AMERICA'S PREFERRED HOME WARRANTY (APHW) PLANS

The America's Preferred Home Warranty primarily offers a basic coverage plan for homebuyers and sellers and two plans that provide additional coverage -

  • Standard Coverage - This plan includes major home systems and kitchen appliances. You can choose to add other optional items or upgrades to enhance your coverage.
  • Preferred Upgrade - The Preferred Upgrade adds an extended range of repairs and covered parts to the Standard Coverage plan. It also includes many items that are not conventionally covered in basic coverage plans.
  • Optional Add-on Coverage - Like most home warranty providers, APHW also has a list of optional add-ons you can add to your plan for extensive coverage. Optional add-ons carry an additional fee for each item. For example, if you choose to add a gas fireplace to your plan, you’d have to pay an extra $4.17.
  • Real Estate Plans - America’s Preferred Home Warranty has a mobile app designed for real estate professionals. The app, Real-Pro, allows real estate agents to buy, maintain, manage, and renew warranty contracts. Realtors can get a quote by calling APHW’s listed number or by filling out a form online.

AMERICA’S PREFERRED HOME WARRANTY CLAIMS & CUSTOMER SERVICE

The America’s Preferred Home Warranty claim filing process is simple and hassle-free. The procedure is as follows:

Log in to America's Preferred Home Warranty site to submit a claim online. You can place a service request by calling the representatives anytime as they are available 24/7. You will be given a claim number. You can then call your chosen contractor and explain the malfunction to them.

Your contractor should speak to the customer service representatives and provide details regarding the make, model, and serial number of your faulty device and diagnosis report. Based on this information, the company will approve your claim.

The company will explain the claim and determination details so that you can decide whether you would like a repair or replacement.

All you have to do is provide the invoice to verify your choice. The payment will either be made by APHW to the technician or reimbursed to you after you have made it yourself.

The company, after phone approval, offers three payment options to the contractor - directly over the phone via credit card, send a check by mail, or reimburse you the amount in full. Customers have reviewed them favorably for their speed of service and reimbursement.

WHAT ARE THE EXCLUSIONS AND LIMITS OF AMERICA'S PREFERRED HOME WARRANTY CONTRACTS?

In this section, we’ll take a look at APHW’s coverage limitations and exclusions. America’s Preferred Home Warranty will not pay any additional costs towards completing repairs, nor will they upgrade equipment on the grounds of lack of capacity, improper installation, inadequate repair of or design of appliances, systems, or components. It also does not repair or upgrade any item if the failure is caused by improper installation, previous repairs, etc.

APHW also has limitations for coverage on systems and appliances. For example specific parts or components of appliances and systems like portable units or window units under central air conditioning are not covered, other items like water source heat pumps, salt water pools, etc., are also not covered. Similarly while filtration systems are covered in refrigerators, cracked or broken thermal shells, chipping, etc., are not covered.

The company accepts liability for the failure of systems due to regular wear and tear and not for damages caused by any other occurrences. If the systems and appliances have reached the end of their life cycle, the company reserves the discretion to offer services or claim denial. If any item breaks down during the 30 day waiting period, America’s Preferred Home Warranty may not cover it.

They will also not cover problems arising from modifications to appliances, systems, or components, and areas or facilities of mobile home parks and condominiums. Only items located within single-family homes and/or condominiums will be covered.

As per the customers who have opted for their home warranty plans, a careful reading and understanding of the sample contracts or service agreements reduces the chances of your claims being rejected. Also, read America’s Preferred Home Warranty reviews to get a better insight into their quality of services.

AMERICA’S PREFERRED HOME WARRANTY: WORTH IT?

America’s preferred home warranty holds an A+ BBB rating and has lots of positive customer reviews. It is also one of the handful of companies in the home warranty industry that allows you to choose a technician on your own. It also offers a three-night hotel stay if you must vacate your residence due to extended repair times on covered items in your home. However, there are some drawbacks as well, one being that clothes washers and dryers do not come under standard coverage and are to be bought as add-ons. There is also no labor/workmanship guarantee since the choice of service technician is your decision. If you are confused, you can check out our list of best home warranty companies to compare and decide.

