Home Depot Home Protection Plans

The Home Depot was founded in 1978 by Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank. The founders had a vision to create a one stop shopping spot for hardware and appliance requirements. The company began it’s journey from Atlanta, Georgia and now has stores across all 50 states in the U.S and also in Canada and Mexico. In 2001, the company extended its reach to China by acquiring Total Home. Although the company’s primary business is hardware and appliance retail, Home Depot also offers high quality appliance extended warranty plans to customers across the nation. The Home Depot Company claims that all their plans come at zero deductible fee and offer the best customer service in the industry.

Like just about everyone else on this site, Id give a zero star rating if I could. It has now been a year with the same problem on my Samsung washer. Ive had four separate tech incidents (which adds up to 8 visits since once a problem is diagnosed a return visit for the replacement part install occurs.) My experience with first-level Asurion support has been acceptable. Some wait on hold but not outrageous. Polite agents. Im now at the point of requesting a "buy-out" (per the contract terms) since, obviously, nothing has helped to fix the problem. Getting through to a supervisor takes 1-hour on hold IF youre not disconnected in the interim. Finally reached a supervisor last week and she was going to escalate to her manager and call me back. Still waiting.... Now Im on hold for a supervisor and was told the waits are about 1-1/2 hours today. I asked if they could send a message so a spvr would call me back when available rather than waiting on hold. I was told they previously had that function but discontinued it because too many people were asking to speak to a supervisor and they dont have the capacity to call back. HUH? Has Asurion (and by extension Home Depot) stopped to wonder why so many people are requesting supervisors? Could they possibly have a problem on their end? Ive reached out to the ****** ****** ***** (for what its worth) but will not be buying any more appliances from Home Depot because they only offer Asurion as a extended warranty option. Its a shame. Home Depot normally provides good customer service but in this case, it doesnt extend to their sub-contractors. ..View less

If I could give it a zero I would. Over 2 months and many phone calls, as well as a lot of time on hold and my Refrigerator is still not fixed. I kept being told it would be fixed in two days. That was two weeks ago

The extended warranty is a gimmick and waste time and money. The support for the warranty service is unhelpful and have NO knowledge of what good customer service is but that is obvious from all the other review. Disappointing!

At that time I was informed that the extended coverage covered everything. It is a waste of money. A few days ago, the caster attached to the body of the refrigerator that enables the glide and serve drawer to slide and glide split from the body of the refrigerator leaving a 3" x 1" hole in the actual refrigerator. I called the Home Depot and was referred to their insurance department. I found out from them, this is considered cosmetic and is not covered beyond the initial 1 year warranty that LG covers. They told me that parts are sometimes covered 50% and that after I purchased the part from LG I could e-mail the receipt to Asurion (which handles their Insurance claims) for possible consideration. They directed me to call LG which I did and they informed me that since the 1 year initial warranty had expired, I could buy a part from the LG Parts Department. After being transferred several times, finally someone was able to tell me that there is no part for the body of the refrigerator. This is very disappointing. I spent $3,000 on a refrigerator plus $250 in extending the warranty only to find out that after 3 years, I have a refrigerator with a hole and that neither Home Depot nor LG can fix it. ..View less

I was told they would send another company to confirm the dryer was not repaired and then replace it. Well imagine my surprise when they sent a 2nd company out to repair the dryer. This company is now on their 3rd visit and the dryer is still not repaired and I keep getting the same response from the "customer service team" at Asurion, that I need to have patience and allow them the opportunity to repair the dryer. At WHAT point does patience wear out? I would say 8 weeks is a pretty good time to lose all patience and faith this dryer will ever be repaired or replaced. If I had known it was this much of a hassle and this long of a wait coupled with the sheer incompetence to get this dryer repaired, I would have declined this warranty and just took my chances. I would have had an operational dryer as soon as the other one broke and not been inconvenienced for the past 2 months, in the midst of a pandemic. I would rather not have a warranty than to ever willingly and knowingly choose an Asurion warranty again. ..View less

Polite but incompetent customer service. I have been unable to get a straight answer on anything regarding my labor claim. The last contact I made regarding a claim I was off and on hold for nearly an hour with customer service.

I made multiple calls daily and they lied about appointments set up and no one calling when they didn't show. I was even told that what I needed done was just cosmetic repair and wasn't considered a prioty even waiting 2 months to get it done. I paid just as much for the warrarenty as anyone else. The company they sent to my home has the worse rating and should not be allowed to be a service provider for Home Depot protection plans or Whirlpool washers. Initial visit, I was told a part had to be ordered after 3 weeks I called the protection plan who contacted the company who claimed to still be waiting on a part. Finally, the part comes in but then it is the schedule and reschedule nightmares. The technician came today and tore the entire washing machine apart, banged on it for hours and then told me that the part I waited forever to receive is broken. Only to start the waiting on a new part nightmare. What a joke and scam. Please don't get this plan unless you want to deal with frustration and downtime with your product. They will send tech's to your home that can't fix a bubble gum machine let alone and appliance. To keep myself from being more aggravated and knowing I had clothes that need to be washed, I had to cut my losses and go to Lowe's and buy a washer. I will never purchase another appliance from home depot. This plan will not give you the peace of mind you were seeking when you purchase it. You have been warned! ..View less

