| Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights
Note: This company may have sold warranties using the brand name Champion Home Warranty

Wish there was a negative rating system. They charged my credit card for $2400, then went out of business. DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THESE INSURANCE SCAM PEOPLE. CAN’T BELIEVE ANYONE WOULD ACTUALLY WORK FOR THEM, UNLESS THE PEOPLE AT THE COMPANY OWN IT, THEN IT MAKES SENSE. Have called the credit card company to dispute charges as fraudulent. Researching another company, but can’t trust anyone any more.
I am a customer for 22 months and received two repairs so far. The responses were slow but the services eventually were performed properly and I felt satisfied to be a customer….until now! I have attempted to file a third claim for a washing machine and was told that I must first sign a statement or the claim will not even be processed [though I am prepaid through August 15,2009]. The statement has some awkward wording that I “consent that Nationwide Home Warranty can bill me in the method I have provided.” I don’t even know what this means but its strange construct seems to be an authorization that they can dip into the credit card account I used to pay for this year’s contract, and I am not signing it. And they are not processing my claim. So they have turned a formerly satisfied customer who would have renewed into a dissatisfied customer who now must take them to court to recover my fee since I feel this is a breach of contract and they are not entitled to the money since they are not processing this claim. This statement was never previously provided to me and my signature was never previously demanded. Why are they pulling this stunt? I paid for a full year back in August 2008, what is it they want now? Why do I have to agree that they can bill me in the “method I have provided”? Well obviously this is unacceptable. On top of which, I have to fix my own washing machine even though I have a prepaid warranty. When I emailed customer service they said that, “they expect my cooperation.” I feel that prepaying the entire year was a heaping spoonful of cooperation.
Nationwide Home Warranty No FORCED TO STOP SELLING INTO CALIFORNIA NATIONWIDE FORCED TO STOP SELLING IN CALIFORNIA, Florida is also looking into this. Take them to court, small claims in your state, you will win. May 20, 2009
Poizner: Be wary of the home warranty scams going around California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner sends out this alert, warning consumers to watch out for unlicensed companies hawking home warranty policies in California. Specifically, he mentions Nationwide Home Warranty, which was ordered in March to stop selling the home protection contracts in the state.

Check their license number in your state. Most credit card companies will reverse charges within 60 days of your purchase so check with them and give them a charge back. Cancel your credit card and reissue because they will keep charging on that number.

anybody that buys a warranty from this company will be stupider than i was. i turned in a claim on April 20th, 2009 and here it is May 22nd, 2009 and i still have not had one phone call from these bastards. every time i call, thay have a different excuse, from not having an air conditioning contractor in this town of 225,000 people to “we didn’t receive your fax” after i faxed it four times and got four confirmations that they have received it plus many many more.
i only blame the attorney general were these thieves are for letting them keep cheating innocent people.
i wish there are ratings bellow the one because they deserve a minus five.
any body that needs more documentations as to how lousy the are, just e-mail me and you will have plenty.
this is not sour grapes, every thing IS well.documented
Have gone out of business, will not answer phone calls. Looks like they have now established another company called Choice Home Warranty – beware they are swindlers!!!!!
INTIAL SERVICE CALL WAS OK (ALTHOUGH THE INTIAL CONTRACTOR THEY GAVE ME SAID HE NO LONGER WORKED WITH THEM BECAUSE THEY DIDN’T PAY THEIR BILLS). THE SECOND CONTRACTOR CAME OUT AND SAID A NEW WATER HEATER WAS NEEDED AND THE COMPANY REFUSED UNLESS WE COULD PRODUCE THE REPAIR RECORDS. SINCE WE HAD BOUGHT THE PROPERTY A YEAR AGO FROM AN OUT-OF-STATE OWNER WE DIDN’T KNOW, WE COULD NOT AND THE CLAIM WAS DENIED.
Worst company ever, I wish you had a negative numbering system. They have denied my claim that was their responsibility to repair under the contract. I am unable to reach anyone other then the claim department and the e-mail address to that was given to me for complaints directed me back to the claims office. I have filed a complaint with the State attorney’s office.
