| Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights
NOTE: In December 2011, the company changed it’s name to OneGuard Home Warranty. The company was operating under the name of Service One Home Warranty till date.

I was with S1 for two years before they stopped servicing the Tucson area. Up and to the point where they were no longer servicing my area, I can say that I had absolutely no complaints about their coverage and service. However, there was a failure to communicate with me when they chose to pull out of Tucson, and I found out only when I tried to renew my policy; other than that, I had absolutely no complaints. I hope they come back to Tucson because they are good.
We’ve had nothing but problems. We’ve had to file 3 claims. The first claim was resolved but long after the repair was done to our garage door, they decided it wasn’t covered and we were left with a bill from a provider we wouldn’t have used. The other 2 claims were with our AC. We’ve had someone come out 6 times to address the fact that the AC isn’t working properly. We had several issues with the company they sent and expressed them to Service One. We requested that they send a different AC company out and they refused. We had to use this one specific company. We were sent an ad from service one just weeks prior for our renewal specifically referring to old ACs and how they’re plan had you covered. That’s the biggest reason we were renewing again. We knew it was an older unit. After these AC people’s 6th visit, the problem persisted. Service One then stated it was an ‘efficiency’ issue with the unit due to it’s age and thus there was nothing more they could/would do. All this despite the policy stating items covered that “Become inoperative from normal wear-and-tear and proper usage after the effective date of this warranty contract.” would be repaired/replaced. They haven’t addressed a single issue we’ve had in the years we’ve had them. Definitely not renewing again.
they always try to find away out of fixing the problem and leave you with the bill. have had nothing but problems with this warranty company. what they say is covered never is when you have a problem.
I called ServiceOne for a plumbing issue. The person identified that it was a problem with the faucet. In order to fix it, he said that he had to rip off the drywall. But he mentioned that it is not ServiceOne’s responsibility to fix the dry wall that he ripped off. I politely said that I had to talk to his manager.
Called his manager and his manager said the same thing. They will fix the original problem of fixing the plumbing.. but leave me with a bigger problem of a ripped open drywall, because it is “not covered under our warranty”
)))
Please steer clear away from these bogus warranties that ServiceOne provides. Do your diligence and call anybody from CraigsList.. They work much much better for problems like these.
I had the seller’s coverage on a home while I had it on the market, and we had termites show up in the home. The company showed up on time, came out and treated the area with a quality product (the chemical equivalent of Termidor), and he left the property clean with no evidence that a repair or treatment had been done.
Choose any other warranty company. Service 1 goes out of their way to save themselves money & time. We ended up paying the equivalent of 1 year’s premiums for “additional non-covered” repairs.
The service reps never have the same story and sound like they have a script they read from when difficult questions are posed. It is next to impossible to talk with a supervsior.
Save yourself some time and money by finding a different home warranty company. I wish we would have, but it came with our home and we just kept renewing. Not anymore.
I have maintained the S1HW for 5 years now, because I have 2 problematic AC units that usually have a different problem at least once a year. I have been totally happy with service One. They usually get a person over in 1-2 days, sometimes even on the weekend. I have never been charged extra for the freon – just the standard service fee (which seems to go up by $5 every year). I think a lot of other service contracts will charge you for the freon refills.
They have sent a variety of different AC guys over the years, but they’ve always been professional. Service One is an AZ local corporation and uses local contractors.
At one point they had to replace a compressor, which would have been a $900 repair if I didn’t have the warranty. The service guy said they would give me $300 toward a new system rather than repair it, as an option. I said no thanks, and they happily replaced the $900 compressor. No problems.
The dispatch people won’t set up an appointment directly. They call the contractors and have them call you back, which can take an extra 1/2 day or so.. depending on the contractor.
I just wish the prices didn’t go up every year. My renewal is now $360 and $55 per call.
I owned my home for less than two months and developed a leak in garage ceiling. Leak got bad quickly causing the ceiling sheetrock to sag. Service One assigned a plumber who found and fixed the leaking copper joint and SVC 1 scheduled someone to repair the sheetrock. Great service and immediate response(less than 24 hrs.) I highly recommend Service One here in AZ to all homeowners. The annual fee is totally worth the peace of mind in owning your own home. Any questions feel free to contact me. Vinny
A TRUE SCAM…these are SPINELESS CROOKS!
I was extremely dilligent in trying to find a replacement warranty company for the initial one we had (Old Republic Home Warranty) and thought I did enough due dilligence in picking our next one (Service One Home Warranty).
I was wrong.
My one hope is that this review steers people and their business away from these crooks. I hope that readers looking for home warranties will read this and choose another company.
A couple weeks into buying the warranty with these clowns, our microwave went out and we requested service. After taking a week or so, a technician from J & H Appliance (another worthless company) came out to tell me it would take another 10 days to order the part he needed to fix the microwave. Then after that, a new technician put in the part and then said that the part was faulty and they had to re-order and then re-install. Well after about 2 weeks, we got a call from the Service One where they said that the technician found a lot of grease on the microwave which was causing it to arc and this generally occurs on microwaves that are older than 5 years (which is funny because the microwave is only 1.5 years old). Then they proceeded to tell me there was nothing they could do.
