Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights
Note: This company may have sold warranties using the brand name Champion Home Warranty

I had a home owner warranty policy with Nationwide also.
in 2009 our garbage disposal went out and we called to make a claim. They sent a plumber a week later and the technician working and seams like he already told by nation wide what to do. He looks the damage item for only 1 minutes and he make call and he took his copay check and told me that Nationwide won’t pay for it and he offered me to replace for me for $295.00 I told him to get the hell out of my house.
We have a second claim again with nationwide again and they denied us service that we supposed to cover for.
The policy’s paper we had received from nationwide specify claerly what we cover for but when filed a claim we would end up copay with no service .
Stay far far away!
Has anyone started a class action lawsuit yet? If so, I’m in! I tried to call them to file on June 28th but it said I had to send an e-mail. We had no water and I needed someone to check our well pump. I called back the next day and was told they had received my e-mail but had cancelled our policy a month before because they had no service people in the Dallas area and they said they sent me an e-mail (which I never received. Nor did I receive anything in the mail or a phone call stating this). They said they were issuing a refund which I have yet to receive and I paid them over $500 for nothing. I tried to call again today and all the phone numbers have been disconnected. I’ll call the Attorney General of Texas and New York and see what happens.
DON’T BUY THIS SO CALLED INSURANCE!
After trying to submit a claim I was told my Warranty had been dropped months earlier. Was told I would get a refund. That was months ago. None of their published phone numbers work. They are scammers
Stopped servicing NV in May. Did not let me know. Can’t get my refund back since May. They owe me $343.33
I contacted the BBB they are not responding to them. I am in touch with Dept.of Consumer Affairs, and the Attny General for help.
THIS IS A SCAM. I HAVE LOST 1500 DOLLAR BUYING A 5 YEAR WARRANTY FROM THEM
Won’t return calls. This company has my money , but I’m wondering if they are still in business. Reported then to State of New York Insurance Dept. Nationwide gave this dept a nonworking phone number. My next action will be to contact the state of Florida Insurance Dept. These people are a scam and need to be shut down. They are still selling on the website.
My warranty is about to end so I decided to call nationwide to get someone to check my ac because my house was not cooling off like it should. The numbers I called are diconnected and the number on the web site only allows you to send an email. After reading these reviews, I guess I got stagg too! I have learn my lesson. Do major insurances for houses, cars or etc….face to face in an office and not over the internet. It’s so easy to become a prey to scams. So for important issues, I will be doing it in person in my home area and not online anymore!
Paid for a contract then found out they no longer service NC. Customer service stated they sent out an email which was not received. I requested they send another email, letter and refund. A letter, email or refund has not been received and it’s over 30 days. If you are reading this, tell them to call you back then ignore them. Service was also very bad ie. calls were not returned and they are slow to respond. This is the worst of all companies out there.
Please do not buy this warranty. It is a sham. They do not exist.
I contacted this company in April about my garage door opener. Filed a claim. They sent me a claim # and a phone # to a door company to do the work. Turned out that company refused to handle it bec of no contract with N’wide. I called them back, got new company to contact , they came out, charged me $45.00 ded and tried to file a claim to fix it with N’wide. No answer from them. So I called N’wide, over and over, no response…Finally a man called me and said they no longer service Texas area, they would be refunding me $145 bec of the cancellation and a $100. for the claim…. OK….so I wait and wait…nothing…
Then I tried to call and email…no answers on the emails and the phone # is no loinger in service… I have called every # I can find trying to get someone !!
This company is evidently out of business and a scam to boot. After reading all these reviews, I am convinced we got “took” to the cleaners…
I will be contacting the NY Dept of Insurance/Fraud division and the BB of NY and of my city as well. I am sure I will not see my money but I want to make sure no one else has this same experience….
Buyers beware !!!!
Biggest rip offs in home warrenty. Very rude customer service, and lack of professionalism. They breached the contract.
I agree with all of the negativity on here. We were a plumber contractor for them and we still have yet to be paid on jobs that were done at the beggining of Jan. We call and they say payment is in process well they still say that and its 7 months later. We refused to do anymore work for them.