I can’t even reach them. I’ve contacted 212-487-4110 consumer affairs in NYC. Found out that they have numerous complaints. Consumer affairs is sending me a form to help get my money back.I believe you need to go after these scammers where it hurts and thats in the wallet.
Terrible customer service they do not give out there names on the call. You out in a claim and they say someone will call you shortly and it never happens. I would not tecommend them for a warranty co. Very unfreiendly there our no upper management to speak to. You have to email to put in a complaint.
Terrible customer service, IF you are able to reach anyone at all. They do not process claims, however, will tell you that someone will contact you shortly…well, that turned into almost a week and still never got the problem fixed. Had to end up calling a technician and paying out of pocket. Stay away from this company. After a year, tried to reach them about policy renewal…it’s been over 2 months and several phone calls later I have given up completely. A total waste of money and wouldn’t recommend them to anyone!
I have read all the reviews about this company after i purchased a home warranty through them and was nervous about placing a claim thinking for sure they were going to deny it and i would end up paying out of pocket for the plumber. So i placed a claim because i had a stopped sink, and although the customer service people are very rude i did have a plumber at my home in less than 24 hours! I hope i get as lucky next time but i would beware when dealing with this company
This is for Christine Smith. Nationwide is not licensed to do business in California and a “Cease and Desist” order has been issued by the Attorney General of California. This was in response to my and other people complaints. Helen Stresnek of Dept. of Ins. should have known about this order.
I do not have these details ready hand but can provide them if someone is interested. I worked with Daniel Yonovitz.
I bought 3 policies from Nationwide for 3 different properties of mine. Total cost was over $1500. “Kevin Moore” was the person whom I spoke to on the phone signing me up for all 3 policies. Kevin sent me two emails with the details of items covered in each of the 3 different contracts (the second email covered what the first did not).
After several repairs on varios covered items, Nationwide suddenly stopped being cooperative with on April 23, 2009. This was when I called for another needed repair. The reason for their uncooperativeness was the fact that I had not signed and returned any of my contracts with them (even though I paid in full, all 3 of my home warranties policies with Kevin Moore way back on 01/28/09). Well, to me as soon as Nationwide charged my AMEX the $1500, that was my signature approval. But, the rules of the game have changed, so I decide to play along!!!
I faxed all 3 of my signed contracts to (214) 453-0024, but Shirley, the wannabe CEO of Nationwide, didn’t receive my fax. So Shirley, gave me a different fax number, (718) 943-6924. Well, contrary to the results on all my fax receipts, Shirley never got any of them. She then requested I mail them in the documents. So I did. I sent three signed contracts to Nationwide Home Warranty 100 Church Street 8th Floor PMB 1003 New York, NY 10007. I mail the documents via certified mail using United States Postal Service. On May 11, 2009 “Alfred Rapet” signed for the documents. In the meantime, I also spoke to another girl at Nationwide who refused to give me her name. And finally another girl named Nicole. All of these calls went know where.
Yes, I am calling the only existing phone number to Nationwide which is (888) 500-2110. Now remember, I am still trying to get repair service on a covered item from my April 23, 2009 call-in. Finally, Shirley states the signed contracts have still not arrived via certified mail but she will let me know as soon as the documents surface.
I filed a complaint with the State of California, Department of Insurance. I’ve already been assigned an Associate Insurance Complaince Officer, “Helen Stresnak”.
Please go to http://www.insurance.ca.gov – download the complaint form, print it, fill it out by hand and send it into Department of Insurance, Consumer Services and Market Conduct Branch, Rating and Underwriting Services Bureau, 300 South Spring Street, Los Angeles, CA 90013.
Nationwide is out of New York but if they want to do business in your state they must get licensed and approved by your individual state under the “Department of Insurance”).
This company is a fraud and should be prosecuted for Fradulent Business Practices. I truly beleive that they make is so difficult for your to file a claim that you just give up and pay someone to fix your problem. I was told I would be contacted within 24 hours when I filed a claim. WHen that didn’t happen I called back and was told it would be 4 days. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY UNLESS YOU WANT TO GIVE YOUR MONEY AWAY FOR NOTHING. THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED FOR ROBBING PEOPLE WHO ARE ALREADY HURTING IN THIS BAD ECONOMY. SHAME ON YOU NATIONWIDE HOME WARRANTY!
