Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights
Note: This company may have sold warranties using the brand name Champion Home Warranty

Horrible Service!!! I called them 5 times to get my oven fixed and furnace. I never got a call back. Finally they said to just get it fixed and fax them the invoice. I did this 2 months ago and called today to see where my reimbursement check is and they said both claims have been denied. Then they put me on hold and never called back!!!
Wow, after reading these posts I feel like I just went through my ordeal again. I went through the very same thing with my pool motor. Paid the extra money to have my pool and hot tub added to my policy and they wanted service records for a fully enclosed pool motor. It’s like a “light bulb” no user servicable parts. I told the people this and they refused to fix it for me. I had to go to the contractor and get my pump, go get a new one myself and install it. I put in a claim for the cost of the pump and they paid me for that, but they had no intention of paying for a professional to do the work. THIS IS A SCAM. Now my AC is acting up and I know if I call them I will need heavy medication to make it through the ordeal. Still debating if I am even going to call them, or pay for it myself to save the wear and tear on my psyche.
ANYONE WHO IS CONSIDERING THIS COMPANY ~ DON’T DO IT!!!!!!!
Washer and dryer went bad due due to flooding from broken water hose to washer.
Plummer fixed the washer hoses fine.
Appliance person said the washer and dryer could not be used from the water damage of the broken hose. If I used them it could cause a serious fire. They told me to contact nationwide for replacement. Nationwide rudely told me they would not replace the washer and dryer and be reimbured on my contract.
A scam. They suck big time.
Hello.
This is the worst company EVER ! Picture this: Month of August in Georgia. My A/C goes out. I had been paying Nationwide for 5-6 months and this would have been my very first service call. I called Nationwide and they send out a company called Appliance Care ( very generic sounding name ) then I am told they will order the part but it takes a week to be received. I called a week later now they tell me there will be another week’s delay. I called Nationwide back to ask what they can do. They flat out refuse to give me the name of another company. I explain to them that it is the middle of August in Georgia. The reps seem not to care at all. They are devoid of human emotion. Because they do not seem to have a plan B I tell them that I want the automated debit stopped on my bank and to cancel the service….flat refusal. I talk to no less than 2 reps, a supervisor and a person in billing who can not empathize one iota with my situation. They make a point of telling me that I can not get any of my money back. I told them I would have my bank to do a stop payment on the automatic drafts…then they threaten to ruin my credit. They also refused to pay me back any of the money I have paid out in the last 6 months….They are so good at threats but they have rotten customer service and 0 empathy for my situation. I told them I am not in the business of giving out my money to charity and they have to earn my money month to month.
I am filing a complaint with BBB and my the Georgia Attorney General’s office.
Wow, just stamp ass on my head. I wish I would have seen this review page before getting service through this company. I have been documenting every phone call and every name of every manager I have spoken with for the past month. I am sure I know their work schedule better than they do. Air conditioning unit is out and has been out for a month with no resolve. They were quick to send someone to service it but now that it requires real work they are procrastinating. Will contact BBB and a lawyer for breach of contract.

I wish I had read this website before purchasing a Nationwide Home Warranty. I know I made a big mistake. The sales person (phone) responded quickly to my questions and gave all of the right answers. However, when the contract arrived, it had different information from what we discussed. When I called to complain and cancel, I was told that everything would be fixed and a new policy was emailed to me. I should have read it more thoroughly…because not EVERYTHING was fixed. Our a/c system stopped cooling – and we live in Florida – and 3 days after the service call, I still had no response. I ended up having to call their service company on my own to schedule repair. When the repair person came, he told me he wasn’t sure what the problem was – either I needed cools cleaned or there was a refrigerant leak. He told me he could not check for the leak because that would require a seperate call – meaning I would have to pay him another $50 fee for the visit. He also told me he was trained to look at my neighborhood and inside furnishings when determining what to “sell” me to fix my a/c problem. I could go on and on about this whole ordeal – it was awful. Does anyone know how I can get out of the Nationwide scam? They are billing me monthly – paid directly from my credit card. We purchased a new a/c system after a reputable company (we chose and paid for) came out and diagnosed the real problem. NATIONWIDE IS A SCAM
I unfortuntely have a warranty with this company. My AC unit went out completely in mid July, with a 2 week old baby and a home which was reaching 93 degrees. I was informed to have the work done and submit the invoices, estimates and paperwork for reinbursement. I did everything I was asked, after 2 days I was informed that the work would NOT be covered. I asked over and over why and no one could ever give me a reason. I fulfilled everything in my contract, they on the other hand did not. Any one out there who is considering a home warranty company, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They are a complete rip off.
