Sears Home Warranty Costs

The Appliance Plan costs $49.99 per month, whereas the Systems Plan costs around $59.99 per month. The Whole Home Plan is a comprehensive plan with a monthly cost of $69.99.

The service fee ranges between $75-$100, depending on the plan you have selected. The plan premium increases if you purchase any additional items.

The average range of coverage offered by these plans stands at $1000-$1500. However, you might get higher coverage of $10,000 for your appliances and systems, subject to dollar payout limitations for each home system or appliance. Therefore, you can enjoy higher coverage limits than the industry standards with a Sears plan.

Sears provides exclusive benefits and discounts during the 30-day waiting period, from the date of purchase. You can take advantage of discounts on appliance repairs if you have purchased the Systems Plan. Those who have purchased the Appliance Plan get discounts on HVAC and water heater repairs.

Sears Home Warranty Claims and Customer Service

Cinch Home Service is responsible for handling the customer portal and service requests for Sears. To file your claim on the date of malfunction, follow these steps:

  • Log in to your account on the website or call the phone number (1-855-256-2467) to place your request. Sears Home Warranty customer service is available 24/7.
  • The company processes service requests within two hours.
  • The company will schedule an appointment with a third-party service technician to diagnose the problem.
  • When the service technician visits your home, you must pay the deductible, as per your contract. The technician then diagnoses and repairs the broken item.

Sears provides emergency services where they prioritize and expedite services. However, the request is prioritized at the discretion of the company.

Sears Home Warranty Exclusions

Sears Home Warranty contracts have a term of 1 year, during which time all the clauses would apply to the buyer and company. The contracts are auto-renewed before the term expires. You can also upgrade your existing plan to a higher coverage plan by paying additional charges.

Any appliances or home systems that are not mentioned in the contract are not eligible for coverage. The plans cover the repair costs of system and appliance breakdowns resulting from normal wear and tear. Any pre-existing conditions should be verified before signing the contract, as known conditions won’t be covered.

In case of damage, you have to file a claim on the day of the malfunction. If the failure recurs within 180 days after the repairs, the service technician will visit again at no extra cost. The reimbursements for repair and replacements are subject to limitations, as per the contract.

The plan is effective after 30 days, from the date of purchase, for one year. However, the company provides a refund, in full, if you cancel the contract within 30 days of signing. After 30 days, a cancellation fee of $25 is charged. If you sell your home, you can transfer the contract to a new homeowner by paying $25.

Sears Home Warranty: Worth It?

Sears Home Warranty plans offer unique benefits to customers. Sears offers special discounts on auto repair services to their home warranty customers. They have a vast network of pre-screened technicians who work actively to resolve the claims filed. The company has over two decades of experience, during which they have built a solid reputation in the market.

On the downside, their premium and service charges are slightly above the industry average. In addition, a few customers have faced issues, such as unexpected costs, repair delays, and communication issues.

