Home Depot Home Protection Plans

The Home Depot was founded in 1978 by Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank. The founders had a vision to create a one stop shopping spot for hardware and appliance requirements. The company began it’s journey from Atlanta, Georgia and now has stores across all 50 states in the U.S and also in Canada and Mexico. In 2001, the company extended its reach to China by acquiring Total Home. Although the company’s primary business is hardware and appliance retail, Home Depot also offers high quality appliance extended warranty plans to customers across the nation. The Home Depot Company claims that all their plans come at zero deductible fee and offer the best customer service in the industry.

So Home Depot keeps letting Asurion rip you off. We bought a Whirlpool refrigerator with a bottom freezer. When you close the refrigerator the freezer door opens. Asurion has sent people here 4 times and can't repair it. We called them again and without the tech coming to look at it for the 5th time he ordered seals ( which we suggested the first time) Now we can't get a hold of the tech. Home Depot should be ashamed of selling you this warranty knowing that Asurion will not repair it right our replace it. Never buy a appliance from Home Depot. They should get NO star!!!! ..View less

I cannot believe the debacle that was my attempt to get service on a Whirlpool apartment-size washer/dryer stack, which I purchased for a rental unit along with a 4-year extended warranty through Home Depot. Problem was taking 5 or 6 cycles to properly dry a load. The repair company told my tenant that the washer and dryer units would have to be unstacked, which is ridiculous - the unit ships as one piece. Unknownst to me my tenant disassembled the unit anyway. Repair company then rescheduled service twice. My tenant should not have been told to take the unit apart in the first place. Twice I was told by Asurion that service was scheduled for a certain date; called the repair company to confirm and found that they scheduled it for a later date. I finally called a local repair man whom I trust; we put it back together and solved the problem. Had I called him in the first place, the problem would have been resolved in a few days; instead 3 weeks were wasted trying to get warranty service. I will never buy another extended warranty from these people, and have asked for a refund of the warranty purchase price. We'll see how that goes. I would rate this zero stars if I could. ..View less

Purchased LG stove, 18 months later oven wont turn on, called Asurion the company that HD uses for extended warrantys for, 2 days now this week I have taken off work waiting for the repair person to come and never does. Called them several times and all I get is the runaround. NEVER buy appliances from Home Depot, use your local appliance company!

Bought a $4,700 refrigerator from Home Depot and, trusting their name in the market, I bough the extended warranty. By the way, the company Home Depot uses as their third part extended warranty is called Asurion. Look them up on line before you purchase, there are many accusations of fraud. Anyway, my Ice Breaker broke and the freezer handle came loose. I put a claim and Asurion send a technician to my house. He said that those refrigerators have multiple problems and that the parts would be beordered and my refrigeratior should be back to normal in two weeks. I don't want to bore you with the details but after countless calls and online chats with Asurion it took me on a trip to nowhere. They are dishonest and their customer service is awefull. Over two months have gone by and there is no hope. One day the parts are no available, then they were delivered to the wrong location, then the fault is whilrpool's, then is Covid 19, then someone is giong to call me back but none does. Home Depot should be ashamed of allowing a company like this one to cheat their trusting customers. They will never help you or get back to you. Please, please beware. I will never buy a single thing From HD again. Im giving one star because there is no option for 0 stars ..View less

Bought 5 year for Samsung refrigerator. The ice maker frequently froze up. Home depot arranged a serviceman to repair. Coming to end of 5 years ice maker froze up again. A call to asurion telling them the refrigerator was a lemon. First call not satisfying which lead to second call going up the supervisor ladder. On that call I requested to speak to their supervisor. Throughout this process of filing a claim I was never confident of a successful outcome. A few days later supervisor #3 called me back. She gathered the details of all the repairs over the five years. She suggested I would receive a positive outcome. Two or three weeks later after receiving many calls asking if I received a check a check was received for the full purchase price $2,714. Because of all the negative reviews I never thought I would receive a check. Not only did I receive a check I kept the refrigerator. In some instances with other warranty plans the refrigerator is picked up. I don’t know how I was so lucky. Given my experience with this home depot warranty plan with asurion I give a rating of 5 star. ..View less

