| Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights
President and CEO of HSA Home Warranty has responded to the criticism aired by some of their customers. Please read HSA Home Warranty Response

We have had 3 claims in the past year with them, 2 of them being denied. The furnace and ac both had problems, which they denied coverage of the problems because they claimed it was due to maintenance issues from the previous owners of the home. The only claim they did cover was a clogged drain, which cost us the $75 deductible, about what it would have cost anyway to have it unclogged. Next time I am offered this in a home purchase contract, I will refuse it just so they do not get my business!! Avoid!!!
Our home came with an HSA warranty, the following year we paid to continue the service. Our AC/Heat pump system stopped working and in southern NV you need AC!. We called they sent a Tech out within 2 days. He found that there was quite a bit of bird droppings so he could not do the work safely, but did feel the compressor was bad on the unit. We called in another company to power wash the roof and AC, and build a netting to keep birds away. this was $1100.00, but we felt worth it. Then we called the tech back and said it was clean and he could come do the work. Upon his return he then determined that he could not fit nto the area to actually do the work. HSA contacted another company and 2 days later sent another tech. They made me pay a second deductable and he also said that it was too tight of a space to get into and suggested we just get a new unit, which he quoted 6000.00 to 15,000. to replace. HSA will not cover this. We had an independent company that has a very good standing in the Las Vegas area come in at our expense, and he agreed that it was the compressor, that the AC unit had been well maintained but that because it was 19 years old it would be more cost effecient to replace the unit. He quoted us 4000.00 total for a new unit and we would quallify for a tax credit. I feel SA should pay for the replacement since we did maintain this unit, but because of age it would be better to replace. Even if they would meet us half way and pay for some i think would be better than just saying no flat out. And I think there tech that they work with know to denie claims and to try to sell you more expensive equipment. I will now be canceling my warranty, because I can see that they wont pay for any thing, and now I’ll have a new ac anyway with a 10 year warranty. i would not recomend this company to anyone!
AS I READ THE OTHER REVIEWS IT SOUNDS JUST THE SAME. AC PROBLEMS AND THE TECH THEY SENT SAID MY LEAK HAPPENED BEFORE MY CONTRACT. I HAVE BEEN IN THE HOME FOR TW0 MONTHS. REALLY STRANGE THAT SOMEONE CAN TELL WHAT DAY A LEAK STARTED. THEY WONT PAY! PAY FOR THE WARRANTY PAY A DEDUCTIBLE AND NO FIX! I NEED TO START A COMPANY I COULD MAKE A KILLING. GET PAID AND DO NO WORK. THIS COMPANY IS ANOTHER EXPENSE IN BUYING A HOUSE THAT IS POINTLESS. FROM MY DEALINGS I WOULD NEVER BUY INTO THIS SCAM AGAIN
BUYER BEWARE —DON’T BUY AN HSA HOME WARRENTY (unless you don’t want to file a legitimate claim–ever)! We bought a house that had the inducement of an HSA Home Warranty “for peace of mind” and it turns out they have denied nearly every claim (even though allegedly ”covered” under the terms of the policy) because they state it is not covered for one reason or another including ”design flaw” in a toilet (HSA claimed that the plumber stated it was a design flaw but the plumber denied to us that he ever stated a design flaw was the cause of the problem) or because it’s a ”pre existing condition.” I cannot even write more details on the interactions with HSA because I do not want to live through the hell again. I have never posted negative feedback on the internet for a company but felt compelled to do so in this case. I repeat: BUYER BEWARE.
21 days still no A/C. Enough said!!!!
They said the carrier part had to be made espically for me from the factory. Can you believe this.
I never had a home warranty company and deterimed that I was not missing much.
This is a COMPLETE waste of Money.
We hesitated covering our new home with a warranty because it was under 10 years old when we moved in the summer of 2008. Well, this warranty saved us the price of a new furnace this week! (We’ve also replaced the garbage disposal and the kitchen faucet. There is value to a home warranty. People need to read the guidelines and know what they are getting into with each repair so they don’t have surprises! For us, we had this same company in the Seattle area and there too we had very good service!!
I have had a couple claims with them thus far. They have been polite helpful and had great follow up. I had a microwave replaced, the repairman ordered the wrong size and they did not charge me the re-stocking fee for the return and were very understanding. I had to get my water heater replaced and the company they sent out was over priced on their estimate. HSA was honest with me about that and allowed me to choose my own licensed repair person and sent me a reimbursement check right away. Satisfied with this company
Overall I think HSA has done a great job in addressing the various claims we submitted over the past year in our new home. We had some plumbing issues fixed, our refrigerator repaired (2 times), Air Conditioning service addressed (2 times), Garage door opener fixed, and even had our furnace replaced! What a great deal!
