Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights
Note: This company may have sold warranties using the brand name Champion Home Warranty

PLEASE READ!! DO NOT PURCHASE FROM NATIONWIDE HOME WARRANTY. I REPEAT DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY WITH THIS COMPANY! THIS COMPANY IS THE BIGGEST PILE OF S**T!! They recently denied a claim for their part of the repairs on my AC/heating unit because now all of sudden they want maintenance records, which they never even contacted me to tell me; I had to call them when my HVAC company was all of sudden told by Nationwide they weren’t at liberty to discuss anything with them so I called to find out what was going on, 4 days later. As stated on their website “get you back up and running again fast” is biggest line of crap, don’t fall for it. I haven’t been in the house long enough to give them any records, but BEWARE if you are with this company, this is their hidden loop hole of getting out of making the repairs if you provide them. Tell them to shove it if they want maintenance records before approving anything. They tried to tell me that it was clearly stated in my contract that maintenance records would need to be provided for approval. BULLS**T! It does NOT state that anywhere in my contract. I’ve already two attorneys reread the contract and I can obviously read because they said the same thing. I addressed this to several contacts at Nationwide and the next person whom replied to that said it’s not us asking for them it’s the manufacturer. SERIOUSLY, DO I HAVE RETARD WRITTEN ACROSS MY FOREHEAD. I have now filed a complaint with the BBB in New York and with my States Office of Commissioner of Insurance for Contract Fraud and consulted with 2 attorneys whom said I have a case but to try going through the Office of Commissioners Office first because they will investigate fraud acts among companies like this for free to you. They do handle problems like this for the fact that you are in a “contract” with a warranty company. I highly recommend anyone who has been snowed and lied to even once on a denied claim they were suppose to cover to contact supply all written correspondences, GET IT IN WRITING; talk as little as possible with them via phone; keep all the emails and your contract and contact your local Office of Commissioner of Insurance and file a complaint TODAY against them. I am real live person speaking first hand; I even have records from my building inspector and appraiser that the AC/heating unit was working properly at the time of purchase so I am not trying to get away with anything and get them to fix something that was previously not working; they need to honor what they say they’re going to do. If still in doubt about this company; email me and I’ll show you proof of all the emails from this malicious company. wranglerbrand@yahoo.com
Please read once. Its a trap.I am a real person. I called first time for my dishwasher.Service providers from my area refuse to do work for this company.I called everyone nothing happened.I asked for my money back but no one even try to contact me from the company and also not providing me service.I am stuck. Cant do anything.I email them and no answer.I am cursuing the day I bought the service from them. Please read it before you go for this company.
HAD FOR TWO YEARS TWO CALLS ON PLUMBLING ONE WAS COVERED ,BUT SEDIMENT IN WATER HEATER WASN’T COVERED MY CONTRACT
DIDN’T SAY THAT,IT WAS COVERED IN MY CONTRACT
Every review here is absolutely true. This is worst company I’ve ever had to deal with. I so wish that I would have found this site before I gave this company my money. Like everyone else, they’ve denied the claim on my a/c because of maintenance, even though I was able to provide them with maintenance records for the entire time I have owned the home. DO NOT do business with this company!!!!!
NATIONWIDE BLOWS!!!! I just wrote a long explanation which resulted in a page error. So I just gave you my talking points
NATIONWIDE SUUUUUUCKKS
This company is a scam. Do not get sucked into this – If you have problems with an appliance re: ceiling fans to washers or ovens – they expect you to have a maintenance log for all – if you don’t – it’s all out of pocket! Read customer reviews- I wish I did. They claim 48 hrs for a licensed contractor to look at your appliance- Try 3.5 weeks. Customer service consist of 1 or 2 people – Who are the rudest you’ll ever come across.
They couldn’t fix my dryer- so Nationwide offered me a cash settlement of $125!!! I paid just under a $1000 for the dryer ( LG )
Nationwide Home Warranty is one of the most unprofessional companies I have ever delt with. They sent a unquailified repair tech out to look at my AC unit that was tripping a breaker. The rental home is out of state and the tech called me and said what the issue was. I misinformed the tech and said the part had been replaced before when in actualality I got my rental properties mixed up. The unit he was working on was in a new townhome. Thus the tech called NWHM and said the unit was replaced before and the rejected the claim costing me $900. NWHM wouldn’t budge or even send another tech out to the house to see that the unit was in new condition.
horrible company, don’t give them your money.
