Nationwide Home Warranty
Home Warranty Plan Details and Reviews for Nationwide Home Warranty
Coverage Area: USA - All States
| Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights

Worst company, I can’t wait that my first year contract done.
No customer service at all, don’t expect they will repair any thing. Very regret to purchase the home warranty with this company and need to suffer for the whole year.
NEVER, NEVER, use this company. there are so many fine prints to their contract it is unbelievable. Had a hot water heater leak into my carpeted basement, and they wouldn’t cover it because I didn’t have routine maintanence done on it. And then, they wouldn’t give my money back or cancel the contract after only being in the contract 6 months. DON’T USE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HORRIBLE COMPANY. CONTRACT SAYS YOU CAN REQUEST SERVICE 24/7. COMPANY IS ONLY REACHABLE BY PHONE, IF AT ALL, MONDAY TO FRIDAY, REGULAR BUSINESS HOURS. TECHS CAN’T GET AUTHORIZATION TO DO REPAIR BECAUSE THEY ARE CLOSED!!! WILL NOT RENEW, AND WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THEM.
On Thanksgiving our Furnace went out, we were told someone would contact us immediately. Two days later, still no contact at all. NWHW told us that they had changed processes and we needed to sign a new agreement contract to prove that we had actually had a contract with them.
I asked, ‘am I in the system’ they said ‘Yes’. Ok ‘are you taking money out of my account each month’ ‘Yes’. Have you sent someone out to do work this year? ‘Yes’. Ok then I have a contract I need to sign nothing else. Instead they said they wouldn’t dispatch anyone till my wife signed and faxed back a copy of the original contract we had already signed.
This went on for 5 days as we told them we had our 3 month old grandbaby in the cold house and were now having to send my family elsewhere due to the cold. They said I could pay out of pocket and MAYBE they would reemburse us after they reviewed the claim and had signed the agreement again.
On Nov 30th I faxed them a formal letter saying I was not renewing my contract (This was 31 days before the contract was to renew so I was still within cancelation time). They said ok. This month they have taken out TWO payments. One on Jan 4th and one Yesterday Jan 31st!
I called them and they said it hadn’t been canceled because the fax was garbled. I said that was immpossible because it was a WORD doc and sent to TWO different fax numbers. They said it is cancled now and they will refund my money in 21 business days.
I have filed a formal complaint with the BBB in NYC and I suggest all of you do the same.
I have just had my fifth repair request denied from Nationwide Home Warranty and I am now filing a class action suit against this company. PLEASE, send me your name, address and phone number so that my lawyer may contact you and add your name to the suit.
This company needs to be put out of business.
The service man that came to my home yesterday told me that NO ONE has to pay their service call bill because it is in THEIR contract with Nationwide that NATIONWIDE will have to pay them if the customer does not.
So start calling them for every little item in your home and don’t pay the service man…it is our way of getting NATIONWIDE to pay SOMEONE.
My name is Jane and you can contact me at jenkae2@msn.com
Together we can WIN.
Thank you.
I’ve had 2 service people out to fix my heat – starting Nov 09- the first man said that the furance is supposed to run for 2 minutes and then shut off – the 2nd said – no that isn’t right – but can’t figure out how to fix it.I’m afraid that I’ve been duped -though American Home Shield didn’t seem any better.
PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT USE!!!!! VERY POOR COMPANY TO DEAL WITH!!!! I purchased 5 contracts for 5 different properties and put in one claim for my dishwasher. Got a complete run around, customer service not knowledgeable, was on hold for supervisors twice for 30 minutes each time and they hung up on me. 10 days later and my dishwasher is still not working. Don’t know what to do!!!!!! I hope I save you a lot of aggravation. CHOOSE another company……..
I purchased my warranty March 2009. Today, in mid January 2010 I called in my first claim. First – they are slow to fax the request to the service provider. Finally, after a day, the service provider got it. My appointment was the following day at 8 a.m. After he got here and found the problem, tried to call Nationwide and they were not open until 10:30 a.m. our time. He rescheduled for later in the afternoon so I would not miss a whole day of work. I had a stoppage in my bathroom sink pipe. After the service person called in to them, they denied the claim, saying that it was caused by rust and corrosion (imagine that!) I called Nationwide about the claim twice and got the same answer. I asked to speak with a manager and all she could do was give me an e-mail address to cancel the policy. I told her that it was my first claim and I wanted a full refund, since I thought it was rediculous that they denied the claim. I had to pay the service person $240, and he still could not complete the job. I have to get a new sink because something would not fit snug enough (a slight crack). I am still without a bathroom sink to use, and only have one bathroom in my house! I will mention also that the service person was very nice and genuine and said that in his experience, Nationwide denies almost every claim. I will not renew with them ever again!!!
