| Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights

After 10 years of paying on this, decided to use it. I had 4 appliances that needed repair. The bottom sprayer of my dishwasher broke off, denied because the support broke and that is part of the cabinet and therefore a structural issue. Washing machine upper agitator not agitating, denied because its an agitator. Cooktop and double wall oven not working (fortunately this was just a breaker issue). However, if something had been wrong with the cooktop, I was told that it would have been denied because I had replaced some parts on it myself a couple of years ago. So, they looked at 4 appliances, repaired 1 and 0 were covered. The 1 that was repaired cost me $60 over the deductible. Bye, bye TP.
Horrible, fraudulent company. Cancelled me after one claim but said I failed to renew. Different story and dates from each person I talked to. Renewal notice was sent to insured address and that phone number was still in their system even though in 2008 I had called and changed to our current address and phone number. That house has been on the market for 2 and 1/2 years and we haven’t lived there in that long. No supervisor was on board when I called after 5:00. So hard to get the claim taken care of when we had one on May 5th, 2009. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.
I have had this service through my mortgage company for a couple of years. Recently had the compressor to my 7 year old fridge fail, and they replaced it. It went out again, and they replaced again. It went out a third time, and they sent an electrician that found a bad outlet. The electrician replaced the outlet on the spot, and Total Protect then replaced the compressor. So far, so good. I’m pleasantly surprised by the service.
TotalProtect is a 100% scam operation. After reading all these, I can only conclude that despite whatever the webmasters say, the positive reviews for TotalProtect on this site are fake. My opinion is that TotalProtect has people who regularly visit this site to write fake positive reviews. TotalProtect is a 100% scam operation that operates as government tolerated organized crime. My experience has been like so many others, TotalProtect is designed to get your money and then spend all their time trying to ignore your problem and/or come up with new ways not to pay your claim. TotalProtect should have been shut down by the U.S. Justice Department years ago, but I am sure they’re too busy with GoldmanSachs right now.
I HAVE HAD TOTAL PROTECT FOR 4 YEARS. THEY HAVE SAVED ME SO MUCH MONEY. I ONLY PAY 36.95 A MONTH MY DEDUCTIBLE IS NOW $75 BUT WAS $60 WHEN I STARTED BUT IN THIS TIME THEY HAVE SERVICED MY AIR SYSTEM, REPLACED MY AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM TOTALLY, FIXED MY HEATER, FIXED MY WATER HEATER. SO HONESTLY I CAN AFFORD $40 A MONTH COMPARED TO HUNDREDS AND EVEN THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AT ONCE. I JUST CALL GET A CLAIM NUMBER AND THEY HAVE CONTRACTORS THAT DO THE WORK. I RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE.
No problem here….I read the T&C’s upon receipt and elected to sign up. 3 years ago, I signed up a bit sceptical, but I have to say every time i have a question there customer service and claims people are friendly and informative. My neighbor has since signed up 6 months ago and already had an unfortunate incident impacting his wall wiring and water lines. TotalProtect was called and repairs were made eliminating the need for complete destruction of home walls.
HMS sent out a plumber to replace our water heater. The plumber they sent caused damage which neither the plumbing company “C&P Plumbing” nor HMS would cover to fix. HMS said their promise that “covered repairs are protected for 180 days.” only covers the parts repaired and not the work performed by the plumber. Since the plumber through his work cause another problem HMS would not cover it. The plumbing company also denies causing the problem, even though it occurred after they finished their work and a home inspector months before cleared everything as working correctly when we bought the house. I contacted HMS numerous times, each time they said they would call me back after reviewing the claim but they would fail to call me back. After asking to talk to a manager they refused and told me I had to contact their Complaints Department in writing.
total rip off .
I am a satisified customer. Overall service provided excellent with no additional cost.
I have to admit I was a bit sceptical on my expectations of the warranty my wife purchased for the home. However, after filing our first claim, the company is definitely reputable and thorough. Having read through the terms and conditions, I knew exactly what was and was not covered and I was ok with it. The service rep was timely, effective and pleasant. I am happy with TotalProtect.
i am sorry to give them five stars the first time because if you neeeded them second time your out of luck, even on an repaire was done by them. repaire people comes to the house are the less experinced out there and their job is done wright. in any way for my experince with this company is pay every month ,that what they wont is your money and just pray nothing will fail at your house because its not being repaired . pay service call to a company that you know your getting service from but total protect only a repoff. i had to fixe the wirring on my heat my self so my house want burn down + my new fernce makes a hum noise they wont fixe it , i wish i can have my old heat back it will still better then any junk they use.read the final print stop waisting ur money end of every month ,put this money on a side if any thing fail at the house money that is saved may buy top brand name and a respectible service company will do the job.how do you feel when you pay every month for 2 or 3 years then here comes the summer and aircondition fail ,you call they deny your claim . stop waisting your money invest on your own.
the worse customer service i ever seen . repaire people they use are the worse experinced out there. they might fool you the 1st time but after that all they want is your payment every end of month, just pray nothing fail at the house they will say anthing ro blaim it on any so they dont have to cover it.
I had been paying for 8 years through my mortgage company and hardly used the service, last year I had furnace issues 5 times, each time they sent a different company to address the issue. The last person disabled the system and said it could not be repaired and said it was my fault and that it was rusted out. On each of the previous visits, the provider repaired or installed a new blower or any other small part inside the furnace to get it working again. The furnace was 20 years old. The reason I had contracted with the company in the first place was because I had older equipment and appliances! Total Protect voided my warranty and I had to pay out of pocket $3500 for a new furnace. Once they realize they have to replace something they will void your warranty.
