Home Depot Home Protection Plans

The Home Depot was founded in 1978 by Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank. The founders had a vision to create a one stop shopping spot for hardware and appliance requirements. The company began it’s journey from Atlanta, Georgia and now has stores across all 50 states in the U.S and also in Canada and Mexico. In 2001, the company extended its reach to China by acquiring Total Home. Although the company’s primary business is hardware and appliance retail, Home Depot also offers high quality appliance extended warranty plans to customers across the nation. The Home Depot Company claims that all their plans come at zero deductible fee and offer the best customer service in the industry.

The Home Depot Protection Plan by A****** for my S****** front loading washer was the worst purchase mistake I have ever made. A****** is extremely difficult to deal with, reluctant to schedule a repair, and sends incompetent repair techs. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

I can't even get in touch with the correct person to get my leaf blower fixed! All the numbers provided are bogus! The number on the pamphlet brings you to a different area, they can't address my product in the store because it was bought off homedepot.com. This whole experience has been a waste of time. I'm going to Lowe's!

They still have yet to send food loss and refund for the fridge. They keep horrible notes, send you to other people each time, have you on hold for 30+ minutes. They "lose connection" and dont call back. Send you to other departments and just do everything in their power to have you quit spending your time with them so they dont have to refund you. I have sent emails, called all the numbers and departments there and they all are just horrible. When you get a decent person to work with after two weeks of the claim they just disappear and you start working with another person. I have been on hold for over 45 minutes this time while trying to get the status of the refund (because they ghosted me for over a week now). They claimed they sent a check for the food loss and said they have tried to send it multiple times...not once have I received anything. WORST two-year process of my life with Home Depot and A******. STAY AWAY and never use a S****** fridge and Home Depot protection plan ..View less

Will never buy a protection plan from them again. Filed a claim, the warranty center arranged for p/u of my tractor and then refused to pay for p/u or return as what was wrong with it was not covered. Yet you cannot check what's wrong yourself before filing a claim as that would void the warranty. THIEVES

