Are Home Depot Protection Plans Worth Your Money?

Home Depot has been serving their customers for more than 40 years now. Their BBB rating is pretty good showing that their services are seen as efficient and reliable. The protection plans may be suitable if you have purchased appliances from the Home Depot store or you want coverage for building materials, exercise equipment, or tools.

However, they don’t offer comprehensive coverage as compared to other companies. You’d have to buy multiple plans to get adequate coverage. So, if you are looking for extensive options, you can check out the following home warranty companies that are renowned for their services and contractor networks:

Home Depot Home Protection Plans FAQs

Is The Home Depot Protection Plan Worth It?

Home Depot offers extended warranties for your appliances after the expiration of manufacturers’ warranty. These plans may help save the unexpected repair costs that one could encounter without the cover of the manufacturer's warranty. However, the company has faced customer complaints over the rejection of claims and communication issues.

How to register my Home Depot Warranty?

You can register for a Home Depot warranty while buying any of their products at their store. It is the easiest way to do plan registration. If you are purchasing online from their website, it will automatically redirect you to the eligible protection plans. You can select a suitable plan from that page, and it will be added to your cart.

How to get items replaced using Home Depot warranty?

As per Home Depot policy, if they can’t fix the item, they will replace it with a functional equivalent. They may offer you the amount you paid for it including taxes or Home Depot eGift Card, instead of a new unit. You will be provided with exact details at the time of purchase.

How long is home depot appliance warranty?

Most products come with a manufacturer’s warranty that lasts anywhere from 90 days to 1 year from the date of purchase. It covers pre-existing defects and breakdowns. Home Depot offers 3-year and 5-year protection plans for major appliances covering defects, breakdowns, with electrical and mechanical failures.

How does Home Depot extended warranty on power tools work?

For power tools, the company covers:

  • Electrical and mechanical failures
  • Product breakdowns caused by normal usage
  • Fast repairs or replacements
  • Power surge protection
  • No cost on plan transfer

To file a claim, you either fill the online form on their website or call on their 24/7 available line 833-763-0688.

Additionally, if a covered item has already had two service repairs for the same issue and another is needed, then Home Depot will reimburse it in the form of an eGift card.

How Does A Home Depot Protection Plan Work?

You can file a claim through their website or by calling their phone number 833-763-0688. A service technician is assigned to inspect the defect in the appliance and make the necessary repairs. Upon completion of the repair, the deductible amount is due and payable to the technician.

Is the Home Depot protection Plan transferable?

Yes, the Home Depot protection plans are transferable at no extra cost. To transfer a plan, you can call 1-800-466-3337. However, the Lifetime Service plan is non-transferable.

I lost my information for my home depot warranty, now what?

If you have made the payment via credit card, debit card, or a check, the company may be able to locate that in their system within 30 days. Your receipt may be available in their system for 365 days if payment is made via the Home Depot consumer credit card, the Home Depot commercial account, or the Home Depot commercial revolving charge.

Who gives the best warranty, Sears or Home Depot or Lowes?

Sears, Home Depot, and Lowes cover electrical and mechanical failure, damage caused by heat, dust, and humidity. When it comes to pricing, Lowes charges lower rates as compared to others and allows customers to add two to three kitchen and laundry appliances to the same contract. On the other hand, Sears provides 25% off on appliance services, and Home Depot has a limited discount of $50 off going on.

It can be hard to choose between them since they all have something unique to offer. However, you can select a suitable plan as per your requirements and take advantage of their offers.

Does the Home Depot protection plan cover batteries?

No, Home Depot protection plan does not cover batteries under any of their plans.

