| Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights
Note: This company may have sold warranties using the brand name Champion Home Warranty

I cant believe how horrible this company is
This is the worst company I have ever worked with! Complete scam! They take your money and then will not cover anything in your contract. The customer service is terrible, they will not call back when they say they will, it took them 1 week to call in a claim to the repair company, and then wouldnt cover it due to “lack of maintence” – which is just what they say to get out of covering what they should rightfully cover under the warranty. This warranty is useless! Even the subcontractor said they never cover anything he calls in. I have been scammed by Nationwide Home Warranty so buyers beware, THIS IS NOT A COMPANY YOU WANT TO WORK WITH!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with everyone else on here. I should have reseached them a little more before I purchased the Contact (The worst mistake I have ever made in my life) Please listen to everyone on here don’t use nationwide home warranty THEY SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been calling for 2 months for them to get someone out to look at my well pump and I’m still waiting. They deny every claim you make. I never had the problem with AHS.
DO not get in bed with these people.
These people are liars – their website is a lie, their customer call center phone scripts are lie. I just had a problem, and they simply said they wouldn’t cover it. They changed the rules as they go. I have been calling them since May 3 when my AC went out. They DID NOT return my calls. I called again today, May 5. Someone came out. He said the unit needed to be replaced. Nationwide Home Warranty Liars said they wouldn’t cover it. What would they do? Nothing, they said. I asked to speak to a manager. Guess what. The ‘Manager’ I spoke to, Jenay Johnson, doesn’t have a supervisor! Wow! I forgot to ask if she were the President. Oh, and Nationwide doesn’t have a corporate telephone number. That’s interesting, don’t you think?
BELIEVE ME, everyone of this bad reviews, I agree with . They are a fraud & scam. So if you read these reviews & yet buy their policy, you are not only wasting your money, but will end up with a lot of frustration & lies. They find excuses for every repair, put you on hold for hours & finally deny the claim.I am experiencing it, right now.
I have this company for my apartments and my home. They give you every excuse in the book for not returning calls. Their pat answer is someone will contact you in 2 hours. (translated that means 2 days). The first time I called them out to my apartments to fix a window air conditioner they said it wasn’t covered. Next I called them to repair a baseboard heater. You guessed it, not covered. There isn’t a number lower enough to describe their customer service!
They refuse to pay claims that are clearly covered and customer service is horrible
They don’t even look at what type of contract you have before they start refussinf your claim.
I have been waiting for someone to call me about servicing my sprinkler system for almost 2 weeks. They don’t even have an email address!
If you have read this far… and you still want to buy a contract with this company, God help you. They deny everything. What I wonder is, why oh why do the service companies work for them? I have just spent an hour on the phone with their reccommended plumbing company who incorrectly diagnosed a stoppage and of course… you guessed it! claim denied. I called my own plumber and he was here and gone in 30 minutes after clearing the stoppage. NWHW is a total fraud and scam as you must know by now.
Strange that there is no negative rating available for this company. . . . I have worked in disputes for corporate america for over 10 years and have never believed any of these sites, until now. . . I purchased my Warranty when I realized my husband was leaving us- less than a week before we bought our first home. Bought the coverage thinking it was a smart decision for a single mom. 6mos later my heater broke. Claim was denied. I was never notified; just ignored. Finally got a hold of ‘Brian Cooper’. He lied. He was condecending. He contradicted every document I had received from this company. Said they needed maintenance records. Does a home ever come w/maintenance records? Mine didn’t. . their site (under FAQ) says that I don’t need em. Oh- and I paid for 2yrs of coverage upfront. I feel like I am echoing the other comments above me, but I have submitted complaints to BBB and AG of NY. what can we do now? I still don’t have a working heater or my $$. **** one more thing- be careful w/the contract. when i submitted my claim, they tried to make me sign another contract w/only a 1year term!! it included the right to bill me (again!!)
