Residential Warranty Services Claims & Customer Service

A repair or replacement claim for the malfunction of the equipment submitted under the RWS contract is categorized under three claim types: Emergency Claim, Urgent Claim, and Non-Emergency Claim.

Here is how you can file a claim:

  • You can call on the phone number (1-800-544-8156) of Residential Warranty Services to file the claim in between the working hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on weekdays (Monday through Friday).
  • If the claim does not fall under the scheduled coverage, then you will be informed not to pay the deductible for the non-warranty issues.
  • If the claim appears to fall under the warranty coverages provided, then the processor will forward your claim to a contractor.
  • The contractor will then call you to schedule an appointment time at your earliest convenience.
  • A service call fee is to be paid by you to the company or the contractor. RWS will, however, bear the expense of repair or replacement.

Residential Warranty Services claims to have provided warranty services to almost 3.7 million households. The company aims to build relationships with their customers.

What are some of the exclusions of Residential Warranty Services Plans?

RWS contracts only cover the items within the perimeter of the home's foundation and associated garages. Appliances will only be treated if they are damaged due to normal wear and tear. The company will not cover appliances that have been damaged due to natural disasters or acts of God.

The company has the authority to determine whether a device should be fixed or replaced. The replacements will have comparable capacity and features; however, RWS is not responsible for matching brands, colors, measurements, or altering cabinets or structures of any sort. In addition, the company has the right to offer cash instead of item replacement (which may cost less than retail pricing).

They will not cover leased equipment and any systems and appliances with pre-existing conditions. Although they provide services for equipment that have been improperly installed, these services are subject to specific limitations and circumstances.

Residential Warranty Services is not liable for any damaged items due to a sewer or water line failure or repair. You may learn more about RWS restrictions and exclusions by going through the sample service contract.

Is Residential Warranty Services Worth The Money?

Residential Warranty Services has provided warranty services to almost 3.7 million households in 33 years of business. Their customers can avail of various benefits like the inclusion of accessory parts.

However, RWS Advantage Plan covers less than the industry standard. If you’re looking for a low-cost plan with limited coverage options for a newer home, have a look at the Best Home Warranty Companies of 2021. Based on the customer reviews and preferences, these three home warranty companies also offer a comprehensive coverage plan and good pricing.

I just renewed my policy and coverage with RWS. The agent was really helpful and explained everything I needed to know. For the amount of coverage and premium, they are the best I know.

The technician was polite, knowledgeable, and a quick worker. He went beyond what was expected and cleaned after his work. He also gave me some tips on how to keep the air conditioner clean and working properly.

They set an appointment ASAP. I didn’t have to wait for days and even weeks just like my previous company. The repairman came on time and explained everything he was doing. Completely satisfied with their services.

Stay Away!!! This company is a scam. They will require you to provide so much detail and information regarding a situation (for me it was a roof leak) that it becomes prohibitive. And, of course, customer service NEVER answers the phone for claims, but they will immediately answer the phone when you select the 'get a policy' option. SCAM!

Our gas furnace was blowing cold air and this was happening in the middle of winter. Good thing the person who took my call for a claim was very helpful. She asked me about the details and gave me the appointment schedule. Repairman arrived the following day and fixed the problem.

We had problems with our garage door for more than a week and finally decided to call RWS to have this fixed. They confirmed that it was covered under our home warranty policy and immediately scheduled a technician to have this checked. The repairman arrived as scheduled and fixed our garage door within the day. Good thing he had the replacement parts ready.

Terrible customer service. Have been waiting over a month for a settlement on a defective dishwasher. They sent out a repair company that could not repair it. They offered less then what it would cost to repair if possible and half of the cost to replace.

The repairman checked everything and explained the problem. He left his contact number if I had any questions and he would send a report to RWS. He told me that if everything is approved he would be coming back to replace the defective part. He came back the following day and repaired our air conditioner.

Our air conditioner was making weird noises and suddenly was not working anymore. Called Residential Warranty Services and set up a claim for our broken air conditioner. I received a notification that technician would be coming in the next morning. He was able to fix the problem pretty quickly.

