| Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights
Note: This company may have sold warranties using the brand name Champion Home Warranty

FINALLY they are not allowed to sell HW policies in Nevada. All my hard work PAID OFF. Company is a TOTAL SCAM!! Should have googled them 1st. Lesson learned!
I am sorry to report that Nationwide Home Warranty provides the worst service I have EVER received from a company. I totally agree with the previous posts regarding this company. Please AVOID DOING BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. There is no way this is a legitimate business. They are ripoff con artists.
They never answer the phone in a timely manner. They keep you on hold forever. They utilize the worst service repair companies. I believe there are only two persons employed in the entire company. They treat the customers they do have like sh-t.
Criminal charges should be filed against them for fraud.
Pleassssssssssse stay clear of this company.
I hope after reading my reviews, people will be aware not to throw their money to these folks and rather give it to some charity. I went to these guys for home warranty because they did some work for one of my friend which was very low cost fixes (below $100). Also they were charging only $350 for my home warranty and I became greedy. Their first email came which was at a very high level and sounded like they will cover everything I wanted. The sales person was very nice to talk to. Once I made the payment, they sent me a document of all the disclaimers. I was too comfortable talking to their sales guy so didn’t bother to read the document in detail. After going thru 65 days of above 100 degree Austin temperature, my cooling system stopped working. I made a claim on their website and it took almost 5 days of repeated phone calls before a contractor arrived. It was a tough week for me and my family to live in that kind of heat. I paid visiting fee to contractor before he entered my home. That contractor was very well aware of how to decline the claim. Without opening the A/C unit, he said that there is rust in the evaporation coil. I asked the contractor that how he made that judgment without opening the unit and he had no answer. So I guess they are hand in gloves with each other and will do only if the cost of repair is very low. Again, please learn to love your money and don’t give it to them.
This is what their disclaimer for Cooling System. They will categorize your issue in one of these and decline to do any work. Please stay away from them. Donate money to poors instead. Don’t give them to these folks.

This has been true experience of “you get what you pay for”. If you want to loose money than go for it (better donate it to poors in Haiti). I had a claim for A/C and its evoporation coil was leaking. They flatly refused to fix it. Then I had issue with microwave keypad malfunctioning and they labeled it as button problem which was not correct. Finally I had to pay $1000 myself to get my items fixed. Please make judgement yourself by reading their clause for built-in microwave coverage. In such a small piece of equipment, they have 15 disclaimers and most of your problem can be described as one of these. On top of that you will end up paying $60 to the contractor they will send home.
This Agreement covers all modules, components and parts of the built-in microwave oven necessary to the functionality of the built-in microwave oven. This Agreement does NOT cover portable or countertop microwave ovens. This Agreement does NOT cover the following list of modules, components and part relating to the built-in microwave oven: (i) door handles; (ii) door hinges; (iii) doors; (iv) clocks; (v) racks; (vi) meat probe components; (vii) knobs, caps and buttons ; (viii) rotisserie components; (ix) interior facing/lining ; (x) shelves; (xi) light bulbs; (xii) grates; (xiii) glass; (xiv) trays; (xv) cosmetic issues or abnormalities; and (xvi) components relating to installation/mounting.
This company is the worst I think I have ever dealt with. I will definately throw the renewal notice in the trash!
If you are choosing a home warranty company DO NOT choose Nationwide. If I can help anyone, this would be how. They are not a home buyers protection company, and they do not alleviate the burden of warranty issues you are potentially hiring them for. Do you homework and choose one of the top three companies that Nationwide would never be ranked with. You will NOT save money and you will only generate more headaches and stresses in your household by even considering this company. I hope I helped!
