Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights
Note: This company may have sold warranties using the brand name Champion Home Warranty

Used to have a home warranty with BFS. They were great but getting too expensive so I went with Nationwide. Rude, unprofessional, liars! I had problems with my A/C. They said I needed maintenance records. I sent those for the past 3 years. They never called back. When I called them, they said the receipts looked fake!! It was from a bonded and licensed contractor. They wouldn’t call the maintenance company to confirm. I ended up spending $8,000 on new units. What a waste of money.
Now I see there are numerous complaints and lawsuits against this company.
This company does not honor requests to cancel within the 3-day cancellation period. Be prepared to fight for your money. Better yet, do not give them your hard-earned money in the first place. Keep everything documented and have a paper trail. They will lie to the credit card company when you file a dispute for the charge and say you never cancelled. You will need documentation of some sort to prove your case. Document any and all contact with this company for your own protection. Request that an email verification of your cancellation be sent to you. You may want to stay on the phone with them until you actually see it in your inbox. Otherwise it, like your refund, will never materialize… even though it is promised “in a few days” every time you call. Never leave a message, the phone calls are never returned.
I will be filing a complaint with the Attorney General’s Office of Arizona. They should not be allowed to prey on Arizona homeowners any longer. Protect yourself and spread the word… Find a different company! This one is incredibly unethical.
Stay away from Nationwide Homewarranty !!!!!
Customer service is extremely hard to reach. 5-10 min wait is minimum. Sometimes they will not pickup at all. If you need emergency repair Nationwide is not the company.
I called in for a garage door repair service which was stuck open. Nationwide dropped the ball and never schedule the request. I ended up fixing it out of pocket.
Customer service was quite rude and not helpful at all.
I have had 3 claims with this company never paid anything on any of the 3 claims. Not enough time to write all the conversations I have had with these people. However if anyone reads this review please cancel your policy immediatly the are horrible, I even wonder if they are really a company or just have someone sitting somewhere answering the phone, 2 weeks one time 3 weeks another time with out an aircondition in Mississippi in the summer their respone go stay in a hotel or with an neighbor if you are hot. HUNG UP NEVER saying good bye. Please cancel your policy because they will not pay not even send someone out to even help for 2-3 weeks.
If you think that when you write on here they are hearing your complaints they don’t!! they hope you vent and never do anything. Go to the News,Twitter, Facebook. let the world know!!! Call all lawyer get all together!!!! *****THIS IS NATIONWIDE HOMEWARRANTY*** THEY ARE NOT ON YOUR SIDE
Hello, I am not a memeber but my sister is. She has had nothing but trouble. Has asked to speak to someone hire than a supervisor the reply is their is no one. it has been 3 months. she has now written letters to you. I have even been on three way with her to listen at the way she is treated. I went to work and email blasted my whole company never to use you after hearing what was said and how she was treated.
I had Old Republic Home Warranty before I switched (better price) Wish I had stayed with them. Nationwide has HORRIBLE SERVICE, LONG ON HOLD TIME WITH CLAIMS, Here is the lowdown. I had a house with NO AC..out for almost 2 weeks. I called, my tennant called, for example stayed on hold for a minimum of 30 minutes..lonest because I HUNG UP was 55 minuted. Talked to 8 people within a week trying to get this taken care of. I ended up calling the contractor myself to set up installation. Dont know if I am going to get my half of the repairs refunded to me (will update ya on this phase) my contractor said use Fidelity Home Warranty, best he has seen and he loves working for them. Pretty damn bad when the contractor says not to use them. When my 2 houses expire will hope and pray Nationwide Home Warranty expires. Will NEVER EVER recomment this company to anyone. Unless you love to endure and have time on your hands to be on the phone. BEWARE STAY AWAY
This company is nothing but a big scam. They have no intentions on fixing anything and should be put out of business
I’ve given a poor rating only because there is no option for pathetic. This was my first claim. Communication is a a major problem. Each time I’ve called to check on the status of my claim I’m promised someone will get back to me but the don’t. I’ve had to call again and again, once I was told I’d get a return call within an hour yet 24 hours passed and nothing. Another time after asking for a supervisor I was told they’d have one call me back failing to mention there were no supervisors available until the next day, still no supervisor called. I’ve left e-mails, no reponse. Each time I’ve called and actually spoke to a seemingly live person has been like talking to a shy pre-schooler, they mostly respond to yes or no questions. When a repair person finally responded, they couldn’t complete the repair because they needed to get approval from Nationwide, again I’ve had to wait and follow up myself since no was calling me. The gal at the repair shop said she gave up being on hold with Nationwide while trying to get approval for the repair and just didn’t bother anymore.. huh? apparently this sub-contractor follows the same hiring requirements for their phone clerks; density. My problem still is not fixed, if they could simply tell me where I stand I wouldn’t be so aggravated.
