| Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights

I have tried now for 3 days to get them to answer their phone and email. My paper work says they can be reached 24/7. Their webb site now says Mon.-Fri 10-5. I have just cancelled their auto deduction on my credit card. This company as far as I am concerned has stolen my money and everone else. Any suggustions how they can be stopped?
We thought National Home Protection was a good company until we called them this year. This year their phone line is busy all the time. We have tried to email them and send a fax, but no answer. I have been reading reviews about different Home Warranty companies, because we (my wife and i) want to get a new company, but all the reviews are bad except for that company that only services Colorado. Anyway, that’s it I guess the best thing to do is just save up your money and hope for the best, and that none of your appliances break.
Also if anyone can get in touch with the President of the United States or with Congress tell them that those home warranty companies in New York are all a bunch of scammers. Maybe we can send the Marines over there and bomb the heck out of them.
We have been calling, and emailing NHP since last Wednesday the phone rings continuesly until it rings busy.No one has attempted to respond to many attempts to reach them. I don’t know what to do like many others we just don’t have the money to make repairs exactly the reason we purchased the warranty. If any one has been sucessful with getting through lately please share Thanks
I put in one claim in 11 months and was emailed a name of a company that has never worked for NHP, in fact, had never even heard of them. When I tried to contact NHP by phone, leaving several messages, and by email, leaving over 20 messages, I received no response whatsoever. It was like the company did not exist. It has been 5 weeks now and still no response. Do NOT get a warranty from this company. Like others have said, NHP is a scam. To protect others I reported them to the BBB and Attorney General in NY and Colorado. I paid almost $400. all up front for the year and got no service at all, not even a response back to my numerous messages. In today’s economy no one wants to lose their hard earned money. Live and learn I guess.
No one answers the phone. They don’t respond to online service requests.
I had 2 issues since I have had my policy in effect. The first one has been ongoing since 5/08. The 2nd issue was something that I decided since the repair person couldn’t find a problem, I just paid the $300 to purchase a new dishwasher and canceled my service call. The main issue I have with them is that I had called about my air conditioner in May in south Louisiana. Yes it was getting hot by then… The repair person who came out after 3 days, was very nice and the people in their office were also very nice. They told me I needed freon and nicely filled up my freon. I then spoke to them and they stated that I would need to have a leak test done on my own dime per the home warranty company. I did that and a leak was found. I submitted that documentation to the company. The adjuster contacted me and stated he needed service records. I said I have lived here less than a year, I will see what I can do and would an inspection report do if I could find that. He stated yes and I then found a service inspection from August of 2007. I sent that in and was told my claim was denied because I only had one inspection and it was over 6 months old. I basically needed one every 6 months. I had never heard of this and couldn’t find it in my policy. I asked to speak to his supervisor and was told he didn’t have one. He called me a liar and was basically rude to me. I then contacted the disputes center and received no contact until about 3 months later after I threatened to contact BBB and wanted a refund. I then heard back from a person and had contact with her. Found out what else was necessary and have since sent it all in month ago. I have not received any information from anyone and have been e-mailing for over 2 months to both the person I was dealing with via e-mail and the main disputes e-mail address. I have also now filed a complaint with the BBB and see that they have a large amount of no-response claims against them. DO NOT EVER PURCHASE A HOME WARRANTY FROM THIS COMPANY!!! They will take your money, lie to you, call you a liar, and then not respond.
horrible everything, they will take your money and then you can never get i touch with them again ;-(
NHP DOES NOT PAY THEIR SERVICE PEOPLE……..05/27/09 THEIR PHONES DO NOT ANSWER, FAX ALSO….
I contracted over the internet for this companies services and have yet to hear anything from them. They sent an email telling me my rate and to email them or call. I have called numerous times and have never reached anyone and no one has ever returned my calls or emails. I wiil cancel my policy.
No answer at any of the phone numbers, fax disconnected. Fraudulent company. Disputed credit card charges as frudulent. DO NOT USE THEM!
This company is a scam. They gave me a claim # and I called a Tech to come out. He did and found that the control panel on a dishwasher was blown. They could not an authorization from NHP and no one would return their calls. I called 16 times and could not get to anyone that could answer a question. I emailed them with no response. I faxed them but the fax numbers had been disconnected. They are a scam. I have contacted the attorney general and am still waiting. Meanwhile I paid for the waranty, I paid the copay to the tech, and now I have to buy a new dishwasher
This is the worst Home Warranty Co in existance. I’ve had them for 2 years. After extending my policy for a second year, my AC went out in the middle of the summer. Called in my claim, did not get someone until the next day. They said the problem was pre existing and it was not covered, the company that came out said that we needed a new unit, and gave me an estimate for them to replace it. I had been burning up for a week when I called someone else to look at it and all it needed was freon. In December I had a pipe to bust in the ceiling of my garage, water was everywhere. Filed my claim it was denied. They said they do not cover galvanized pipes. I told them that the contract did not state that. They were rude, would not let me speak with a supervisor. I filed a complaint with the BBB here in Houston where I live, eventually it was closed because they (NHP)never responded to it.
The worse company that i had to ever deal with. The claim was open for more than 3 weeks and no one came for repair and they assigned 5 Technician but I was told by each one of them that they had problems with the NHP. We Will never do business with them again. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!
