| Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights
Note: This company may have sold warranties using the brand name Champion Home Warranty

I too had nationwide homewarranty and i was suppose to be getting a claim check and it was suppose to be mailed in may when i called i was told twice it was mailed but yet i still have not received it and i have tried to call and email for the last two weeks and nothing from them, as of last week the other numbers had worked and then all the sudden this week only one number works and it goes to a voice mail and says to email i emailed 4 times and nothing. So if any of you need help with your suits/cases or find them i am willing to help i am upset I was suppose to get my check over a month ago and nothing and everytime i called before i was told it was mailed and now nothing you cant even get a person on the phone….Dont use them and beware i have heard they open numerous companys as before this it was a mutal warranty company and then one or two other names before it turned into nationwide and so they prob. have moved on to another company name and are scaming more people as we talk
Filed pool claim last fall. They refused to pay even though they authorized the repair. After nine months of hell with this company, and filing a complaint with AZ Dept of Insurance, I received a “settlement” check in May. Check bounced so I faxed New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo. I received a call the next morning from Nationwide that my credit card was credited for the bounced check. The credit card was a debit card that was canceled. Somehow they pushed it through my bank. OK, so that’s settled even though they have no authorization to access my checking account. On July 6th, they double deducted the amount they paid me. I just came from my bank and they said Nationwide somehow…they do not know how…got access to my checking account and made withdrawals. They are now filing a complaint. We tried to call Nationwide @ 718/943-6920 (voice) and 718/943-6924 (fax) and both numbers are disconnected. Physical address I found online is in Brooklyn, not Church St in Manhattan. Crooks; they should be locked up and made to lick the prison floor clean for life.
AWEFUL!! They’ve rejected my claims then refused to respond to any of my many emails. Forget trying to reach them by phone. They’re a complete RIP OFF. I’m still trying to get my money back. I’m in the process of filing a formal law suit against them. They’re BOGUS!!! Stay away.
I DO NOT recommend this comapny to anyone. I purchased a warnty in Sep 09. I contacted the company for a refrigerator problem in May 2010. I waited over an hour and still wasn’t able to speak to anyone. Finally, I sent an email to the company with no return reply or acknowledgement. We had to buy a refrigerator before the new tenant moved in . This was an additional $420 bill. While vacationing in DC, the tenant called to say there was a plumbing issue. We called Nationwide, was put on hold for about 30 minutes. When I talked to the representative, I was told we no longer had coverage in our area as of 18 May. I was also told I was sent an email with this information. I am still waiting on the email and my refund. I called back the first week in July and was told the amount due would be placed on my card. I called again today July 12, 2010 and got a recording to send inquiries to the info email…no luck. We now have a reputable company (American Home Shield). I have learned to stick with what I know. It is a shame that cnsumers must go through situations such as this. My prayer is that the Administration will make companies such as these pay back what is due to consumers who work for their hard earned money just to be swindled by a company such as this! I will stick with Old Republic or American Home Shield regardless of the price. At least you get a live representative and efficient service!
Called 4 times average hold time 12-15 minutes never answered. Have 2 properties with this company. Phone message for faster service email problem, 4 emails no answer. AC out for 1 day temp 92+ never called back or responded to email. Voice message you are first in line still no answer. Had to get service on my own. Sent complaint to Better Business Bureau in New York where they are located, pages of complaints unresloved. Never licensed in Florida to sell in the first place, Florida issued cease and desist against them several claims from customers unresolved.
I am NOT happy with the customer service or repair service that Nationwide says they offer. It took them 2 weeks to get someone out to fix my clothes washer. I should have been refunded the co-pay because of this. Trying to reach a live person is extremely difficult and then they will not give you a supervisor to talk to. I left several messages and emails and no response from a supervisor to talk about the service I was provided. Looking to get my money back from this company.
my policy was cx cause they decided as of may the 18th 2010 they would not service my area anymore. i got no notice. its benn 30 days i still havent gotten my refund and i still can get anyone on the line to talk to them. none of my emails have been answered. i wouldnt recamend this company to anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This company will fail to let you know when they do not service your area but will continue to take your money; and will only offer you a prorated portion of your money back.Plus contact number are know good and they do not follow back up with you when you leave a message. buyer be ware
DO NOT USE THIS WARRANTY COMPANY. I think they are going bankrupt. Of course like everybody else I wanted to file a claim with them but they sent me an email stating they no longer cover my area. Now I am looking for a new warranty company.
