| Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights

I don’t if it is as much of a problem with HWA as it is with the Venders they use and will not return calls.
The first time I made a claim, the A/C vendor was prompt, told me what he thought the problem was. Said they would order parts and return to install. After (2) weeks, I called HWA and was told that my claim was denied (???!!). I paid another comapny to fix my A/C problem.
This past week we got home from work, no A/C, e-mailed HWA, they promptly sent me claim # a different company to call. That same evening, called the A/C vendor HWA recommended, left my phone # and my claim #. It’s (5) days later, no call, no responce from HWA, other than some useless e-mails.
It’s 104 degrees in Texas. I have called someone and had my problem fixed (all out of my pocket) Whats the point of a home warranty?
DON’T BUY IT!! Stay away from them. I had horrible experience with them. They are not here to help you get your problem fixed. They are there to come-up with some kind of unbelievable out-of-this world excuse not to send a technician.
I’m not a competitor or have no affiliation with other companies. I’m a real customer in Sugar Land, TX. Just send my cancellation notice. I’m hoping to get my money back. But to be honest, I’m not sure that I can get full refund with this unprofessional organization.
The actual claim process with the company was great, the provider has been horrible as far as service, but that is not the home warranty companies fault. I will refuse to use this contractor again, which they said I can do and is fine. So, while I won’t be using this contractor again, I was very satisfied with our first home warranty claim.
Horrid! First claim had to be argued like crazy. Now second claim an oven that doesn’t work anymore. Took 3 weeks to get someone out then about 10 phone calls and severeal emails (never answered) to get anywhere. they sent an email closing the claim without ever contacting us. When I called them again, they said they would pay a certain amout to cover stove. So we paid $100 service fee and we are told to wait up to 6 weeks to get a check that won’t cover a new stove and no one to install it.
I had a home warranty with another compnay in the past and had no problems like this. Save your money and the headache, they’ll do anything not to help you!
This was the first time using Home Warranty of America and We are very pleased with the outcome. The technician that came out was Al from Comfort Central. He was right on time and very professional. He informed me of everything he was doing and what was the cause of the problem with our A/C. He fixed the problem and the A/C is working great! We will most definitely use Comfort Central for any of our future problems.
I just filed my first claim and I had a very good experience. I submitted the claim online on a Sunday evening and shortly thereafter I received an email confirmation and the name of the repair company assigned to me. The next day I received a call to schedule an appointment, and the following day the repair of my dryer was complete. The repair technicians (Aldo Appliance Service & Repair) were professional, friendly, and helpful and I highly recommend them. Overall this has been a very pleasant experience.
HWA representatives are very friendly, professionals and polite. I am very happy with this company. I have had 3 claims, first the gabage disposal which was immediately replaced by a new one, then the exhaust fan motor (contractor had to buy the parts and am still waiting for them to call me) and the air conditioning which was handled by a poor contractor who was so unprofessional. They did not arrive on a time and did not give a courtesy call that they are arriving late or worst didn’t make it so we have to rescheduled. As far as the American Home Warranty people’s concerned they are all good. I will highly recommened them.
HWA took care of us again. I really love the courteous service we get everytime. The technician who did our repair was polite and quick. He was so knowledgeable, he knew what the problem was and had it fixed within minutes. Awesome!
I just obtained a home warranty with HWA in May. In June, my 3-year-old LG washing machine broke. It is one month later … and after MULTIPLE visits from MULTIPLE vendors … all of whom “cannot find out what the problem is” … they REFUSE to pay anything. I have had other home warranty companies in the past, and truly Home Warranty America is THE WORST. I am very sorry I ever purchased a warranty from them.
RIP-OFF ! DO YOUR RESEARCH AND FIND ANOTHER COMPANY. My circuit breaker needed to be replaced which is connected to my air conditioner. Last October (2010) HWA sent sent an electrician to my home to replace the circuit breaker. I noticed that the electrician replaced the circuit breaker with a used part. I immediately contacted HWA to voice my concerns regarding the quality of this used part and the HWA rep instructed me not to worry that if anything went wrong with the circuit breaker for the air within one year to simple contact them (HWA) and they would take care of it. Since the repair was in early October there was not much time to “test” the circuit breaker for the air. Fast forward to June 2011 -THE CIRCUIT BREAKER IS NOT WORKING. I contacted HWA and they NOW tell me that I have to contact the company that did the repairs. I contacted the company and they stated that I have to contact HWA because HWA is their client. HWA now tells me that there is nothing that they can do about it. HWA tried to contact the company/electrician that they contracted for the repair and the rep from HWA tells me that the no one from the company will return HWA’S calls regarding this situation. So the HWA rep Kelly tells me that it is my responsibility to contact this company. WHAT?!!
