First and foremost, I had been having trouble with the company that replaced my roof in regards to the leak around my skylight. In so much as they claim it was the skylight and not the roof. Since I had been having this trouble I decided to call AHS to see if they could help me out, they sent a real professional. He explained to me why the leak was due to improper flashing that surrounds the skylight. And how because of the age of the skylight it would not recommended to attempt to make a flashing bib, because it still may not work. He told me that replacing the skylight with a modern one with a improved flashing barrier would insure no more leaking. I told him to go ahead and replace it now that I had a reasonable explanation why it needed to be replaced. They were able to get it done that same day, within a half hour of rain that has stayed all week. No more leaky roof. And AHS absorbed half of the cost of the new skylight to boot! I am very pleased with the whole way the situation worked out and would gladly recommend AHS to everyone.

Such a great experience, my furnace was making a loud noise on Wednesday so I filed a claim that night and they should up the next day. Blower was bad so they ordered the part and they said it can take up to 7 days but got it fixed on Monday and works great now.

This company has the worst customer service I\'ve ever received. I requested a service request on Monday Aug 20th. After waiting over 24 hours I called the service company on 8/22 that was supposed to repair my appliance; they stated they cancelled my request because they don\'t work on my brand of appliance. I was never contacted by AHS that the request was cancelled. I called AHS on 8/22 to express my dismay; they opened a new request for the service and told me the company (which was the original company from my first request) would contact me within 24 hours to setup an appointment. The service company called me after 6pm and left a voicemail stating he would be in my area on 8/23 between 10-12 if I was available. I NEVER spoke the service company letting him know that 10-12 was a good time to come for the service; I had to work and would need to check my schedule to figure out a good day and time to meet with him. He calls me at 1020 stating he is sitting in front of my house and it doesn't appear that I'm home. I explained to him that he only left me a voicemail but I didn't confirm that date and time. He then told me he can't work on Friday and he only works 8-12 everyday. I called AHS right away to advise that I would like a different company that had available hour blocks throughout the day so I would be able to make an appt in the afternoon. I was told that I was being charged the $125 service fee since the tech showed up at my house and they couldn't change the company unless I cancelled my current service request and opened a new one; which I would be charged an additional $125 service fee AGAIN! I explained that I never requested or confirmed that the tech could come to my house on 8/23 so why was I being charged just because he showed up when he had the time. I was then told that since he left a voice message stating he was available that's when my appt was for and since I wasn't there I would still be charged. I asked to be speak to a manager and was hung up on. I called back again and after waiting for 30 minutes on hold again I explained the situation and again was told that since they left a voicemail that they had time 10-12 that it was my fault that I wasn't there and I would still be charged. I again requested to speak to a manager which they were hesitate to transfer me too; and then I was again not transferred to a manager but sent back to the main menu you receive when you call the customer service number. I called again... I waited on hold again for 30 minutes and when someone finally picked up I requested to speak to a manager. I explained that the customer service I've received was terrible I've been hung up on, transferred to no where and I'm calling for the 3rd time today. He took my information, apologized and stated he would transfer me to a manager; I've now been on hold for another 45 minutes waiting to talk to a manager. A manager finally picked up after 50 minutes of waiting on hold. I again explained the issues and he stated he would need to contact the service technician; which to me is irrelevant (of course he is going to say he came out for the service, but again he didn't speak to me about whether that date and time were good. The manager is now telling me that I wont be charged an additional service fee and that they will be assigning a new service company. At this point I'm not sure I even want another service company to assist. This was ridiculous and so unprofessional I've been nothing but patient with this company, but this stuff here is the reason customers get so irate with companies. This company has no problem taking my money, but the moment I need services I get nothing but the run around. Save your money!

Back in September, we had a problem with our AC system. Called AHS and they sent someone out that said the compressor needed to be replaced and so the Freon needed to be put back in the system afterwards. This was fixed in October when temps were low and everything was assumed to be fine. Fast forward to this past week when we had a heat wave in the 90s and my AC stopped working so well and temps in the house got into the 80s with a two week old infant in the house. Asked my HVAC tech neighbor to take a peek and he thought the Freon was low but couldn't fix it as he didn't have any Freon. Called AHS and they wanted to send out the same company but they couldn't come out until 4 days later. So I called AHS again and they sent out a different company that felt the previous technician did not put in enough Freon when they fixed the system. So they had to put in more Freon which I had to pay a portion of and i'm fine with. But when I called AHS to ask about waiving a repeat deductible for a problem from the previous technician I was only met with a robotic "sorry sir, our policy is you put in another work order so we have to charge you another fee". Was told that because I didn't submit a complaint about the service in October within 60 days after the work was completed there was nothing AHS could do to waive the fee. Even though the tech told us there would be no way to know there is a problem until it reaches high temps outside because then the AC system could not keep up. So unless there was a way to magically make it 90 degrees outside in Maryland in October-December I wouldn't have known there was a problem. Very disappointed with AHS and how they handled this matter. I begged and pleaded to waive the service fee but was just met with a "sorry sir, there's nothing we can do". Well AHS, there's something I can do and that's find another home warranty company.

We have used this service for 3 years now. They have been very convenient and saved us THOUSANDS of dollars. Don\'t use the phone to contact them unless you call early in the morning. All my claims are online and they respond within 24 hrs. This is the best in the industry.

We have had American Home Shield for about 10 years. My husband and I are both in our mid 70's and we are not able to do many things around the house that need service. Whoever something is not working right, we call AHS and they call someone in our area. That service company then call me to arrange to come at a time convent to me. They then repair the problem and I am charged $75.00. The gives us such a sense of relief.

Old Republic Home Protection
I've had Old Republic for a year now. I paid $370 for the standard plan (which was very comprehensive when compared to others) and added on a $75 roof leak option. The trade call fee was $75 per problem addressed. I used the warranty for a few times throughout the year, so I think I was able to break even if I had not purchased any warranty at all. Some of the service people were better than others, and I've had a few problems with OHP bailing on their promises to follow up on service. Other than that, it's been on okay relationship. I'm now due for renewal, but Old Republic has increased the rates to $500 + $75 (for the same plan I had) with a $100 trade call fee. I really feel like I'm a victim of bait and switch. Please check to see how much renewal fees are with whatever company you choose. I have an old fridge, and old air conditioning unit and furnace, old roof, and old washer/dryer. I may suck it up and go for the payment plan they offer just in case they all go bad, but I'm really not sure if it's worth it.