I immediately filed a claim with the BBB and my credit card company.
Hopefully I’ll get a full refund and will then go back with Old Republic.
Do yourself a BIG favor and avoid these crooks at all costs.
Learn from my misery.
Best,
Donny
Beware, run and hide from this company. They have shills working for you that look for any possible reason to deny your claim and if they can’t find one, they will invent one. Request a second opinion and they will deny it and tell you the first and only guy they sent is the “law”. They have no need for a second for a second opinion as they don’t want someone else to you that the first guy is wrong.
I had Service One for more than 5 years. They always took care of any problem we had. We lived in a newer home and we had a problem with our dishwasher, microwave, and refridgerator not all at the same time it was over several years.
When my Refridgerator went out they sent someone out right away. It wasn’t fixable so they offered to replace it. I had already gone out and gotten a new one and they reimbursed me up to the amount that they would have replace the old one for. It wasn’t as much as what my new one cost but it was a plus. They fixed my microwave, and fixed my dishwasher. I have no complaints. Each year the premium did go up about 5 dollars a month but considering I had several claims that is to be expected.
DO NOT USE Service One. They have denied a claim for A/C repair because they say it’s pre-existing. I have hired an outside A/C repair and he says it should be covered. Did not have trouble with the first home I had covered with Service One, but this one is a nightmare. check out Old Republic Warranty company. I’ll use them next time.

I have been arguing with Tina for a week now. I’m finding someone else to fix the A/C. However, I will NEVER recommend Service One again. I will file a claim against them with the BBB. STAY AWAY FROM SERVICE ONE, if I can stop one person from making the mistake of choosing them, it will have been worth it.
Dishonest company. Covered our BBB complaints with untrue statements. My husband and I have used the warrenty service contract from American Home Shield for 10 years on our other home and very happy with the promt service and accountability. Service One contracts with only 1 plumbing company in Phoenix Metro Area..you will wait days for help for a simple clog. If you are on septic..watch out…they will claim only a septic company can clear the clog..I had to hire my own plumber to clear a toilet paper clog..nothing wrong with my septic..selling agent faxed with in an hour of calling him for help for a copy of certification of the septic, on a friday morning..after nearly 4 hours Service One called and stated a 3 day wait for toilets or showers to be cleared. I had a total of 5 requests for help over the 12 months of this contract, non of them covered. We bought this home and the warrenty was selected by Bank of America..I was assured everything from roof to floor was covered. I never got a copy of the contract nor a single repair done by this company out of 5 calls for help please . I do not recommend this company to anyone! Good luck..buyer beware.

This is a complete ripoff. We developed a water leak in the wall behind my kitchen sink. Service One sent a repairman quickly and I paid him the $55 service fee. He squatted down and looked behind the sink and told me that the cabinet and the coutnertop and the sink would all have to be removed and that my warranty didn’t cover that. Then he wanted me to pay him to do the removal. When I called Service One to confirm, they agreed and told me that removing the cabinet, the sink, the countertop, and repairing the drywall and reinstalling everything afterwards, is all my responsibility. What a crock! So now I am $55 further in the hole and nothing has been or will be done to fix the leak until I tear apart my kitchen and then later put it all back together myself. This warranty and this company are a total waste of time and money.
Home Warranties are worthless, but Service One is the worst!
No matter who your warranty is through, READ THE FINE PRINT! Most warranties can be summed up as, “We’ll cover all the stuff that won’t break but none of the things that will break.” I’ve had a Service One home warranty on both of the two recent homes I’ve purchased and I’ve received nothing but disappointment from them on both. The best example is the child-size toilet with no seat described below…
At our first home, the light in the pool went out so I called them since it’s a $300’ish item. I found out that the light isn’t covered because it doesn’t affect the operation of the pool… Thanks for nothing.
At our current home, we’ve had two service calls. The first one was for the A/C tune up since our units are very loud and sound horrible. The policy specifically includes “up to 2lbs of refrigerant if needed” but the HVAC tech just smiled and clarified to me that if there appears to be a leak, they need to charge the system with up to 2lbs to see if there is one and where it is. Then I would be charged for the actual refrigerant needed after the leak is fixed… Fortunately we didn’t have any leaks though. So I paid $85 for a service tech to test everything and tell me it’s fine but not actually change any filters, fill or clean anything, and our units still sound like they’re going to blow up any minute. Thanks for… not much.
The second service call was for two plumbing items. Our kitchen sink barely flows and it turns out that the water line to the faucet is fine, but apparently there is a clog somewhere in the faucet. Of course the faucet isn’t covered! So the plumber stopped working at that point and moved on to the second item, the toilet. Thanks for nothing again.