AMERICA’S PREFERRED HOME WARRANTY (APHW) FAQs

How much warranty liability does APHW accept?

The maximum aggregate liability of a home warranty contract from America’s Preferred Home Warranty is up to $25,000! That is a large cover to get for a little over $1000 paid in annual premium. The average appliance upper coverage limit is about $550, while for systems, it is about $1700.

Will all my home systems and appliances be covered completely?

Only the systems and appliances specified in the home warranty contract will be covered. Although the items get coverage regardless of age, model or make, for systems over 20 years of age, the maximum liability for repairs and replacements would be much lower.

How much is America’s preferred home warranty?

America’s Preferred Home Warranty provides three plans with monthly premiums varying between $39.58 to $46.58. The deductible costs between $50-$125 depending on the plan you choose. You can also opt for a preferred upgrade along with the basic plan to get enhanced coverage options. It costs $11.68 per month, in addition to the cost of the selected plan.

What to do if I am not satisfied with the warranty plan?

You can cancel it, and America’s Preferred Home Warranty will refund the prorated amount of the home warranty contract. However, they may charge a cancelation fee, though this won’t apply if you choose not to keep the warranty within 30 days of purchase.

How is a home warranty different from homeowners insurance?

A home warranty is a 12-month contract that protects home systems like plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems, etc., and appliances like refrigerators, dishwashers, ovens, etc., in case of breakdowns or failure due to normal wear and tear. A home warranty policy covers the repair or replacement costs of the covered items in your plan. Homeowners insurance offers protection to the structure of your home against calamities like fire, storms, vandalism, etc. If your property is damaged due to any of the covered calamities, the insurance provider is liable to cover the repair costs.

Although both home warranties and homeowners insurance charge deductibles, they are different in coverage, covered items, and more.

Does America’s home warranty cover roof leaks?

The basic plan offered by the company provides coverage for roof leak repair subject to claim payout limitations.

Does APHW cover rolled roofing?

Yes, APHW lets you transfer your service contract. If you change the ownership of your home during the contract period, you must notify the company at 1.800.648.5006, within 30 days from the transfer of your covered property.

Does APHW Home Warranty cover townhouses?

America’s Preferred Home Warranty offers a townhouse warranty. They also offer condo warranty, single-family home warranty, multi-family unit warranty, and new construction warranty.

Plumbing was leaking. claim was filed with Americas Preferred. Plumber came out for repairs, called Americas Preferred back per their instruction, and claim was denied due to part not covered. I explained that the part is not listed as not being covered in warranty materials, but was told not all items are listed as not covered. Claim denied. this is deceptive advertising.

My wife and I have had APHWs standard warranty with the add-on’s and a deductible for over 3 years with one claim made towards the replacement cost of a refrigerator/freezer that no longer functioned. APHW paid $300 towards the replacement due to the age of the refrigerator. Understandable, however, our latest experience with APHW has been HORRIBLE both from their failure to listen to qualified service technicians as well as their total lack of understanding of fully integrated air conditioning and heating system such as the earlier C****** home heating systems. We had the XF***** thermostat replaced 3 times. They are no longer made rendering the TOTAL heating system non repairable after it failed completely during the conversations with APHW who completely ignored our expert repair technicians and then decided they would ONLY cover the failing heater blower motor for $250. After providing copies of the total replacement costs for a new system (~$13,000) APHW requested an itemized cost for the replacement heater blower assembly which we requested from the repair company and they provided. The cost of the blower motor assembly was ~$2,600. My last conversation with their representation was that they had approved the claim for $150 and were sending a check. Today I received an email informing me that my monthly payment was coming up on 19 Nov. If I could give an overall rating of minus 5 stars I would certainly not hesitate doing just that. I will be cancelling this policy tomorrow. If you must get a home owner’s policy I would suggest you to look elsewhere. ..View less