However, when it was time to renew, HSA wanted more than double the first year contract price. Almost $900 to renew. Why such the increase I asked? Well, the rep identified too many claims. Well isn’t that the purpose for the insurance in the first place to cover unexpected problems? Looks like since they did not make money off of our premium payment, they want to make sure they get their money back at the renewal.
It is unfotunate that this is the game. They have to make money somewhere. They just won’t be doing it using my money. We have moved on and gone elsewhere.
HVAC problem that was dealt with professionally, considerately, timely and to my satisfaction. Their agent, All Air Solutions would get the same high marks. I have been a customer since 2002.
Renew with HSA? Over my dead body! This company is nothing but more headaches added on to your problems! My boiler breaks down on a cold winter night. We call HSA friday night to get a voicemail. Nobody answers the phone after 5pm! Which is annoying. We leave a voicemail they get back to us in 3 hours. Fast-forward the technician came to our home the following night and couldn’t figure out what the problem was! He changes the thermostat and that didn’t fix the problem. So he tells us that we need to call our oil company because they need to service our boiler, need some cleaning. So I ask him cant you do the cleaning? He refused. We later came to the conclusion that he didn’t know what the hell was going on. We still had to pay for the deductible because of thermostat he replaced. We call Petro they come out and fix the relay switch in 20 minutes!! Heat is back on! Every bodies happy and warm. We call back HSA and try to get some type of refund for what we paid and they didn’t budge! NEVER AGAIN WITH HSA! and this was just one out of 3 issues we had with this company.
It’s weird that HSA even sells policies in my area, because they had one company under contract to look at my roof. It turned out he didn’t have insurance, so he called me right before my appointment (when I had already come home just for that) to tell me he couldn’t come. When I called HSA, they said just get anyone in the area to come and have him call while at my house. When I called after the guy had checked out my roof, the “lady” was somewhat angry that I had done this, because HSA had assigned me to another company…so apparently communication is not one of their best skills. We had the home inspected before we bought it, and the inspector said it was nicely done. Now it is leaking, but HSA says that the fact that it started leaking 9 months after we bought the house is a pre-existing condition, because the guy wants to redo it to fix the problem…awesome.
Too bad for HSA they don’t realize that we are military and will be buying lots of houses over our lifetime as we move around. This means they have lost quite a bit of money from us because we will never buy another policy. This also means they have lost quite a bit of money from our friends, because they are also military and move a lot and we will advise them not to get tangled up in this shady business.
The insurance game is not to pay to fix anything. The guy who came out to look at our roof said warranty companies will call him 6 or 7 times per claims that they deem to be covered, just to make sure he really thinks the fix is necessary.
Bottom line- HSA is shady ops.
Terrible! Luckily we got this service with the purchase of our house. I would not put a penny into this scam! Renew? No way. Every time we had a problem, it was not covered. All the service providers they used were in different states, so timely service was a problem. The customer service people were rude and did not call back unless it was to leave a message to renew our service.
I would not recommend anyone waste their money with this company and don’t consider it a bonus if it is offered with a purchase of a new home.
Never ever will I use this company again. It cost me $50 each time I had an issue. It cost me $50 each time a technician came out just to tell me “I am not covered”. EVERYTHING is pre-exsisting to this company. If by miracle you are covered and need a replacement, THEY decide how much your old appliance was worth. The customer service couldnt have been more rude. Do yourself a favor and find a company that will look at your home before covering it. HSA covers a home without looking at it only because they know they are going to turn around and say “it’s pre-exsisting or we will determine what your stuff is worth”.
Reading these reviews just amazes me. When the policy holder calls in a claim, why is it ALWAYS a negative reaction against the warranty company. Most warranty companies have millions of customers, so there will be complaints.
The simple fact is if the homeowners would read their policies BEFORE calling for service, they would realize some items are not covered.
Home warranty coverage is not blanket coverage. It does help to have a warranty.
I’ve worked for numerous warranty companies, and yes they are not the best. However, without them, YOU the homeowner would be paying far more than what you may have to repair a none covered item.
My furnace stopped working Saturday night and by Sunday morning the temperature in my house was down to 58 F. I called HSA and the rep told me that since it was only going to get down to 48 F they could not authorize overtime for someone to come out and fix it. I told her I have a 3 week old living in the house. She didn’t care!!! She said I would have to wait till Monday morning for a service call. This is not my first call into HSA, but it will be my last!!! What a waste of money!!! F***K YOU HSA!!!
