Sears Home Warranty Costs

The Appliance Plan costs $49.99 per month, whereas the Systems Plan costs around $59.99 per month. The Whole Home Plan is a comprehensive plan with a monthly cost of $69.99.

The service fee ranges between $75-$100, depending on the plan you have selected. The plan premium increases if you purchase any additional items.

The average range of coverage offered by these plans stands at $1000-$1500. However, you might get higher coverage of $10,000 for your appliances and systems, subject to dollar payout limitations for each home system or appliance. Therefore, you can enjoy higher coverage limits than the industry standards with a Sears plan.

Sears provides exclusive benefits and discounts during the 30-day waiting period, from the date of purchase. You can take advantage of discounts on appliance repairs if you have purchased the Systems Plan. Those who have purchased the Appliance Plan get discounts on HVAC and water heater repairs.

Sears Home Warranty Claims and Customer Service

Cinch Home Service is responsible for handling the customer portal and service requests for Sears. To file your claim on the date of malfunction, follow these steps:

  • Log in to your account on the website or call the phone number (1-855-256-2467) to place your request. Sears Home Warranty customer service is available 24/7.
  • The company processes service requests within two hours.
  • The company will schedule an appointment with a third-party service technician to diagnose the problem.
  • When the service technician visits your home, you must pay the deductible, as per your contract. The technician then diagnoses and repairs the broken item.

Sears provides emergency services where they prioritize and expedite services. However, the request is prioritized at the discretion of the company.

Sears Home Warranty Exclusions

Sears Home Warranty contracts have a term of 1 year, during which time all the clauses would apply to the buyer and company. The contracts are auto-renewed before the term expires. You can also upgrade your existing plan to a higher coverage plan by paying additional charges.

Any appliances or home systems that are not mentioned in the contract are not eligible for coverage. The plans cover the repair costs of system and appliance breakdowns resulting from normal wear and tear. Any pre-existing conditions should be verified before signing the contract, as known conditions won’t be covered.

In case of damage, you have to file a claim on the day of the malfunction. If the failure recurs within 180 days after the repairs, the service technician will visit again at no extra cost. The reimbursements for repair and replacements are subject to limitations, as per the contract.

The plan is effective after 30 days, from the date of purchase, for one year. However, the company provides a refund, in full, if you cancel the contract within 30 days of signing. After 30 days, a cancellation fee of $25 is charged. If you sell your home, you can transfer the contract to a new homeowner by paying $25.

Sears Home Warranty: Worth It?

Sears Home Warranty plans offer unique benefits to customers. Sears offers special discounts on auto repair services to their home warranty customers. They have a vast network of pre-screened technicians who work actively to resolve the claims filed. The company has over two decades of experience, during which they have built a solid reputation in the market.

On the downside, their premium and service charges are slightly above the industry average. In addition, a few customers have faced issues, such as unexpected costs, repair delays, and communication issues.

I've been with Sears Home Warranty for about 3 years. My claim on my refrigerator's water dispenser was handled quickly and well. This is my 2nd claim on my HVAC. About a year and a half ago, i had an issue with the AC part. Now there is an issue with my furnace. Both of these have been and ARE frustrating, exasperating, and ridiculous. The immediate issue... Someone came out within 48 hours (I think it was 24 hours... relief). He listed the problems to me and said he would turn in his report. I waited two days and checked with the Sears claim company (Cinch). Long story short... they accepted all EXCEPT cleaning the coil. Their reason for denying the coil was lack of maintenance! Years of cleaning filters; do they expect me to somehow clean a coil??? I couldn't reach a person for more than a simple restatement of the claim results. Finally, the claim department (customer service - HAH) told me that I could dispute the findings... by email. With no way to contact anyone regarding that dispute... waiting patiently (and now, not so patiently) for someone to contact me. An email thanking me for MY email is all I've received. After 2 days of unresolved (no contact) dispute, I called Cinch customer service (again) and insisted on speaking to a supervisor. After multiple waits, I was finally told that no supervisor was available, but I could have one call me back. Since that was my ONLY option, I agreed. That was last Thursday. It's Monday afternoon now. No call back. No response about dispute. It's 21 degrees F today. It was 19 degrees F yesterday and last night. My furnace doesn't work. I have no idea how to contact anyone beyond "front line" of customer service at Cinch (and I've tried). This is the 2nd time Sears claim handlers have delayed. When the AC wasn't working, I spent over two weeks in temperatures soaring above 100 degrees F. They assigned a company that wasn't even working for them... and the company of course didn't come out. This happened TWICE. Eventually they approved MY hiring someone to repair the AC. I was patient and trusting last time. This time, I began following up right away... and it's still been over a week of MISERY in the cold with a denied claim. To add insult to injury, the repair company this time told me they would clean the coil at my expense when they did the other repairs... and gave me a price that was 30% more than the coil cleaning price that Sears' claim company denied. I'm not a happy camper, and this is still unresolved. Apparently, "DENY" and then ignore is the theme here. ..View less