I reviewed numerous home warranty sites and decided to go with National Home Protection. The customer service representative offered an unbeatable payment option, with a below normal monthly payment and deductible. It sold me and I started the warranty. However, four months in, our refrigerator compressor failed. I contact NHP and they informed me that they did not have a contractor in my area, which was strange. I was instructed to contact a repair service of my choice and upon a completion of the diagnostics, the repair man was to call NHP to receive authorization to complete the repair, which was done. I was instructed to fax a copy of the repair invoice along with a document from NHP which depicts my account number and authorization repair number, which was done. One month later, with no reimburshment, I called NHP and was told they never received the fax. I then mailed the same documents via certified mail. One monthe later, I called again and was told they did receive the documents and I should be receiving reimburshment within the week. Two weeks later, I called again and was told a message would be sent to “accounts payable” to resolve my issue. One week later, I began calling and I immediately placed on hold for approximatley two to three minutes after which a out-going message states that my call is being answered by “ACP anwering service”. I have left over twenty voice-messages for a return call and I have even sent over twenty emails, with no responses. On one email, I threatened to contact the New York Attorney General. I’ve had enough, I’ve placed a block on my bank account to not allow NHP to withdraw my monthly premium. In short, I am out over $900 for the repair and approximately $200 in premiums. It obvious; National Home Protection is a complete SCAM.
Woke up on a Monday morning to water on the floor of my garage from a leaking hot water heater. Called NHP to have it looked at, they were having computer problems and couldn’t help me. Said to call back in the afternoon. I did and no answer. Called Tuesday morning and finally got a name of a plumber they approved to look at my hot water heater. He said he would be over that evening to look at it. He never showed up or called. I left the plumber a message on his phone. Wednesday morning I called the plumber again left a message. Wednesday evening I called back to NHP and let them know what was going on with the plumber, they said he is the only “approved” one in the area. I asked the lady on the phone at NHP if it was going to be a problem to get my hot water heater replaced. She said “no” in her NY accent. Thursday still no response from the plumber after numerous messages to please call me. Friday called NHP back and said that the plumber has not called me back, what can be done. I was then informed that I could get a different licensed plumber out to make an inspection and to have the plumber call them direct. Finally the next Monday, one week later, with no hot water, I was able to get a licensed plumber out to my house. I then got a call from the plumber after he spoke with NHP saying that the cost for replacing the hot water heater was not covered! I then prompted called NHP and asked what was going on that it’s not covered. The lady was very rude and said she could not “speak” with me about it only the plumber. I asked to speak with her supervisor, apparently they weren’t in, I asked when they would be because I would call back. She didn’t know…. As you can guess I continued to call all the next week everyday different times of the day until I got her supervisor. They were just as rude to me. I cancelled the policy and blocked any future monthly charges on my cc to me. Long story short they didn’t pay for anything, and I was out $900, plus the money for the policy that was no good. NEVER use National Home Protection!!
National Home Protection does not follow through with their promises, nor do they complete the contract agreements, and they mislead the items coverage when you do need to make a claim before you purchase the warranty coverage, so then if something does happen, you are not actually covered. They also do not complete nor pay the promotional agreements for signing up either. No matter how much you follow up you get the run around. The customer service is horrible, no matter what time of day you call or no matter what day of the week, you always have to hold for at least 15-20 minutes to speak to a live person and this is every time, and then still get horrible service, or they just bounce you around from person to person and you never get a straight answer from anyone. Then we were told that if you need to make a service repair call, someone will be at your home within 6 hours, and this is 24 hours a day. This is not true either. Their overall performance gets the lowest rating I have ever had.
I signed up with this company 3 months ago. They have collected the monthly premium out of my account on the 1st of each month. My a/c compressor broke the other day. Now I discover they are a bunch of scammers. I could have gone with a different company and would not be sitting here in 100+ degree weather with no a/c. These jerks don’t realize how they affect peoples’ lives.
Be ready to wait 30 days for repairs…
Be ready to wait a month before repairs, companies do not want to work with this company. I will never use them again.
I paid for a plumber to come to my house and was charged $65 for the visit. Turns out that it’s not covered under the protection plan and I was never informed until the plumber (Your 1 Plumber) called me a day later. Here’s the kicker, the plumber said my toilet bowl was cracked and needed to be replaced. He reseated it and figured it was the toilet bowl and was charging my $400 to replace it. Called one of my uncle and it turn out that the leak was in the water tank and not the toilet bowl. Bought a $2 sealant to fix it.
NY AG sues home warranty company for fraud
2 days ago
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — The New York attorney general says a New York City-based home warranty company cheated customers in at least 32 states out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said Monday he has obtained a temporary restraining order against National Home Protection Inc. and three of its principals — Leo Serrur, David Seruya and Victor Hakim.
Their home warranty plans promise to repair or replace household appliances and systems if they break. Pending court action, the company can’t sell any more out of New York.
Cuomo isn’t sure how many people are affected. But he says customers often spent hundreds of dollars on a warranty but National refused to honor contracts.
The company didn’t return calls Monday.

This company is a scam. It is very difficult to reach the center. The staff is very unprofessional. When I file a claim, the first contractor refused to do the work because this company didn’t pay. The company refused to replace a fuse for my dryer and ask for proof that the dryer is originally in working condition. Please avoid this company. I am surprised that this company still can survive.
Appliance Service Repair contractor, work for NHP 3 month and never got paid from them. This company is Horrible! this is the worst company I have ever done business with. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.
Oddly enough NHP did a great job with me 2 years back regarding repairs on my washing machine and microwave. Now when I look online I am alarmed with the problems NHP is having. So my message to all is that I may have been a fluke. Now they are not even allowed to work in TX. http://www.homewarrantyreviews.com/texas-lawsuit-national-home-protection
It took them 3 weeks to respond for my dishwasher. I ended buying another one in the interim. My contract is over this month and I’m shopping for a new provider. They rate next to AHS
