My sister and I were both scammed by this company. I had a warranty with them for 4 years and recommended them to my sister. They went out of business 1 month after they took her money. I felt terrible. I only renewed for one year, but she paid for 3!

actually i would give this company zero stars!!!! They do not answer the phone and promised reimbursement for burse pipe never arrived. They are unethical and at this point since they are never answering calls or emails I can only guess they are out of business. If not don't waste your money, they are worthless.

(Of course it stopped working as the Polar Vortex hit... and it snowed, snowed, snowed...) After 6 days of not hearing from a technician, I called SHW to inquire about the service. I was told the first technician they contracted was unavailable for SOME reason, the 2nd did not service my area. It took over a week more to hear from a technician. And the technicians.... The hours are NOT convenient with their hours. I was finally able to get a technician, but the company itself was not on one accord. After speaking with someone, supplying my information, & setting up a service appt, I was told they would confirm it on the Monday of the appt. I called several times, got no one & of course they were a no show. When someone did finally come out, it was the day after back to back snow storms and I had to sleep elsewhere as it was too cold to sleep in my home. I left a message for the technicians to see if they were going to be able to make the call due to the weather. No response to my message, so I did not risk driving to unplowed streets to sit in a cold home on the hopes someone would show up. But they did show up and of course I was not there. I had to then wait another two days. When the technician did look at my heating unit, he identified issues, one of which included carbon monoxide escaping the unit. BUT he said it should not be a problem since my heating unit was in a room off of the patio & the gas fumes could just go outside... The technician "rigged" the heater so that I would have heat, but he had to check with SHW to see if they covered the work that needed to be done. That was Feb 17, 2014. THIS is the type of company Sensible Home Warranty contracted. I would call SHW at least once every two weeks to check on the status of this claim. The last time I called is when I got the message that the number was not taking calls. And just like others have posted here, I visited the site to see that it has "shuttered" its operations. Gindy, President of Sensible Home Warranty, you have operated a very dishonest business and we, the hard working home owners that have placed our faith and money in your hands, deserve more. I had 2 claims that they asked me to pay out of my own pockets and I have been asking for reimbursements since Jan 2014. They always gave me the runaround. I just noticed that they went out of business. I paid $730 for 2 years contract plus the money they suppose to pay me back around $2000. How can I go after them? as their creditor? any advice?

They ending up calling Sensible Home Warranty multiple times a day for weeks on end until they finally managed to get paid, and of course vowed never to do business with Sensible again. The second time an electrician fixed a wiring problem, but again wasn't getting reimbursed. The electrician sent letters to me and other Sensible customers he'd done work for, threatening to put a Mechanics Lien on our properties. He didn't want to do that, but felt he had no choice; if he had waited any longer the legal deadline would have passed. After enormous efforts, including me making numerous calls to Sensible to demand they pay him, they finally ponied up. At that point I cancelled my policy which had two years left on it, and asked for a pro-rata refund as specified in my contract. After several email exchanges, their salesman agreed that I was due the money. But of course they never sent it. I called and emailed repeatedly, and was told it was on its, or that it would take 10 business days, or that the service representative would contact the billing department, but nothing ever happened. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, the supervisor was always at lunch or on break and would call me back later but never did. I'd be given the billing department's phone number and always get it's voicemail and never a call back. I considered filing a small claims court lawsuit, but would have had to try to serve notice in New York (I'm in California) at considerable cost. And even after winning such a lawsuit I probably couldn't have attached any assets to get Sensible to pay the judgement. So it looks like Sensible Home Warranty will get away with screwing another customer (me). I can only hope that they will quickly go bankrupt before they rip off too many more people, and perhaps one day the company officers will go to jail for fraud. In the meantime, I'll add my voice to the many other warnings, so that potential buyers will know the mess they will be in for and potential contractors will know to avoid Sensible Home Warranty like the plague. ..View less