Rip Off, Scam, Dishonest, I tried to make 2 claims and they denied them both. They give you the run-a-round, they put you on hold and never pick back up, you call back and they put you on hold again, you ask to speak to a manager and they say there not there today, you ask for a refund and they refuse, once you pay the money, you get nothing for it, and I had to find a contractor that had never heard of them that would even come out to my house because they had been scammed by them before. PLEASE DO NOT use this company, they will take your money, like they took mine…Also, READ any contract before paying, shame on me for trusting them…
If you paid with your credit card you can dispute the charge or file a fraud charge. With a copy of these reviews it should be a “slam dunk”. I saw one positive out of 380 reviews, most of the others used the terms “fraud” and “scam”. It looks like California has banned them. I will work on getting Nevada to do the same. If anyone wants to contact me, my email is bced98@yahoo.com
They denied my claim based on a hypothesis by the technicain, instead of an actual test to determine the problem. If you have an a/c problem, don’t mention freon. Their customer service is the worst. Prepare to stay on hold forever. They tout their email customer service is fast. Their response is to tell you to call in and wait on hold.
Since belonging to the Military, up to date I have purchased 6 Homes due to the many moves I’ve requried to undertake and with every home I purchase Home Warranties to eliminate the frustration of costly repairs. If I knew then what I know now I would have never carried NationWide as my Home Warranty; this company has by far been the worst ever I have had to deal with. Read this; I purchased my home a bit under a year ago and of course the previous home owner did not leave any maintainenance paper work for the HVAC unit and normally most homeowners do not; however, the home inspector prior to the purcahse of the home conducted a thorough inspection of all items including the HVAC. The HVAC recieved an A++ from the home inspector.
When the circuit board to my HVAC unit burned out it took Nationwide sevral days to contact me just to let me know theat they were unable to find anyone to accept their contract and I wonder why. Keep in mind that during this entire process My family and I are without heat in the month of January into the first week of February 2010; Nationwide Representative requested that I look for a HVAC company for them, what the heck is’nt that their job? or I could cancell the contract and get my last quarter’s payment returned. So I thought to myself what kind of comapny is this that I’m dealing with here. So in-order to try to soeed up teh process I wnet ahead and found a local HVAC company to take on the chore. This is when I found out that the circuit board was bad. to inlighten you there’s no maintainance that can be done to teh circuit board other than looking at it and ensuring that it’s there, so maintenance paperwork wouldn’t have proven a darn thing, this was just a way to find a loop hole in-order so that they would’nt have to pay out. Well sure enough, the reapir would be costly and of course Nationwide asked for maintenance records. I spoke directly to a Nationwide claims manger who did not want to provide me her name nor an extension and I explained to her that records were not available being that I recently purchased the home and the previous home owner did not provide such records; however, I explained that I didi have a home inspection conducted and gave a thorough report of all inspected itemd to include the HVAC system. The manger ststed that she would look at the report and get back to me.
After 3 days the Nationwide manager never called, did I mentioned that we are still out of heat, anyway I called and as some of you may know there wait times are 30 minutes or longer. I finally got through and teh representative told me that the Manager wasn’t in and would leave her a note to contact me. 2 more days past and no call this wenet on for several days until I was finally fed up and demanded to speak to someone on order to resolve the issue. The next day I finall spoke to representative who informed me that the claims department found that the report was insufficient and Nationwide would not pay for my repairs. Of course I was very upset and requested cancellation of my contract and to add insult to injury the represetative ststed that I could’nt since I just entered a new contract. I stated that I never received notification for continuance and wanted them to provided me proof of signature where I agrred to such contract continuation. I ended up speaking to someone in the contract division who told me that under my special circumstance they would cancel my contract. I also asked that I get a refund for my last quarter which was previously offered due to their inability of finding a HVAC contractor, but of course the representative sataed that a refund would be impossible.
Hopefully you have taken the time to read my horrifing expierience with Nationwide Warranty. I truly believe that word of mouth is the strongest consumer tool available. DO NOT USE THI WARRANTY COMPANY and pass word !!!
I wish we would have checked the BBB before buying… after our most recent claim, finally checked it – they’re rated an “F” (on an A-F rating)! Terrible, terrible, terrible!!! I just want out!
This is the worst warranty company I’ve ever dealt with. They cancelled all of my claims. Please cancel your credit or they will re-new your contract without your approval. This happened to new last year.
Do not buy a home warranty with Nationwide Home Warranty. They would not do any thing for you. They will re-new your contract without your approval.. Make sure cancel your credit that you provided to them.