I waited 4 days to receive a contractor name to fix my AC unit and after the contractor advised them that the unit needed to be replaced they never called me back. I ended up calling.
This is the worst company I have ever worked with, I cant believe that they continue to operate and nobody stops them. First I had a simple claim of my garage door opener not working, they sent a company to look at it and they said it needed to be replaced. They denied the claim saying that I did not have a service history on it. They said it needed to be checked by a licenced techincian every year. Next my furnace went out and it one week later they have still not sent anyone out to look at the furnace. SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM DONT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY
Very slow to respond. Assigned contracts to people that insisted that they did not do work for them. Nasty representatives.
NW does a very good job with it comes to selling their service but a HORRIBLE job when it comes to standing by their word. Had AC issues, told me that FREON was not covered in the process of fixing the repairs. I told them this is the bare necessaity for an AC unit and they told me that doesn’t mean anything. They are also NOT reimbursing the remainder of the amount for 10 months. HORRIBLE, BUNCH OF LIARS & CHEATS. Only after your money. They should be sued and kicked out of this industry as they are robbers
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They took my money via credit card, never sent me a contract after many requests. Never sent a contractor out to my home to fix my leaky faucet. I am disputing this transaction with my credit card company.
THIS IS A FRAUD COMPANY,TO MAKE MONEY FROM WORKING PEOPLE,AFTER STARTING CONTRACT,IF ANY SERVICE REQUESTED,THEY WILL SEND SERVICE COMAPNY AND TOOK SERVICE CHARGE TO CHEAT AGAIN AND NO MORE SERVICE, MAY BE THIS COMPANY WILL REMOVE THIS REVIEW FROM THIS,IF THEY REMOVE IT WILL CONTINUE TO NEWS MEDIA AND OTHER SERVICE TO SAVE PEOPLE FROM THIS FREAUD COMPANY, BE CAREFUL WITH THIS COMPANY
I was verbally told before I received a copy of the contract that certain things were covered under the warranty. When I called to schedule a repair I was told that my request was not covered. This companty defrauds you into believing you that you are going to receive the best in service and that is simply not true. I feel as though I have been robbed. None of the repairs that the average household would have are covered under this warranty.
Avoid this company. What they said in their advertisement are all lies. It took them 3 months to fix my microwave. Rude customer service, rude technicians and a reap off. Get away from them if you don’t want to be their next victim.
I’m also having problems with my AC and here in LV the temperature is 95-98. I first placed the call on April 25 and they’re not fixing it because it’s an expensive repair so they’re fighting me saying it was for lack of maintanance. I have my AC service every year so i don’t know what they’re talking about. they just want to get away with paying. the name of my insurance co is American Home Shield AHS so please pick anybody but them. their customer service is HORRIBLE
I am a new home owner and learning all the requirements of home ownership can be quite a pain. When i decided to purchase home warranty insurance, with several companies to choose from was a big decision. I heard so much good things about Nation Wide, but looking back now i wish i would of had more guidance on selecting home warranty insurance.Only living in my house for eight months and summer approaching, especialy here in Georgia, I am having problems with my A/C not getting cold air.I contacted NW,they are basically giving me the same crap and excuses not to correct my problem.I told them if they can take my hard earned income, then why can’t they honor their part as a home warranty and do what they say.I will stop pay and find a company that stands by their word. To all future home buyers and owners, bypass NW,they are out for your wallet and don’t give a damm about anything except your free money.
This company did not reveal its “cancellation” fee. I called to halt the policy before it even went into effect, just two days after a representative took my card # over the phone. They are insisting on charing 50.00 to cancel, although no policy, coverage or services were rendered. We just needed to void a transaction. But they are insisting on this unfounded, undisclosed fee. Customer service was highly unprofessional. Glad I got out before my policy started, but I’m still fighting for my 50.00. Completely ridiculous!!
