| Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights

Bad check received. I have a repair company and nationwide home warranty called me saying we owe you money we are sending you a check. well, they sent me the paycheck but it bounced costing me additional overdraft fees. I cant get anyone on the phone, i also sent faxes and they still wont respond to cover the bad check.
IF YOU ARE A CONTRACTOR DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE. THEY ACT AS IF THEY ARE DOING YOU A FAVOR BY GIVING YOU BUSINESS THEN THEY NICKEL AND DIME YOU OUT WHAT IS OWED TO YOU AFTER YOU COLLECT THE DEDCUTIBLE FROM THE CUSTOMER. THEY TELL YOU WHAT YOUR PRICES SHOULD BE AND WHAT YOU SHOULD BE CHARGING FOR SERVICES WHEN YOU TRY TO TELL THEM WHAT IT ACTUALLY COSTS AND IT IS A MONEY LOSING SITUATION. WHEN YOU CALL ABOUT PAYMENT THAT IS OWED TO YOU THEY HAVE SOME MONKEY READING FROM A SCREEN WITH SCRIPTED ANSWERS THAT TELL YOU NOTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW.
Do not do business with Nationwide Home Warranty. They are cheat. They just use some or other excuses not to cover the service. My clothes dryer went out of order and I requested a service call. After a week a repair person came and checked the dryer. He said that there was some problem with the control panel. We purchased this dryer about 5 years back and I had a home warranty with American Home Shield and only 2 times in past I had a problem with the dryer and American Home shield promptly repair it. But Nationwide is asking me to show all the maintenance records that states that the dryer was maintained properly in the past for 5 years. I do not have those records as I had a home warranty and they took care of it. I think Nationwide is just trying to sneak out of the repair services and that’s why they are making excuses. They told me to get it repaired out of pocket expenses and submit the claim for reimbersment and if they found it appropriate then they will pay me back. But after reading all the reviews on the blog, I do not think I am going to take that risk.
My sincere advise is to keep away from this company and even though other companies are little more expensive go for them. I had a very good experience with American Home Shield.
Any advise about filing a complaint against them??????
Do not do business with Nationwide. They want your money and will not assist you after getting it. I just tried to report a claim. When they finally answered, the young man sounded like I was disturbing him. My hot water heater went out. 3 hours later still no plumber. I called back, was on hold for 55 min. listening to an auto answer. When they finally answered I said I hadn’t heard from a plumber, he asked what is this regarding??? My heater was 11 yrs old…my claim is pending review???? Horrible customer service. They don’t care about you at all!!!!
I do not like having to file a claim on-line. When my heater stopped working in the middle of the winter, 2009, I don’t need to be waiting by my computer for a reply. They advertised 24/7 service, I don’t call this 24/7 service.
Online claims — a bad idea.
Still waiting to hear from them regarding my refund. Run, run very fast from them!!! I may have to contact my local news stations to have Nationwide investigated for the disloyal service they provide to their customers.
As all other pundits – this company is a rip-off – will not repair anything – only send canned replies to the BBB – I am cancelling my contract early so they don’t charge me for next year 3 months before contract ends – I figure its better to cover my losses!
BEWARE!!!! Send your money and that’s the last time you will ever speak to anyone again. Had a claim for my dishwasher, tech came out took my $40, said he would be back with a part and never heard from him again. Repeated calls and emails to Nationwide and service company to no avail.
Second claim was on plumbing, sent a great local plumber out and they fixed it, however they cannot reach Nationwide for payment. This company is a scam. I will be contacting the Attorney General and BBB.
FINALLY they are not allowed to sell HW policies in Nevada. All my hard work PAID OFF. Company is a TOTAL SCAM!! Should have googled them 1st. Lesson learned!
I am sorry to report that Nationwide Home Warranty provides the worst service I have EVER received from a company. I totally agree with the previous posts regarding this company. Please AVOID DOING BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. There is no way this is a legitimate business. They are ripoff
con artists.
They never answer the phone in a timely manner. They keep you on hold forever. They utilize the worst service repair companies. I believe there are only two persons employed in the entire company. They treat the customers they do have like sh-t.
