American Home Shield (AHS)

I called to request service for my water heater that is covered under my AHS home warranty. Service initially requested June 26th. Contractor was assigned and called to set up an appointment on the following Monday from 12-5pm. After taking the day off work in order to be home I received a call stating they had to reschedule the appointment. I was aggravated but understand things happen. They rescheduled for two days later (Wednesday) from 12-5. Ensured that my wife was able to stay home that afternoon for the service call. When I got home Wednesday I was told no one ever showed up nor did we receive a call saying they would not be there. This was July 3rd. When I attempted to call to find out why I got an answering machine and left a message. I immediately called AHS to notify them of the issue and was told that they would have to re-assign the contract and someone would be in touch with me in 24 "business hours" (Nice tactic but I'm not impressed and realize that this can mean up to five business days) When I asked if there was any way to expedite this since we (Me, pregnant wife, 5 year old and 2 year old) had already been without hot water for a week at this point I was given the run around (or at least I think I was because there was definitely a language barrier since I was talking to someone in India or Asia somewhere and English was not their first language). I also realized that being a holiday weekend I probably wouldn't hear from anyone until the following week. So here I am almost two weeks later, with a broken water heater; $75 service fee paid, holding an essentially useless AHS contract wondering what I have to do to get someone to look at my water heater.

American Home Shield (AHS)

My son purchased a house and the sellers had purchased an AHS policy to cover appliances for the first year. Three months into the home, the hot water heater began leaking. We contacted AHS to have it repaired/replaced. I went to the house to wait on the plumber (KS Plumbing). (scheduled to arrive between 8am & 12pm on a Friday) At 12:15 he had not shown yet. I called plumbing company and later got a text saying he was running late and would be there at 12:40pm. Finally, at 2:00pm, he arrived. (No apology for the delay or waste of my time). He spent about half an hour telling me what was wrong and what they had to do to replace it. I really didn't care about all that, just that it was replaced and quickly because the homeowner hadn't been able to take a hot shower for the last 3 days. He also told me that the purchaser of the policy is responsible for some things and usually the buyer is responsible for any expense related to getting the appliance up to 'code'. The water heater would run $350-$500 and extras for code requirements would run about $700. So my son would be out $700. Are you kidding me? The plumber said he was calling in his report when he left the house, and that AHS usually authorized the same day. He said he could be installing by Monday. It is now Wednesday-no word from AHS. I have called them 2 days in a row, and held for 43 minutes and 59 minutes. I spoke to someone both times and they told me the authorization dept. hadn't sent anything to them ok'ing a replacement. They would not let me speak to anyone in the Authorization Dept. I called the plumbing company both days. The first day she told me she couldn't talk to me re: the service, I had to speak to AHS. The second day she told me the plumber had sent the report in Friday and he would re-send it. She also said AHS is short-handed right now. That shouldn't be my problem, but now it definitely is. So, here we are, 4 days into this with no water heater, no contact from AHS and no showers. Today, my son is purchasing a water heater and hiring a plumber to install it. We have been screwed by this company and are sick of being railroaded. His realtor is definitely going to hear about this. If you are purchasing a house and think you're 'covered' because the buyer purchased a policy for you....., think again. Look at the policy in detail BEFORE you close on the house to be absolutely sure who's responsible for what. Question everything and let the realtor know your concerns-their reputation is on the line here too. They need to know these things. Here's my advice: NEVER, EVER PURCHASE FROM AHS!!!!

the online request is easy to use and the vendor called well within time frame...the issue was resolved fairly quickly..it was a water heater replacement and having in stock was the reason it was delayed from being completed in a single day.

In the past, American Home Shield has helped us with repairs to our heating and air conditioning systems, stove, electrical, and plumbing problems. The contractors have always been professional, clean, and polite. Our heating system was old, and the contractor tried very hard to fix it before AHS replaced it. We have been pleased with this service.

As a single woman I rely on AHS to send me reliable, ethical repairman. I haven't been disappointed yet. Most recently I had trouble with the air conditioning (in August). AHS sent a company called Three Brothers AC. The serviceman was right on time, very polite and efficient. The AC was back on in no time. A few days later AHS contacted me and asked about my satisfaction with the repair. That's great service.

My dishwasher suddenly did not clean the dishes. I called AHS and a repairman within an hour called and set up an appointment. When he arrived he was clean and appropriately dressed. It took a bit of time to find the solution as he checked the main points before finding it was indeed the timer. An order for the part was immediately made and when it arrives I know the repair will be done immediately.
