AHS was great at scheduling a repairman for our dryer in a very timely manner. He showed up on time and was professional. He recommended a replacement dryer and AHS agreed. Up to that point it was five star service. My complaint is that nobody followed up with an email, text or call from AHS about my replacement options. I finally had to call and after going through one call, I was transferred and put on hold for TWO HOURS AND FOURTEEN MINUTES. The lady who helped me (finally) was nice and gave me my options. This is the exact same experience I had with our microwave back in June. So, half of the overall experience was good and half was poor. Please improve your service if a replacement appliance is approved. Thank you.

American Home Shield (AHS)

Rating starRating starRating starRating starRating star

Fantastic sums it up! Purchased AHS warranty when we closed on a home we recently purchased. About 5 weeks later, the washer starting making all sorts of strange noises and would only spin at low speed. I contacted AHS on 09/01 through their website, paid my deductible and the next day was contacted by GE Factory Service. We agreed on an appt time for 09/10. GE actually called me on Wednesday and asked if they could come a day early which was fine with me. The GE Tech diagnosed the problem and said it would probably cost more to repair than it was worth (transmission) but that would be up to AHS. He said they would contact me in about a week with the next steps since it had to go through the approval process, sort of like an insurance claim. AHS e-mailed me on 09/15 and provided a list of washers I could chose from to replace mine at no charge! Unfortunately the only models in stock at the time had an impeller and we wanted an agitator like our old washer. I checked back every day for a few weeks and while other impeller models became available, there were no agitator models. AHS has options to upgrade to a better model if you pay a little more money. I was able to find a very nice GE model which would only cost me a little over $200 more. I priced this model at a big box store and they were selling it for $850. So I paid $200 for the $850 model, a $650 savings, not to mention the big box store was charging for delivery and setup and new hoses, so I actually saved even more. The order was processed through ** ******* and they delivered on 10/06. Yes it was almost a month from the time GE Service diagnosed the issue, which for many may not be acceptable, but a few weeks of that delay was on me since I was waiting to see if a specific washer became available. Our old washer was still limping by so I had time on my side. From the initial contact through AHSs website, to follow up by GE, to getting my offer to replace the washer at no charge from a specified list was about 2 weeks. Considering all the delays we are still suffering with from Covid (that was the reason for the low stock situation with washing machines), I feel that was perfectly acceptable. Of course if my furnace was out in the middle of winter, that may not be the case, but I believe AHS would probably prioritize such cases. Im extremely happy with AHS and ** *******. Delivery was quick, they disconnected the old model, connected the new model and told me to let it run through a cycle before using. Twenty minutes tops for the delivery and setup, nice job! I did have to pay a little more to get a washer with an agitator (and lots of other bells and whistles), but I saved a bundle over purchasing it on my own and love the new machine. Hopefully nothing will break within the next year, but if it does Im sure AHS will provide excellent service again if needed. This is not a paid endorsement, Im just very happy with how the entire process went. Thanks AHS!!

Customer service is horrible. I want to cancel my account. All the food in my refrigerator spoiled today. I am very unhappy with this service. I could have handled this myself but my credit card was already charged the $125 fee so I wait... wont make this mistake again.

This is now my 4th time having an AHS warranty when we bought a home. You think the inspoector catches it all? Never. So glad we negotiated this and well worth the price. They have great customer service and all but one time sent me awesome vendors. Rest easy with having a home warranty.

American Home Shield (AHS)