DO NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY! It is not worth the $5 a month savings. We have had a broken washing machine for 3 weeks now and cannot get a hold of the contractor. We got NO help when we called Nationwide. Their managers over there are some of the most incompetant people I have ever spoke with. Very unprofessional, very slow.
I can only agree with Beverly. But be aware, if you try to cancel your contract, they don’t give you a choice but to call them, you will get some customer service person on the line and they give you false or inadequate information. I canceled my contract well before the 1 year was up to receive a refund for year 2 and 3, just to find out 1 month later that they had not canceled my policy, and they did not want to give me a refund. I had to fight and then found out, that all cancellations had to be in writing, but nobody informed me of that, and nobody gave me any address or a fax to submit this to.
All in all a very non-trustworthy company, extremely rude people, even the supervisors, who will not listen to customers and will not respond to requests.
And by the way the technicians they certify are less than qualified technicians. They don’t know what they are doing.
I would highly recommened anyone with Nationwide cancel the service at one. I have had 2 claims, first was not covered, Grant Plumbing came pulled my refrigarator out from the wall, said would back shortly, took my 63.00 have not heard from him yet, after 2 days, I finally gave Nationwide a call, rude customers service people told me it was not covered. My second claim, my air condition was not working, customer service told me this was not an emergency go to a hotel or neighbors house hung the phone it. Called back manager would call me within the hour, it has been 10 hours have not heard from anyone. I will spend my time getting this company out of Mississippi, got to be a fraudlent company with this kind of service.
Unfortunately, I did not do my research on Nationwide Home Warranty before I purchased a year’s worth of coverage back in the spring of 2008. The first time I called was when the blower on my dryer went out. I had to call Nationwide at least twice before they assigned a repairman to my claim. It took the repairman over a week before he appeared and he changed his arrival date at least two times and snapped at me once because I couldn’t understand why he never came on the dates that he originally stated.
I made another service call a little over a week ago (5/21/09) and to no avail. They wanted me to sign a contract, stating that I would give consent for them to bill me but I already prepaid. I asked if it could be emailed to me, which it wasn’t. After calling two more times, they realized they were sending it to the wrong email address. Today, I called and asked for a fax number, which did not work. I called again and the rep said that the number was correct but it still doesn’t work. I give up. I should be able to find better service under a rock.
Mother has this company and all they ever do is deny the claims. They claim to have someone call with in 24 hrs except holidays 48 hrs. Well it has been since Saturday before Memorial day today is the 28th Thursday still no service being handeled or call backs. Customer service has been rude as could be , and admitted they wont refund premium cause they dont do that. HAHA What A SCAM. They are attacking my elderly mothers money and wont fix anything. They seem to have no morals !! Will never recommend them!!
I have been with this company for 3 months, and it has been a total nightmare. I filed a claim on 5/25/09 at 2:19pm and have not yet received a service call. The date and time is 5/28/09 9:37am. I called to check on the status of my claim and the complacency of the 2 representatives I spoke to was outrageous. One of the reps was a suppervisor. They provided an incorrect fax number on my warranty for the signature page and refused to accept responsibilty. The number is clearly and boldly listed on the sheet and I have a fax confirmation to show the fax was sent. They made me fax it again to another number and refused to do service until it was received. This was on 5/26/09. I immediately faxed it and STILL have not received service. I have tried to contact “Mr. Craig” via email with no response. I contacted the BBB and filed a complaint. Hopefully, this will put some heat under them to come service my A/C in this 80 degree weather.
VERY POOR SERVICE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE!
I called again and spoke to another rep today and he was apologetic, however, now I have to wailt ANOTHER 24 hours for a call. REDICULOUS!
Wish there was a negative rating system. They charged my credit card for $2400, then went out of business. DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THESE INSURANCE SCAM PEOPLE. CAN’T BELIEVE ANYONE WOULD ACTUALLY WORK FOR THEM, UNLESS THE PEOPLE AT THE COMPANY OWN IT, THEN IT MAKES SENSE.
Have called the credit card company to dispute charges as fraudulent.
Researching another company, but can’t trust anyone any more.