Criminal charges should be filed against them for fraud.
Pleassssssssssse stay clear of this company.
I hope after reading my reviews, people will be aware not to throw their money to these folks and rather give it to some charity. I went to these guys for home warranty because they did some work for one of my friend which was very low cost fixes (below $100). Also they were charging only $350 for my home warranty and I became greedy. Their first email came which was at a very high level and sounded like they will cover everything I wanted. The sales person was very nice to talk to. Once I made the payment, they sent me a document of all the disclaimers. I was too comfortable talking to their sales guy so didn’t bother to read the document in detail. After going thru 65 days of above 100 degree Austin temperature, my cooling system stopped working. I made a claim on their website and it took almost 5 days of repeated phone calls before a contractor arrived. It was a tough week for me and my family to live in that kind of heat. I paid visiting fee to contractor before he entered my home. That contractor was very well aware of how to decline the claim. Without opening the A/C unit, he said that there is rust in the evaporation coil. I asked the contractor that how he made that judgment without opening the unit and he had no answer.
So I guess they are hand in gloves with each other and will do only if the cost of repair is very low.
Again, please learn to love your money and don’t give it to them.
This is what their disclaimer for Cooling System. They will categorize your issue in one of these and decline to do any work. Please stay away from them. Donate money to poors instead. Don’t give them to these folks.

This has been true experience of “you get what you pay for”. If you want to loose money than go for it (better donate it to poors in Haiti). I had a claim for A/C and its evoporation coil was leaking. They flatly refused to fix it. Then I had issue with microwave keypad malfunctioning and they labeled it as button problem which was not correct. Finally I had to pay $1000 myself to get my items fixed. Please make judgement yourself by reading their clause for built-in microwave coverage. In such a small piece of equipment, they have 15 disclaimers and most of your problem can be described as one of these. On top of that you will end up paying $60 to the contractor they will send home.

This company is the worst I think I have ever dealt with. I will definately throw the renewal notice in the trash!
If you are choosing a home warranty company DO NOT choose Nationwide. If I can help anyone, this would be how. They are not a home buyers protection company, and they do not alleviate the burden of warranty issues you are potentially hiring them for. Do you homework and choose one of the top three companies that Nationwide would never be ranked with. You will NOT save money and you will only generate more headaches and stresses in your household by even considering this company. I hope I helped!
Rip Off, Scam, Dishonest, I tried to make 2 claims and they denied them both. They give you the run-a-round, they put you on hold and never pick back up, you call back and they put you on hold again, you ask to speak to a manager and they say there not there today, you ask for a refund and they refuse, once you pay the money, you get nothing for it, and I had to find a contractor that had never heard of them that would even come out to my house because they had been scammed by them before. PLEASE DO NOT use this company, they will take your money, like they took mine…Also, READ any contract before paying, shame on me for trusting them…
If you paid with your credit card you can dispute the charge or file a fraud charge. With a copy of these reviews it should be a “slam dunk”. I saw one positive out of 380 reviews, most of the others used the terms “fraud” and “scam”. It looks like California has banned them. I will work on getting Nevada to do the same. If anyone wants to contact me, my email is bced98@yahoo.com
They denied my claim based on a hypothesis by the technicain, instead of an actual test to determine the problem. If you have an a/c problem, don’t mention freon.
Their customer service is the worst. Prepare to stay on hold forever. They tout their email customer service is fast. Their response is to tell you to call in and wait on hold.
Since belonging to the Military, up to date I have purchased 6 Homes due to the many moves I’ve requried to undertake and with every home I purchase Home Warranties to eliminate the frustration of costly repairs. If I knew then what I know now I would have never carried NationWide as my Home Warranty; this company has by far been the worst ever I have had to deal with. Read this; I purchased my home a bit under a year ago and of course the previous home owner did not leave any maintainenance paper work for the HVAC unit and normally most homeowners do not; however, the home inspector prior to the purcahse of the home conducted a thorough inspection of all items including the HVAC. The HVAC recieved an A++ from the home inspector.