NEVER, EVER buy an appliance at Home Depot. NEVER buy a GE Appliance. However, if you must, NEVER get an extended warranty. If you do, here is how this will go. You will find your receipt. It will show you paid $125 for an extended 5 year warranty with the washing machine. So you call GE. After a LONG time on hold, they will tell you to call Home Depot. After calling HD and getting transferred to multiple numbers all of which are the wrong place, and spending a LONG time on hold, you get referred to their extended warranty number. You think this is Home Depot. It is actually Asurion. They tell you they can't help you because they need the SKU# for your warranty, which does not appear on your receipt. They tell you to call Home Depot. You call Home Depot. Multiple transfers, multiple holds. Home Depot will proceed to spend the first WEEK telling you their warranty isnt in their system even though you have a receipt and have provided it to them and that they have to 'investigate' it, suggesting that you are somehow attempting to commit fraud. During the course of this week YOU WILL BE ON HOLD WITH MULTIPLE PEOPLE FOR HOURS ON END. THEY WILL THEN REFER YOU TO ANOTHER NUMBER TO CALL. YOU ASK THEM WHO THEY ARE. They are AsuriENT. WHO ARE THEY?? You ask. You explain your whole situation again for about the 8th or 9th time already. They can't find you in their system either. THEN you are told that they were the extended warranty company FOUR YEARS AGO WHEN YOU BOUGHT YOUR MACHINE AND CANNOT HELP YOU. IN FACT, THEY DO NOT KNOW WHY YOU WERE REFERRED TO THEM. After MORE HOURS ON HOLD WITH NUMEROUS PEOPLE AT HOME DEPOT AND ASURION over several days they finally tell you they will honor your warranty. As I say, this takes about a week. So then they will finally schedule you with some local repair outfit. They call you and don't identify themselves but tell you they know what is wrong with your machine and have to order the parts, which will take two weeks. So you give up on the warranty and call GE since they made the machine and you can't wait two more weeks. You schedule them to come out. You haul all the stuff out of your laundry room to give them access to the machine. They come out in a few days, charge you $110 to tell you it will cost $900 to fix a machine you paid $600 for. So you go back to HD. Hours on hold. They say they will send GE out in 2 days. The next day, the first outfit calls you back to say the parts are in but you cancel them because unbeknownst to them Asurion has now assigned GE who is supposed to come the next day. So the next morning in anticipation of the GE technician you haul all the stuff out of your laundry room again. However, the same GE guy who was just there 2 days ago and charged you $110 calls you mid day the day of your appointment, while you're juggling work calls, and says he was just there 2 days ago so he doesnt have to come out again bc he knows what is wrong with your machine and just needs to order the parts. You ask him if he can refund you the $110 and charge it to GE. He says no. Call GE. You call GE. Despite your being referred to their "GE Cares" number and yet still spending almost an hour on hold, GE refuses to reimburse you the $110 and transfer the charge to the Home Depot/Asurion claim. Too much paperwork for GE. Different ticket number. Can't do it. You call Asurion back. Multiple people hang up on you after you spend hours on hold. So you call from both your phones to save time trying to get through. Then after an entire day of calling you get through to someone who tells you your problems are over and they will handle your claim going forward. However you get no email confirmation of this. All they send you is a claim form for laundry expenses and for the $110 GE bill. However, it turns out GE neither gave you nor emailed you a receipt. You call GE Cares and spend hours on hold. You get hung up on. Finally they tell you they will mail it. In the mail. They can't email it. So you're now over 2 weeks without a machine. You dont hear from anyone or get an email. You think they've ordered the parts. Then you get an email saying your claim is closed. You call Asurion again. VERY long hold. Maybe 40 minutes. They assure you despite the email that the claim is NOT closed and you will hear from someone. You don't. After a few days You call HD/Asurion and GE back. You get hung up on a few times after being on hold forever. You finally get a hold of someone at Asurion who says they will look into it. Hold. Turns out the parts were never ordered and there was no open ticket. But now Asurion says on the phone that they've opened a new ticket with GE who Asurion says will order the parts and send them to your house. This will take a week. They don't know why the parts werent ordered last week, but assure you that from here on out you will be assigned a specific claims person so you will not have to keep calling and being placed on hold and that person will stay on top of the claim. That person never emails or calls. You call Asurion again. Long hold. You are finally told what day GE is scheduled to come. You again beg- BEG for an email confirmation this time. The claims customer service person on the phone, "Sherrie," grudgingly sends a terse email confirming your repair date. Meanwhile, because you are beyond livid at this point, you also call GE Cares to ask why the parts were never ordered. After hours on hold and again being hung up on a few times, they just say they dont know. They dont say theyre sorry. They don't care. So you call the GE technician's cell to ask him why he never ordered the parts. He accuses you of stalking for calling him ONLY ONE TIME to ask that simple question. He tells you to call GE Cares and ask them, despite clearly being aware that you've already done that. Then he hangs up on you. A week goes by. The parts finally arrive at your house. You haul them inside. You call GE a few days later on the morning of your alleged scheduled repair to confirm. They call 20 minutes before arrival. You have a work call scheduled at that time. You quickly haul everything out of your laundry room to make room for them to work, which is THE THIRD TIME you have done this. You dont get to eat lunch. They show up and work while you are on work calls at home. This includes using loud power tools. They spend an hour working on it, installing all the parts. Then they tell you it's still not fixed. They need to order more parts. Someone will call before the end of the day and they will try to expedite it. They hurriedly leave. Because it's pouring rain, they leave you all the boxes with all the old parts to take out to the trash yourself. Nobody calls. It's 4:45. You email Asurion. Nobody responds. You call GE. You get put on endless hold. You are subjected to recordings about caring and wanting to provide excellent customer service. You call Asurion again. Five times. During which you get put back on hold, transferred to other holds, lied to that youre being transferred to 'supervisors' multiple times, and to a completely wrong department once. Each time they give either no information or conflicting information about what is going on. One says they see you're rescheduled for a week from now. Another one said he 'assumed' that the parts were ordered and sent to the GE service center. You point out that the last set of parts were sent to your house. He's surprised by this. On the 5th call you are again promised a supervisor if you could wait 4 minutes on hold. You wait 15. The 'supervisor' comes on and notes that it's now too late for her to call GE bc they are closed. She tells you you will be assigned a caseworker who will call you tomorrow. You point out that you were told that over a week ago. She says she "noted the file" so whoever you talk to going forward will know what is going on. You tell her you were also told that a week ago. You again ask if this caseworker could email you. Youre told they dont do that. After over an hour on the phone and 4 hours after the technicians left a box of trash in the middle of your floor, you still do not have an email advising you what the plan is, or confirming when or if your next appointment is scheduled. You also submitted the GE service call bill and the claim for laundromat expenses that morning to Asurion. You have not received a response. You will be over a month without a washing machine. During a pandemic. Back to the laundromat you go, where again, several people are neither wearing masks nor social distancing. You submit the claim for this laundry to Asurion. They tell you they will only cover half of it. They offer no explanation as to why, but their email suggests they are doing you a favor. On the morning of what was to be the final service call, the technician calls at 7:58 AM to say he will be there in 15 minites and his partner will be there sooner. You frantically shower. They knock as you are finishing dressing. You open the door and ask them for a moment to secure the dogs, which they require. You rush the dogs outside and close the back door and run to the front door to let them in. You hurriedly start moving all the stuff out of the laundry room. In less than 60 seconds you are almost done and the technician makes a snide remark, obviously to provoke you, about how you should have done this before they arrived. You point out that you only had 15 minutes and needed to shower. He says you should have done it the night before. You are trying to bite your tongue but you put one  of the dog snack containers down on the counter a little too hard and he uses this as an excuse to say they will not be treated this way. He clearly arrived with the intent of provoking you. They leave you with a pile of stuff in the middle of your kitchen. You never hear from any of them again. You have been without a washing machine for 5 weeks. You call another repair service but because it is a two man job he cannot find someone to do it for another four days. It will cost $250. You give up and call your local appliance guy who has fixed your stove and refrigerator.  He quickly diagnoses and fixes the problem and is mystified at why the technicians couldnt figure it out. Bottom line--the entire thing is a scam populated with people who are not just incompetent but deliberately and collusively sadistic.  Not a single one of them should be in customer service. ..View less

Awful. Nothing but lies and inconsistencies. Couldn't find parts, claimed they did, still couldn't get it done. Lied about parts, buy backs, if they couldn't or could do things. Even two store managers agreed it should have been handled differently. Every person says a different thing on how the plan works. Just save cash and buy a new one
