My wife and I have had APHWs standard warranty with the add-on’s and a deductible for over 3 years with one claim made towards the replacement cost of a refrigerator/freezer that no longer functioned. APHW paid $300 towards the replacement due to the age of the refrigerator. Understandable, however, our latest experience with APHW has been HORRIBLE both from their failure to listen to qualified service technicians as well as their total lack of understanding of fully integrated air conditioning and heating system such as the earlier C****** home heating systems. We had the XF***** thermostat replaced 3 times. They are no longer made rendering the TOTAL heating system non repairable after it failed completely during the conversations with APHW who completely ignored our expert repair technicians and then decided they would ONLY cover the failing heater blower motor for $250. After providing copies of the total replacement costs for a new system (~$13,000) APHW requested an itemized cost for the replacement heater blower assembly which we requested from the repair company and they provided. The cost of the blower motor assembly was ~$2,600. My last conversation with their representation was that they had approved the claim for $150 and were sending a check. Today I received an email informing me that my monthly payment was coming up on 19 Nov. If I could give an overall rating of minus 5 stars I would certainly not hesitate doing just that. I will be cancelling this policy tomorrow. If you must get a home owner’s policy I would suggest you to look elsewhere. ..View less

I recently filed a claim for a water heater and was only approved $375.00 for the entire repair. The repair cost was $1,100.00. I was told the $375.00 was for the cost of the water heater by one representative and the labor would be covered once the repairs were done. However, when the repairs were completed, another representative (very rude by the way) told me the $375.00 was for the parts and labor. I explained to her that the brochure and the other representative said something differently and was instantly given a speech about how I should have money set aside for repairs if I am a homeowner. I fully understand this which is why I am able to pay the technicians since APHW requires you to pay up front and be reimbursed, and do not to be lectured. However, I could have kept the money I paid for the warranty in the bank and used it for the repairs instead of wasting it on APHW. I asked for a breakdown and was refused even though I was told I could be approved up to $500.00. I requested the $500.00 and was also refused. I requested the case be escalated and was refused again. Save your money and find another warranty company. APHW is not worth the hassle and are not honest about how the company conduct business. ..View less

Hello Robert, Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience; I can understand your frustration with the claim determination. The warranty is in place to assist with the unexpected out-of-pocket costs of repairing or replacing covered items that fail from normal wear and tear; it may not cover the entire cost of repair. I have reviewed your contract and claims, and I am happy to see that we were able to approve funds to help offset the cost of the unexpected repairs on the water heater and HVAC unit. I see that we also approved an amount for additional repairs to the HVAC unit, which were not completed at that time. Should you choose to have the approved repairs done, those funds are still available to you until your contract expiration date. Regarding the water heater claim, the customer service representative advised that the amount approved for the water heater factors in age and life expectancy, and it includes the cost of parts, labor, and the service call. DO NOT, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. If I could give zero stars, I would. Americas Preferred Home Warranty is a rip off. I got this plan in December when I bought this home.If I had known about this company before, I would have asked the seller for a credit and went with another warranty company. Once this contract is up, I will defiantly be going with another warranty company. 1. Asking to speak with contractor on the phone while they are there. The only item the warranty company should ask for is the estimate the home owner receive from the contractor. 2. They will find any type of loophole to get out of paying for repairs. 3. They require you to pay for repairs up front and then get reimbursed. Why have a deductible if you still have to pay in full? What if you dont have thousands of dollars to pay out of pocket to get the repairs done? Does this make sense, NO IT DOES NOT. Now, I am in process of a HVAC claim. The W********** unit is 15 years old. The coil is shot. The contractor explained to the rep that the coil is obsolete, no longer made by W**********. The unit needs replaced. It took the rep a while to call me back. Apparently, they are using this site https://www.expertappliance.com/partfinder.php to justify parts being available. Not only did I call the company that came out for the first inspection, I also called two other companies. None of the companies would use that site for parts. They said it is equivalent to " rebuilds and junk yards". All three companies have stated that the coil is obsolete from the manufacturer W**********. Because these companies are very large and very known, I believe them. I did my own research and could not find one. I called this horrible warranty company back to let them know what 3 highly known companies have said. I was on hold for about 10 minutes, only for the rep to come back soundly like a robot. "We will add $300 for labor for the replacement of part or upgrade of unit. $300 for labor??? I tried to explain again that none of the companies will use that site and all three says the part is obsolete, so the unit will need to be replaced. The rep states "use a licensed contractor. This is the website to verify that there is a part available". Once again, I had to state that these licensed companies WILL NOT use these parts because the part is obsolete and they dont use hand me downs. What licensed contractor will use obsolete parts without jeopardizing their reputation. The robot rep says, " This is the website we use. You can use the money towards the part replacement or upgrade". Basically. This company wants to set you up for failure. So, now my family is in home with no ac in South Carolina where the temps can get up to 100°. How can we afford an entire new unit? Once again, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I will be going somewhere else. I will also be letting those who are buying homes my experience about this company so they dont have to go through this. ..View less