I am a customer for 22 months and received two repairs so far. The responses were slow but the services eventually were performed properly and I felt satisfied to be a customer….until now! I have attempted to file a third claim for a washing machine and was told that I must first sign a statement or the claim will not even be processed [though I am prepaid through August 15,2009]. The statement has some awkward wording that I “consent that Nationwide Home Warranty can bill me in the method I have provided.” I don’t even know what this means but its strange construct seems to be an authorization that they can dip into the credit card account I used to pay for this year’s contract, and I am not signing it. And they are not processing my claim. So they have turned a formerly satisfied customer who would have renewed into a dissatisfied customer who now must take them to court to recover my fee since I feel this is a breach of contract and they are not entitled to the money since they are not processing this claim. This statement was never previously provided to me and my signature was never previously demanded. Why are they pulling this stunt? I paid for a full year back in August 2008, what is it they want now? Why do I have to agree that they can bill me in the “method I have provided”? Well obviously this is unacceptable. On top of which, I have to fix my own washing machine even though I have a prepaid warranty. When I emailed customer service they said that, “they expect my cooperation.” I feel that prepaying the entire year was a heaping spoonful of cooperation.

Poizner: Be wary of the home warranty scams going around
California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner sends out this alert, warning consumers to watch out for unlicensed companies hawking home warranty policies in California.
Specifically, he mentions Nationwide Home Warranty, which was ordered in March to stop selling the home protection contracts in the state.

Check their license number in your state. Most credit card companies will reverse charges within 60 days of your purchase so check with them and give them a charge back. Cancel your credit card and reissue because they will keep charging on that number.

anybody that buys a warranty from this company will be stupider than i was. i turned in a claim on April 20th, 2009 and here it is May 22nd, 2009 and i still have not had one phone call from these bastards. every time i call, thay have a different excuse, from not having an air conditioning contractor in this town of 225,000 people to “we didn’t receive your fax” after i faxed it four times and got four confirmations that they have received it plus many many more.
i only blame the attorney general were these thieves are for letting them keep cheating innocent people.
i wish there are ratings bellow the one because they deserve a minus five.
any body that needs more documentations as to how lousy the are, just e-mail me and you will have plenty.
this is not sour grapes, every thing IS well.documented
Have gone out of business, will not answer phone calls. Looks like they have now established another company called Choice Home Warranty – beware they are swindlers!!!!!
INTIAL SERVICE CALL WAS OK (ALTHOUGH THE INTIAL CONTRACTOR THEY GAVE ME SAID HE NO LONGER WORKED WITH THEM BECAUSE THEY DIDN’T PAY THEIR BILLS). THE SECOND CONTRACTOR CAME OUT AND SAID A NEW WATER HEATER WAS NEEDED AND THE COMPANY REFUSED UNLESS WE COULD PRODUCE THE REPAIR RECORDS. SINCE WE HAD BOUGHT THE PROPERTY A YEAR AGO FROM AN OUT-OF-STATE OWNER WE DIDN’T KNOW, WE COULD NOT AND THE CLAIM WAS DENIED.
Worst company ever, I wish you had a negative numbering system. They have denied my claim that was their responsibility to repair under the contract. I am unable to reach anyone other then the claim department and the e-mail address to that was given to me for complaints directed me back to the claims office. I have filed a complaint with the State attorney’s office.
I can’t even reach them. I’ve contacted 212-487-4110 consumer affairs in NYC. Found out that they have numerous complaints. Consumer affairs is sending me a form to help get my money back.I believe you need to go after these scammers where it hurts and thats in the wallet.
Terrible customer service they do not give out there names on the call. You out in a claim and they say someone will call you shortly and it never happens. I would not tecommend them for a warranty co. Very unfreiendly there our no upper management to speak to. You have to email to put in a complaint.
Terrible customer service, IF you are able to reach anyone at all. They do not process claims, however, will tell you that someone will contact you shortly…well, that turned into almost a week and still never got the problem fixed. Had to end up calling a technician and paying out of pocket. Stay away from this company. After a year, tried to reach them about policy renewal…it’s been over 2 months and several phone calls later I have given up completely. A total waste of money and wouldn’t recommend them to anyone!
I have read all the reviews about this company after i purchased a home warranty through them and was nervous about placing a claim thinking for sure they were going to deny it and i would end up paying out of pocket for the plumber. So i placed a claim because i had a stopped sink, and although the customer service people are very rude i did have a plumber at my home in less than 24 hours! I hope i get as lucky next time but i would beware when dealing with this company