Buyer Beware! When we bought our appliances through Sears, we opted for the maintenance and warranty agreements on them. But then Sears went out of business and we were convinced to purchase the Sears Home Warranty plan as a means going forward. And on the surface, it looks like a great idea. They do come out and repair your appliances, so long as its a hardware issue and not a functional problem like rollers on the pull out dishwasher tray, or fixing broken refrigerator drawers and doors. Also be aware that the Home Warranty does not cover things like microwaves, or standalone freezers. These youll have to pay extra for, which is fine, except that they neglect to send you the forms to add them on in short 30 day period where you can add them at the beginning of your plan. No adding them on later. So, lets get to the nuts and bolts of the matter, shall we? Lets discuss the actual repair and call center experiences. Over a year ago, my refrigerator started to not cool, so I put in a repair request. A technician came out and told me that the problem was that I hadnt cleaned the back of the unit and that for an additional fee, would be happy to do it for me. Since all it was was removing a bit of dust, I did it myself. Surprisingly, this was not the cure I was hoping for, because my refrigerator continued its downward trend of temperature. So, I called again, and arranged for another technician to come out. They came out and assessed the unit and declared that by ordering these parts, and having them replaced, theyd be able to fix the problem. So parts were ordered (at no expense to me) and two weeks later, parts and a repair tech showed up. Fast forward, several other repair tech visits where one technician contradicts another technician on what needs to be fixed or repaired - all the while not actually getting me a working, functional refrigerator. Enter the phase where the unit has been deemed "unrepairable". (Mind you, the unit had been working fine for five years without a problem.) I get technicians telling me to call the call center and tell them to not send another technician as the unit is unrepairable. (And I have seen the technicians write in their reports that the unit is unrepairable and needs to be recalled and replaced. This is important for later.) I call the call center, even speak to several different case managers (the layer above the call center people you first talk to when youre beginning your slow winding path down to calling the BBB and the State Attorney Generals office). ALL of them insist that its policy for them to send out a technician to verify that the unit is unrepairable before the Authorization Department (a mythical department, if you ask me) can issue the "recall and replace" order. Foolishly, I believed them. So they sent out a technician, who actually did a really good job of assessing the unit, for a change. He agreed that the unit should probably be recalled, but that he was to order the parts in case the Authorization (again, mythical) department decides that they want the company to repair the unit. (Yes, I actually face palmed.) This was after the refrigerator internal unit was replaced, the freezer internal unit was replaced. The blowers were replaced. Everything on the inside of the unit had been replaced, including some bits and panel units on the back, including the holy grail of parts - the compressor. (Ive learned more now about refrigerator parts than I ever thought possible!) And after every one of those had been replaced, the techs all assured me that this would fix it. So, in the two week waiting period, boxes of parts show up. Clearly the Authorization department (or whatever yahoo) decided the unit was to be again repaired. And the technician showed up, looked at the pile of parts, and declared he only needed to swap out two pieces from the massive pile of boxes. And afterwards, he cheerfully stood up, after measuring the internal temperature and noting that the temperature had dropped a few degrees (from room temperature on a hot summer afternoon), and declared the unit "fixed". I was to wait for 24 hours, but the refrigerator would be cool and the freezer cold by then. The temperature didnt drop. It didnt drop 12 hours later, 24 hours later, 48 hours later I was back on the phone with the call center being told that they needed to send out a technician to verify that the unit doesnt work. Which I foolishly agreed to. Which led to another "this unit is unrepairable, please recall and replace" report is filed, followed by another technician to verify - but this one just came to the door and asked if the unit was still not working. I said "no, is it going to be recalled and replaced," and he said, "yes, maam. Recalled and replaced." Two weeks later, I get a text on my phone alerting me that I had an appointment scheduled. I, like the overly optimistic puppy that I am, thought that they were finally coming to deliver me a replacement unit. And the Sears Home Warranty people seemed more eager for me to be at home for this scheduled appointment (which was more aggressive than theyve ever been on any of the prior appointments.) The technician on the day, a one "Step***", was delayed and revised his arrival time. No matter, I thought. Im getting my new refrigerator. Ive waited this long, right? So "Step***" calls me when hes 20 minutes out. And I asked him if he was bringing me my replacement refrigerator. There was a long pause, "no maam. This is just a repair appointment." Flabbergasted, I asked who set up the repair appointment, as it certainly had not been done so by me. He suggested that the last techs visit mustve triggered the appointment, as its all automatic now. He suggests calling the call center in a week. I called the next day. I speak to three different agents at the call center. The first one disconnected the line when he was attempting to connect me with the Claims manager. The second one was absolutely rude and shunted me off into some call center hell where I was made to jump through hoops punching in information only to be confronted with having to enter a code that I did not possess. The third was a kindly gentleman who did some digging for me and did say he found that there was a recall and replace order in the system, but that it hadnt yet made it far enough to actually give me a date of delivery. He said someone should call me within the next five business days. I gave them two weeks. And I didnt hear squat. No phone call, no email, no text. So I call them again, go through the call center nonsense, finally get kicked up to the Claims Manager who says she cannot find anywhere in the files that a "recall and replace" order had been filed by any of the technicians. *Refer to earlier when I said I saw several of the repair technicians say in their reports that the unit was unfixable and that the unit needs to be recalled and replaced. Not only that, but the last technician, "Step***" revised his report a few days after the "visit" and he claimed, on the report, that the "house was too dirty for him to come into the home to look at the unit". Liar. How can he say that when he never showed up? The house is clean. He couldve gotten to the refrigerator had he walked through the door. I am beyond furious that Sears Home Warranty works with technicians that lie like that. To say nothing of the constant runaround I get from the call center and the claims managers and the non-existent authorization department. Ive been without a working refrigerator for over a year now. My husband and daughter are on medications that need to be refrigerated. (We had to buy a dorm sized unit just for this purpose.) So if you like spending endless hours on the phone and getting service that ranges from surly to slightly below superb, then this is the plan for you. Ps. Dont even get me started about the dishwasher. They "fixed" it less than three months ago and now the pump and motor have died. ..View less