Our toilet doesn’t fully flush and it has a leak. After taking it apart and snaking it and the sewer line the plumber had to call Service Once several times to ask them what he could and could not do. I could hear the other end of the conversation and basically they were trying everything they could think of in order to get out of paying for anything. He finally said they would replace it, but according to the fine print, they would only replace it with “builder standard” or some other bogus term that basically means the cheapest toilet they can find… not something equivalent to the existing one. I decided to pay the plumber an extra $40 for the “upgrade” to an elongated bowl so it could actually be useful to adults instead of children and little people. Of course $40 only covers a white toilet, not beige like the one being replaced and its shorter than the existing one, but here’s the kicker… Service One’s replacement toilet… the one I paid $40 extra on top of the $55 service fee… the one that’s white, not beige, and short, not tall…DOESN’T EVEN COME WITH A F#$*!%@ SEAT OR LID! Fortunately I “upgraded” to the elongated bowl so we could reuse the old beige seat and lid on the new white toilet.
Service One says they “care deeply about the satisfaction of each of our clients” and that they’re “committed to excellence”. What a load of crap. In fact, that much crap wouldn’t even fit in the seatless kiddie toilet they tried to put in my house!
Five phone calls to Service One between 8:33 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and I recieved no contractor service call. I am left totally in the dark with an Emergency Service request due to complete loss of cooling in extreme tempurature conditions. I have no idea now when the contractor will call, if ever and whether or not I can get Emergency Service over the weekend. I am very unhappy with Service One’s inability to locate contractor’s that are able to call and schedule and give assurance of scheduling an emergency service call. There are plenty of non-Service One Contractors that will guarantee emergency service in 4 to 8 hours. Service One has demonstrated that they lack a sufficient quantity and quality of contractors to meet Emergency situations.
My AC went out on Sat July 16th. They claim and will not have it fixed for THREE days. I am in Arizona my house temperature is 92 degrees. They rot!
Me and my family have been with service one for two years. It was this company that was covering the house when we purchased it, so we just continued with the same company. Ever since we have lived here our a/c would work good for one month and then gradually get warmer (in the summer and colder in the winter), until it finally stopped after two months and blew hot air out. I have had tech after tech come in an “attempt” to solve the issue, only for the same thing to happen a few months later and get the $55 service charge each time (as each time a tech came out it was past 30 days). Finally my a/c went out at 4pm on a 105 degree day. I called at 4:33 pm only to be told it was too late to have a tech come out. With two small children and a 75 year old mother in law, our a/c needed to be fixed “NOW”, afterall that is why we had a warranty for emergencies right? Found out their 24/7 service mentioned on their website is the abbility to get ahold of someone 24/7, not getting any repairs done 24/7. This prompted an imediate search for a different company and I learned more about service one and their policies. For instance, if my a/c unit blew up, and a replacement would cost around $6500, sevice one would only cover up to $1500 and I would have to cover the rest. Like I have five grand sitting around. Also if my hot water heater breaks because of build up of rust (check this out), rust is a result of lack of maintainance on my part as I am suppsoe to have the hot water heater drained twice a year to prevent rust build up…they will not cover this. Also any covered replacement, I will be stuck with the the removal costs of the old unit. So where why does it make sense to have service one for my home warrenty coverage when I still need to fork out the potential bucks for any emergency. Lastley, trying to cancell with them was a nightmare. All I got with this, and all of my past issues, was the rep doing their job to save the bottom line of the company. I could go on but I won’t. Lets just say that a letter to the BBB and fed trade commision is on its way. Just as with any company, do your research. Find out what to ask before you call so you do not get in a situation where you will still have to spend your retirement or kids college fund to have something fixed or replaced, when you are led to believe that this is something you don’t have to worry about by using a specific company. I do not and will not recommend service one to any one.
We’ve had other home warranty companies before and I’m regretting going with Service One. We bought a remodel this last September with a home inspection completed. So when a few minor issues come up I figured Service One could handle it quickly and easily. I was wrong. The customer service reps are quick to assign a contractor to come collect a co pay, if the contractor doesn’t fix the problem that day good luck having any follow up from either party. Service one took two weeks to have my washer dryer looked at and fixed (due to lack of communication between them and the contractor , two weeks to have my refrigerator repaired (contractor needed parts but Service One did no follow up and I had to conduct communications with contractor for 2 weeks even after I left several messages with Service One for assistance. The latest foul up we’ve had goes back to the WASHER. After two weeks Service One decides to cash out our washer because the repairs would cost to much. They explained they would have a check out to us within 5 business days. The check never came in 5 days so I contacted the rep and she emailed me the response that it could take up to 10 business days. I patiently waited 14 business days because of the Thanksgiving holiday to follow up. When I spoke to her she still had no idea what happened and needed to get back in touch with me regarding the check. She emailed me 5 hours later explaining to me she NEVER sent the ticket in to be processed and it was her fault. I contacted this same individual 3 times during this process to be told its still in the works or some company policy on how it takes 7-10 business days to process the check. This is just one example of the lack of customer service I’ve received from Service One. Don’t be fooled by their polite sales pitch or lower copay, you get what you pay for, and I’m regretting it every day. This was my wife’s first home purchase and I was looking forward to enjoying it but the last 3 months have been frustrating aided by the lack of professional courtesy and service. If you are looking to give yourself more stress and aggravation this is your home warranty company. ServiceOne more like ServiceNone