I bought a 5 year Home Depot warranty for a Kitchen Aid dishwasher in 2017. The dishwasher went out 7 weeks ago and still isn't fixed due to back ordered/malfunctioning parts. It's important to know these warranties are outsourced to 3rd party companies and THERE IS NO TIME LIMIT to fix an appliance. The company in Dallas that tries to repair the appliance is called Guinco. If they can't fix it then they punt your claim back to Asurion for a buy out. You the consumer are caught between multiple companies who will not give you a straight answer. If you go back to the store where you purchased the appliance and ask for help they will only refer you back to the 3rd party service companies. The goal is clearly a game of consumer frustration to get you to break down and buy a new appliance after slow playing the process. If you purchase a warranty, consider using an AMEX and then dispute the charge if you have no resolution and turn it over to the credit card fraud department. Also, ask the Home Depot sales rep to add a time frame to the repair/resolution process. I would pay double for the warranty if they would fix it within a week. ..View less

Been on the phone on hold over 2 hours getting switched around. After giving my lengthy information about my washer 2 times I was then disconnected. Again waiting on hold for the supervisor more than 6 minute hold time ******** said. Now 9 minutes...the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. You are just a call for their numbers for the day

I needed service for my icemaker on my LG Refrigerator. I have been trying for weeks. First you wait forever for them to come on the line, then they put you though hell. The rep could not of been ruder. I was almost in tears. I even cut my finger doing the things he was asking me to do. He didn't care. I will never purchase a Home Depot appliance again and I have been a customer for years.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. This is a scam. Our dishwasher showed a leak error after 2 years. 2 teenage guys from Asurion came to check out the unit. They said that it was broken during installation and that they cannot do anything. There is nothing broken, only a tiny piece under the springs, crearly from usage, but no, they said there was damage to the door, which is a LIE. I really want my $200 back!

Like just about everyone else on this site, Id give a zero star rating if I could. It has now been a year with the same problem on my Samsung washer. Ive had four separate tech incidents (which adds up to 8 visits since once a problem is diagnosed a return visit for the replacement part install occurs.) My experience with first-level Asurion support has been acceptable. Some wait on hold but not outrageous. Polite agents. Im now at the point of requesting a "buy-out" (per the contract terms) since, obviously, nothing has helped to fix the problem. Getting through to a supervisor takes 1-hour on hold IF youre not disconnected in the interim. Finally reached a supervisor last week and she was going to escalate to her manager and call me back. Still waiting.... Now Im on hold for a supervisor and was told the waits are about 1-1/2 hours today. I asked if they could send a message so a spvr would call me back when available rather than waiting on hold. I was told they previously had that function but discontinued it because too many people were asking to speak to a supervisor and they dont have the capacity to call back. HUH? Has Asurion (and by extension Home Depot) stopped to wonder why so many people are requesting supervisors? Could they possibly have a problem on their end? Ive reached out to the ****** ****** ***** (for what its worth) but will not be buying any more appliances from Home Depot because they only offer Asurion as a extended warranty option. Its a shame. Home Depot normally provides good customer service but in this case, it doesnt extend to their sub-contractors. ..View less

The extended warranty is a gimmick and waste time and money. The support for the warranty service is unhelpful and have NO knowledge of what good customer service is but that is obvious from all the other review. Disappointing!

At that time I was informed that the extended coverage covered everything. It is a waste of money. A few days ago, the caster attached to the body of the refrigerator that enables the glide and serve drawer to slide and glide split from the body of the refrigerator leaving a 3" x 1" hole in the actual refrigerator. I called the Home Depot and was referred to their insurance department. I found out from them, this is considered cosmetic and is not covered beyond the initial 1 year warranty that LG covers. They told me that parts are sometimes covered 50% and that after I purchased the part from LG I could e-mail the receipt to Asurion (which handles their Insurance claims) for possible consideration. They directed me to call LG which I did and they informed me that since the 1 year initial warranty had expired, I could buy a part from the LG Parts Department. After being transferred several times, finally someone was able to tell me that there is no part for the body of the refrigerator. This is very disappointing. I spent $3,000 on a refrigerator plus $250 in extending the warranty only to find out that after 3 years, I have a refrigerator with a hole and that neither Home Depot nor LG can fix it. ..View less

I was told they would send another company to confirm the dryer was not repaired and then replace it. Well imagine my surprise when they sent a 2nd company out to repair the dryer. This company is now on their 3rd visit and the dryer is still not repaired and I keep getting the same response from the "customer service team" at Asurion, that I need to have patience and allow them the opportunity to repair the dryer. At WHAT point does patience wear out? I would say 8 weeks is a pretty good time to lose all patience and faith this dryer will ever be repaired or replaced. If I had known it was this much of a hassle and this long of a wait coupled with the sheer incompetence to get this dryer repaired, I would have declined this warranty and just took my chances. I would have had an operational dryer as soon as the other one broke and not been inconvenienced for the past 2 months, in the midst of a pandemic. I would rather not have a warranty than to ever willingly and knowingly choose an Asurion warranty again. ..View less
