American Home Shield (AHS)
AHS has been a positive experience for me the last 5 years. I have had several appliance issues and other home issues. They have always been prompt to respond. I really like their new system which allows for video evaluations by the service agents. It really speeded up the process of getting a new washer on the way for me! The only reason that I am giving 4 stars is because the new washer is not here ...only been 4 days from order. Stay tuned!

initial contractor D******* C********** advised they could not work on my system because it was a boiler hot water heating system and they only deal with basic plumbing. they also advised i had a hole in my roof causing the leak. i do not. they did not for some reason want to do the work. oddly enough the 2nd contractor A** F**** O** came and checked everything out, tightened loose fittings and said the the unit was good to go. they also said they could not understand why D******* C********** would not do the basic plumbing checks. i also was not happy to be charged $125.00 twice because i was very specific as to what the issue was and should have been assigned the appropriate contractor right off the get go.

I like the helpful staff. They are very kind and friendly. I think sub-contractors which AHS does business has to be given a protocol or guideline. Work must not be dragged out too long in the middle of winter. Customers interest need to be put as number 1 concern. My heating problem (replacing ignition pilot) took 13 days. First person came and repaired but turned out to un repaired, second person came and gave us some talk which hinted replace the whole thing, third person came took the picture of part. Last service people *** and *** came replaced the part-ignition pilot- at the 13th day finely. They were very expert, professional and skilled. I thank them for their fine work. Thanks to AHS for giving me a chance to write this.

Trisha Noi Stay completely away from AHS...we have a law suit filed against them, One example of what they do to customers with warranty contracts is send a tech out who is compensated for lying and saying things like "you are not in code or standards"...One example of thousands is a technician from Richmond Virginia who works with them thru a company called "Discount Contractors" and his name is Tom Murphy. They told my friend her septic tank needed dug up and it would cost 2400.00 dollars to fix her leaking toilet...One big problem with his scam/lie. She doesn't have a septic tank because she has city water supply. She has never had a septic tank in her yard...I told her I wish you would have let them dig up your yard (and film it). They are an evil bunch AHS....STAY AWAY FROM AMERICAN HOME SHIELD"

Worst experience with this company ever. My AC went out last Thursday, it is now Tuesday of the next week. Called American Home Shield Thursday to make our monthly payment so we could make a claim. The lady at AHS said the payment would come out at midnight and we could make our claim the next morning (Friday). Friday morning comes, and no payment has been taken out. Call AHS again and the gentleman says the previous lady scheduled the payment to come out exactly one month later. The gentleman says the payment would again come out at midnight and we could make our claim Saturday morning. Saturday morning comes and hurray the payment has come out, we call and make our claim and are told the A/C company has 24 hrs. to contact us. 24 hrs. go by and nothing (it is now Sunday), we try to call AHS and their system is down until Monday. Monday morning we call AHS again and they are sending a company out on Wednesday, I say this is not acceptable and they say they have a company that can be there Tuesday between 8 AM and 4 PM (I guess this will have to work). Tuesday at 4 PM the A/C company shows up and tells me that they don’t work on our type of A/C unit (it is a gas pack unit). We call AHS to try to help us understand what the difficulty here is and when we can get another company out. AHS tell us that they can’t transfer the claim to another company until the company that doesn’t work on our unit puts in a diagnosis (they didn’t even touch the unit, not sure how they can come to a diagnosis) and then when we tell them we need a company the next day (Wednesday) they hang up on us. American Home Shield has officially been named the worst company that I have ever dealt with in my 30+ years on this planet.

The contacts that I have had at AHS have been off and on nice. They do not seem to care how long it takes to get an appliance fixed thought. My refrigerator has been not working properly since April 30th. It is now June 19th and the repair person called this morning as a matter of fact and said that they would not have the parts until the middle of next week. That is 2 months without a refrigerator. Very frustrating...

Have had many problems with my HVAC over the years. AHS likes to put as many bandaids on something so they do not have to replace. For the last three summers I have been w/o AC for several weeks at a time including currently. The service company sent determined there was a leak and the coil would have to be replaced. Turns out that after my $60 copay I also have a bill of close to $1100 for non covered items. Non covered items b/c AHS wants to put in the cheapest coil to them which shifts the burden of non covered items to the homeowner. This is b/c the coil AHS seelected does not fit my HVAC - has to be modified and i get to pay for the modification. Also - I have 2x annual service on my HVAC. The last service was in March 2012 and the service tech AHS sent stopped by in June 2012. They claimed the HVAC was dirty ($135 cleaning fee). $95 disposal fee which I understand is not required except by the servicing company. AND the best one of all - a $300 permit fee. Called the local building inspections unit and they said there is no inspection for repairing HVAC. Unless you are disconnecting the gas from the furnace. And even so the inspector said it certainly does not cost $300. My guess is not only are the warrenttee companies nickle and diming the homeowner but the service company as well. This forces the service company to try and find additional ways to make money on a service call. I am now in search of a new home warrenttee company as AHS has already nofitied me my annual premium goes up at renewal along with the copay. I do not hold out much hope. PB: They did replace my dishwasher with little fuss and put in a very basic model. The MW is also been out for a month waiting on parts. Rather than replace it they chose to repair it at a cost of nearly $500. At least that is what they would want me to believe.