I am extremely dissatisfied with their service. Basically no service only received an e-mail. I paid in march 15th 2009 for one year. The agent was insisting for a 5 year policy i am glad i did not buy that. Policy was paid on March 15th, effective April 4th. When made the first claim april 20th 4:30, they said they do not have the contract signed! faxed the signed contract April 20th, spoke with them 3/4 times every day since then. No one noted down the details of the problem. I had a leaking GAS range, disconnected by Washington gas for repair. After 2 days, April 22nd, they e-mailed me a local company name, i called them, they mentioned their company cannot handle such repair. I e-mailed them promptly and dis not hear from them at all. This is past 36 hours the first time the problem was reported. 1. They should have a ticketing system, Ticket should be opened on customers first call. They did not! There is no track of your request aparently. 2. Note down as much details as possible in the ticket they did not! No one even asked me in detail the problem so far. 3. Quickly evaluate the problem and identify someone who can fix this within 24 hours. They took 48 hours and identified someone who can not fix this! 4. I called for a supervisor to cancel the policy for a refund, Supervisor mentioned it cannot be cancelled! I am trying my best to come out. Please watch them out! As per their recorded message Fire and Flood are considered as emergency. We usually call 911 at that time and NOT home warranty! I do not understand how are they doing business in this country.
BUYER BEWARE! This company should not be in business. After 4 phone calls, a tech finally came out to repair our dryer. After the tech left (without repairing our dryer), Nationwide refused to authorize the repair because we don’t have maintanance records. Who pays someone to come out and look at appliances that work fine? We have had home warranties from other companies in the past and never had these problems. I am very upset with the entire situation.
This company is HORRIBLE!I used my credit card and have disputed my bill. After my washing machine bagan to leak it took 6 days to send out a technician (That cost $50) and he told me it was too old to repair. They then asked me for maintenance records on my washing machine. I asked who had maintenance records on their washing machine? I have never had a problem with it. If you are reading this you can note that one respodent said that they complained to the State of Calif. and now Nationwide can no longer do business in that state. I plan to try to get the same thing to protect all Arizonians. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY_THEY ARE A FRAUD!
This is 100% true – Nationwide 100% denied my claim for my AC and they denied my claim. They said they needed receipts for proof of cleaning and I sent them the past 3 years worth and then they said they needed to see the ‘work orders’. Well, this company is a 1 man show and he doesn’t do work orders. They continued to deny the claim. There is a single mother with a new-born baby in the middle of a Texas summer and they have put us through 5 weeks of loopholes just to deny a valid claim. On top of that – they can’t let me ‘talk’ to the team that’s denying the claim. They only say that that team consists of their CEO’s and Owners and that they don’t talk to the customers. They won’t tell me what is ‘sufficient’ for them to consider this a valid claim either. They just keep stating that this is ‘insufficient’. And THEN – they say that I’m ‘PAST’ my cancellation date and therefore won’t cancel my policy. They not only say they can’t cancel it but gave me NO idea on how to stop the service! DO NOT GIVE THESES SCAM ARTISTS YOUR MONEY!
WE JUST RECENTLY PURCHASED AND OUR REFRIGERATOR WENT OUT SEVERAL WEEKS LATER. tHE TECH CAME OUT AND SAID IT NEEDED A COMPONENT REPLACED. NATIONWIDE THEN CLAIMED THEY NEEDED MAINTENANCE RECEIPTS BEFORE THEY COULD AUTHORIZE ANY REPAIRS.MEANWHILE ALL OF OUR FOOD HAD SPOILED. FROM READING THE COMMENTS IT APPEARS THAT THEY HAVE A PATTERN AND PRACTICE OF DENYING CLAIMS WITH THESE TYPE OF EXCUSES. WE ARE ATTEMPTING TO GET OUR MONEY REFUNDED. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEIR REPRESENTATIVE HUNG UP ON US AFTER WE TRIED TO HAVE THIS ISSUE RESOLVED. THEY ALWAYS CLAIM THAT THERE IS NO MANAGER AVAILABLE TO ADDRESS THE ISSUES. I AM ASSUMING THAT A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WILL BE IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE. I JUST WISH WE WOULD HAVE DONE MORE RESEARCH PRIOR TO BUYING THIS FRIVILOUS HOME WARRANTY PRODUCT. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE.