I have been paying them monthly payments for the past eight months! My contract was for a year, and they sent me an email saying they were no longer offering services in my area! As far as I know they cant just say that they aren’t in a contract with you anymore! I have not made any claims, so I want my money back! I have basically just been giving them money for nothing in return! I feel scammed! But you cant get the people on the phone and they dont return emails! This is a FRAUD! Don’t purchase anything from these people!
I would NEVER EVER EVER EVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS company!! I have yet to get my Washer repaired or replaced. They don’t even call me back or send a repairman out or cover what I paid for!! This has been going on since June 9th!!!
Money down the drain for the second year!!!! For the money that I paid for coverage, I could have purchased three new washing machines!!!
I WOULD NOT TRUST ANY REVIEWS ON THEIR WEBSITE FOR THIS COMPANY!!! You should trust only the ones on this site!!!
I have been with this company for two years. Filed a claim in April for my hot water heater, which was denied. I didn’t agree, paid out of pocket. Currently my air conditioner needs service as of last night and in trying to get them and the 800 number is no longer operational; the local listing goes directly to a voice mail that directed me to email them due to them experience a high volume of calls and all the reps are busy and will call back; no response so far. I believe this is not a reputable company as has been stated. My contract expires in September, but it appears that point is settled. I do not suggest doing business with this company.
I have called the company this pm after a very long wait & the person that answered was rude, sharp & told me that we dont service this area since May even though my $30 was deducted from my bank account! We have now paid nearly $300.00 for my home warranty for the year….Do not use this company!!!!
Natonwide Home Warranty sucks! I seriously doubt that this is a legitimate company. My husband and I were insured through another company but their rates kept going up every time we renewed, so we decided to change to Nationwide because the rates were less. I must say this has been the worst mistake of my life.
Nationwide made sure to draft money from my credit card monthly. It has been nearly a year we haven’t needed them until recently when our garage door started giving us problems. My husband and I both called repeatedly (to a NON toll-free #)and were never able to speak with anyone. I sent an email requesting service around the first of June; to date,I have not received a response. Also, none of the links on the website work except for the “contact” link.
I finally sent an email on this evening canceling my policy (which doesn’t seem to exist anyway) and I’m going to cancel the monthly debit from my account.
To anyone reading these reviews…. DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THESE PEOPLE!!! They’re probably signing folks up from their living room or something. Please do THOROUGH research before signing up with any home warranty company. I did brief research but didn’t seem to see any of these negative reviews until too late.
I’m suing them for trying to retroactively canx my warranty after I filed a claim on a vital system. I ended up paying the costs myself after Mr. Paul Weisenhower tried to pass off a story that I had been informed by email that I was canx over 30 days ago, yet I had received no pro-rated refund. Hope they’re not in bankruptcy yet!
Only needed this company once in the year contract period. They refused to repair my frige stating that it wasn’t properly maintained which I don’t agree with but that isn’t my main problem. When it came time to renew my contract, I couldn’t get anyone on the phone. I would call, select the option, and then get disconnnected. After trying all options multiple times and days, I finally got someone on the phone stating that I couldn’t renew my contract because they were no longer servicing my area. By reading the other reviews, I am curious to know what areas they do still service! It would have been nice to know that they weren’t servicing my area before I had to call to renew my contract, nice customer service!
I cannot get an email reply much less a phone number that works. I was told by a local electrician that no one will work with them. I should have done more research before they took my money. Of course I found this out after my A/C went out, in Texas with triple digit days. Thankfully it was little problem, but I ended up paying out of pocket.
I am now looking for a new warranty company.
It’s very simple; Nationwide-home-warrenty is a rip-off. You (we) do (did) not get what you pay for. Just alot of grif and run-around. Keep your money or burn it, atleast you get a little heat.