The warranty service Asurion, had to use their repair guys. They were suggesting a company that had a horrible track record with only bad reviews ( that is why I wanted to talk to a supervisor ) stating they had to have a repairer that would have the correct parts in the truck to complete the repair. Ironically the repairer needed to order parts ( didn't have them on his truck ), we got put out until we could fit into the repairers schedule. Today on the third visit our repair seems to be complete after 2 months 2 weeks and 2 days. Not happy with home depots warranty to say the least. I would not recommend it. ..View less

I will NEVER buy another appliance from this store again. EVER. And if you do, BUYER BEWARE of purchasing the Asurion Extended Warranty. Don't waste your money. It's worthless. Never again... NEVER. If I could offer ZERO Stars that would be too many. I bought an expensive Samsung Refrigerator from Home Depot 3 years ago and also purchased Home Depot's 5 year extended warranty which says, "No Deductibles, No Additional Fees, No Kidding - If We Can't repair It, We'll Replace It!". Home Depot's Extended Warranty Company has sent repair persons to my home 4 times previously and while the technicians were all very nice during those visits, they repeatedly failed to adequately repair my Samsung refrigerator's ice maker. It continued to over-spray water causing large ice buildups to form which prevented the ice maker from operating. Each time they came, they would melt the ice buildup, smear some sealant around and call it fixed until the next time which was usually about 3 months later. This time, Asurion told me that they would be doing a "buy-out" on my fridge and a repair person was scheduled to come for the 5th (and supposedly final) diagnostic visit between 2 and 4. At 3:45, the technician called me. He sounded annoyed. He tersely asked how many times his company (Qdexcyma) had been to my home. I said that today would be the 5th time. He asked me what had been done during other visits. I told him that each time a tech had come, they added more sealant to the seams of the ice maker and they used a heat gun or something to melt the ice buildup, then they left. He said, 'OK, I coming.' At 4:06pm the man rang my doorbell (I know the exact time because I have a timed video of his arrival). My husband answered the door to a very angry man. The man said something (heavily accented) to my husband (who doesn't hear well), and thinking the man had been here during one of the previous 4 visits, my husband welcomingly said, 'Go ahead through, it's in the same place.' The man tersely responded, 'I never been here!' The man came into the kitchen where I was standing and imperiously asked me for the service history. Confused, I said "Service history... I don't know what you mean - no one has ever left me any paperwork." He acted disgusted and then, while pulling my ice maker bin out of the malfunctioning unit, asked me again what had been done at past visits. He thrust the ice bin angrily into my hands and said, "This cracked." I said, "Ok... but that has nothing to do with the ice maker not making any ice. This is just the bin that holds the ice." He gave me such a look of fury that I took a step back. Since he had asked me what had been done previously, I started pointing to the previously 'sealed' areas and telling him that the previous technicians had used a heat gun 'or something' to de-ice the unit. He got even nastier when he tersely corrected me saying, 'Heat gun? Or Steamah??" Not being a tech, I said, "Ok - I guess it may have been a steamer..." (I am still standing there holding the ice collection bin.) The man then took out a screwdriver and started taking a screw out of the ice maker. I said "Just a minute...." and started to remind him that I had been told by my Asurion case agent that no repairs were to be done, just diagnostics, because Asurion had advised me that they were going to do a 'buy out'. This man was downright furious! He turned around and angrily started putting his things away muttering that he can't diagnose without taking the entire thing apart. So I said, "Ok, go ahead and do whatever you need to do, I am just telling you what the case agent told me..." He said, 'No, I not do anything! I am going to call and report you.' and he gathered up all of his things and started dialing someone on his phone. So I said (still standing there holding the ice bin), 'Why are you sooo angry? I'm just telling you what they told me.' He said, "I not angry, YOU angry!" I looked straight at him trying to be conciliatory and said, "I'm not at all angry - I'm just trying to show you what's already been done and telling you what I was told by the case agent." Again he said he was "calling office and reporting" me. I am still standing in front of my open refrigerator holding the ice bin as the man is abruptly starting to walk away. At that point, my husband came out and asked, "OK, what's going on here?" The man started walking toward him saying he was calling 'someone' to report me (and something indecipherable) and my husband told him, "Just get out." The angry man had already packed up and was leaving anyway so that was a moot point. The man arrived here angry and left just as angry. He was in his car and gone and I was still standing in my kitchen holding the ice bin in front of my open fridge. All of this took place in FOUR MINUTES. I know this because I have the video of his leaving my home at 4:10pm. FOUR MINUTES!!!! If you are ever foolish enough to buy an extended warranty from Home Depot with Asurion, DON'T EVER let Qdexcyma service your purchase. ..View less