HWA forces you to use the contractor that HWA does business with for the repairs, however HWA does not guarantee the contractor’s work??!!! I NOW HAVE TO EAT THE COST AND HIRE ANOTHER ELECTRICIAN. In the time that I have been doing business with HWA they have rejected my claim (s) and DID NOT guarantee the ONLY claim (repair) that they honored .
was our first time to use this HWA home warranty, Our refridge was not cooling, called it in and HWA was very professional, and scheduled service, even emailing the info. Got a call from the provider and they came out the very next day, and the provider understood how to inspect and repair our SubZero refridgerator. Working great now and hope that if and when we need to call HWA that the experience will be similar to this. so far, a very hapy customer!
I recently filed a claim with this company. My dishwasher had a problem and the technician was sent within few days. He concluded that the problem was a common one and that he just had to order the defective part and come back. He did all this from home with his office and the next appointment was taken. I then receive a phone call from HWA telling me that the repair would not be covered because the problem was caused by food debris in the dishwasher. Since the technician did not pull out the machine nor opened any part, I don’t see where this conclusion, different from the technician’s came from. The HWA rep on the phone then offers me a solution: you can call another vendor and have another diagnose, but it will be at your charge. I gave the assignment back to HWA: you call the vendor who came and you fix it because: you both have different conclusions and there must be a mistake somewhere, but there is no food debris in my dishwasher since I always rinse everything I put in there!
My luck was that the vendor fixed the problem with HWA! The boss came himself and looked. He confirmed the first technician diagnose and then called HWA to confirm that there was no misuse nor debris, and it was just a normal wear/tear. Other claims I have had in the past were rejected for disputable reasons. I am here because I am looking for another company. This one will look for any reason or make-up one to not cover a repair.
I was amazed to reach a customer service rep at around 4:00 on a Sunday afternoon. On top of that, she was friendly, empathetic, super helpful, AND got an A/C repair person to my home two hours later. I was astonished! The A/C guy diagnosed the problem that day, ordered a new motor the next morning, and had it installed the following day. Great customer service!
We just bought a home, and discovered a water stain in the dining room carpet. We suspected a slab leak after getting a leak detection company to investigate. After talking with the real estate agent, HWA dispatched Ostarly Plumbing. He came in, found the leak behind the refrigerator within 30 minutes, and had us fixed up shortly thereafter. No expensive equipment needed, no BS. Just expertise and common sense. He even called in a separate claim for our refrigerator, which was unexpected. HWA’s customer service and email notifications keep you up to date on the status of your claim. They are very pleasant and helpful. I would highly recommend them.
I just love this company!! I have been a customer for years. Each time I had to use them the customer rep has consistently provided the greatest service and always followed up to ensure I was satisfied.
Our upstairs air conditioning went out in the muddle of night on a Sunday….and even worse on 4th of July weekend. As I was on hold, I decided to try creating a ticket online at the same time. My online ticket was created before I even got to an agent-very quick and easy. However I got a little nervous by mid-day because no one had called me. I went back online and left a reply and within minutes Miller A/C called and sent a service guy for the 1st round of appts…even though we weren’t an emergency because our downstairs was working and even with it being July 4th….I was pleasantly surprised and impressed at how quickly I was taken care of given the circumstances.
We have had two claims, both were responded to by local firms who were professional, knowledgable, and completed the repairs in a timely mannor. We would recommend these companies to others and recommend HWA to home buyers.
The Customer Service at HWA was excellent. Cy-Fair Mechanical was on time, knowledgeable, and wonderful. My only “complaint” is the excessive wait time when calling in a request for service at HWA. I tried to do an online request but it would not take my request. I got a message that it could not process the request and I would have to call customer service. I was on hold for 45 minutes.
We have used HWA for at least five years. In this case our A/C went out on a day when the temp hit 112.
The service rep was articulate and efficient.
I called the service technician, and they arrived within three hours and had the A/C running within 20 minutes.
All Heating and Cooling is a good company, and HWA is as well. I highly recommend them both.
We have been with HWA about two years..We have had three claims. The first involved a ceiling fan replacement. The electrical company that did the work was so good I used him for other work.