Has anyone considered a class action suit? We purchased 2 policies this year on 2 different properties and when we had a claim at either of them it is always the same.. they promise to dispatch the claim to a repair company and that someone will contact us in 24 to 48 hours and of course this never happens. After 48 hours when we called to inquire about the claim they promised to have someone call us in 24 to 48 hours again. When my wife pointed out to them that this was poor customer service the customer service rep laughed at her and put her on hold for over an hour before the call was dropped. We have spent over 4 hours on hold trying to get a status on just one of the claims never even getting to a real person; when they sent us a user name and password to process and track our claim online the password that THEY provided was invalid and of course now no one with Nationwide will answer the phone to either respond to the claim or to help us with the login problem. In this economy service like this and companies that deal in dishonesty and a complete disregard for customers deserve to be driven into bankruptcy. I have also been told that small claims law suits against Nationwide have a pretty good chance of winning. This company isn’t even allowed to operate in California and is being investigated by a growing number of states. That doesn’t happen to competent, honest companies.

Home Warranty Group / http://www.homewarrantygroup.com is a scam. This is a home warranty scam.
Because of this website, I did not use American Home Shield or National Home Protection. I found Home Warranty Group on the internet and they sounded pretty good as a start-up company.
I entered my information to get a quote, and found out that you need to wait for them to call you to get your quote. They made it seem that my quote would come immediately. That was problem number 1.
Next, I get a call from a gentlemen, definately using a fake voice, offering to give me a quote. At first, he seemed very helpful, but then as his fake voice kept going in and out, he started talking to someone else in his office, cussing, laughing, and making jokes. Anyway, I asked how long they were in business he said something like 8 years, so I asked if I could read some info on their website and he said, oh the website is still under contstruction??? I said for 8 years???? he laughed and said you know how hard it is to get good technicians. Anyway this was the biggest joke I ever heard, and I need to warn everyone about the http://www.homewarrantygroup.com scam.
I did a who is lookup on the internet and it seems this brooklyn company is owned by Alberto Benamu. I did a little digging into Alberto Benamu and it seems he used to work for a company called Wextrust Capital which was accused of fraud. Read the article in the New York Times Here — http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/12/business/12wextrust.html
Also it seems that this website was just registered on 4/21/2009 so they have only been in business for less than 6 months. (picture of the whois lookup attached)
Stay away from the home warranty group scam.
I reported them to the better business bureau and hope that everyone can find this post and not make the mistake of purchasing from them.
After having the warranty a few months, during which they denied coverage on my refrigerator that had stopped cooling, they sent me an email telling me that they will no longer be offering me coverage because they aren’t servicing my area any more. This company is a scam, do not get sucked in. I thought AHS was bad so I switched, but Nationwide is WORSE!
Took contract in January 2009. First claim for washing machine leak was satisfactorily resolved but problem getting response from online claim. Had to call after two days.
Second claim – similar problem with online claim not responded to. Took more than two weeks of calls and drop calls before repair man came only to be told that item wasn’t covered. This turned out to be true but NHW should have advised at time of claim. Had to pay service call. Complained and was promised a credit on next claim.
Third claim – checked that item was covered and again no response from onloin claim. Numerous calls and eventually after a week service man came. When he called in for authorisation he was told to hold service. I had to call NHW to find out they were holding for maintenance records. I argued with them (when I eventually got through) and told them I was dissatisfied with the service I was getting and wanted to terminate my contract. I was told I couldn’t. I asked unsuccessfully to talk with a manager. At this point I decided to give up and go back to American Homeshield who I had only good experience with (four years and about five claims). I changed because NHW were cheaper and covered more appliances. Now I know why.
Anyway before I could do this my washing machine started to leak again so I thought as I was still paying and the last time it happened at least I got the problem fixed so I put in a claim to NHW.
Wrong – this time still no response from online. Called after 72 hours but couldn’t get through so sent e mail. No response so called after another 48 hours and was told tht claim had gone in but nobody had contacted me. They said they would put it in again and gave me company phone number. After 24 hours still no contact so called company who hadn’t received the call and didn’t even servuce my area.Called NHW again and they said they were waiting for a report from the repair company. I told them company had not even visited and asked to speak with a manager. I was told there was not one on duty (at 6pm eastern). I told the agent what a terrible company he worked for and said I would call for mnager in the morning.
This is a terriblke company and I can’t believe they can remain in business operating like this. What can be done to get them to either shape up or get out of business.
There must be a way of getting out of the contract but how?
Please someone help.
I had a burst pipe and called in the claim. It has been two days and no one called me back. When I called today each of the three people I spoke to were incredibly rude. Each person gave me a completely different story. The supervisor told me that the claim was pending because I never signed the contract. I indicated that no one else had told me this–I was told I would be called within 24 hours. Meanwhile, I had to call a plumber and get it fixed. I asked for a refund based on the fact that I never signed a contract. I was told flat out NOOO! When I asked to speak to someone else the manager gave me an info email address.