NOT RECOMMENDED. I normally don’t write reviews and if there’s a lot of great reviews and a few bad I will rely on the good ones. But trust me on this DO NOT PURCHASE A WARRANTY FROM RESIDENTIAL WARRANTY SERVICES. Ignore the good ones this is the worst company ever. We had a washer go out in April of 2021 , they sent out a service tech we paid the deductible and washer was deemed not fixable. To this date 12/07/2021 we have received not one penny from the warranty company. There always full of excuses . First they claimed the repair company didn’t send the paperwork to them. Well it’s a company you use and sent them to my home. Then excuse after excuse . Next had a clogged drain called out company after the warranty company instructed us to since the companies they called never came Paid that bill submitted a claim and still not a penny from them. Phone call after phone call and nothing but excuses saying the check is on its way. That was months ago. Waiting on a call back today. Let’s see what excuse they have now. AGAIN I WOUKD NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AND LET OUR REALTOR WHO PURCHASED THE WARRANTY THRU OUR HOME BUYING TO NOT ISE THEM EITHER !!!!!!! Not even worthy of 1 star ..View less

Glad they made sure to send a technician to check our refrigerators. We have another one working but the main freezer for our stocked meat broke down and needed to be checked. Such a relief that they fixed it quickly. RWS is always reliable and we are happy how they go around these things to help us!

The processor helping us was friendly and clearly explained our options moving forward and our specific coverage after to set up an appointment and the issue was fixed. It only took two days between the call and the technician coming to our home. He checked our central air conditioner and said that the compressor was not working. He was very thorough with his inspection and made sure that this was the defective part. Good thing this was covered by RWS. I am very satisfied with my first claim and how it was resolved.

They sent a technician to check our fridge which was not working. He said that he had to order a compressor, and this would take 2 to 3 days. He came back with the replacement and repaired our fridge. It’s been a week since our fridge started acting but we understand that it’s not their fault. Glad that we have Residential Warranty Services for our home coverage.

If you are looking for a home warranty, I would strongly suggest looking at a different and more respectable company. After being a homeowner for over 20 years, I have worked with a few. September 27th my AC unit went out while I was out of town.  I submitted on the 29th when I returned home. According to the policy it should take no longer than 72 hours for something to be fixed, (SCAM RED FLAG the fine print at the end of the policy states that they can take as long as they want to fix something).  I get S*****’*  H****** and C****** (Who I have used for years and worked with past home warranties on multiple occasions) to look at it. They show it is a leaking coil, and the coil needed to be replaced and the system recharged which would be approximately $3000 mainly due to the R22 Freon.  I submit the paperwork from the contractor and the waiting game begins.  Over the next few weeks, I called on 9 separate occasions(SCAM RED FLAG With every call, they needed something new).  S****** ended up coming out 3 separate times to provide new diagnostic services they needed but never stated in previous phone calls.  Just today, when I called they told me they needed an amount of Freon the system would hold. I showed them on 3 of the 4 different estimates (they required me to submit), it specifically said between 6 and 7 lb.  It is now the 20th of October and I am still waiting for the repairs to be started. Their attempt wait out the policy without paying, or strong arm me into renewing the policy. My policy ends at the end of October. I have received emails, calls, and texts daily to remind me how great their services are and that I need to renew my policy.  After calling them 4 times to day and every time asking for a manager (SCAM RED FLAG as they never allowed for me to talk to anyone else) or someone who knew what was going on. I finally got a call on the coverage. C****** from the claims department called to say, they would pay $927, to replace the coil. I asked for a written copy / email of the coverage and the calculations used for this amount. She responded this information could not be provided in writing only verbally (HUGE SCAM RED FLAG). The verbal break down. 478 for the coil. 300 for 4 hours of work. 240 for 6 lb Freon Anyone who works in this the R22 Freon the system required would more. 59 reimbursement for the one of the 3 times I had to have S****** out. Minus the service, call fee of 150.  So after everything I paid for which they don’t cover to get to this point there is about 400 left to fix my AC. The check would be mailed to me in 30 days. 2 months to fix AC leaking coil. (SCAM RED FLAG the fine print in the policy they do not cover any damages incurred by waiting for repairs). So if this is your furnace in winter and your pipes break you are screwed. If you are buying a home warranty, please take you home warranty needs anywhere else and save yourself the headache.  If you are a realtor, please do not accept or write any agreements with them in it. Regardless of where you go, your money is best spent elsewhere. ..View less