My heat went out on a Friday night. I tried to make a claim to the “24/7″, got a recording stating call back during business hours and place claim on nationwide website. Went to the website and there is no place to place a claim on the site. Call a different number listed on webpage, and got the same voice recording, later found out claims had to be email. Office close on weekend, we had record low temps 40-25 degrees. Call monday morning was on hold for over 20 minutes, giving me the run around, issue still has not been resolved
The sales people did a great job “selling” me on their company but they fell very short of their claims. When my washer broke down they were very slow to answer my call and when I called back a few days later they “had no record of my claim”. I put in a new claim and they promised to get back to me withing 48 hours. I waited 7 days and called back to complain and they told me a “manager” would call me back. No one did. I called again a week later (by then I had the repair done on my own dime) to see if I could actually get a “manager” to call me back. They apologized profusely and told me that a manager would call me back. I asked when, and they could not give me an estimate. In the end, they never did call back and I feel I’ve been ripped off. I wish I’d checked their reviews before buying. It’s all here in black and white. Avoid these people like the plague unless you enjoy being ingnored and throwing your money away. If I could give a score of zero, I would have.
Worst company, I can’t wait that my first year contract done. No customer service at all, don’t expect they will repair any thing. Very regret to purchase the home warranty with this company and need to suffer for the whole year.
NEVER, NEVER, use this company. there are so many fine prints to their contract it is unbelievable. Had a hot water heater leak into my carpeted basement, and they wouldn’t cover it because I didn’t have routine maintanence done on it. And then, they wouldn’t give my money back or cancel the contract after only being in the contract 6 months. DON’T USE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HORRIBLE COMPANY. CONTRACT SAYS YOU CAN REQUEST SERVICE 24/7. COMPANY IS ONLY REACHABLE BY PHONE, IF AT ALL, MONDAY TO FRIDAY, REGULAR BUSINESS HOURS. TECHS CAN’T GET AUTHORIZATION TO DO REPAIR BECAUSE THEY ARE CLOSED!!! WILL NOT RENEW, AND WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THEM.
On Thanksgiving our Furnace went out, we were told someone would contact us immediately. Two days later, still no contact at all. NWHW told us that they had changed processes and we needed to sign a new agreement contract to prove that we had actually had a contract with them.
I asked, ‘am I in the system’ they said ‘Yes’. Ok ‘are you taking money out of my account each month’ ‘Yes’. Have you sent someone out to do work this year? ‘Yes’. Ok then I have a contract I need to sign nothing else. Instead they said they wouldn’t dispatch anyone till my wife signed and faxed back a copy of the original contract we had already signed.
This went on for 5 days as we told them we had our 3 month old grandbaby in the cold house and were now having to send my family elsewhere due to the cold. They said I could pay out of pocket and MAYBE they would reemburse us after they reviewed the claim and had signed the agreement again.
On Nov 30th I faxed them a formal letter saying I was not renewing my contract (This was 31 days before the contract was to renew so I was still within cancelation time). They said ok. This month they have taken out TWO payments. One on Jan 4th and one Yesterday Jan 31st!
I called them and they said it hadn’t been canceled because the fax was garbled. I said that was immpossible because it was a WORD doc and sent to TWO different fax numbers. They said it is cancled now and they will refund my money in 21 business days.
I have filed a formal complaint with the BBB in NYC and I suggest all of you do the same.
I have just had my fifth repair request denied from Nationwide Home Warranty and I am now filing a class action suit against this company. PLEASE, send me your name, address and phone number so that my lawyer may contact you and add your name to the suit.
This company needs to be put out of business.
The service man that came to my home yesterday told me that NO ONE has to pay their service call bill because it is in THEIR contract with Nationwide that NATIONWIDE will have to pay them if the customer does not.
So start calling them for every little item in your home and don’t pay the service man…it is our way of getting NATIONWIDE to pay SOMEONE.
My name is Jane and you can contact me at jenkae2@msn.com
Together we can WIN.
Thank you.
I’ve had 2 service people out to fix my heat – starting Nov 09- the first man said that the furance is supposed to run for 2 minutes and then shut off – the 2nd said – no that isn’t right – but can’t figure out how to fix it.I’m afraid that I’ve been duped -though American Home Shield didn’t seem any better.
PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT USE!!!!! VERY POOR COMPANY TO DEAL WITH!!!! I purchased 5 contracts for 5 different properties and put in one claim for my dishwasher. Got a complete run around, customer service not knowledgeable, was on hold for supervisors twice for 30 minutes each time and they hung up on me. 10 days later and my dishwasher is still not working. Don’t know what to do!!!!!! I hope I save you a lot of aggravation. CHOOSE another company……..
I purchased my warranty March 2009. Today, in mid January 2010 I called in my first claim. First – they are slow to fax the request to the service provider. Finally, after a day, the service provider got it. My appointment was the following day at 8 a.m. After he got here and found the problem, tried to call Nationwide and they were not open until 10:30 a.m. our time. He rescheduled for later in the afternoon so I would not miss a whole day of work. I had a stoppage in my bathroom sink pipe. After the service person called in to them, they denied the claim, saying that it was caused by rust and corrosion (imagine that!) I called Nationwide about the claim twice and got the same answer. I asked to speak with a manager and all she could do was give me an e-mail address to cancel the policy. I told her that it was my first claim and I wanted a full refund, since I thought it was rediculous that they denied the claim. I had to pay the service person $240, and he still could not complete the job. I have to get a new sink because something would not fit snug enough (a slight crack). I am still without a bathroom sink to use, and only have one bathroom in my house! I will mention also that the service person was very nice and genuine and said that in his experience, Nationwide denies almost every claim. I will not renew with them ever again!!!
Called For a sump pump to be fixed on 11/27/09. The dispatched a company C&F to come and fix it. He called back on late fri to ask how bad was it. I told him not to bad the table was low but it was going to rain for the next two days. He finally came on monday after noon and the water table had about two more inches till it was in my basesment. He came in so the problem then went out to the truck to report it to nation wide. He came back and said the claim was denied. I said impossiple. I then called to ask for the reasoning they said that he said that there was rust. I then made them repeat it and put them on the speaker so the gentalman could hear. He then took the phone and told them he did not say ththat he said the well was rusted that the pump died from normal ware and tare. They then said that the claim was denied because what was said was said prior and once a clame is denied you can not un deny it(if that is a word). I then got back on the phone with them and told them that the table was very high and it needed to get done. They then told me that it was denied and that I have to pay him $50.00 for comming out there. I said, you have to be kidding me ( that is the clean version). You are telling me that this guy was here for 3 minutes left made a phone call came back in and you denyied a claim that you should cover. At this point I new what part of the contract it was because they kept saying 9.1, 9.1. I went in to get the contract and as I was comming out the gentalman from C&F was comming out to. I read what 9.1 said and it says rust or corrosion on the appliance. There was none I stated, I told them that the well was rusted about 4 inches up from the bottom but that is were the water sits before the pump comes on. At this point C&F came out to tell them that the sump pump was from a hard platic material that it was impossible to be rusted or corroded. They still said denied. I still have the sump pump in my basement as evidence. So my policy cost $379.00 then I had to buy the parts that day from C&F wich cost me $200.00. So I am out $579.00 because of this company. This is a true and factual problem. This place is the worst customer service, they are con artistest. I have writen letters to the BBB. I have called channel 7 on your side. I have emailed Glenn Beck, Bill O’riely I have writen a letter to the star ledger for some one to help me to get my money back. This is a lot of money that was out of pocket. Maybe it was my own dumb fault for not going to one of these web sites first before I gave them my money but it does not give them the right to rip us off. I am a hard working individual with a wife and baby trying to make it every week and we do not need people stealing money from us. Please learn from us Do not go with this company. i even had the same expieriance with AHS. If some one knows how or if we take all these complaints and come together and sew or something to get all of our money back. I thought it would feel better to see that I was not alone but it even hurts more to see all the other people that they are getting away with this. WE SHOULD ALL STICK TOGETHER AND GET OUR MONEY BACK. In these tough times $579.00 is alot of money and it can put a lot of diapers on my little one. BUYER BE AWARE DO NOT BECOME A VICTEM LIKE ME PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.