Then the appliance still does not work, leaks, or does not work properly. I am not sure if it is worth the cost of the warranty if I need the appliance repaired sooner or if I have to have to have them keep coming back to repair the same problem more than once if they did not fix it right the first time. When talking to the scheduler , if you do not do it online or with the automatic voice scheduler, the customer service rep is very hard to understand. Their English is not very good. It is frustrating to have to keep asking them to repeat what they are saying over and over again. I wish they would please have American based customer service phone reps to talk to. ..View less

Do not choose this warranty company thinking it is the Sears of old. We grew up buying and servicing everything from Sears however this no longer our experience. We have only had a few claims and they were ok, certianly nothing special, other than Ja** the repair guy and the last guy who finally fixed the refrigerator ice machine by replacing it--both were really good. Of late, it seems as their home warranty program does nothing more than collect premiums. Our AC broke on July 5, 2022 and we continue to be pushed off despite 3 weeks of over 100 degree weather. I have called repeatedly and if i hear "I understand your frustration" when they tell me i have to wait for another letter", i dont know what. They have no local vendors to service our AC so i have had three companies out all saying the same thing...the machine is 26 years old and cannot be repaired due to regulatory issues===R22 is now illegal so even if they could repair it, it cannot be filled to become functional. It is doubtful they could even repair it due to age of the device. Our provider talked with their technical people on August 1, 2022 and they said we would hear in 2-3 days. Today they told me it is with authorizations and it will be 7-10 or more business days. Each person reads from a script. I do not understand why this is taking so long. Not one company i talked to was willing to work with Sears due to past experiences and i called over 8 companies. Luckily the guy from Weste** heating and air did and answered all their questions. He was hopeful. that was on August 1, 2022. Do not i repeat do not use this company. unfortunately i am stuck as it is broken and i cannot go to another company now. i do not recommend Sears home warranty. ..View less

I am a long time (16+ years) customer of the Sears Master Protection Agreement. While I've had good customer support historically, recently the red tape and circus act, has infuriated me to the point of cancelling my agreement and moving to a more responsive and respectable company. I understand product and part delays due to COVID and I'll flex with the best of us, but I am now officially in a 4-month endless cycle of pass-offs and delays regarding a washer that was deemed unrepairable, and approved for product replacement. I settled on an IN-STOCK washer and set a delivery date (rather lengthy 3 weeks) with the Product Replacement Department. Two days prior to delivery, I receive a call informing me that my washer is not available and they must reschedule. Again, 3 week delivery window. Tonight I receive a call informing me I need to reschedule my delivery set for tomorrow for another week. After making it through several departments (1 hour) I speak to a case worker who informs me I must either wait or cancel and pick another product, they will not provide a cash payout and put me out of my misery. Understand I purchased the matching dryer out of pocket at another store, which arrived in 5 days! His response was that he did not tell me to buy the dryer prior to their delivery. Seriously, excellent customer service! Tonight I learn about hard and soft delivery dates. Apparently a soft date is when the product is NOT in stock, but they are selling it to you regardless. A hard date means it is in the warehouse. Way to bait and switch Sears. Take a look at the reviews for the GE Sapphire washer/dryer and you will see MANY reviews with the same delivery issue. This is how you lose confidence and go out of business. So here I sit, hostage to an unhelpful, imperfect process, WITHOUT a washer 4 months later. UNACCEPTABLE! Honor your contracts, and your word and provide my replacement as promised or provide my agreed replacement as cash value. Next, Shareholder Meeting. ..View less

