Had to pay American home shield $100 twice before they fixed the disposal. Additionally, I live in Arizona where the summers are hot. Had them come look at my 10 year old a/c where they said nothing was wrong but the air filters, paid the technician the premium, and he didn’t even bitter to change the filters himself, he left that for my 78 year old father to do. What happened? My dad fell off the ladder changing the filter and went unconscious, got stitches in his head, needed a CT scan and an X-ray on his arm. Pay them $100 and for them to fix nothing, and not even change the $2.00 filters. That’s a complete waste in my book.

My hot water heater was not working. Black sludge came out. I tried flushing it but it wouldn\'t work. I called and a service person came out within a couple of days. He looked at it and said it was working and it needed to be flushed. It had been flushed several times thru the years. I expected him to tell me how and I actually thought that would be part of the service call since I was unable to get any water to come out when I tried to flush it. I later got an email from AHS that said it wouldn't cover maintenance. I wasn't too happy because I then had to pay somebody else to come out and flush the tank. SO basically I threw away the $75.

Overall great value. The contractors have been great and have taken care of things professionally and competently. The -1 star is due to their customer service. I had an issue that needed to be addressed as soon as possible and when the contractor called and stated it would be 2 days, I called AHS and requested they try to find a different contractor. I was rudely told that they would not do so because the contractor gave a time within their "48 hr response policy and had already been dispatched. A little more professionalism and courtesy would have gone a long way.

Old Republic Home Protection
Big mistake going with this company. I'm taking care of my parents new house in Arizona. They decided to become snowbirds. A day before they planned on moving down I checked on the house and the AC was out. It is still hot in Arizona and the house was 97. I have power of attorney over their affairs so I called Old Republic. The service provider told me the compressor and coils are out. Basically the whole unit. The AC is 5 years old so under warranty for parts. The problem is the parts would have to be shipped and the earliest they could get to AZ was over a week. Not an option with the heat and elderly parents. The service man said if I replaced the whole unit Old Republic would reimburse the labor cost that they would have billed to replace the parts. Decided had to eat the cost of a new unit, no option in AZ heat. Old Republic called me back and informed me they would not refund me the quoted labor cost. What I'm getting at is the home warranty is useless. Even the repairman was surprised they would not refund the quoted labor cost of having the unit fixed. I'm sure it is in the contract. Just seems odd. The person I talked with on the phone was useless. At the end of our heated conversation she basically told me you're screwed and its your fault for buying worthless insurance. So yes, it comes down to I paid for worthless insurance. As they say, read the fine print. Oh, and the reason they have fine print is to get out of doing the right thing. I guess that it is probably normal for any insurance company. Does anyone know of a good one??? Old Republic CEO Aldo Zucaro made $1,577,306 in total compensation last year. It just disappoints me that I was part of paying that.

Purchased home owners warranty and all was fine for the first year only one small fan repair. Included in the policy was the premium package to cover my swimming pools system. When a small problem with the circulation system popped up I read the policy and thought no problem its covered. Old Rep sent out a son and pop company that had no interest in changing the faulty part and two weeks after their visit did I find out Old Rep wouldn't cover the 100 dollar part. Old Rep hires the bottom of the bottom of contractors to keep their expenses down ,I`ve experienced this and since have heard the same comments from others in my area. The package I purchased said it covered all parts of filtration system but when it came time to honor they refused saying the policy didn't specifically mention the item. I found them to be very uncooperative unless they were collecting your money. I would NEVER recommend anyone purchase a policy with this company! They put you through a complete runaround when questioning policy and attempt to have you roll over with frustration. My feeling towards them is CROOKS and THIEVES

My problem is not with any service requests. It is a billing issue. When I renewed my plan I was responding to an email reminder. Apparently I was supposed to wait until my plan was finished because now I am getting double billed. No worries said the service rep, I will have 2 months where I don't have to pay next year. Problem is I live on a budget and getting double billed isn't easy to pull off. When I escalated to her supervisor, Nina, I was told that the only option I had was to cancel. She didn't care if she lost my business, nor did she show concern that the cancelation process is tedious. I will let it go and pay double for now, but change companies as soon as I can. What happened to customer service? This is a simple billing issue.
