Review: It seems to me that Old Republic (OR) uses THEIR interpretation of the fine print to find a way NOT to pay for a repair. My house came with an OR warranty in 2010. Warranty, at that time, was $380 and had a service call price of $50. Within 60 days, the A/C went out. A nice, knowledgeable technician arrived at the house 2 days later and found the fan motor on the outside unit had gone out. He replaced it; no problem. He just happened to have one with him... I read one of the previous posters and noted that OR refused to repair his porch outlet. My second call to OR was regarding MY porch outlet. Electrician came out and fixed it...no problem. By this time, the yearly rate/service call rates had risen to $450/$75. When my disposal stopped working, I performed all the normal homeowner tests (reset button, etc.) and then called OR. Plumber was out a few days later and just happened to have one on the truck. $75 later he was gone and I was good to go. On a hot summer afternoon after a long HOT day at work, I walked in and the house was HOT (south TX). Two days later, an A/C tech is waiting at the house when I get home. After the A/C starts working again, he gives me the diagnosis. It seems the previous owner had to replace the coils in the attic at some point. The coils weren't placed on the proper mounts, using two 4x4's instead. This meant having to lower the primary and secondary pans. In fact, the secondary pan was so low, the drain had been capped and a kill switch added. Now, the fine print comes into play. Although INCORRECT installations are covered, drain pans are not. After OR refused to pay for the repair, the technician left me a quote for $845 to rectify the situation. OR stated in their opinion the problem was caused by the drain pan, not the incorrect installation?!?!? If my inspector had caught this before I purchased the home, either the owner would have made the repairs or I wouldn't have purchased the home. I am seriously considering, at this point, contacting a local reputable contractor to resolve all A/C problems with a new unit, inside and out, but the price is almost prohibitive. Regardless of what my course of action is, I WILL NOT be renewing with Old Republic. After reading the other posts and putting up with the arrogance of this company, I suggest everyone to not walk away from Old Republic but RUN, RUN!!!!!

Review: Initially this company started strong. But over time it became clear, they charged a higher co-pay for sub-par work. The last straw came when I discovered water on the floor upstairs. I called AHS and they sent a plumber. The plumber said it was the AC unit (it's located in a cabinet upstairs). So I gave the plumber the $75 co-pay and AHS sent an HVAC tech. This guy said the pipe was clogged. After a few minutes he left (but not before getting his $75). I don't know what he did, the only *tool* he had was a wetvac. I put a heater towards the wet carpet and figured it would be dry by morning. But it wasn't. The next morning it wasn't just wet, it was soaked. I called AHS who said they couldn't get anyone out here for a week. The smell was horrible and after a few days, I discovered the ceiling in the bathroom on the floor below had become wet (stain). After a week, the same tech came out and said I needed a valve so I could shut off the flow if it happened again. For only $225 he would gladly install it. Reluctantly I paid $225 and again placed the heater towards the carpet. The next morning I expected a dry carpet. I expected too much. The water was everywhere now. It had spread to the floor in the room in all directions. I immediately called AHS who sent another tech. The new tech immediately identified the immediate problem; the first tech had placed his overflow valve on the wrong side of the pee trap. Duh! And, "most companies only charge $125 for installing a pee trap". I was furious! I called AHS who basically said Too bad, so sad. This is an old house, stuff will break. And in the over ten years that I had AHS, they've replaced an AC compressor, and a microwave oven. All the time collecting my $45 a month plus $75 per call. I did not know that they had terminated me as a customer until I called (3rd call) for the washing machine. It was at that time I was advised that they were not renewing my contract. Apparently, if they have to actually replace stuff, you become a risk. But, I insisted they honor the 90 day warranty on the washing machine and this was my 4th call (according to the warranty, after 3 calls and the problem isn't fixed, they're supposed to replace the machine). But, why honor their own policy? They made it clear, this was the last time they were sending anybody out for anything - warranty or not. And they also made it clear that if the problem was not the water pump, they would not pay for it. Wha?? Just because the previous techs thought it was the water pump doesn't mean it's the water pump (obviously), since the machine was still filling with water. They sent Sears (A&E) who was extremely nice and took care of the problem - no charge. So, that' what you can expect from AHS. And don't think about going to corporate, I had to go to corporate to get the microwave replaced. Yup, they had to shell out a whopping $425 for an in-wall microwave and trim kit and that was only after going to corporate. I think the worst thing about this company, this company who fell over themselves apologizing and then dropped me like a bad habit, was the corporate decision not to renew or fix the washer they hadn't been able to fix in three previous calls, came from a customer service rep on the first line of customer contact. It's like permission to be rude to a customer. It had to make the CS rep's day to be deliberately rude. I wouldn't recommend AHS to people I don't like. They charge too much for the co-pay and hire the least qualified technicians. I had to get my refund from the HVAC company who installed the valve in the wrong place for $100 more than most companies charge. Corporate smiles at you while stabbing you in the back. They don't do you any favors and make you feel guilty for giving them over $540 a year in premiums and a $75 co-pay. We had a stellar warranty company when we lived in Co. Unfortunately, AHS or Old Republic were the only choices we had 10 years ago. They should be investigated for their bad faith practices and breach of their own contracts.