My impression was that the contractors were not as experienced as Sears technicians. The other is that you'll wait. And wait. And wait. We had a lot go out in a relatively short period of time, which you might think would be fortunate, but it was in fact just the opposite. We got a payment relatively quickly for one appliance, though it was not nearly replacement cost. Then we had another appliance go out, and we had several visits, stretched out over a couple of months, before we got a check for that. Then we had a third appliance go out, and this time we had at least a half-dozen visits, often separated by weeks as they waited for parts, and each time it didn't work. We went for *months* without a critical appliance. One of the technicians told us that he didn't think it could be repaired, but that Cinch would not give the authorization to replace. I understand that you're not supposed to speculate as to their motivation in these reviews, but I think you can figure out what was going on. The upshot is that it was a terrible experience. I would gladly have traded paying the replacement cost for the frustration of going months without key appliances. ..View less

Reported washer problem in April. 1st tech ordered parts. 2nd tech arrived but said he needed more parts so he ordered. 3rd tech arrived but was missing just one half dollar size washer, so ordered. Was told next repair visit would be July 14 between 10 and 2. It’s after 2 now, no tech. Cannot log on to web site because of incorrect password. The system states I have been sent a link to change password, but have not received email or link. Have been on phone for over 30 minutes with no human contact. This was apparently a very bad decision to trust Sears Home Warranty. I could not and will not recommend. I tried to rate 0 stars but had to rate 1! ..View less

Terrible company!!! Scheduled & received a confirmed appointment for 7/11/2022. On line the appointment displayed as confirmed, technician never came. Only option is an online change where I was informed the appointment was cancelled and I needed to make another (no notification of the cancellation and website still displayed Confirmed). Only option is an online change where I was informed the appointment was cancelled and I needed to make another (no notification of the cancellation and website still displayed Confirmed). Made another appointment but it would be 2 weeks later. On Tuesday 7/12/2022 I received a text inquiring how my appointment for 7/11 went was the service satisfactory! Unfortunately, there is no option other than Y/N, just trying to get a refund but obviously no chance of that. What a scam. ..View less

Terrible company. No support. No one answers the phone for customer service. Scheduled an appointment for the same problem had before with a dishwasher but it's more than a MONTH before I can get service. May wait for the service because it's already paid for and then definitely CANCEL. Horrible company.

This company SUCKS! We have been trying to get our washer repaired for 2 months now! Constant mix ups with ordering parts and repairs service getting cancelled and rescheduled, then after a month and half they finally came out and did the repair, but something still seems broken or not repaired properly, so I scheduled them to come back out and get hit with another $75 service charge which I had to dispute, fingers crossed it gets refunded. They set someone up to come out tomorrow, and guess what, they cancelled to service without anyone coming out or telling us I just happened to check the service request on cinch, marked as closed! WTF how did you close it a day before they were supposed to come out. So I call again 2 1/2 hour wait on hold finally get someone and their fix is another service call next week! So of course I am pissed. I go through everything with the customer service lady sorry sir we cant do anything blah blah blah...so i try to escalate to a manager and she flat out talks in circles and refuses to transfer me, after another hour of trying the best i could get was a "callback" in 24-48 hours total BS. I worked customer service (on phones) for over 15 years and I can tell you this is absolutely some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. if you havent signed up for Sears Home warranty count your blessings and run the other way. The worst even worse than c**cast/x***ity. I I could rate it a zero star I would 100%. ..View less

In one word: fraud. Filed a repair claim for broken washing machine in mid-May. Repair tech came in mid- June, said new drive shaft needed and would come out immediately when parts arrived. Not true. Had to wait additional 3 weeks. Second tech showed up today - 3 weeks later, said the problem was the motor, and had to order new motor, and cant get repair scheduled until July 22. This is a scam. Tried for 3 hours to get through to someone, never succeeded. Got trapped in endless automated call loop, put on hold for 30 minutes, then call disconnected. Were paying $70 a month for full appliance coverage. DEFINITELY NOT WORTH THE MONEY!! DONT GET SUCKERED LIKE WE DID. Sears doesnt do the work -- they contract out to an outfit in Florida -Ho** S*** of Ame****, Inc. Totally shady. Theres also another shady company connected to them called ***ch Home Services. Dont buy a contract through them either, because theyre all connected. ..View less
