we will continue renewing our home warranty with the HWA each year.
Reported furnace problem and contractor (Baptist Htg. and Cooling) came the same day and did repairs. When the problem reasserted itself the next day, they immediately returned and took care of the problem with no additional service call fee. Have had great success with HWA over the last year.
I’ve filed two claims with HWA since the purchase of our policy. Our experience on the first claim definitely doesn’t deserve an excellent rating, but it was not HWA’s fault. The vendor was not on time, considerate, caring, nor did they submit the claim to HWA immediately. Had a broken dishwasher for THREE weeks!! Our second claim was exactly the opposite. I complained about the last vendor and HWA sent out a better one. Had my oven fixed in literally three days. Unbelievable! Everytime I call, HWA customer service reps are amazing. They are professional, courteous, and respectful. They care about you and strive to get the job done fast. I highly recommend HWA for my area and definitely plan to renew our policy. I hope they continue to work hard and stay in business; there are not many home warranty companies worthy of this type of commendation.
I filed an on line request for service today at about 2:00 pm. After waiting two hours and hearing nothing from them I started to call and left messages. At 6:00 I called the “Emergency” line and was told that they couldn’t page anyone for me since my situation didn’t warranty a page. The company promises to be a phone call away, 24X7 365. Well not today…as a result I have two new cars that I can’t get into my garage as the door won’t open due to a broken spring, and we are expecting thunderstorms here in Dallas tonight which also means we have the possibility of hail.
The tech said the conductor piece was still working but it is old and very weathered but could not replace it until its non functioning completely stated that its not fully broken but not working at its full capacity due to inefficient usage… he said it maybe has six more months at most and once it completely non operational it can be replaced…but the issue was the noise being very disruptful with sleep…the unit sets right outside our bedroom window so the issue really wasn’t resolved its still loud and isn’t efficiently fully operational but not yet fully broken either..so in six months I’m going to have to pay another $75 deductible once it breaks fully …not very cost effective
Excellent service! We submitted the claim online, received a reply within hours , scheduled an appointment for the next day and everything was working again ! Thank you.
A company is only as good as its employees. This company has some really great employees and others who have been just awful. Similarly, they have contracted some really great service companies and at least one that is truly awful. This is my third year with HWA. In that time, they have satisfactorily taken care of a variety of “small ticket” repairs, but refused to replace my HVAC system when it died. The repairman broadly hinted that he wanted to do the job himself (as a “side job”, presumably for more money than he would have been paid by HWA). He was so confident about this that he left a bunch of his tools in my yard in anticipation of returning. HWA elected to believe his outrageously false evaluation in order to save themselves an expensive claim. Cost me $10,000 to have the HVAC replaced (by a reputable company). Having said all of this, excluding this one HUGELY UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE, I have otherwise saved money on the smaller things that go wrong by not having to hire repair people on my own. As a female disabled military veteran with visible disabilities, it is difficult for me to engage honest trades people, so on balance I have elected to renew my contract with HWA each year.
We purchased our home almost 6 months ago and have had several claims since then. Each time, HWA has been very responsive to our situation and they have always sent out very knowledgeable and professional service technicians. Our AC unit failing in the August heat was the worst. The technician had to return several times but was courteous and explained the process each time. He told us that the unit would need to be replaced eventually but that he would continue to repair and replace parts to keep it going as long as possible. This approach seems very reasonable to me. HWA and the technicians they send out are trying to keep costs down and still provide good service to their clients. I would recommend HWA to other homeowners.
I make the appointment on line and someone was out that very day. Great service on this issue.
An A/C duct collapsed and IS covered under the contract. But they had all kinds of excuses. I made this claim 6 months ago and they did not follow up then. Made a second claim recently and they had nothing but excuses. Stay away from these folks!
Love the service and timely manner in which everything is done. Have been a customer of HWA for several years now and have never had a problem. Love them, love them, love them.
I moved into a new house a few weeks ago, and recently my dishwasher started making a loud grinding noise. I called HWA to have it looked at, and they sent someone out the next day. He took the machine apart and said that the motor was going out, and that either the motor or the entire machine needed to be replaced because it wasn’t going to last much longer. I got a call from HWA that same night saying that my claim was rejected because it was a “pre-existing condition.” I had a home inspection done before I bought the house and was present during the inspection, and the dishwasher was making no such noise. By their logic, any appliance that isn’t brand new technically has a pre-existing condition. They are using the fact that I just moved into the house as an excuse to save a few bucks…unbelievable. I will be contacting my realtor to petition them to remove HWA from their list of suggested vendors.
HWA continually finds excuses to deny claims. I had an AC unit that passed Home Inspection that went out, in the middle of a Very, Very Hot Phoenix July that HWA would not replace. Do not waste your money on this company….
Totally irresponsible company – they seem to have a task to find any way not to reimburse the claim – each time they give different excuse without any logic. It seems that other people had same issues: they use word it was “tempered” equipment – we can nt reimburse, even it is 100% original. 100% will not renew
I have been pleased with the service of HWA. I have been with them for a few years and have had to call in claims several times. I have had an AC replaced in a home I was selling. Have had an ice maker and washing machine fixed in the last several months. The only issue I have had was with one of the companies they selected to fix my ice maker. It took several calls and almost two weeks for them to fix it. But HWA stayed on top of the issue and followed up with the company and me to make sure it got fixed. I was pleased with that. Their reps are always kind and professional.
HWA refused to fix a water leak under the sink stating it was not part of the agreement; yet water purification systems were not an exclusion. After the fact they stated the system was not installed professionally but would not look at the fact we had receipts showing the system was installed professionally. It took more than 4 days to get a return phone call also. I would not recommend this company.
Again, I have enjoyed being a customer of HWA, each of the years I have been a member I have had good service from HWA. I have not always had good service with some of the technicians who have come to my home.
HWA has always been very courteous and professional. I prefer to call in my request instead of going online. The wait-time is usually quite short and the representatives are very courteous. The service technicians are thorough and very qualified. I appreciate the good customer service and I appreciate having such a short wait time until a technician arrives to resolve my problems. All of the work done so far has been “repairs”. I hope to experience the same quality of service when something needs to be replaced.