Called For a sump pump to be fixed on 11/27/09. The dispatched a company C&F to come and fix it. He called back on late fri to ask how bad was it. I told him not to bad the table was low but it was going to rain for the next two days. He finally came on monday after noon and the water table had about two more inches till it was in my basesment. He came in so the problem then went out to the truck to report it to nation wide. He came back and said the claim was denied. I said impossiple. I then called to ask for the reasoning they said that he said that there was rust. I then made them repeat it and put them on the speaker so the gentalman could hear. He then took the phone and told them he did not say ththat he said the well was rusted that the pump died from normal ware and tare. They then said that the claim was denied because what was said was said prior and once a clame is denied you can not un deny it(if that is a word). I then got back on the phone with them and told them that the table was very high and it needed to get done. They then told me that it was denied and that I have to pay him $50.00 for comming out there. I said, you have to be kidding me ( that is the clean version). You are telling me that this guy was here for 3 minutes left made a phone call came back in and you denyied a claim that you should cover. At this point I new what part of the contract it was because they kept saying 9.1, 9.1. I went in to get the contract and as I was comming out the gentalman from C&F was comming out to. I read what 9.1 said and it says rust or corrosion on the appliance. There was none I stated, I told them that the well was rusted about 4 inches up from the bottom but that is were the water sits before the pump comes on. At this point C&F came out to tell them that the sump pump was from a hard platic material that it was impossible to be rusted or corroded. They still said denied. I still have the sump pump in my basement as evidence. So my policy cost $379.00 then I had to buy the parts that day from C&F wich cost me $200.00. So I am out $579.00 because of this company. This is a true and factual problem. This place is the worst customer service, they are con artistest. I have writen letters to the BBB. I have called channel 7 on your side. I have emailed Glenn Beck, Bill O’riely I have writen a letter to the star ledger for some one to help me to get my money back. This is a lot of money that was out of pocket. Maybe it was my own dumb fault for not going to one of these web sites first before I gave them my money but it does not give them the right to rip us off. I am a hard working individual with a wife and baby trying to make it every week and we do not need people stealing money from us. Please learn from us Do not go with this company. i even had the same expieriance with AHS. If some one knows how or if we take all these complaints and come together and sew or something to get all of our money back. I thought it would feel better to see that I was not alone but it even hurts more to see all the other people that they are getting away with this. WE SHOULD ALL STICK TOGETHER AND GET OUR MONEY BACK. In these tough times $579.00 is alot of money and it can put a lot of diapers on my little one. BUYER BE AWARE DO NOT BECOME A VICTEM LIKE ME PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.
Not a good company! Although I have had decent service from the technicians, they debited my account without warning for another year’s service, and their rude-ass manager screamed at me, saying “you’re NOT going to get your money back!” Because I didn’t have legal recourse, I had to just take it! I felt so violated…I felt robbed! If you want control over when you pay a company, DON’T do business with this company!!!!
DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!!!! I have always been a firm believer in home warranty companies. I switched over to Nationwide because it was a little cheaper. I have had nothing but problems!!!! They have denied every claim that I have submitted. I would ask them to explain why a claim is denied and I can never get a direct response. My story is the same as teh rest no need to go into specifics……This company is a SCAM!!! I will never use a homewarranty company again!!!!!!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!!
This business should be SHUT DOWN!!!! My heating system needed a blower motor and after finally getting a technician to respond through a lot of calling back to Nat. H. Warr., they would not approve the installation. The home has been without heat for a week and they still have not responded to numerous calls from both the contractor and myself. On one call they lied and told me that the contractor did not have the parts for the job, thus offering me a “cash settlement” of $200. I did not want a settlement of half of what the parts cost! Also, I knew the contractor DID have the parts ready to go but Nationwide would not approve the work. When I called Nat. HW back to question the misinformation, they said I had to make another claim because they offered me a “cash settlement” and now I needed to start over again and pay another co-pay and get another technician to come out. How dishonest is this??? They never solved the original claim and they are scamming for more money from me? I have had this warrenty for almost a year and used it twice ( with much stress involved). Please, DO NOT waste money, time on this company. Additionally, the customer service is TERRIBLE! The reps. are rude, place your on hold for long periods of time without explantion, hang up on you and more.