Horrible customer service. Also, they just increased their annual premiums and the deductible per incident. I called to cancel - spent twenty minutes talking to a filipino. Finally made him understand I want to cancel, he said he cancelled and I would receive an email confirmation which I have not received. Hope I do, because it won't be nice if I have to call again or get charged.

Horrible - do not buy! They charge you monthly and then when you need service they still charge 125.00 for an appointment. And - after selling it to me, I call for my range hood and they don't service that manufacturer! When I tried to cancel it - they gave me a really hard time.

We originally signed up for the Sears Home Warranty through Cinch Home Services because we made a service call for our washing machine. We thought the timing was good since our appliances were getting old. However, the service was terrible when we tried to use them for the refrigerator and later the dryer. We would have had to wait 2 weeks for someone to come give us an assessment for the refrigerator and still pay $75 for the service call. Then we would have received information about whether to repair the refrigerator or replace it. So, we cancelled the service call and took care of the refrigerator repair with another service provider. Recently we had the same situation with our dryer. This time it was going to be one week before a service person could come out to assess the damage, so again we took care of the dryer ourselves. As a result, we decided it would be better to cancel the contract. It automatically renewed in July 2022. In order to cancel today (January 23), they charged a $99 cancelation fee. Nothing about this home warranty has been pleasant. ..View less

That was on December 23 2022, and now it is January 5 2023 and still no furnace install. All this time I have been without heat outside of heaters that I purchased out of my pocket. Nothing but the run around via Cinch and the number provided by Cinch to contact Sears, goes straight to voicemail. Stay away from both and take your money elsewhere. Trust me, it shouldn't take this amount of time in the dead of winter to replace a furnace. Other companies are replacing a furnace next day but not with Sears. They are delaying everything to prevent from having to replace the item. I have abided by my contract making my on time monthly payments for my Home Warranty through Sears. However, Sears is not abiding by their portion of the contract. Failing to fulfil, follow through, uphold their portion of the contract, which they are required to do, and that is to replace my furnace. Trust me if it is something minor, they will send someone out but anything major, once it has been identified as needing a replacement, Sears disappears, breaching the contract. Stay away, they just want to take your money! ..View less

I began contract with this service the middle of September, it is now Dec first and the freezer they were supposed to come to repair is still broken. I had to take three days off of work, one to diagnose, the second day for the alleged repair which they could not complete because they did not have all the parts. The third day they just did not show up. I tried all day to contact Sears and got the complete run around and dead end transfers to automated machines and after 28 calls and seven hours on the phone I have not been able to get anywhere with resolution. Finally I was able to reschedule so I can take a fourth day off of work so they can send someone else to try to do the repair. I AM COMPLETELY FRUSTRATED WITH THE LACK OF SERVICE!!!!! DO NOT ENTER INTO CONTRACT WITH THEM. The repair tech that came to the house was nice enough but I am not totally convinced he fully knew what he was doing. He also told me the company went from seven repair persons down to two. How can Sears or A** provide such a terrible service and still collect money for essential repairs. DON"T DO IT !!!! ..View less

I was told that I could cancel at any time, without a penalty NOT TRUE. they want to charge me for the month they researched why my range top was not covered and then when I tried to cancel a second time, they want to charge me for the next month 49.99 and $150.00 back from the discount they provided me in December of last year.