I’m a service tech that preforms warranty work for this company.I have worked for them for numerous years. I read the reviews on a regular basis. Some of the policy holders i can relate to some of the negetive reviews. Some of the comments about the techs sent out are incompetent. That can go both ways,if hsa provides service or the home owner calls own contractor. I have had bad dealings trying to get a claim approved, but on the other hand it has save the person a great savings out of pocket expense. The best thing for new policy owners, READ WHAT IS COVERED AND WHAT IS NOT COVERED.You can get this information on the hsa website. I take pride in what i do. It’s not up to the tech, we are not paying the bill. As for showing up, collecting the service fee,and do nothing, we have to have something for driving to your home, diagnos the problem. Some don’t agree, but its fair. As for the response to your claim, you have to realize we don’t just sit and wait for hsa calls. We try to get to hsa calls as soon as we can.I’m not for hsa, if i could get more hours without working for this company i would not hesitate. Not all techs are incompetent. Thinking of a home warranty, check for reviews. They are pretty much the the same. Done work for american home schield, they are no better. Thanks for reading. Plumber
medium-good overall service…didn’t appreciate they wanted to increase the premium after first year!
Our hot water tank was leaking. I called HSA Warranty at 6:30 am, they were very professional and said that Rocky Point Plumbing would be calling us around 10:00 am. My husband called me at 7:30 am and said the guy would be at the house between 8 and 9 am. They replaced the hot water tank…no problem getting it replaced. I have used HSA several times, and I find that the customer service is excellent and the repair companies are very quick and professional.
HSA home warranty we got from previous home owners.Once my refrigerator was not working .It took 5 days for a person to be available to look at it.Lot of fees, high deductible and poor service make it total waste of money to buy HSA home warrenty.
They lie…..and everytime i called them it was a different response!!! so frustrating!!! I hate this company so much!! I asked to speak with a manager even before i submitted the claim for my oven, I guess cause I new they were gonna screw me!! if it sounds to good to be true it usually is!! i asked this manager about the cash out option for my 21 year old stove bc i knew it would be a waste just too fix it, and she told me that they would not take my $100 deductible out of the claim again. so belieliving her since she is a mangaer I went ahead and spent the $100 to have my stove diagnosed and what do u know…. the said it would cause $264.00 for them to fix it but would only give me $164.00 since that’s what A&E is chargin them…freakin bull shit!! so now minus $100.00 i already gave A&E and their only giving $64.00!! they need to honor what the manager told me and not deduct the $100 that she said they wouldn’t,but there not!!! I hate this stupid company and they only want your money!! they don’t care about their customers. It really pisses me off that i asked that question and was lied too!!! Honor and stand behind ur managers. not to mention everytime it was a different story about one thing or the next!! U dont need this company, their no good!!!
The house warranty was an added incentive to the purchase of our house. We felt some added comfort in this. So far everything that we have replaced isn’t covered by the company. We have replaced the roof, hotwater tank, electric box and are having difficulties with the heater. Their company don’t cover much of anything. They don’t get back to you for required information, so that the claim doesn’t get processed. Our home waaranty has been nothing less than a disappointment. We would have been better off without one. Our realator told us the plan was a joke, but we didn’t believe her.
The warranty company is terrible. STAY AWAY. There are ridiculous parts of appliances not covered! They considered my washer tub a cosmetic problem despite the fact that the hole in the tub is leaking water all over the basement. Seems like a failure that makes the appliance inoperable.
When my renewal come in a couple of months, I’m finding a better warranty company.
My girlfriend and I just bought an older house with older heating/ac. I was thinking about purchasing this warranty to cover our backs. We have now decided to change all heating and ac in the house to new but I was still thinking about getting covered. After reading these reviews, I’m not going anywhere near this company. Thanks to everyone who posted because you made this decision a lot easier for me.
Worthless company with worthless warranty. Be aware that if you call with a problem and they determine that it’s not covered, you will be responsible for paying the ENTIRE fee charged by the service technician – not just the $50 deductible. If I knew that were the case, I’d have shopped around for someone significantly cheaper to look at the appliance. Instead I got stuck with a pretty decent service call charge just to find out that the item wasn’t covered. Nice. So what’s the point of the warranty?! Needless to say, we did NOT renew our coverage!
I purchased a year contract with HSA Home Warranty for a rental property i bought. I called for repair when the Air conditioning did not work. Took several days for a service call. This is ARIZONA people! It get HOT here! With temperatures into the 110F, my renters were not happy people at all. They denied the repair work saying improper work was done to the unit previously! I know for a fact the previous owner of the property (a BANK) comissioned a reputable air conditioning company to preform repairs 6 months prior to my purchase of the property. I called another air conditioning company (who by the way came out the very next day!) They gave me a quote of repair way less than the company HSA had come out. They said the repairs this other company wanted to do were not nessasary at all. It still wound up costing me $650! All out of my pocket. I complained of course to HSA and even filed a BBB complaint against them as well. Needless to say… no satisfaction here! If i could give negative ratings i would! Stay far AWAY from HSA!!! total ripoff company!