Stay AWAY from Nationwide Home Warranty. They are a bunch of SCAMMERS. They took my annual fee ($345) and basically told me they don’t service my area anymore. I did not receive anything regarding this change and i will never get my money back. Good luck getting someone on the phone. Can not believe this company is still in business. They need to put the owner behind bars for life.
I purchased this service in Dec 2008, and used them one time. I had been paying them every month since then and needed service on my A/C unit a week ago. I tried calling for 3 days to request service and finally got an email and phone call saying they no longer service my area, and effective 30 days after my last payment I will no longer be covered. Is this a joke or what…I asked about a refund and they said I’d get my last payment refunded. They need to stop these people from ripping off the public. Sounds like they don’t service any of the 50 states in the U. S.
I had AHS coverage on 3 houses. I decided this year to try a different company since AHS started to get squirrely. I paid for a 12 month warranty with Nationwide Home Warranty Company. I made a claim on my fridge..and they came and fixed it with no hassel. Then 3 or 4 months later, I try to call, then email and call again 2 weeks later. Finally get someone on the other end and they inform me that the company is no longer performing service in my area. I ask when I will get a refund and she says in 2-3 weeks I should receive a refund. I won’t hold my breath and I won’t recommend this company.
I work for a contractor who also has been ripped off by Nationwide Home Warranty. For all citizens of NC & SC, DO NOT PURCHASE from these people. They begged us to do work for them in Jan. 2010 during a snow storm all the way to Hendersonville, NC stating that no one else would get out in the snow. Can’t stand to see someone in need, so I sent a service person 60 miles one way to do the call. It was irreparable and for the time and trip charge we charged Nationwide $110.00. They refused to pay us. In May the customer, so pleased with our service and promptness, told Nationwide that they wanted our company to run another call to their house. Nation wide begged again and we told them, no way. It’s been 6 months and you promised to pay up on 30 days. So they said they were sending a check to us immediately and gave us the check number and so on. However, we had tried to get payment and been treated so rudely by each person we talked to and they laughed when we asked them if we needed to get a lawyer involved and they would hang up. One call I asked the person that was so “dead” sounding, like they had lost their best friend and had no time to speak to me, if they were closing and they were sad because they were losing their job. She cussed me out and hung up. We told them that we would not do any more work for them until the check cleared. The check did come, I deposited it and it came back stating the account was frozen/blocked. They are as the other contractor said, a scam. Fortunately we only have the one service call we have lost money on. Plus now we have a bank fee we will never collect. Heads up folks, Choice Warranty is another one. We have two calls with them they refuse to pay. We work for American Home Shield. They are wonderful. That’s who you can trust. They don’t cover in refrigerator ice makers, though. I think you can get that covered for a little more money. Ask them.
I have had home warranty through Nation Wide for 11 months. I prepaid the cost for one year, but I have not needed to use nationwide for any service calls until yesterday. I became suspicious when I called their 800 number to file a claim on my refrigerator and found it was changed. The agebt said my policy was canceled months ago because they stop servicing in my area. I did not receive any notice of cancellation or refund. When I asked to speak to a manager, she said someone would call me back within an hour but never got a call back. I attempted to reach them but they kept pushing me through the same circular prompts. I am out of the money I prepaid for a full year of my policy with them, have a cancelled home warranty with them that I was not aware of, and have to pay to fix my refrigerator.
I Have not needed to use nationwide for any service calls, but I needed to renew my contract. Three weeks of sitting on hold. 2 emails asking someone to call me so I can renew and nothing. I don’t think anyone works their.
meanwhile policy expired and my home is not under warranty.
Not a good company if theres noone to anwser the phone/email!
In the past 2 months I have e-mailed, and called to file an air-conditional claim with no reply to my requesst. I spent over 10-20 minutes on hold and tried every menu option but no answer. I even tried to send a fax but the fax number did not pick up. I called and sent an e-mail inquiry to BBB. As of today, I still haven’t heard by this company regarding our claim for $435.00. I do not recommand using this company.