First of all, the 24/7 is a lie. Yes, you can call 24/7, but if your air conditioning goes out, they don’t consider it an emergency unless the temperature is like 95 degrees, so they will not authorize an after hours call. Our unit went out on Good Friday, and the repair company could not come out until Tuesday; however, they had an opening, and came out on Monday. They took our $75 deductible, not $60 as advertised on the website, and disappeared, indicating that they needed to get authorization from the insurance company. Today is Wednesday afternoon, and we have not heard back from the repair company, nor have they returned our calls. We called the insurance company, and they advised that the contractor has never called in for authorization, but they did not offer to send out another company to get our problem resolved. Total Protect needs to pay attention to these reviews, and get rid of companies that provide inferior service. (We had excellent service on getting our water heater replaced and our dryer repaired, but this is ridiculous.) I have medical problems that make it difficult to tolerate the heat, so I am really irritated at the poor, poor customer service. Also, the deductibles increase almost every year. We have had the plan for 10 years, and the deductible has gone for $30 to $75.
Quick, Friendly and easy to work with. I called in for service, received a confirmation number, they contacted the repair facility and within hours some one was there to fix my washer. I’ve lost confidence in Maytag but gained confidence in Total Protect Warranty.
After reading the post all I have to say is that if you read your contract then you would know what is covered and not covered. And if you never received a contract after signing up the first thing that you should do is request one before placing a claim. And instead of signing on completely you should only sign up for a review period.
I’ve had this warranty for almost 1 year now. This past Tuesday my water heater burst. I immediately called the warranty company who gave me my claim number and the number of the contractor that would service my issue. I called the contractor and was immediately given a date for them to come to my house (the very next morning, which could have been that night but I had to work). So, the plumbers came out on Wednesday, very professional and courteous, decided that I needed a new water heater and they explained everything to me. Told me it shouldn’t take more than 48 hours. Well, today is Friday and I’ve already had my new water heater installed, again by the same courteous and professional people that came the first time. I actually had a different warranty company previously and was not happy with them, so I switched to Cross Country through my mortgage company. I would recommend this company to anyone. Being a fairly new home owner (less than 2 years), I’ve been comforted by the fact that Cross Country really stood by what they were supposed to do. Thank you!!
This company is a flat scam. I had a home air conditioner fail 4 times paid deduct and in end they denied claim because rust or corrosion is not covered on the evaporator coils. Fact is the leak was not even associated with the colil but the rust on brackets holding the evaporator coil in place was the problem. Leak was on out side evaporator coil leaking in attic. Company did not address problem. Also people they sent out did not come in company vechicles and came in personal cars. I ask for license for A/C repairs and they had none. By the way I am ceritified in A/C, so I know a scam when I see one. Also had refrigerator fail due to leak. Same type of people came out. First one order part and when installed it failed to fix the unit. Second person came out and tried to charge $100 to install service port on the refrigerator to check low voltage draw from compressor. On top of the $75 duduct. I told them hell not. Got part for $3 and installed. Called company up told that had leak behing the paneling and had no freon. They failed replace or repair unit. By the way I am a certified Master Tech. that has worked for a Chrysler for over 20 years. Seen these warranty companies before. They collect your money and nothing more. Can not believe I feel for this one. Highly recommend not getting this company at all for future repairs
I have had no issue with Total Protect at all. I read the T&C’s upon receipt and elected to sign up. While some of you may have had a bad experience, I cannot say that I have. Over the past 2 years (Since I moved into a 15 year old home)I have had to replace A/C, both upstairs and downstaris Toilets and Clothes Dryer…all replaced with my deductible!!! Anyway, sorry, but I had to post since generally postings are for those that have had an unhappy experience. I have not.
10 year old dishwasher broke; the door would not seal and therefore would not cause the dishwasher to activate. Because it was the dishwasher face, it was considered “cosmetic and not mechanical.” Do NOT use this company – this was the only significant claim I put in, and it was refused. I cancelled my policy.
This is one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with and will be cancelling my policy. apparenty GMAC owns them? I had a dishwasher problem and they replaced it, but installed it incorrectly and it keeps holding water, it also will not open more than 12 inches because it hits against the bottom of the cabinet. Have you ever tried to load/unload a dishwasher without opening it all the way up and sliding out the bottom rack? I called them and they will not fix their errors. They said that it cannot be covered under my home warranty again for 12 months! I also called them another time (only twice in three years) to fix my refrigerator. They said that the warranty does not cover the part that is broken. Don’t pour your money down this hole! I have paid them $42.95 a month for 3 years and have basically got nothing but “we don’t cover that.”
my gas heating system was shutdown by my local gas company during yearly inspaction and total protect replaced it quick. all i had to pay out of pocket is $400 for $10 worth of duct work. total protect is good but they use cheap technicians.
I wish I had read these review before contracting them. They are the worst of the worst. I don’t know how they contract but it has been 4 days and I still don’t have my dryer fix. The 2nd tech came out (the 1st one never made it)took my dryer apart and left. I had to call EVERYONE in order for him to call me back to say he was on another service call and will be back – when – sometime today…How comforting.. Where is the “CUSTOMER SERVICE TRAINING”? Will I ever get my dryer fix? What company does not have a corporate number? They refuse to give you corporate number to complaint.
Thank you so much people. There are enough reviews to let me know, “If it sounds like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, guess what?” YOU COULDN’T PAY ME TO GO WITH TOTAL PROTECT AFTER YOU GOOD PEOPLE GAVE ME THIS VALUABLE INFORMATION! THANKS AGAIN.
Trouble with tub drain, took 3 calls to plumbers to get one. trouble with garage door motor 3 calls finelly SEARS CAME. TROUBLE with toilet I have only one it is now 24 hrs later still have not received a call who is comming or when.
