America’s Preferred Home Warranty (APHW) PLANS

The America's Preferred Home Warranty offers two plans, namely, the Standard Coverage and Preferred Upgrade Plan.

You can buy Standard Coverage to cover vital systems and appliances in the house including HVAC system, electrical and plumbing system, refrigerators, garage door opener, built-in oven, and dishwasher, etc. You can even get roof leaks repairs covered. View the full list below.

Preferred Upgrade Plan, on the other hand, can be purchased along with Standard Coverage. This package covers additional items like a refrigerator, garage door opener, etc.

America’s Preferred also allows add-on coverage to the Preferred Upgrade plan. The add-on coverage lets you cover extra devices such as water softener, pool, spa, etc. at additional cost.

America's Preferred Home Warranty Costs

America’s Preferred Home Warranty Coverage is available at pocket-friendly prices.Their  monthly premium is $45.75 for a deductible of $50; $41.58 for a deductible of $100 and $38.75 for a deductible of $125.

However, choosing add-ons would increase the premium prices to over $100 depending on the specific items chosen for coverage. The deductibles are certainly on the lower range in the market scale compared to other companies.

America’s Preferred Home Warranty (APHW) CLAIMS

The America’s Preferred Home Warranty’s claim filing process is simple and hassle-free. The procedure is as follows:

Log in to America's Preferred Home Warranty site to submit a claim online. You can also request a service by calling the representatives. You will be given a claim number. You can then call your chosen contractor and explain the malfunction to them.

Your contractor should speak to the customer service representatives and provide  details regarding the make, model, and serial number of your faulty device and diagnosis report. Based on this information, the company will approve your claim.

The company will explain the claim and determination details so that you can decide whether you would like a repair or replacement.

All you have to do is provide the invoice to verify your choice. The payment will either be made by APHW to the technician or reimbursed to you after you have made it yourself.

America’s Preferred Home Warranty has a more flexible claim filing process as they accept invoicing for repairs from contractors they couldn’t dispatch. Customers have reviewed them favorably for the speed of service and reimbursement.

As per the customers who have opted for their home warranty plans, a careful reading and understanding of the service contracts reduces the chances of your claims being rejected. Read America’s Preferred Home Warranty reviews to get a better insight into their quality of services.

What are the Exclusions and limits of America’s Preferred Home Warranty contracts?

America’s Preferred Home Warranty will not pay any additional costs towards completing repairs, nor will they upgrade equipment on the grounds of lack of capacity, incorrect installation, inadequate repair of or design of appliances, systems, or components.

They will also not cover problems arising from modifications to appliances, systems, or components, and areas or facilities of mobile home parks and the said condominiums. Only items located within single-family residences and/or condominiums will be covered.

The company accepts liability for the failure of systems due to regular wear and tear. If the systems and appliances have reached the end of their life cycle, then the company reserves the discretion to decide whether or not to pay. If any item breaks down during the 30 day waiting period, America’s Preferred Home Warranty may not cover it.

Though they cover some code violations, building or zoning code violations or upgrades required by the law of the city, state, county, federal government, or utility are excluded.

AMERICA’S PREFERRED HOME WARRANTY (APHW) FAQs

How much warranty liability does APHW accept?

The maximum aggregate liability of a home warranty contract from America’s Preferred Home Warranty is up to $25,000! That is a large cover to get for a little over $1000 paid in annual premium. The average appliance upper coverage limit is about $550, while for systems, it is about $1700.

Will all my home systems and appliances be covered completely?

Only the systems and appliances specified in the home warranty contract will be covered. Although the items get coverage regardless of age, model or make, for systems over 20 years of age, the maximum liability for repairs and replacements would be much lower.

What to do if I am not satisfied with the warranty plan?

You can cancel it, and America’s Preferred Home Warranty will refund the prorated amount of the home warranty contract. They may charge a cancelation fee, though this won’t apply if you choose not to keep the warranty within 30 days of purchase.

Does APHW cover a rolled roofing?

Yes, America’s Preferred Home Warranty covers rolled roofing. They also shield asphalt shingles and flashing from water leaks. However, America’s Preferred Home Warranty coverage excludes roof mount installations, roof vent boots, roof vents, drain lines, gutters, leaks in any balcony or deck, pre-existing leaks, and leaks due to ice damming. They also exclude leaks caused due to construction or repairs not performed in a professional manner, replacement of the entire roof, rotten wood, persons walking or standing on the roof, lack of roof maintenance, acts of God, etc.