They do not live up to their warranty. Their repair time is some times 30 – 40 days.
Then they tell the repairman to get a lower cost item, because their limit is $100.00, for the repair and the labor, for example, a ceiling fan,
Most of the women on the answering line are plesent, but only have control to issue a work order. It takes days and many phone calls to get, if any, results.
I was promised two free service calls per year, if I would purchase the contracts that day. I was also promised two free $50.00 gift cards for Home depot, that was in the contract, you must wait 60 days before your apply for them. How deceptive. They don’t tell you this. so when you apply for the free gift cards, you are turned down because you applied to soon.
I would never recomend National home protection. They dectful and uncareing.
One of the worst companies I ever dealt in my life. Nothing is covered when the need arises, they lie about almost everything (including the Home Depot rebate which never materialized), and customer service is rude.
I placed a claim with NationWide Home Warranty on 7/15/08. My only water source is our well and we could not get water. A well company came out and said the deep well pump was dead. At first NationWide said they had authorized the company to replace it, however I had heard nothing from him, so I called. He said he had not received a FAX authorizing him to replace the pump. When I contact the claims supervisor she said I had to provide “maintenance records” on the pump or they wouldn’t pay. I told her deep well pumps are maintenance free. They are deep in the ground and only require electricity to work, which I have always provided, so I would have water! It is comparable to a lightbulb. You can’t maintain a lightbulb. When it dies, you replace it – same scenario. I told claims I had livestock that needed water and still I was turned down. I do not have the money to pay for a new well pump. Stay away from this company. It is the worse home warranty program I have ever run into.
Extremely rude, called me a filthy animal and that they don’t work with animals. Refused to provide me any service.
Whoever wants to develop high blood pressure should take up a contract with this company. They are so unreliable and the customer service folks are so rude… I don’t even know what to say…….
This is the WORST and most UNPROFESSIONAL company I have ever dealt with. Judging by the posts, I am not the only one who feels that way! Our central A/C broke in our house. We called Nationwide on Monday morning. Nationwide told us that a contractor would call us within 24-48 hours. Over 48 hours later, we did not receive a phone call. We called Nationwide again and the customer service rep was extremely rude and told us that a contractor would call us by the next morning. We waited another 48 hours – no phone call! We called Nationwide AGAIN. They told us that the contractor was not able to do the job and a new contractor would call us by Saturday morning. By Saturday evening, we gave up! I called Nationwide to cancel the claim and cancel our contract, and the customer service rep told me she couldn’t help me and that I had to call back on Monday at 10PM. What?!? When I persisted, the customer service rep YELLED at me! I asked to speak with the manager and she was just as disrespectful. Beware…do not do business with this company! This was the WORST experience I have ever had with a company.
The worst company EVER! They refuse to pay for any repairs! I have 6 contracts with them and all are automatically refused without recourse. I have tangled with both Brian Cooper and John Ryan. They are the same person I have reported them to the NY Insurance Fraud Investigations Unit. That’s what everyone should do to stop them from preying from unsuspecting persons.
A COMPLETE FRAUD!!
I’ve been following these posts on this web site for the last seven months… I was scammed by this company last year too…I feel so bad for all of you who are now also victims of this crooked company.
I can’t figure out why they are still allowed to advertise their company on the web? The lesson we have all learned is to check companies out who advertise on the web first before buying anything from them.
I have been trying to get someone to repair my oven for over a week and have been receiving the most horrible customer service I have ever experienced in my life. The place I work places a high importance on good friendly customer service and I have received nothing but the run around with rude uncaring people. I will highly reccommend to go somewhere else for your home warranty. This is the worst $400 I have spent in my life. I have called 14 times and spoken with about as many people and nobody keeps a record of previous calls from you, nor your contractor. They even told me that my contractor lied to me and the conversation he told me he had with them, they said he never had and that he never called once. However, He has a record of the phone call.