The second was a microwave problem. The tech called within an hour, He made an appointment for the next day and repaired the unit.
The third was aircondioner problem. Tech came out same day.The temp that day was about 98 and he made an extra effort to check it same day. Turned out to be the thermostat which he had on his truck. He made replacement, showed us how to operate all in less than an hour.
I couldn’t be more pleased with the service and support we received from HWA. We had two appliances fail, within a week of each other (microwave and dishwasher). The dishwasher had a small leak and rather than replace the rubber bushing that had deteriorated, the entire part that contained the bushing was replaced.
The microwave stopped working and a replacement part could not be found, so HWA replaced the microwave/oven with a new microwave/oven combination.
I felt bad about having two claims going on at the same time, but HWA put me at ease and understood that sometimes, appliances fail together like this. I will continue to recommend HWA to my friends and family members.
After we found that the spa in our new home did not heat properly, we contacted HWA. The vendor they assigned us did not proceed with the repair in a timely way after the initial consultation, and when HWA called us to confirm if the repair had been made, they switched us to a different vendor (who was timely, professional, and competent). After reading many negative reviews about home warranties, including HWA, I was very pleased with the efficient, courteous, and competent customer service HWA provided, particularly when following up and assigning us a second vendor.
DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY.
I first contacted HWA about a roof leak on June 9. They gave me a company name and claim number for who was going to come look at it. On June 14, they called to say they chose a different company to look at it. On June 15, I called to say I had not heard anything from the other company and was concerned about additional damage due to the delay in time. I got a call the next day from a guy saying they could have someone out in the next few minutes. I told him I would not be home for a couple of hours, but they sent someone anyway, who said he was unable to look at it because I was not there. They said they would come out the next week. Then I got an email from the insurance company that Friday that the claim was closed – apparently without anyone looking at it! THEN, I got another call from the company the next Tuesday from the insurance company saying they wouldn’t cover the leak (that was never even inspected????) because it was poor workmanship — on a house that was built 15 years ago with a 30-year roof, and it’s lasted this long???? Oh, please.
Anyway, they then said I would still owe a $100 service call fee, when I’m pretty sure NOBODY EVEN CAME OUT HERE – I’VE BEEN HERE EVERY FREAKING DAY SINCE!!!!!! WTF????
We recently have a water leak from basement ceiling. A service person came from a local company (Quality Plumbing) designated by HWA. He spent one hour, cut a hole in the drywall of the ceiling, but couldn’t find the source. Because he was given only one hour by his company (and presumably by HWA), he had to stop in the middle of the work to get re-authorization from his company. He did get a go-ahead and found the problem after cutting two more holes in the drywall ceiling. After that, he had to leave and filed a report to his company and get back to HWA. Total cost $110 for finding the problem or so and I had to pay $100 deductible.
HWA came back, saying the problem was not covered for an existing condition. I repealed to a “supervisor” and a “super-supervisor” to no avail. We started calling at 8:30am and by the time it ended at the “super-supervisor”, it’s 3:00pm. If I wanted to pay to get it fixed by the plumbing company, I would have to pay over-time rate and an estimated of 1.5 hour work (they counted over time after 4pm). Thus, at this point, I spent 6.5 hours dealing with HWA, got 3 holes in my ceiling, scratches on the sidewalls (from the serviceman’s work), and paid $100 (on top of the premium $450). The only upside was he found the source of the pipe leak. The only damage HWA was willing to pay was to put a rough patch of drywall in one hole but without painting or anything. I ended up calling a different service and got the problem fixed in 15 min the same day.
Summary: Be very careful using HWA. They would use certain key words or descriptions to reject claims. You can easily end up wasting valuable time, paying deductible, getting collateral damage that they would compensate or fix, but eventually getting your claim rejected. HWA is not your auto or home insurance company. You have to use its service companies. You are not entitled to a second opinion. Whatever HWA determined, there is nothing you can do. It is a cheap company (thus it limits service time, the service person has to get permissions at every step, and the supervisors are hostile when you try to repeal). My advice is that read carefully your contract before you make the call to HWA. For small or emergency situation, you may be better off using your own service. It would only make sense to call them when you are certain of coverage and the repairs are major. Overall, with the premium you need to pay, the deductible you need to pay each time, and the system you have to go through, HWA is not a good deal.
The service was excellent, as fast as possible, and the HWA representative was fantastic. The only problem was that the repair parts were not covered by the warranty, resulting i a large out of pocket expense.