Can I transfer my APHW contract?

Yes, APHW lets you transfer your service contract. If the ownership of your covered home is changed during the contract period, you must notify the company at 1.800.648.5006, within 30 days from the transfer of your covered property.

Does America’s Preferred Home Warranty cover townhouses?

America’s Preferred Home Warranty offers a townhouse warranty. They also offer condo warranty, single-family home warranty, multi-family unit warranty, and new construction warranty.

Hello Ashley, Thank you for reviewing your experience with America’s Preferred Home Warranty, I do understand your frustration with the claim amount. The warranty agreement provides a three-step process for claims. 1. Call or Start a Claim Online: First, make sure the item is covered by your plan. 2. Schedule: Once your contractor arrives, they must first diagnose your problem. Important: Before the contractor does any work, have the contractor call APHW with the diagnosis. An APHW customer service representative will speak with you and your contractor to determine the approved dollar amount covered by your warranty. Your contractor may then make the necessary repairs. 3. Payment: Your APHW customer service representative will make sure that arrangements for payments are made. You will be required to pay the contractor a deductible for each trade call, or the actual cost, whichever is less. Upon reviewing the claim, I see that we were not called before work was completed. This resulted in not having all the information needed. However, I am pleased to see we were able to assist you with the cost of replacing the water heater and lessening the burden of unexpected expenses. In order for the warranty to be most effective, the three step process must be followed and our Customer Service Team needs to speak with your licensed contractor prior to any work being done. The warranty is in place to assist with the cost of repairing or replacing specific items in the home, but may not cover the entire cost. The warranty covers a wide range of systems in your home for added value. Please refer to the warranty brochure or contact customer service at 1-800-648-5006 for more information. We are standing by 24/7/365 and look forward to your call. Respectfully, Customer Care Support Team CustomerCare@aphw.com America's Preferred Home Warranty ..View less

Our Home Warranty from this company is a sham. The policy documents clearly state coverage for electrical issues regarding "wiring, panels and sub-panels, plugs, fuses, switches, conduit, junction box[es]" located within "the perimeter of the principal dwelling and attached garage" for normal wear and tear. About a month and a half after we purchased our new home, the neutral wire in our home electrical system burned out and caused various electrical issues within our home. Per our electrician, this was due to normal wear and tear as the wire was from the 1970s. We own this wire (as in it is not an electrical company wire) and it is a part of our normal house wiring system, and we are on the line for the repair of it. It is located within our attached garage and I physically saw the burned out wires within the box in our attached garage! However, APHW is refusing to honor the warranty by claiming this is an "outside wire" and they don't cover "masts". Neither of these terms are included or clarified within their policy documents. And anyway, this denial makes no logical sense because this is not an "outside wire" under any clear definition: We own this wire as part of our normal home wiring, it does not belong to the electric company, and it is physically located within our garage. The only definition I can find of a "mast" is that it is basically a tube "conduit", which the policy seems to specifically cover. I tried to explain this to a supervisor and was hung up on. Early on they also tried to claim the attached garage is not part of our "home" and is therefore not covered, but they backtracked once we pointed out this is in direct contradiction to their policy. They have needed to speak with our electrician three separate times over two days due to confusion on their end because their representatives don't understand the technical explanations. They obviously don't understand how a home electrical system is set up, which is a big problem. One representative even told me she didn't understand why the company was denying coverage! We have done our part and followed their policy and procedures exactly as specified in their documents, and they are attempting to use any excuse they can find to not cover our claim. I feel like it's become a point of pride for them now and they won't back down, they made a bad decision due to not understanding the facts of the claim, now they're sticking to it out of pride. Very poor service, very poor. ..View less

If I get could give them negative stars I would. They rejected my claim on the account that a part of the furnace wasn't deemed essential, even though that part is required for survival. The alternative would be to not have fresh air coming into my house and I would suffocate.

