AHS offers no transparency. Of a $1500 waterheater replacement cost they offer a $575 cashout, the rest is your problem. They inflate the non covered "system modification/construction" costs to put back strapping and pan, TP etc. that same way as it was.

I contacted American Home Shield when my oven stopped working. The response was very fast, and they hooked me up with a technician. He called right away to schedule an appointment and the whole thing was completed in 3 days. I used to subscribe to another home warranty service and it would have taken 2 weeks to get the job done. Thanks American Home Shield.

Up until my most recent experience with AHS, I was very satisfied with their service. I am now going into my third week without a refrigerator. I have made several telephone calls and received conflicting information. Today, I learned that even though the repair company visited my home and had a recommendation regarding repairs they still have not communicated with AHS about the repairs . . . even though I was assured by AHS representative that there was nothing to worry about. I am entering the third week without a refrigerator, and AHS and their contractor don't seem to care. A lot of "empathy" from their customer service reps, but little action. I was assured that calls were going to be made to the AHS contractor, and learned today that they had not. I am not happy at all with AHS customer service since I have received several conflicting reports of the status of my claim. No one form AHS has initiated a call or email to keep me updated as to the status of my claim. As of today, I would not recommend this company for your home warranty provider. They and their contractor are in need of substantial improvement.

Repeatedly, when service was needed immediately to insure a working home, this service quoted 3-7 day service delays, prompting me to go outside the service to pay for repairs personally. They were regularly unhelpful on the phone and unwilling to help solve the problem, reverting to their poor policies and even worse service providers. I ultimately have discontinued service with them. When I did, they threatened to levy a hefty early withdrawal fee, which I had to spend time debating with them. When I did get service from them, they were competent.

I had AHS come out to clear a blockage in my kitchen sink, fix leaky faucets in the bathtub, and remove an unwanted garbage disposal. The plumber from Intercity Plumbing did not have all the parts necessary to complete the job of removing the garbage disposal, and told me to go out and buy an air gap. The plumber said that is all that is needed to complete the job. He mentioned to connect the gray hose from the d/w into the air gap and clamp it closed. I thought, even I can do that. When I went to Home Depot and told a worker i needed an air gap, he mentioned I needed many more pieces to complete the job (after I explained I removed the disposal). Anyhow, I called AHS back to have the plumber come back because it was an incomplete job. After speaking with 4 different people throughout the day on the statues of having someone come back out, I was told that if I wanted someone to complete the job, it would cost either $90 to reinstall the disposal, or $160 to install an air gap. I explained that the plumber had removed the disposal but did not connect the d/w hose to anything. The plumbing company said that removing the disposal was a modification, and the warranty company does not cover that. I told Intercity plumbing that I have a work order from AHS to remove the disposal, and the job is incomplete. Anyhow, I asked to speak to a supervisor twice today, and each time I was told a supervisor was "not at their desk and will have to call you back." No phone call back. AHS says they will not send anyone back out, unless I pay another service fee of $100. I know understand that this is a modification...but BOTH the plumber and AHS DID NOT tell me this prior to them starting the work. I would have said ok and not to touch it. The job is incomplete...and was their mistake for not knowing this was not covered under the policy. How should i know as a customer. Because of this I will be canceling my TWO policies, and moving them to First American Home. The service fee is $65 and an annual premium of $408. I will also be filing a complaint with the BBB.

Their policies are unethical, their business practices amoral and their overall service is unbelievably poor. I called about a leaky faucet, two leaking bibs outside and one inside. They sent a plumber who once he looked at it said, "These are not covered under your policy and I have no idea why they sent me out. Now pay me $75 dollars for the service call." I did not pay it - as he said he would not have paid it either -- sending out vendors to assess a situation they know ahead of time is not covered under a particular policy. This type of behavior is against the law and they should be punished accordingly!!

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. UPDATE ON A PREVIOUS REVIEW IN UNE 2012. I wish I had done my homework and read this website prior to purchasing the contract. On 6/16/12 I called about a bad tub faucet leak. AHS set me up with a plumbing outfit with an F-RATING with the BBB. I requested another contractor and they set me up with another outfit with an F-RATING (27 unresponded/unresolved complaints). I let my policy lapse. Of course, they were on the phone with me within the week to renew my policy. They could do it over the phone right away - What great service!!! However, I told them they didn't take care of the old claim so, No, thanks to the renewal. Rep said they couldn't open a new claim because my policy lapsed. I said my policy lapsed because they didn't resolve the old claim, so I didn't need a NEW claim...they should just fix the OLD claim...to which they said they couldn't because my policy lapsed - so we went round and round. After I tired of that, I hung up. They called back 7/13 and said to give them a chance to resolve the issue, so I said Okay! GUESS WHAT??? They tried to send out the first F-RATED company AGAIN. Lose my number, please.

This service was bundled with the purchase of my home. Three week before expiration I have leaks in the toilet and master bath. The first contractor recommended by AHS has an F rating with BBB. I requested another...it had even worse on-line reviews and also has an F rating based on 42 complaints (27 for problems with product or service). I called AHS and they said they cannot tell me what contractors are available to me and they DO NOT know anything about the contractors. Interesting, the statement by AHS on their review page recommends not taking on-line reviews seriously (ok, I can see that) and instead, to rely on the BBB ratings (which apparently they do not). I have just finished speaking with AHS. My recommendation is to skip this warranty service by AHS. In Riverside County, they have no idea of the BBB ratings (which they recommend to rely on) of their contract companies.
