| Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights
Note: This company may have sold warranties using the brand name Champion Home Warranty

i just got this one year service plan i think this was a big mistake i ever made. if you think you will get a service from contractor thru this company.do’nt even think so,i have been dealing with co.for two weeks and nothing has been done.feel free to email me|||
Just another bad review for NATIONWIDE HOME WARRANTY!!!! They Take you money and tell you have 3 days to review the contract and cancel within those 3 day. What they don’t tell you that if you don’t like all the “Hoops” you have to jump through thats in the contract for making a claim, it will cost you $50.00 just to cancel. Watch out for Robert, he will sell you a contract at any cost, but knows nothing about what is entailed for making a claim. Once you read the contract, its too late and they won’t give you your money back.
I have preciously filed a review on this website. This entry is to provide all of you with a website to file a formal complaint with the State of NY, Dept of Insurance. It is simple and quick. http://www.ins.state.ny.us/complhow.htm
THIS COMPANY IS A SCAM! I would also like to be included in a class action against them. The customer service is totally incompetent and does not work. We have called over and over again to no avail. Our dryer has been broken for 4 days and we still do not have a repair request in b/c customer service “cannot help us.” How can they not help us? It’s their job?
like every other review – this company is a scam. without doing my homework, i signed up- then minutes later i read (in horror) the terrible reviews online…i immediately called to cancel my policy and so began the mindnumbing experience of dealing with Nationwide’s customer service. the first time i called they said to send an email to cancel my policy. so i did. no response. so i called. a completely rude ‘swtichboard’ operator answered and told me that the billing dept. was busy. i asked if i could hold on the line- she said no. she took my name and number and said i would get a call back. no call. i sent another email. no response. i called again. same story from the SAME rude woman. next day, same thing- same lady. email and phone call. SAME thing. fourth day- my call immediately goes on hold. at this point i am quite sure that the switchboard lady has recognized my number and places me on hold- every 30 sec i hear the phone click, meaning that she has placed me on hold for another cycle. this goes on for 15 min…so while still on hold- i call from my cell phone- a number they do not recognize- after 2 rings I get through- while still on hold on the first line- fortunately I got a different guy who finally said he would cancel the policy.
PLEASE DO YOUR HOMEWORK- do not use this company. I finally went with Sensible Home Warranty- they were courteous and professional- their rates excellent- and delivered their contract as stated.
I would like to address my concerns stated about the fraudulent services Nationwide Home Warranty Services failure to provide after several repeated attempts to have a service repair to my Whirlpool Dryer. I was hung up on after place on hold several times. The phone would ring during business hours and no one answers the calls. When I finally got through, I got the run around about that contract was not signed; therefore no one could dispatch service, although, my contract was signed over a month ago with credit card payment prior to me calling in for service. I was told that they dispatch someone and I will have to wait 24 – 48 hours for someone to call to set a date to come out. I never received that call at all. Long story short… I have to ride this contract out until 2014 for the meantime, I plan on contacting the BBB.
This company is a scam. Signed up for a monthly payment and got charged for the entire amount. Called them several times to correct the issue, told me I will get the refund but never did. Called again to cancel the account and got transferred to different “departments.” All reps were rude. Last rep I spoke to said the account has been cancelled but never got a confirmation. So I called my bank that same day and disputed the amount they charged me. Got my money back!!! Don’t be duped. They are just there to get your money.
HELLO EVERYONE! THEY ARE A RIPP OFF! I TOOK THEM TO COURT IN NEW YORK AND WON. THEY HAVE NOT EVEN PAID THE JUDGMENT FROM THE COURT! IF ANYONE CAN TELL ME WHICH BANK NATIONWIDE USES I MIGHT BE ABLE TO GET THE MARSHALL AFTER THEM. PLEASE EMAIL ME LJLODGE@MSN.COM
THANKS.
This company is a SCAM. I called about a broken ceiling fan. They sent a technician who reported that the fan could not be fixed. Nationwide then denied the claim stating that it was a preexisting condition. I have filed a suit with the state insurance agency in New York where they are based. I suggest that others do the same. I am also filing a law suit against them. Time to put these disreputible companies out of business
Nationwide Home Warranty is a complete SCAM! Don’t waste your time or money (not to mention your sanity) on this poor excuse for a home warranty company. They are in the business of denying claims and have a whole laundry list of requirements and stipulations they’ll throw at you ONLY AFTER you submit a claim.
