Are Home Depot Protection Plans Worth Your Money?

Home Depot has been serving their customers for more than 40 years now. Their BBB rating is pretty good showing that their services are seen as efficient and reliable. The protection plans may be suitable if you have purchased appliances from the Home Depot store or you want coverage for building materials, exercise equipment, or tools.

However, they don’t offer comprehensive coverage as compared to other companies. You’d have to buy multiple plans to get adequate coverage. So, if you are looking for extensive options, you can check out the following home warranty companies that are renowned for their services and contractor networks:

HOME DEPOT HOME PROTECTION PLANS FAQs

Is The Home Depot Protection Plan Worth It?

Home Depot offers extended warranties for your appliances after the expiration of manufacturers’ warranty. These plans may help save the unexpected repair costs that one could encounter without the cover of the manufacturer's warranty. However, the company has faced customer complaints over the rejection of claims and communication issues.

How to register my Home Depot Warranty?

You can register for a Home Depot warranty while buying any of their products at their store. It is the easiest way to do plan registration. If you are purchasing online from their website, it will automatically redirect you to the eligible protection plans. You can select a suitable plan from that page, and it will be added to your cart.

How to get items replaced using Home Depot warranty?

As per Home Depot policy, if they can’t fix the item, they will replace it with a functional equivalent. They may offer you the amount you paid for it including taxes or Home Depot eGift Card, instead of a new unit. You will be provided with exact details at the time of purchase.

How long is home depot appliance warranty?

Most products come with a manufacturer’s warranty that lasts anywhere from 90 days to 1 year from the date of purchase. It covers pre-existing defects and breakdowns. Home Depot offers 3-year and 5-year protection plans for major appliances covering defects, breakdowns, with electrical and mechanical failures.

How does Home Depot extended warranty on power tools work?

For power tools, the company covers:

  • Electrical and mechanical failures
  • Product breakdowns caused by normal usage
  • Fast repairs or replacements
  • Power surge protection
  • No cost on plan transfer

To file a claim, you either fill the online form on their website or call on their 24/7 available line 833-763-0688.

Additionally, if a covered item has already had two service repairs for the same issue and another is needed, then Home Depot will reimburse it in the form of an eGift card.

How Does A Home Depot Protection Plan Work?

You can file a claim through their website or by calling their phone number 833-763-0688. A service technician is assigned to inspect the defect in the appliance and make the necessary repairs. Upon completion of the repair, the deductible amount is due and payable to the technician.

Is the Home Depot protection Plan transferable?

Yes, the Home Depot protection plans are transferable at no extra cost. To transfer a plan, you can call 1-800-466-3337. However, the Lifetime Service plan is non-transferable.

I lost my information for my home depot warranty, now what?

If you have made the payment via credit card, debit card, or a check, the company may be able to locate that in their system within 30 days. Your receipt may be available in their system for 365 days if payment is made via the Home Depot consumer credit card, the Home Depot commercial account, or the Home Depot commercial revolving charge.

Who gives the best warranty, Sears or Home Depot or Lowes?

Sears, Home Depot, and Lowes cover electrical and mechanical failure, damage caused by heat, dust, and humidity. When it comes to pricing, Lowes charges lower rates as compared to others and allows customers to add two to three kitchen and laundry appliances to the same contract. On the other hand, Sears provides 25% off on appliance services, and Home Depot has a limited discount of $50 off going on.

It can be hard to choose between them since they all have something unique to offer. However, you can select a suitable plan as per your requirements and take advantage of their offers.

Does the Home Depot protection plan cover batteries?

The last repairman told me that this dishwasher is junk (F*********) and that Home Depot knows it and that is how they make money, causing people to buy inferior products every few years. Under the plan, this dishwasher is considered a lemon and we should get a refund or replacement. However, Home Depot Protection Plan customer service keeps giving the runaround, then says a manager will call us back within 24 hours. Guess what? No call back. I questioned whether they issue refunds and the customer service rep told me, "we issue refunds all the time, everyday we are sending out checks". Going to call again today. Home Depot Protection Plan is fraudulent. ..View less

I purchased washer and the 2 year extension on warrant and it was like throwing money down a hole. They put you on hold and you can never get through to a person or get an appointment and they hang up eventually. I want my money back. - not accepting this as a valid business. It is a scam. They do not deserve one star.

A full week, I called 7 times and was passed on to a Specialist", "Escalation Team", "Field Service Team" or "Customer Care" member 6 of those times with hold times up to 1:23:40 (yes, embarrassed to say, I actually stayed on the line that long listening to elevator music). I kept a log of the phone calls, who I spoke to, the hold times to speak to them, what was promised and if they just hung up on me (3 times). Literally HOURS on hold over a week period to have my Home Depot Extended Warrantee to cover a bad Gas Control Valve on a 3 yr old R**** Hot Water Heater. I am over trying to communicate with people located off shore with (sometimes) accents hard to understand and terrible/broken phone lines. I have been promised follow up calls, emails, up dates... never happened. After a week of no hot water, no in house shower for 3 people, I have cut my losses. Hired another company to install a brand new hot water heater. The R**** hot water is being thrown out the door... getting rid of it!! Find I would rather be happy than right. FYI, Home Depot does NOT stand behind their appliances or warrantee. I physically went to the store that it was purchased, spoke with a senior member who basically said I was SOL. ..View less

After hours on hold collectively, I was out through to multiple channels, with the final channel being the Executive Escalation Team. I left six messages for that team and no one ever returned my call. HD/A****** set up to fulfill these "warranties" is tantamount to fraud. Im not being dramatic. I mean very literally you are sold something that has no function or purpose, and so the fact that they take your money in exchange for nothing is bordering theft. Heres my experience: I purchased a S****** front load washer from Home Depot. It stopped working after less than a year (thats fine, things happen. Figured the warranty would handle it). I called for service and an incompetence tech from a 3rd party company showed up and dismantled the washer. Took it apart and left it in pieces, in my basement. They said they needed to order a replacement part. They left my washing machine in pieces and just never came back. One important detail is: they took the supposedly defective piece with them before vanishing. So, now a piece was missing and they were in the wind. I called HD and they sent out another company. That company came and assessed the machine (in pieces) and said they would return at a later date. Instead, I did not hear from them and then I received the following emails from A******/HD: 1. The first email said "sorry we missed you" and it was an email stating that I was not home for my appointment with the repair guy. But there was no appointment. It never was scheduled and we missed nothing (maybe he was billing A****** for a missed appointment?). I called to explain and they told me to contact him again, which I did. I left messages and he stopped returning my calls. 2. Amidst all this, I received a 2nd email stating that my claim was now "complete". As in, the email was stating that my problem was resolved. Without dragging out this review to too much detail, let me just tell you that I made soooooo many phone calls to HD/As****** trying to sort this out. I was on hold numerous times, having to explain the problem from scratch each time. More than once, I seemed to be making progress on the service calls and they would just disconnect or hang up - and I would have to start all over again. I clocked half a dozen hours on hold and with calls. Heres where I finally lost my stamina fighting for them to honor the warranty: a rep told me that she assigned a 3rd company to the repair. However, they never returned my call and I just folded. Went 5 months without a washing machine. I have kids. It wasnt manageable. At some point I had to weigh the time I was investing in this process and I just paid for a new washer at my own expense. I did not buy another warranty. ..View less