I used this company to provide a home warranty when selling my home. A year later they billed me again! When trying to resolve the issue I called multiple times a day for over a week and was regularly put on hold for over 15 minutes, occasionally hung up on while on hold and the billing department was in a meeting for a week! I left so many messages to which I never got a return call I felt like a stalker. To this day this issue is under review by my bank who will most likely resolve the issue before I ever speak with the appropriate person at Nationwide.
Customer Service is non-existent. A week after our call for A/C service in Houston, TX …we have heard nothing. We have several rentals that we paid for warranties on and each has been a major nightmare getting service. Have had other warranty companies like Old Republic and American Home Shield and Nationwide is so bad…I regret not renewing with my previous companies.
If you’re looking for a home warranty contract, DO NOT use Nationwide Home Warranty. The business they operate fraudulently advertises to resolve claims quickly and easily, a total scam. They deny all claims over $100, based upon their request for maintenance records. If you have been vicitimized by this company please submit complaints to:
1. The Better Business Bureau (in your home state and in New York), 2. The New York Attorney General, 3. The Federal Trade Commission, and 4. The Department of Real Estate (in your home state)
3 months after buying my house our HVAC stopped working. They sent someone to fix it if the problem was under $100, but when they learned it would cost much more to replace my compressor, they requested maintenance records. I provided them with the receipts for furnace filter, testament that I cleaned the system out with a vacuum homse attachment when I replaced the filters, and a copy of the home inspection showing that the HVAC system was well maintained and in proper working order when the house was purchased only 3 months prior.
My problem is that I can not provide them with the maintenance records belonging to the previous owner because we have no way to contact them.
I repeat, if you have been victimized, please submit complaints to the Better Business Bureau (in your home state and in New York), the New York Attorney General, the Federal Trade Commission, and the Department of Real Estate (in your home state).
One word: deplorable. Run away…
Customer Service has gone down hill in the past year. Hard to get service on a claim. The supervisors are rude and hang up on you and you are unable to speak to a manager as they all say they are. DO NOT BUY
I really wish I would have came across this website before I purchased! Their customer service sucks. They refused to fix the issue and it takes forever for them to dispatch the ticket to the contractor. I’ve had several issues with them. The last time i asked to speak with a supervisor and she got upset and hung up on me! I swear I wish we could take this business to court. I tried to cancel the contract and get my money back, but they said you have to cancel within 3 days of purchase! If i knew then what i know now, i would not have wasted my time with this terrible excuse for a company.
Did not pay for a replacement A/C unit after we paid our premium in good faith. The folks you talk to on the phone are not helpful, or friendly. They asked no questions pertaining to the items to be covered, such as age or condition. We were told that it was a pre-existing condition! Of course it was, the unit was there before we bought the property, and we were told not to worry, it would be covered. Avoid this company at all costs!
This company was repeatedly late in responding to requests, and the customer service agents were not helpful or informed. Further, they were not honest nor did they stand behind their claims to repair appliances as promised by the sales representatives. I would not recommend this company to anyone.
My 3 year old washing maching broke. When the repair man came out he told me that a drum was frozen and it would be to expensive to replace. I was told to call Nationwide about it and they insuated that maybe it was never working. Then after another call I was told I never maintained the machine properly. After another call I was told to fax in any paperwork of any service done on machine I did . They still refuse to pay for anything on My washer. I have a copy of 9 unapproved. I was then told that I have to have all appliances serviced . I was never told that . The washer is broken. STAY WAWY FROM THESE PEOPLE THEY ARE NOT HONEST. I STLL HAVE 4 MORE MONTHS LEFT ON MY CONTRACT.I was forced to cancel my credit card that way they can’t charge ne again to renew.