The warranty is in place to assist with the cost of repairing or replacing specific items that fail from normal wear and tear; it may not cover the entire cost. Upon review, I see that the technician verified several times that nothing other than the thermostat had failed. Since the thermostat was the only failure, we were only able to approve for the failed part. I recently filed a claim for a water heater and was only approved $375.00 for the entire repair. The repair cost was $1,100.00. I was told the $375.00 was for the cost of the water heater by one representative and the labor would be covered once the repairs were done. However, when the repairs were completed, another representative (very rude by the way) told me the $375.00 was for the parts and labor. I explained to her that the brochure and the other representative said something differently and was instantly given a speech about how I should have money set aside for repairs if I am a homeowner. I fully understand this which is why I am able to pay the technicians since APHW requires you to pay up front and be reimbursed, and do not to be lectured. However, I could have kept the money I paid for the warranty in the bank and used it for the repairs instead of wasting it on APHW. I asked for a breakdown and was refused even though I was told I could be approved up to $500.00. I requested the $500.00 and was also refused. I requested the case be escalated and was refused again. Save your money and find another warranty company. APHW is not worth the hassle and are not honest about how the company conduct business. ..View less

Hello Robert, Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience; I can understand your frustration with the claim determination. The warranty is in place to assist with the unexpected out-of-pocket costs of repairing or replacing covered items that fail from normal wear and tear; it may not cover the entire cost of repair. I have reviewed your contract and claims, and I am happy to see that we were able to approve funds to help offset the cost of the unexpected repairs on the water heater and HVAC unit. I see that we also approved an amount for additional repairs to the HVAC unit, which were not completed at that time. Should you choose to have the approved repairs done, those funds are still available to you until your contract expiration date. Regarding the water heater claim, the customer service representative advised that the amount approved for the water heater factors in age and life expectancy, and it includes the cost of parts, labor, and the service call. No other funds were discussed for labor. The warranty offers a range of covered items throughout the home for further value and customer satisfaction. DO NOT, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. If I could give zero stars, I would. Americas Preferred Home Warranty is a rip off. I got this plan in December when I bought this home.If I had known about this company before, I would have asked the seller for a credit and went with another warranty company. Once this contract is up, I will defiantly be going with another warranty company. 1. Asking to speak with contractor on the phone while they are there. The only item the warranty company should ask for is the estimate the home owner receive from the contractor. 2. They will find any type of loophole to get out of paying for repairs. 3. They require you to pay for repairs up front and then get reimbursed. Why have a deductible if you still have to pay in full? What if you dont have thousands of dollars to pay out of pocket to get the repairs done? Does this make sense, NO IT DOES NOT. Now, I am in process of a HVAC claim. The W********** unit is 15 years old. The coil is shot. The contractor explained to the rep that the coil is obsolete, no longer made by W**********. The unit needs replaced. It took the rep a while to call me back. Apparently, they are using this site https://www.expertappliance.com/partfinder.php to justify parts being available. Not only did I call the company that came out for the first inspection, I also called two other companies. None of the companies would use that site for parts. They said it is equivalent to " rebuilds and junk yards". All three companies have stated that the coil is obsolete from the manufacturer W**********. Because these companies are very large and very known, I believe them. I did my own research and could not find one. I called this horrible warranty company back to let them know what 3 highly known companies have said. I was on hold for about 10 minutes, only for the rep to come back soundly like a robot. "We will add $300 for labor for the replacement of part or upgrade of unit. $300 for labor??? I tried to explain again that none of the companies will use that site and all three says the part is obsolete, so the unit will need to be replaced. The rep states "use a licensed contractor. This is the website to verify that there is a part available". Once again, I had to state that these licensed companies WILL NOT use these parts because the part is obsolete and they dont use hand me downs. What licensed contractor will use obsolete parts without jeopardizing their reputation. The robot rep says, " This is the website we use. You can use the money towards the part replacement or upgrade". Basically. This company wants to set you up for failure. So, now my family is in home with no ac in South Carolina where the temps can get up to 100°. How can we afford an entire new unit? Once again, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I will be going somewhere else. I will also be letting those who are buying homes my experience about this company so they dont have to go through this. ..View less

America’s Preferred Home Warranty offers three different payment options for your convenience. The company did respond but said this was their policy. They didn’t cover my furnace repair because it was a carveout for not covering wall-mounted furnaces. This is yet another example why I don’t trust on warranties. They are never there for when you need them, only to accept your premiums to give you a false peace-of-mind.