Review: I had this service for 2 years and at first everything was great until I realized from a plumber my faucet had been glued down since last plumber and it wasn\'t suppose to be glued down so second sink in double sink had no straight running water. They would not pay to have it fixed and I would have to replace my faucet. What a rip off called to ask about my contract and currently been on hold over 25 minutes for customer support. I\'m just going to cancel.

Review: I called the rep for AHS and advised her that i had a plumbing issue that required a quick solution to avoid water damage. She immediatedly provide me with a name and phone number of someone to take care of the problem. She must have also contacted the plumber as he called me within the hour , and went to the dwelling and corrected the problem. Great response time from rep and plumber. This was good enough for me to consider additng the AHS program to another house that I own. Good job. ESS

Review: I have been having trouble with this home warranty company and the people they contract with. Mainly the A.C. who has had several bad reviews and reports made against them to the BBB. Each time I contacted the A.C. company they blamed AHS. I called AHS they said they have no control over the companies schedule. I have had to use the warranty company (AHS) 3 times and they contract with companies who won't even take time to either explain what you need or be honest about returning to fix. Not to mention they are on a tight schedule which also limits the time they have for customer service. I fought everyone from the AHS company to the businesses they contract with.I highly recommend caution if signing up with AHS for warranty on your home. My family and I will seek another company once our year is up.

Review: Refrigerator not working. Contractor easy to contact and setup appt. time. Arrived on time and problem fixed with replacement part he had on his truck. Easily worth the $100 service charge.

Review: Beginning with the request made by phone, the process was seamless. The automated system allowed me to pinpoint my plumbing issue. I was contacted within 24 hours and scheduled my appointment. The contractor arrived on time and was professional, courteous and knowledgeable. I couldn't have been happer with the service I received. The only downside was that AHS did not cover the cost for what needed to be done. This was a bit of a disappointment. However, I was still happy that my problem was resolved and the cost was reasonable.

Review: I started this American Home Shield Policy in 2006. I paid over $600 a year and I am so very disappointed with them. I had a few claims within that period of time and they did pretty good but we had to wait sometimes for 3 days to get served. When our Dryer stopped drying our clothes, I filed a claim and they said this is the best they can do and it still takes 2 hours or longer to dry sheets and 3 to 4 hours to dry jeans. So the second time I called them they still would not even entertain the idea of replacing that Dryer. I cancelled service after 10 years of being with American Home Shield and paying them About $7,000.00 in premiums. I could have bought a New Dryer from Sears and had the thing paid off within a couple of years instead of paying AHS to help us. My husband is 100% disabled Vet and does not need the stress of American Home Shield. Never Again Laurie & Jim Thomas Archer City, Texas

Review: Customer service has always been polite and helpful when I contact for service. Their vendor are reasonably prompt in getting my service appointment set up. Over all I rate AHS as a 5 of 5. They have saved me money each year in the 10+years I have Bought their home warranty.

Review: My most recent was an heater problem and they were a wonderful group who came to help. They took care of the problem and I was thankful. AMS got it done fast and completed within a few days. When they came I thought where did they find these guys!!! Then when they started to work, they were excellent and didn't have a big business at the time but definitely knew what they were doing better than some of the bigger businesses I had used.

    Dee Evans Date: 2012-07-19 18:02:24

Review: The initial contact with the reps leads you to believe it a professional group. Instead of replacing our dishwasher they ordered the entire "guts" to avoid damage to our hardwoods. Then came the water leak! The pipe sticking out of the foundation was deemed by the plumber as not being a part of the house so wasn't covered! We found this out after the repair!! After hours of arguing my service fee was waived!! We have been billed several times and every time "it's been corrected". Well today the same place is leaking and now hubby calls and we are told we ave a fee!! Now we are told that a they only guarantee their work for 30 days!! We are furious!!

Review: I love working with American Home Shield, I call them or go online tell them my issue and they tell me who will come out to fix it. The contractors that I have had out have been great, they have been to the house within 24 hours to fix my garbage disposal and dishwasher, they are very professional by introducing themselves, giving me their business cards, accessing the problem and then getting it resolved I already know the cost so don't have to worry about that. I have had American Home Shield for two years so far and will continue to have them as long as I can.

Review: Wurth what you pay which is too little. Run don't walk from this warranty company and your life will be much more fulfilled. All this group is going to do is make you angry. I deal with these types of warranties all day long in the automotive industry and they are all alike. The less you pay the less you get. I was told by my title company that this was the best warranty company available and then they told me how much was paid for the warranty and I knew we were going to be dissapointed. I was right.