If had other warranties but these folks are unreal. DO NOT USE NATIONWIDE HOME WARRANTY–A COMPLETE SCAM!!!
Do not sign up with company. Horrible!!!
Took several weeks to get someone when heat was not working. When someone finally came and it was the thermostat that was not working, they would not cover it because I did not have bills for maintainance on the boiler. What that has to do with the thermostat I have no idea. Another time I called and the only appointment I could get was a Friday around 2:00PM when they came and told them about the pilot light being out on the oven, I was told I would have to wait until Monday for them to get approval and then they could back to me and make an appointment. I could not wait any longer, I was having company and was without an over for about a week already. I paid to get it fixed and would not be reimbursed.
Unfortunately I referred my daughter to this company and her experience is the same nightmare.
What a shame….I know I have been ripped off and fell like I have no recourse. I even called my bank to stop payment on the last payment to Nationwide and they said they could not stop it ….it is illegal. What about what is illegal for the consumer. I never got anywhere with Nationwide…I have been on the phone all day…they made up an amount for me to cancel the transaction and came up with all kinds of excuses as to why my claim could not even be processed.
I cant believe they are in business with over 250 complaints obn this website and the fact they can not sell home warranties in California. Yeah… were was this page when I needed it.
This company is a scam. They to not stand behind their word. Not only did they fail to repair my unit that was covered under the warranty they also would not cancell my policy which I was told it can be cancelled any time and prorated if I wish.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. I am taking them to small claims court.
We have paid into this company for two years every month and now that we need them to cover a listed part of our air conditioner they won’t cover it without a copy of a proof we have maintained it in the last year. We live in Arizona and this is August. We have not had Air Conditioning for 3 days and they said if we find the company that serviced it and fax it to them it will take another 3 to 4 days to process. They sent out one of their air conditioning reps two days ago and he said our air conditioning unit looks like it has been maintained and the part that needs replacement was just normal wear and tear in a ten year old unit. This company kept him on hold for over 1 1/2 hours to try to get approval to put the part in and they denied approval until we show them a copy of the receipt that it has been serviced. We have been on hold trying to talk to someone for over 4 hour at separate times getting no where. This is the worst customer service I have ever delt with and we can’t wait to end service with them. It makes me very sad to have paid into a company for 2 year thinking we had piece of mind if something were to break down. In Arizona your air conditioning is very important for piece of mind. We are extreemly disappointed and will definately tell all our friends and neighbors to be aware!
This company sucks!
Nationwide was notified that freezer was not cooling properly. After 3 days a repair person was sent out. The repair person inspected and stated the freezer was low on freon and the evaporator had a restriction and needed replaced. Nationwide stated a I needed a professional maint log on the appliance and would not repair the item after paying for 12 months for the contract. This company is a rip off and their customer service takes more than 15 minutes to answer the phone. Stay away from this company!!!!
Too much brain damage to describe. Not worth the time or money to deal with these people. Rude & unprofessional. What happen to the customer is always right???
The worst company, customer service and workmanship I have ever seen. My contract runs out in May 2010. I tell everyone I know, “Do not do anything with this company”. I put a claim in the middle of June 2009. They didn’t respond until several days later. The plumber or so called, did a half way job on the leak under my kitchen sink. After the 30 day mark, we noticed a bad odor in the kitchen from under the sink. The leak had started again and appeared to have been dripping for some time, spilling out old garbage from the sink causing not only a foul odor but delamination of the plywood. I Nationwide’s customer service who told me they couldn’t do anything since it was over 30 days. I talked to their supervisor or so they told me. Again, nothing could be done. So now I have called again to get the leak fixed. Again, I will have to pay another $60. By this time, I could have gotten a licensed plumber and been done with it.

Don’t even go near to these people. They are bunch of thieves sitting in the office and stealing our money. I took 3 years contract, their sales rep (Alen Brayn) gives very nice markating speach (Don’t fall for it).
Two months ago, I called them for Ovan problem, They sent a guy and he needed Nationwide people authorization to fix the issue. Nationwide people did not authorize because the expense was more than $100. They started asking me for maintenance records which I don’t have one. (I would surprise if any household does periodic maintenace for their electronics and keeping the records though!).
Then I asked them to cancel my contract about 2 months ago and refund my money. I yet to receive the refund.
I am planning to sue them and report to State and Federal attorney.
Beware of this company. Your claims will be delayed then denied. You will be put on hold and hung up on if you try to check on a claim that they don’t want to pay which is practically all of them. They don’t pay their contractors and some of their contractors are plain corrupt or incompetent (I just saved over $1500 by going with a different contractor than the one they chose due to misdiagnosis). They will not let you cancel but they will automatically renew you. You have been warned.