The rep said to just call and they would add it to the claim. The problem is that when the switch went bad, it took out the transformer in the furnace and today a different rep said that it would have to be under a new claim (which doesn't meet the deductible), so they will not cover the cost of the transformer - which only went bad because of the switch! That's like your insurance company saying that your house destroyed by fire is a separate claim from the car which is in the attached garage and also destroyed in the same event! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? 2 items taken out by 1 event but has to be 2 separate claims???? Suddenly not seeing the value anymore. They probably won't even allow my review. Thanks Brit. ..View less

In this case, as the claim was opened online, we were unaware of the type of system until you called back. I would like to apologize for the miscommunication with the Customer Service Representative, and advise that we have reviewed the call to be able to provide further coaching and training. However, as the warranty does not provide coverage for this type of heating system, we were unable to assist with the repair. Thank you for taking my call today, it was a pleasure speaking with you. Should you need any further assistance, please do not hesitate to call us at 800.648.5006. Our Customer Service Representatives are available 24/7/365 and standing by to take your call. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY! I filed a claim and it took some time to get approved, of which they covered less than 5% of the total cost. After 6 months of not seeing a check, I reviewed on the website and it was still pending review. I called to follow up on the status, and WHILE ON THE PHONE, they updated the status to Not Approved and cancelled the amount that was approved. This company is garbage.

Please also see on your triple reviews on this site. Hello Marqua, Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience, I can understand your frustration with the claim determination. After reviewing your account, I am pleased to see that we have been able to approve all three of your claims to assist with the unexpected cost of repairs. I am also pleased that the first claim was approved for the full repair cost less the required deductible, and that we were able to pay the contractor over the phone for the repair once the work was completed. The warranty is in place to assist with the cost of repairing or replacing specific items that fail in the home from normal wear and tear and may not cover the entire cost. You mentioned in your review that the warranty covers up to $1,000 per appliance, however, as stated in the warranty, this amount is for Commercial-like or Ultra-Premium Appliances or Combination Appliances only. Also, if parts are available to repair the unit, the warranty will look at assisting with the cost of covered repair. We allow homeowners the option to use the approved funds toward the covered repair or the purchase of a new unit. When making a determination on coverage, the warranty considers the cost of the covered parts, the associated labor, and the contractor service call. We are not able to pay out on claims until the approved repair or replacement has been completed by a licensed contractor, therefore if the unit is being replaced and the technician is not supplying the unit, then the unit must be purchased new and professionally installed before payment or reimbursement can be processed. The warranty offers three payment options for your convenience and for the convenience of the contractor once work is completed. One option is for the homeowner to pay the contractor and be reimbursed. Another is for us to pay the contractor's company directly by credit card or check through the mail once the approved repair is completed and documentation is received. If you have any further questions or need to file additional claims, please call us at 1-800-648-5006, we are available 24/7/365 and we look forward to taking your call. It's unfortunate that I have to give at least one star. Absolute waste of money, and a lot of my time, to get zero reimbursement. This warranty company will find any way to get around making a reasonable payment - they will only pay a small portion of the cost using the excuse that they pay based on industry standard prices. Conveniently, they don't connect their customers with a provider that can do it for the allowed cost - because it's impossible. I am sure I will get a response, as others have - "We allow you to choose your own contractor for your convenience." That is absolutely not true; we called several providers in our area and not a single one could have done the work for what APHW was going to allow. They were only going to pay us approximately half of what it would cost to repair our furnace. They refused to pay the additional cost we incurred for having someone out on a Saturday, even though we were experiencing the coldest temperatures all season. They wouldn't issue payment without an updated W9 from our contractor - again, it was a Saturday, we would have had to wait days with no heat in our home for that to take place. When I asked to speak with a supervisor they instead opened a dispute on my claim, which I did not request; I suspect this was a ploy to further delay my claim. Ultimately, out of desperation to keep our children warm during frigid temperatures, we purchased the parts on our own and my husband - who is an HVAC and fire suppression system certified mechanic - installed the parts to get our furnace back up and running immediately. We submitted the receipts to be reimbursed for the parts - denied. Do. Not. Waste. Your. Money. APHW will find any possible way to pay you the least amount possible or, more likely, nothing at all. ..View less