Rating starRating starRating starRating starRating star

I would honestly give American Home Shield 0 stars if I could. Not only is their customer service the WORST I have ever experienced. The professionalism in several of their customer service representatives is severely lacking. We called on 6/28 to report that our AC unit had shut off with myself, who was almost 7 months pregnant, my 3 year old and my asthmatic husband living in the home (we live in GA where summers get hot). It took a few days before they sent a technician to our home and the temperatures quickly climbed up into the higher 90's. We luckily have very caring neighbors who brought multiple fans to our home to help keep the temperatures down while we waited on the unit to be repaired. First technician with Latino heating and air came to inspect the unit. He did a simple inspection and was not very thorough about his findings. The most he told us was that the head pressure was high so he hosed down our outdoor unit. Then he said we were low on coolant, refilled it and billed us the 110$ AHS wouldn't cover on top of paying AHS 75$ for the visit(when a gal. Is 120$). I called that day to speak with an associate because we knew there were further issues with the unit. I was assured that they would place a recall on our service and if I called again that they would expedite a technician to our home given the situation. About 2 weeks later, our unit shut off again in the middle of the night, the day before my daughters 3rd birthday party. So, the first thing I do is call AHS to request the recall. I'm told by the associate that they cant expedite service and the quickest they can get a technician to my house is Wednesday (4 days from my call). Obviously this is extremely upsetting given that I was told otherwise by the previous associate so I asked if there was any way I could speak with a supervisor. I was then placed on hold for 2 hours (about 45 minutes in I called on a different phone as well to see if I could reduce the wait time. It was midnight so there was no reason for me to be on hold for that long) Supervisor tells me they have to place me on hold to call a technician to see if they can expedite service (remind you its midnight). At this point I become extremely upset. I then disconnect the line after being told they couldnt reach anyone and call back on Monday. I reach them Monday and was told they could schedule me for Tuesday with a different contractor, Towne Lake Heating and Air. Towne lake doesn't show until about 7pm that evening. We tell them about the coolant and what the previous technician had told us. They perform a leak test and say that our coil is leaking and needs to be repaired and we need to replace the coolant that has leaked. So, they refill the coolant and give us an invoice stating that we cant place an order for the coil until our unit shut down again. They said to call them directly if it shut off and they would send a technician out to measure the part and put the order in with the warranty company. Again, not even two weeks later our unit shut off so we call Towne lake. They tell us they'd be out the next day. It starts to get later in the evening and they hadn't showed so we called them with no response. They never showed. So again, we call AHS to see if they can get the contractor back out to our home. I was hung up on 2x by associates while waiting on hold when they were "attempting to reach the contractor" Finally, the third associate tells me that they successfully contacted the contractor and they would be in touch to schedule a service time. We finally hear from the contract who stated they would be out between 12 and 4 on Tuesday. So, I take off work early to ensure I would be home in time for the 4 hour window. It reaches around 3pm and I haven't heard from the contract who hasn't showed. 4 rolls around and still no contractor. So I attempt to call them and no answer. So, I call AHS to see if they can contact the contractor. No answer. Contractor never calls or shows. So, I call AHS back again to speak with an associate to see if they can change us to a different contractor. I get hung up on again while on hold. So, I call back and ask for a supervisor. The associate refused several times stating they had to assist me first. I politely explained that I was more comfortable speaking with a supervisor given my previous experiences with other associated. I was then placed on hold for another 2 hours, then an associate from billing answers. They NEVER transferred me to a supervisor as requested. The lady in the billing department finally gets me on the phone with a supervisor. Supervisor tells me he has to contact Towne Lake Heating and air and if they dont respond, then they can switch me to an alternative contractor and they would put in a request to expedite. Turns out Towne lake heating and air told AHS that they fulfilled the service request that they never showed for! (Mind you at the point its now AUGUST 22nd, TWO MONTHS since our original service request). Summer Breeze heating and air contacts us Thursday and makes an appointment for Friday the 24th. The technician finally gets out, does a more then thorough examination of the unit and lets us know that not only were the previous contractors wrong about what was wrong with the unit, they had never opened the seal to check for leaks in the unit. Guy determined that our compressors actually needed replacing and that our 2 different thermostats were actually competing with eachother as well and suggested we upgrade the unit for better efficiency. They were the only good thing about our experience. If you need a home warranty please do yourself a favor and do not go with American Home Shield. I only gave repair service 5 stars because of Summer Breeze heating and air.

Very unhappy with this company. They handled the already stressful situation of a gas-line leak very poorly. The repair-person that was scheduled through AHS to fix the problem never showed up. After almost 3 days, we finally ended up getting our own repair-person and paying for it ourselves.

One time I used the service and the company sent to me would said that isn’t part of what we do? I still got charged the $75 and the company that came out was completely wrong. When I sold my house, canceling American Homeshield was impossible, I finally just cancelled the auto draft in order to make it stop.

The rating would generally be higher, but the last call I had to battle with them about incorrect information they had in their system that I knew was incorrect. After the first guy came to repair my furnace, it worked for a few hours and stopped working during the night. When I called in the morning, a Friday, they said they would be out Monday because I had a b backup furnace, which isn’t the case. They didn’t rate three days in January without heat as an emergency because they thought I had two units, which I don’t. It took multiple calls and live chatting during work to get my point across. It’s the only time that I’ve ever had problems with them or their customer service, but once is enough. Otherwise, I have always been happy with them. They act quickly, the companies are friendly, and the agents are friendly and helpful. This time, she wasn’t. I’m definitely giving them another chance because of all the other good experiences that I’ve had. I recommend them to people all the time.

Our ice maker stopped making ice, so we opened up a ticket with American home shield online, this was very easy to do, then the contractor called us and scheduled as visit, he showed up on time, he had the part with him, he replaced the ice maker and were back making ice, he was very professional.

Contractor was prompt, zeroed in on the issue, but then noted that the model number stickers were missing on the dishwasher. He explained that probably meant he could not get a replacement part and that AHS might simply chose to replace the unit. This sounded like a process that could take a while, but AHS was very prompt and within the week I had a new dishwasher. Delivery/install was via a different company than the original contractor, but also very prompt and professionally done. Great service

Good luck getting them to do anything in a timely manner. My hot water heater basically blew up and was leaking everywhere and it took 5 days to have somebody come out. Ruined part of my hard wood floors which they refused to pay for.