When the circuit board to my HVAC unit burned out it took Nationwide sevral days to contact me just to let me know theat they were unable to find anyone to accept their contract and I wonder why. Keep in mind that during this entire process My family and I are without heat in the month of January into the first week of February 2010; Nationwide Representative requested that I look for a HVAC company for them, what the heck is’nt that their job? or I could cancell the contract and get my last quarter’s payment returned. So I thought to myself what kind of comapny is this that I’m dealing with here. So in-order to try to soeed up teh process I wnet ahead and found a local HVAC company to take on the chore. This is when I found out that the circuit board was bad. to inlighten you there’s no maintainance that can be done to teh circuit board other than looking at it and ensuring that it’s there, so maintenance paperwork wouldn’t have proven a darn thing, this was just a way to find a loop hole in-order so that they would’nt have to pay out. Well sure enough, the reapir would be costly and of course Nationwide asked for maintenance records. I spoke directly to a Nationwide claims manger who did not want to provide me her name nor an extension and I explained to her that records were not available being that I recently purchased the home and the previous home owner did not provide such records; however, I explained that I didi have a home inspection conducted and gave a thorough report of all inspected itemd to include the HVAC system. The manger ststed that she would look at the report and get back to me.
After 3 days the Nationwide manager never called, did I mentioned that we are still out of heat, anyway I called and as some of you may know there wait times are 30 minutes or longer. I finally got through and teh representative told me that the Manager wasn’t in and would leave her a note to contact me. 2 more days past and no call this wenet on for several days until I was finally fed up and demanded to speak to someone on order to resolve the issue. The next day I finall spoke to representative who informed me that the claims department found that the report was insufficient and Nationwide would not pay for my repairs. Of course I was very upset and requested cancellation of my contract and to add insult to injury the represetative ststed that I could’nt since I just entered a new contract. I stated that I never received notification for continuance and wanted them to provided me proof of signature where I agrred to such contract continuation. I ended up speaking to someone in the contract division who told me that under my special circumstance they would cancel my contract. I also asked that I get a refund for my last quarter which was previously offered due to their inability of finding a HVAC contractor, but of course the representative sataed that a refund would be impossible.
Hopefully you have taken the time to read my horrifing expierience with Nationwide Warranty. I truly believe that word of mouth is the strongest consumer tool available. DO NOT USE THI WARRANTY COMPANY and pass word !!!
I wish we would have checked the BBB before buying… after our most recent claim, finally checked it – they’re rated an “F” (on an A-F rating)! Terrible, terrible, terrible!!! I just want out!
This is the worst warranty company I’ve ever dealt with. They cancelled all of my claims. Please cancel your credit or they will re-new your contract without your approval. This happened to new last year.
Do not buy a home warranty with Nationwide Home Warranty. They would not do any thing for you. They will re-new your contract without your approval.. Make sure cancel your credit that you provided to them.
My heat went out on a Friday night. I tried to make a claim to the “24/7″, got a recording stating call back during business hours and place claim on nationwide website. Went to the website and there is no place to place a claim on the site. Call a different number listed on webpage, and got the same voice recording, later found out claims had to be email. Office close on weekend, we had record low temps 40-25 degrees. Call monday morning was on hold for over 20 minutes, giving me the run around, issue still has not been resolved
The sales people did a great job “selling” me on their company but they fell very short of their claims. When my washer broke down they were very slow to answer my call and when I called back a few days later they “had no record of my claim”. I put in a new claim and they promised to get back to me withing 48 hours. I waited 7 days and called back to complain and they told me a “manager” would call me back. No one did. I called again a week later (by then I had the repair done on my own dime) to see if I could actually get a “manager” to call me back. They apologized profusely and told me that a manager would call me back. I asked when, and they could not give me an estimate. In the end, they never did call back and I feel I’ve been ripped off. I wish I’d checked their reviews before buying. It’s all here in black and white. Avoid these people like the plague unless you enjoy being ingnored and throwing your money away. If I could give a score of zero, I would have.
Worst company, I can’t wait that my first year contract done.
No customer service at all, don’t expect they will repair any thing. Very regret to purchase the home warranty with this company and need to suffer for the whole year.