I wish I had checked this website before purchasing the home warranty from Nationwide Home Warranty. 15 days after the effective date of my policy my A/C unit compressor went out. I was told to fax copies of maintenance records to Mr. Brian Cooper, then after review would determine if they would cover the cost of the repair. I faxed records and never heard from Mr. Cooper. After sitting on hold and several disconnects I was told by a girl in claims that since the policy was only in effect 15 days after effective date and that the A/C contractor had reported it as preexisting it would not be covered. I spoke with the contractor and he told me that it was a lie. The only report was that the system’s compressor was broken and needed to be replaced or repaired.
When I was asked for a copy of the report from the A.C contractor from Nationwide I was denied. Don’t buy this warranty, they are scams and you are throwing away your money!! BEWARE!!!
Complete scam company. Google the words “Scam” with “Nationwidehomewarranty” and be SHOCKED. I was. Of course, this was AFTER I gave them $500, and AFTER my entire A/C system blew up. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY. If you really want to experience the same thing, throw $500 out the window as you speed down the freeway. Both experiences will feel the same.
First time caller/user of this company and did not even get a call back for the problem reported after two weeks. No one answers the e-mail sent to them to explain why.
the only responce that I got was from the man selling the home warranty to me and he refered me to their customer service department(????).
Company is a joke and after getting thier money you will not hear from them again.
the service really does not exist. it all run around and not no knows anything. 3 + days for my freezer and it was not repaired. we waited 3+ days for our AC and so far no one has come out yet. the contractors do not seem to know who the home warrenty company really is. so we will look for some thing else. it had been a cat and mouse thing for 72 hrs with these incompetent people.
I would like to know why these people haven’t been shut down for running a scam? After I made the mistake and gave them my credit card number, I realized after I hung up the phone, I was dealing with crooks…I called back and tried to cancel and was given a bad time…I then called my credit card company immediately, and told them the situation…Finally after five months, I got the charge officially taken off my card.
I doubt these people are even working in a office. They have no address, only a P.O. box number… Most likely they are working out of a garage or a private residence.
This is not a company who has any intention of servicing or honoring their contracts. Incredibly rude. When I said I wanted to cancell the contract they said they would not do it.
This is nothing but a scam, to seperate you from your money.
This company is a scam… Called for A/C not working in Phoenix in 100 degree plus temps. Didn’t hear from anyone for 3 days, called again and they advised me to call the contractor that they have put in the repair request with myself to schedule appt. I tell them that it’s their contractor and I’d prefer they contact them again. So, another 2 days goes by and I call Nationwide again and again they ask me to call the company myself. When I called the contractor they had never been contacted but sent someone the next day. The contractor comes says the motor is burned out and it will cost $750 so he calls the company in front of me. They ask for a work order #, which there isn’t one because Nationwide never had contacted them, which I find out is part of their scam. Then I get on the phone and they say they need service records, etc. The A/C company advises me that they do this trick often and they’ve never heard of anyone being happy with their service from Nationwide. I’m a Real Estate Broker. A real Home Warranty Company doesn’t do this EVER! When I advise this to the idiot I’m speaking to at Nationwide he says “Fine.. If you want to be a big shot then we won’t cover anything for you!” So I paid the full amount myself. I’ll be turning them into the Better Business Bureau as soon as I finish this review but I wanted to make sure that no one looking for a Home Warranty plan makes the mistake of using this company. Honestly, this is not how home warranty companies treat customers.
This has to be the most poorly run company i have dealt with they never return phone calls or e-mails and the waiting time to get help is very poor they are a very unorganized company
I wish I had read the comments section on this company and checked with BBB before I signed up with NATIONWIDE HOME WARRANTY. Should have stayed with the company I was with but was trying to save a few $$$$. Well you pay for what you get. I agree that they pass the “buck” when it comes time for service. They come up with every excuse in the book. You’re better off with another service company because if they have to review your claim, prior to sending out a technician, 9 times out of 10 it probably won’t be covered. I will tell everyone I know not to use this service. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND A NIGHTMARE!!! You’ll be better off going elsewhere. Hopefully the company’s senior management is taking heed to the complaints noted here.