The company did respond but said this was their policy. They didn’t cover my furnace repair because it was a carveout for not covering wall-mounted furnaces. This is yet another example why I don’t trust on warranties. They are never there for when you need them, only to accept your premiums to give you a false peace-of-mind.

YOU DO. Sorry doesn't fix the mistake or pay for it. I called earlier and asked about Pellet stove repair. All was fine until the contractor came and we made the call after the work was done and they denied it because its not even a service they cover. My claim had been open for 3 months and no one looks at them until the moment you call for payment. BEWARE. My bill was in the hundreds, but you could literally be footing thousands of dollars by this mistake and they wouldn't blink an eye. ..View less

In this case, as the claim was opened online, we were unaware of the type of system until you called back. I would like to apologize for the miscommunication with the Customer Service Representative, and advise that we have reviewed the call to be able to provide further coaching and training. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY! I filed a claim and it took some time to get approved, of which they covered less than 5% of the total cost. After 6 months of not seeing a check, I reviewed on the website and it was still pending review. I called to follow up on the status, and WHILE ON THE PHONE, they updated the status to Not Approved and cancelled the amount that was approved. This company is garbage.

Please also see on your triple reviews on this site. Hello Marqua, Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience, I can understand your frustration with the claim determination. After reviewing your account, I am pleased to see that we have been able to approve all three of your claims to assist with the unexpected cost of repairs. I am also pleased that the first claim was approved for the full repair cost less the required deductible, and that we were able to pay the contractor over the phone for the repair once the work was completed. The warranty is in place to assist with the cost of repairing or replacing specific items that fail in the home from normal wear and tear and may not cover the entire cost. You mentioned in your review that the warranty covers up to $1,000 per appliance, however, as stated in the warranty, this amount is for Commercial-like or Ultra-Premium Appliances or Combination Appliances only. Also, if parts are available to repair the unit, the warranty will look at assisting with the cost of covered repair. We allow homeowners the option to use the approved funds toward the covered repair or the purchase of a new unit. When making a determination on coverage, the warranty considers the cost of the covered parts, the associated labor, and the contractor service call. We are not able to pay out on claims until the approved repair or replacement has been completed by a licensed contractor, therefore if the unit is being replaced and the technician is not supplying the unit, then the unit must be purchased new and professionally installed before payment or reimbursement can be processed. The warranty offers three payment options for your convenience and for the convenience of the contractor once work is completed. One option is for the homeowner to pay the contractor and be reimbursed. Another is for us to pay the contractor's company directly by credit card or check through the mail once the approved repair is completed and documentation is received. If you have any further questions or need to file additional claims, please call us at 1-800-648-5006, we are available 24/7/365 and we look forward to taking your call. Hello Tom, Thank you for taking the time to submit your review. I can understand your frustration with the claim delay, and we would like to apologize for the length of time it took for your claim determination to be made. This does not live up to our award-winning customer service standards, and we will be coaching our employees to correct the issue. Regarding your claim determination results, to qualify for coverage, potentially covered items must be fully operational upon occupancy of the home, and then fail from normal wear and tear during the warranty coverage period. I see that you advised us that the Hot Tub would not turn on the first time trying to use it. Per the terms of the warranty, we are unable to assist with items that failed prior to the start of the warranty coverage period. Also, I see that your Dishwasher claim is still open. If you would like to complete this claim, please have your contractor call us at 800.648.5006 prior to any work being completed. We are open 24/7/365 and we would be happy to assist!