I too had nationwide homewarranty and i was suppose to be getting a claim check and it was suppose to be mailed in may when i called i was told twice it was mailed but yet i still have not received it and i have tried to call and email for the last two weeks and nothing from them, as of last week the other numbers had worked and then all the sudden this week only one number works and it goes to a voice mail and says to email i emailed 4 times and nothing. So if any of you need help with your suits/cases or find them i am willing to help i am upset I was suppose to get my check over a month ago and nothing and everytime i called before i was told it was mailed and now nothing you cant even get a person on the phone….Dont use them and beware i have heard they open numerous companys as before this it was a mutal warranty company and then one or two other names before it turned into nationwide and so they prob. have moved on to another company name and are scaming more people as we talk
Filed pool claim last fall. They refused to pay even though they authorized the repair. After nine months of hell with this company, and filing a complaint with AZ Dept of Insurance, I received a “settlement” check in May. Check bounced so I faxed New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo. I received a call the next morning from Nationwide that my credit card was credited for the bounced check. The credit card was a debit card that was canceled. Somehow they pushed it through my bank. OK, so that’s settled even though they have no authorization to access my checking account. On July 6th, they double deducted the amount they paid me. I just came from my bank and they said Nationwide somehow…they do not know how…got access to my checking account and made withdrawals. They are now filing a complaint. We tried to call Nationwide @ 718/943-6920 (voice) and 718/943-6924 (fax) and both numbers are disconnected. Physical address I found online is in Brooklyn, not Church St in Manhattan. Crooks; they should be locked up and made to lick the prison floor clean for life.
AWEFUL!! They’ve rejected my claims then refused to respond to any of my many emails. Forget trying to reach them by phone. They’re a complete RIP OFF. I’m still trying to get my money back. I’m in the process of filing a formal law suit against them. They’re BOGUS!!! Stay away.
I DO NOT recommend this comapny to anyone. I purchased a warnty in Sep 09. I contacted the company for a refrigerator problem in May 2010. I waited over an hour and still wasn’t able to speak to anyone. Finally, I sent an email to the company with no return reply or acknowledgement. We had to buy a refrigerator before the new tenant moved in . This was an additional $420 bill. While vacationing in DC, the tenant called to say there was a plumbing issue. We called Nationwide, was put on hold for about 30 minutes. When I talked to the representative, I was told we no longer had coverage in our area as of 18 May. I was also told I was sent an email with this information. I am still waiting on the email and my refund. I called back the first week in July and was told the amount due would be placed on my card. I called again today July 12, 2010 and got a recording to send inquiries to the info email…no luck. We now have a reputable company (American Home Shield). I have learned to stick with what I know. It is a shame that cnsumers must go through situations such as this. My prayer is that the Administration will make companies such as these pay back what is due to consumers who work for their hard earned money just to be swindled by a company such as this!
I will stick with Old Republic or American Home Shield regardless of the price. At least you get a live representative and efficient service!
Called 4 times average hold time 12-15 minutes never answered. Have 2 properties with this company. Phone message for faster service email problem, 4 emails no answer. AC out for 1 day temp 92+ never called back or responded to email. Voice message you are first in line still no answer. Had to get service on my own. Sent complaint to Better Business Bureau in New York where they
are located, pages of complaints unresloved. Never licensed in Florida to sell in the first place, Florida issued cease and desist against them several claims from customers unresolved.
I am NOT happy with the customer service or repair service that Nationwide says they offer. It took them 2 weeks to get someone out to fix my clothes washer. I should have been refunded the co-pay because of this. Trying to reach a live person is extremely difficult and then they will not give you a supervisor to talk to. I left several messages and emails and no response from a supervisor to talk about the service I was provided. Looking to get my money back from this company.
my policy was cx cause they decided as of may the 18th 2010 they would not service my area anymore. i got no notice. its benn 30 days i still havent gotten my refund and i still can get anyone on the line to talk to them. none of my emails have been answered. i wouldnt recamend this company to anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This company will fail to let you know when they do not service your area but will continue to take your money; and will only offer you a prorated portion of your money back.Plus contact number are know good and they do not follow back up with you when you leave a message. buyer be ware
DO NOT USE THIS WARRANTY COMPANY. I think they are going bankrupt. Of course like everybody else I wanted to file a claim with them but they sent me an email stating they no longer cover my area. Now I am looking for a new warranty company.
I have been paying them monthly payments for the past eight months! My contract was for a year, and they sent me an email saying they were no longer offering services in my area! As far as I know they cant just say that they aren’t in a contract with you anymore! I have not made any claims, so I want my money back! I have basically just been giving them money for nothing in return! I feel scammed! But you cant get the people on the phone and they dont return emails! This is a FRAUD! Don’t purchase anything from these people!
I would NEVER EVER EVER EVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS company!! I have yet to get my Washer repaired or replaced. They don’t even call me back or send a repairman out or cover what I paid for!! This has been going on since June 9th!!!
Money down the drain for the second year!!!! For the money that I paid for coverage, I could have purchased three new washing machines!!!
I WOULD NOT TRUST ANY REVIEWS ON THEIR WEBSITE FOR THIS COMPANY!!! You should trust only the ones on this site!!!
I have been with this company for two years. Filed a claim in April for my hot water heater, which was denied. I didn’t agree, paid out of pocket. Currently my air conditioner needs service as of last night and in trying to get them and the 800 number is no longer operational; the local listing goes directly to a voice mail that directed me to email them due to them experience a high volume of calls and all the reps are busy and will call back; no response so far. I believe this is not a reputable company as has been stated. My contract expires in September, but it appears that point is settled. I do not suggest doing business with this company.