We strive for customer satisfaction and are disappointed to hear about your experience. After reviewing the claim I am pleased to see that we were able to adjust this claim in your favor, however we need to speak with you to complete the claim. Please respond to the voicemails left on the phone number for this contract and we will be happy to go over this with you. The warranty is in place to assist with the cost of repairing or replacing specific items that fail from normal usage. It may not cover the entire cost. Once an approval has been made, the work may be completed and you may choose to use the funds for repair or replacement (with the work completed by a licensed contractor). If parts are available, the warranty assists with the cost of parts, labor, and the service call. For the convenience of our homeowners and the contractors, we do offer several payment methods. To pay the contractor directly, we do require that all documents be up to date. However, we also offer the option for the homeowner to pay the contractor and be reimbursed for situations like this. This company is a complete joke. I was given a 1 year APHW home warranty when I bought my house in January and was informed that this was a very high quality company who was very responsive and worked with people on their claims. No... this company doesn't work with you at all. I had my contractor come out, speak to the representative over the phone letting them know what was wrong with my furnace and sent a bid for replacement to me and this warranty company. In the invoice/bid, it specifically stated that my unit is non repairable as the parts are no longer available due to being an obsolete unit. I was told by the warranty company that this was not going to be any problem, that it would be covered. However, all this warranty company wants to do is cover the part that is no longer available and anytime I call to discuss this with the warranty company (probably 6-8 times now), I get the run around and told "Well we will look into this." or "Well, you can use the $150 we approved for the part to repair/replace your furnace." Even my contractor has called the company and was told, if the unit is non repairable due to parts not being manufactured, that they would cover it, yet the APHW company won't cover anything but the obsolete part. My furnace is going to cost us over $4,000...a mere $150 is not going to make a dent in that bill." So now a month has passed and I still have a broken furnace... I live in a state where blizzards happen. I will never recommend this company to anyone. ..View less

They lie, cheat, and steal. This is one of the worst scams ever and this company is one of the worst scumbags ever. I wish there was a negative 10 rating.

Hello Peter, Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience, I can understand your frustration with the claim determination. Upon reviewing your claim, I see that we have approved your claim an additional amount to assist with the cost of repairing replacing the covered part on the HVAC unit, and we have previously discussed this with you. I am happy that we were able to lessen the burden of this unexpected cost. The warranty is in place to assist with repairing or replacing specific items that fail from normal wear and tear and may not cover the entire cost. The warranty covers only those items which are: Specified as “covered” in the section of the agreement titled “What Items Are Covered?” If a system and/or item is not listed as covered, then it is not covered. The warranty does not cover normal maintenance or cleaning. The technician we spoke with advised us that along with the covered part that had failed, he was also replacing a part which had not failed, a non-covered part, and performing a cleaning. Therefore, a portion of the cost was not approved. The warranty offers coverage on a range of different items throughout the home and attached garage for homeowner convenience and value. If you have any questions or need to file any additional claims, please contact customer service at 1-800-648-5006. We look forward to taking your call. We just didn’t find them helpful. It took months to get the payment for a broken appliance. If you have a major leak and you call the plumber without calling them first, they will not pay anything. So much for needing running water in the house.

Hello Jeff, Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience. I can understand your frustration. I have reviewed your contracts, claims and all relative information, and I am pleased to see that over the last 3 years of coverage, we have been able to approve all completed claims on these contracts, lessening the burden on your budget by thousands of dollars. I was also able to see that you called about repairs that were done prior to calling to report a claim. While we do understand the urgency of contacting a plumber right away, we are available 24/7/365 and could have been contacted while the plumber was on the way or while the plumber was on site. Per the warranty terms there is no payment or reimbursement for services performed without prior approval, and we were not able to assist with these items. If you have any further questions, please contact customer service at 1-800-648-5006. We look forward to taking your call.