I have turned this company into the Department of Justice. I hope others that have been wronged will do the same.
mine just like yours, HORRIBLE,COMPANY ! COMPLETE SCAM!! will never deal with them again! if I can be of any help to others, please e- mail me ! roserocco@msn.com will do my research next time !!
Horrible company to do business with. Had a leak under my bathtub. Turns out that the roman tub faucet had a leak in one of the pipes and needed to be replaced. Cost to fix was $500-600. Nationwide claimed that the contractor told them that it was due to rust and corrosion which, under the contract, is not covered. However, they were offering a settlement of $250. Kind of weird. It is not covered but they are offering a settlement. I called the contractor and he advised me that he never told them that. Called Nationwide again and told them thier report was wrong. I was informed that once the initial report is made it can never be changed even if it is WRONG! Unbelieveable. One supervisor I talked to tried to tell me that if my pipe leak was not due to rust and corrosion that I must have messed with the pipe to make the leak myself! She said either way that they didn’t have to pay yet they were still offering a cash settlement of $250 basically out of the kindness of their hearts. Went round and round and nothing happended. Impossible to get a call back from them. Horrible customer service. Don’t ever do business with them. I can’t believe this scam hasn’t been shut down yet.
Poor customer service. Claims never returns calls. I had to go through the sales department to get action from the claims department and when I was able to get to the claims rep she gave me attitude. I’m going to cancel my policy and go to another company.
THIS COMPANY IS WAY BELOW STANDARDS, MADE PURCHASE OF HOME WARRANTY AND TRY TO CANX, BUT THE SALE ASSOCIATE DAN, SAID GIVE US A CHANCE WE ARE UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT. WRONG MOVE ON MY BEHALF. I HAVE BEEN WAITING 4 DAYS FOR HEAT IN MY HOME OR A SERVICE CONTRACTOR TO COME AND SERVICE IT. I ALSO PUT IN A COMPLAINT TO THE BBB AND WONT EVER DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY FOR ANYTHING. DATED ON 02 JAN 2010 STILL AWAITING ACTION FOR SERVICE.
Service was not suitable . did not conduct business as it should have been ,was left to find my on person to do my repair and was told that they woukd email me permisision to find a contractor which i never received It took 2 weeks and and noone ever contactd me
Been a customer for one year.
Today tried to make my 1st claim.
They would not send anyone until “the contract was signed.”
They wanted my signature to give them consent to bill me.
When I asked why they HAVE been billing me, they couldn’t answer and the RUDE supervisor hung up on me!
I called Sales Dept. and he says they will send someone to repair my heater.
Meanwhile, I am home sick freeezing and still haven’t heard from the contractor.
BUYER BEWARE.
This is not a company sain people should deal with. They denied a claim on a dishwasher repair 60 days after purchasing the policy. I was told the contractor claimed it was a pre-existing condition. After talking to the contractor directly, he stated that it could not be a pre-existing condition and could not tell if it was anyway. I called Nationwide back to inform them that a mistake may have been done and they stated that it doesn’t matter they will not change the denial on the claim. “Once denied they never change it”. That is quite a sham. It doesn’t matter if your right and their wrong they just want your $400.00 and will never fix anything. Stay away. By the way I don’t think that James Craig, company president even exists. I have spoken to many people including Christina Brown, “Office Manager” and Shanan Spencer “Claims Manager”
who did not help me or attempt to help me in anyway.
I can’t see how overall they got a 2 rating and nobody has given them above a 1. It’s 2010 and their story hasn’t changed and it never will. Do not buy their policy no matter how good their advertising is. They do not fix a thing. They just line their own pockets. It’s the greatest form of PONZI scheme out there. Take in all the money they can and make NO payouts.

My experience is same as all of you. They did not send contract agreement. They did not want to fix, instead wanted to settle that was not an acceptable amount. They said 1st call was free and did not honor that too. Stay away from this company ‘Nationwide Home Warranty’. Dont waste your hard earned money to this crooks.
THE COMPANY WAS IM POSSIBLE TO DEAL WITH. OUR OVEN WOULD NOT WORK THEY SENT A COMPANY THAT WAS NOT ABLE TO FIX IT PROPERLY . REPAIR COST WAS $875 AND THEY OFFERED TO PAY $300 SINCE THAY SAID WE HAD NO REPAIR RECORDS BUT OVEN HAD BEEN WORKING FINE FOR THE PAST 9 YEARS.
I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS CO!
This is the worst warranty company I’ve ever dealt with. After dealing with them just one time I said forget it and cancelled my warranty. Haven’t heard from them again. Thank GOD!! We should all call the better business bureau.