As stated in the warranty's terms and conditions, the warranty contract is not intended to shift responsibility for normal maintenance of home systems and appliances. The technician diagnosed the issue as a clog found in the air intake, which could have been prevented with standard home maintenance. If the technician discovers further issues with the furnace after cleaning, we'd be happy to collect another diagnosis from the technician to determine coverage. The home warranty contract also covers a variety of other items in the home, providing further value should any covered items fail in the future. With a house full of people who were showering, using the toilet and dishwasher the septic stopped working. I called the septic company that inspected the septic before closing and had them out to check the problem. Paul, my septic tech said because the electricity was off for 1 day (switching over ownership) it got messed up. So, I contacted America’s Preferred (my home warranty purchased with the home) and after several phone calls to my septic company and them, they denied the claim because 30 days after closing must pass before a septic tank is covered. Unacceptable. Clearly I could not use my septic system if it wasn’t working, so yes, I had it repaired. This must be a common problem because there are only a few exceptions to repairs NOT covered right away. The septic system is one of them. So I’m out $265 and am left wondering what good is a home warranty if when a major item needs repair, whenever it goes out, even in the first 30 days, it’s not going to be covered. I am very unhappy with my experience using America’s Preferred Home Warranty. ..View less

My hot water heater cracked and begin to leak. I contacted the claims dept and followed all of their instructions. I found a contractor that provided me with written estimates and the contractor also spoke with this Home Warranty Company. I was informed that I would be financially responsible for anything over $500 and the warranty would cover $500. After the repairs were made and I submitted my claim for reimbursement the Warranty company stated that they made a mistake and never should have agreed to pay $500 and now they are only going to pay $200. This is a horrible ripoff. Why are they lying and misleading customers. I am in the process of filing a small claims court claim against this company. Do not do business with them, they are not going to keep their word. Bad for business. ..View less

Hello Alison, Thank you for taking the time to fill out a review, I am pleased we were able to assist with the cost of replacing the water heater. Due to the nature of your review I have taken a look at your claim, recorded calls and technician’s diagnoses for accuracy. Upon review of the opening call I was able to determine there was a misunderstanding, the customer service representative you spoke with had advised that $500 is the maximum for water heaters that are within their life expectancy. This was not an approval, he was advising of the warranty limitations to better inform you of what to expect. Per the terms and conditions, the warranty looks to assist with the cost of repairing or replacing items that fail due to normal wear and tear and may not cover the entire cost. Units beyond their life expectancy are at the company’s sole discretion. If you have further questions please contact customer service and they would be happy to assist you. Do NOT use this company! Takes forever to get a claim covered and they said our AC unit was ineligible for any coverage because it was still under a limited warranty (its 5 years old). So I had to pay all the labor and costs involved myself. What a joke. Next year I will just use a different company. And boy will I let my realtor know how upset I am!

Within 2 phone calls and a chat with my service provider, she had it resolved and fully covered. What I loved most is that she was just a really nice person who truly loves what she does and wants to help people. That can be a rarity these days, so I hope someone from America’s Preferred Home Warranty sees this so she gets proper recognition for being pretty awesome! ..View less

Worst home warranty company I have ever dealt with. They basically cover nothing and have fine print to get out of a lot of repairs. The contractor for the compressor was stuck closed on the outdoor unit. The part was only $18.00 to fix and they wouldn’t cover anything because the unit was still under the 10 parts warranty. Fine, I can deal with that but they wouldn’t cover labor either ..Read Full Review

Fine, I can deal with that but they wouldn’t cover labor either because in the fine print it says they wouldn’t cover anything under a manufacturer’s warranty. But did they tell me that when I called to make a claim? Nope, they didn’t. Stay away from this company. ..View less

The fact that you get to choose your own repair company is awesome, but beware about the reimbursement policy. The company gives you the option of reimbursement or paying the vendor directly, but most vendors will not take this option. We elected the reimbursement option and now two months later we still do not have our check. When I called Customer Service they informed me that we have to wait 90 days from the issuance of the check for a reissue and they keep pointing fingers at the USPS for the delay. (It has been over three weeks since they said they mailed the check.) I asked if they could void the check and reissue or send it by ACH they kept repeating that it was USPS's fault and that after 90 days we can revisit the issue. Really speaks volumes about their customer service to make someone wait 4+ months to possible get reimbursed! ..View less

Pretty frustrated with the company. The only reason I didn’t give a 1 star was because for the most part the actual putting in a claim and getting it approved. However, they only covered $500.00 when the cost to fix my A/C was over $2,000 and to replace was nearly $3000. When reading the coverage it states that they cover up to $2250 for cooling units. I have not had to use the warranty, but the piece of mind I get from having it is very nice. I purchased my new house last year and had the homeowner provide me with the warranty. One year later, I just renewed.