When you make the initial call to Nationwide to enroll, very professional and helpful individuals answer on the second or third ring and promise that everything is covered (they never once mention the need for “maintenance records” or that only one of your A/Cs will be covered). Had this been disclosed during the rosy sales pitch, I would have never given them my business. I bought a 12 year old home and obviously didn’t have any maintenance records from the previous owner.
When you submit a claim, it quickly goes downhill. The claims department consists of the most disrespectful and rude individuals I have ever encountered. When you finally get to speak with someone after being on hold for 30-45 minutes, they promise you will be contacted within 24-48 hours – 5 days later you still haven’t been contacted. They change the status to “priority” and again say that you’ll be contacted in 24-48 hours. When I contacted the first technician they assigned, the company told me they no longer do business with Nationwide (I now know why).
If a class action lawsuit is ever established, thousands of us who have been taken will jump on that bandwagon.
I have an electrical outlet problem. Technition came out could not fix from the switch plate. He said there was a short somewhere. He called Nationwide and said someone would contact me and left.2 weeks later i finally got a hold of someone and they said it was pre\existing should have been fixed befor warranty began. How can you fix something when it was not broke. Then my garage door began to slip as it went up and down. Repairman came out knew how to fix it said he would call Nationwide be back tommorrow.1 weeks later I called him he said he was tired of waiting on the phone to speak with someone. Told me he would rather fix it without them.Tried to get my money back. Should not have changed from Homeshield to save money They where OK.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE include me as yet another voice of disgust and frustration of this Nationawide Home Warranty SCAMMERS! I am so livid right now after being told—once again, that I am denied for yet another claim. I was told that I am only covered for one A/C unit and since they already sent someone out to look at a problem on a unit (which of course they wouldn’t pay for) I am being denied. UNBELIEVABLE! There is no where in my contract that shows that I have to specify that I want to add a second unit. How the hell am I supposed to add an option that I am not being given?!?!
I wish I had not paid in advance for the year. I would LOVE to be included in any class action law suit—-lost tons of money so far on wasted deductibles. DISGUSTING!
SHAME ON YOU Nationwide!!!!!!
This company is the worst I have ever had to deal with. They were super friendly when trying to sell their policy, and then it all stopped. Instead of taking the monthy installments, I was charged the entire year in lump sum! I have been denied on 2 seperate claims since getting this policy in March. They grasp at straws for reasons to deny you. Please do not buy a policy from this company!!!! You will just be throwing away money, and then have to pay for all repairs out of pocket anyways. Biggest mistake I’ve made since buying my home.
SCAM BIG TIME! I can not believe they are still in business. I signed up one day, read horror reviews the next day, cancelled, which per their terms and conditions, there are 3 days to do so for a refund minus $50 administrative fee. No refund of any sort for 3 months. We need to do something together. I am calling the NY state commission of insurance tomorrow and the Attorney General. Whoever is comfortable, leave your e-mail, so we can be in touch – my is: s4salsa@yahoo.com
I too am a scam victim. Unfortunately, I read all of these reviews much too late. I called and tried to cancel with a refund…….you guessed it. No refunds. The agent did give me an address that I doubt even exists. He told me they occupy the entire 8th floor at: 100 Church St. PMB 1003 New York, NY 10007 FAX (214)453-0024
The Arizona Corporation Commission has no record of this company doing business in Arizona. My bank is assigning this matter to an investigator. My claim was denied because they say my pool sand filter that sprung a leak in a seam high up on the wall was caused by calcium, and they do not cover calcium leaks. Their own pool contractor disputed that and told them it was “wear and tear”, but they said the decision was final. I was told I could appeal via fax, which I did. Not suprisingly, I never received any response. I would love to join a class action suit, if in fact they even exist as a company. Anyone with any ideas, info or plans feel free to email me at sunluvers@orbitelcom.com.
In early July 2009 my air conditioner would shut down during the peak time of the day, the fan would blow but no cool air. I called NW for a repair. Sent R&L Heat and Air out to check it out. Told me it was a leaking compressor but they could not fix it without an approval from NW. R&L got $50.00 for that. Come to find out it was under mfg warranty and the did not cover any part under mfg warranty… go figure. Labot is $600 to $800 to replace. Called a local H&A company, while on the phone the reapir man told me to look at my coils on the outside unit. Told me it might be clogged up and to shut the unit down and wash out with a hose, I did, works fine ever since He told me he would fire any technician who did not clean the coils on a service call. Told me any reputable repair company would have checked that first given the circumstances I had framed for him. Batting 0 out of 2 with these crooks. Going to small claims court.