L* Refrigerator M# LMXS28626S/00 purchased 12/2018 Claim# 1664420144 (1664413729 service) Update 6/28: Received email on Thursday 6/23 that someone would contact me in two days but as usual it took until I called on Tuesday 6/28 to get an answer. That answer an LG tech will be out here on Wednesday 6/29 between 8am-12pm. Ask if he will have replacement part got no answer. Also, asked why this could not have been handled on 6/23 or 6/24 to have the repair done Monday 6/27 just to have the person cut me off stating that it is scheduled now. They were not concerned with situation. This confirms everything I stated below when they are dealing with the customer. If I hadn’t kept some type of documentation of this process I wouldn’t believe it really happened. But it has and is still happening. It is amazing after talking to over 18 different individuals and sending over 14 emails that as the customer we have been treated with such disrespect and indifference. Everyone at every level, including the supervisors, have failed to understand that this was a REFRIGERATOR that is broken and should be resolved immediately NOT continue for 3+ weeks with no urgency to resolve. They have lots of excuse but no resolutions. They have got this process down to a science where they act like they are working towards a resolution but really they end up grinding you down and frustrating you. The process began on 6/9 7:00am and continues as you read this. I was hoping over this period of time that we would have gotten someone with the power to resolve and close this nightmare. Boy was I mistaken. What was the point of the 5-year protection plan? We have been patient, disappointed, hopeful, reasonable and frustrated during this whole process. It is no big deal when it is a microwave, dishwasher, stove, washing machine or dryer but this is a refrigerator! At this point we just want to end this process by taking a buyout for this appliance which is part of the protection plan. But NO we have been continually stonewalled. To Home Depot and LG we are nothing more than a tennis ball sent back and forth over the net, into the black hole of empty space. I have been promised many times along this process that someone would call and talk to me about resolving this issue but to date no one has called me. We have been without of refrigerator for a third weekend in a row. It is all the people, supervisors included, which continually read off scripts that failed to understand that this is a REFRIGERATOR that is not working and shouldn’t take 3+ weeks to resolve. My only question; Is this how a large company treats their customers, who buy their products and/or services, with such contempt and disdain stay in business? This process has brought us to rethink where we will purchase our hardware needs in the future. Don’t buy this protection plan because they will do everything in their power NOT to honor it! ..View less

Dishwasher broken since Jan. Worst experience ever. Techs have been here five separate visits, but because they didn't follow process (which none of the servicers seem to be aware of), I have to go through yet another cycle. Escalation line is a joke-all that is done is assign another visit. Have not once been contacted back for f/u as have been indicated. Will never buy again.

They ordered a compressor and another part which are on back order. I requested a "buy out" on 3/3/22 with the warranty company on the basis that the repair exceeded the cost of the refridge not to mention the parts delay and my tenant has been without a working fridge for 10 days now. It took until 3/7/22 and several phone calls in between to find out that the "buy out" was denied because it is under the 45 days to "repair policy". I was told the part will be in by the end of March. Got that !!! 45 days !!! without a refridgerator. A full week, I called 7 times and was passed on to a Specialist", "Escalation Team", "Field Service Team" or "Customer Care" member 6 of those times with hold times up to 1:23:40 (yes, embarrassed to say, I actually stayed on the line that long listening to elevator music). I kept a log of the phone calls, who I spoke to, the hold times to speak to them, what was promised and if they just hung up on me (3 times). Literally HOURS on hold over a week period to have my Home Depot Extended Warrantee to cover a bad Gas Control Valve on a 3 yr old R**** Hot Water Heater. I am over trying to communicate with people located off shore with (sometimes) accents hard to understand and terrible/broken phone lines. I have been promised follow up calls, emails, up dates... never happened. After a week of no hot water, no in house shower for 3 people, I have cut my losses. Hired another company to install a brand new hot water heater. The R**** hot water is being thrown out the door... getting rid of it!! Find I would rather be happy than right. FYI, Home Depot does NOT stand behind their appliances or warrantee. I physically went to the store that it was purchased, spoke with a senior member who basically said I was SOL. ..View less

Home Depot has the worst Protection Plan through A******. They are a joke, unprofessional and just plain horrible. Please whatever you do stay away from this protection plan. It is a total rip off.