On August 17 2009 I made a sevice call for my washer, On August 19 I called to see what the status of my repair as NW had yet to call a repair center. Later that day I called R&L repair center NW emailed me and they came out to repair my washer, well the repairman can in, opened my dryer and looked around inside it and I said wrong appliance the washer is the other one. Said it needed some part, took 10 days to get it,On Sept 1 they put the new part in, took 2 men over an hour and half. Worked for 3 loads of clothes broke again. Called R&L just got VMX no return call, called NW told me they would take care of it. I have called NW each day with the promise of a repair. Today is the 16th of September and no one has bothered to call or even answer my requests.Just called tonight, when I go to the prompt for a status request the line goes dead.SO far they have collected $340 fromm me plus 2 $50 repair company bills, so far no repair… see my post for my air conditioner.
I did not even sign the contract that they sent because everything that the salesperson said did not match the Terms and Agreement submitted. The sales person charged my credit card and refused to refund my credit card although not authorized to charge (never signed the Terms and Agreement and never signed the document requested to give them the authority to charge my credit card). Do not even get a quote from this company. Do not provide any information to them. What you are told does not match the contract and then they try to allege a 3 day recession period although you do not even have the contract to review. Again, do not provide any credit card information or any documentation to this company.
Dont use its a 100% scam we have never been paid for providing services to there customers we gave up and just wrote it off most plumbers are not as nice as us and they will come after the home owner for the unpaid balance just a fyi national home protection sucks x1000000000 the new york state attorney general needs to arrest all of them on fraud charges go with old republic , ahs, or 2 10 buyers they pay there claims just read your contract carefully so you understand whats covered and whats not and then theirs no surprises
Nationwide is company with well trained criminals. I contacted them on 9/11/09 interested in purchasing a warranty. I wish that I had seen this website first. They offered me this great sounding warranty for 359. a year which they emailed to me. They told me I had 3 days to cancel. I reviewed the warranty and decided to cancel on 9/14/09 within the 3 days bc the warranty had so many things it did not cover. I called and was placed on hold for hours, passed around to employees, begged by employees not to cancel, given to an alleged supervisor who stated the only way I could cancel was to send an email agreeing to pay $50.00. I told that was absurd. I spoke with an atty who stated they are committing fraud. I once again instructed Nationwide to cancel which they would not without an email. I sent an email telling them to cancel, but not agreeing to a $50.00 charge. I faxed a hard copy to Nationwide requesting cancellation. I have not heard from anyone. I reported them to the BBB. They have charged my card for a full year which I am disputing. Tomorrow I will be busy writing the NY & GA Attorney General. I cannot believe that these people are allowed to do business. They should be locked up just like a criminal who steals your purse. I will not stop until they refund my money and someone does something about this business. If anyone knows of anyone else that needs to be written please let me know. Thanks
This comapny has no intenetion of doing anything but taking your money. They find a reason to deny every claim.
This is the WORST company I’ve ever had the displeasure to ‘have’ to conduct business with. They’ll take your money quite happily and then make every excuse in the book to deny covering any and all repair issues you will incur. Pass this company up like you would a rabid dog…you’ll be very glad you didn’t hand them any of your hard earned money.
This company is terrible! They steal people money! I took them to court and won, now they won’t pay. Does anyone have any bank info on them? Maybe who your credit card or check may have gone through. Now I have to get the City of New York Marshalls involved.
THIS COMPANY NATIONWIDE HOME WARRANTY IS A SCAM If you actually read the small print in the contract NOTHING is covered. I had blocked plumbing. The front page says blocked plumbing is covered. I was told when making my claim it would be covered. I told the guy I thought it was roots, he said it was covered, I just had to pay the $60 deductible. It turned out to be roots and claim was denied because foreign objects and roots are not covered in blocked pipes. All things are considered foreign objects in plumbing. The denial E mail they sent me actually said it was denied because of faulty installation. I pointed out to them nothing was installed. They told me they sent me that one in error. The reason mine was denied was that it was roots or foreign object blockage. It was with in 100 feet of the house as required. THIS IS A SCAM THEY DON’T PLAY CLAIMS. I will report this to the BBB and to the Attorney General and anyone else I can. I am not through fighting this…maybe even court. I would like to see a class action suit against this company!
