Cinch Home Services is a fast-expanding home warranty company with 40+ years of experience in the business. Formerly known as Cross Country Home Services, they acquired TotalProtect Home Warranty, HMS National, and Fixd Repair and administer the services of Sears Home Warranty. They have also partnered with The Keyes Company, a Floridian real estate venture to provide home warranty services to this segment.

Cinch Home Services is the 2nd largest U.S. provider of home protection plans. They have a large network of 18,000 service pros serving over 1 million service requests each year across 48 states.

Cinch Home Services offers three home protection plans to customers- Appliances Plan, Built-in Systems Plan, and Complete Home Plan.

  • The Appliances Plan covers kitchen equipment such as cooktops, dishwashers, refrigerators, etc. The plan also covers other appliances such as dryers, washers, and trash compactors.
  • The Built-in Systems Plan provides coverage for essential systems at home such as the electric systems, heating systems, cooling systems, central vacuums, etc.
  • The Complete Home Plan is a comprehensive plan that provides coverage to both appliances and systems.
  • Premier Upgrade Package: This package can be added to any home warranty plan to cover some services that Cinch doesn’t generally include. A few such services are electrical and plumbing modifications, code upgrades, reclamation of refrigerant, permits, and condenser pads; there are more such examples.

If you want to take some time to explore your home warranty options but find yourself needing a repair suddenly, Cinch Home Services gives you the option of using their Cinch On Demand service. You get an appointment with a pre-screened local technician, but it’s not available everywhere.

  • The Seller Plan covers all the critical home systems and appliances you’ll want protecting when your home is listed.

Cinch Home Services Claims & Customer Service

Cinch has a straightforward process to schedule service appointments as described below:

  • You can contact their customer care team via the service portal or call (844) 324-5688
  • They will collect your residence and policy details.
  • You can describe the issue you’re facing and schedule your service visit.
  • They will collect part of the trade service fee upfront and adjust it with the deductible later.

They have 24/7 customer service, and the response time is 2-4 business days.

What Should You Know Before Buying Cinch?

The foremost thing to know about home warranty coverage is that companies have a ceiling on the aggregate claims liability, which for Cinch Home Services is $10,000. Each home system or appliance has a coverage cap, and repairs and replacements will be paid up to that amount. For heating systems, the dollar payout limit is $1500, and for ACs, it is $1000. For kitchen appliance repair, CHS accepts a maximum liability amount of $2000 per item. Cinch does cover 2 of these kitchen items. Most items have a coverage cap of $1500-2000.

Another essential thing to know is that not all the parts and components undergoing mechanical failure are liable for coverage. For example, broken or collapsed sewer lines outside the foundation won’t be covered. Nor will broken plumbing lines infiltrated or clogged by roots or foreign objects, door or door track assemblies, cables, springs, etc.

They have fewer exclusions for appliance parts and components than other companies. Cinch also covers mechanical failures due to rust and corrosion and/or sediment.

They detail the circumstances under which they won’t pay, such as accidents, radioactive contamination, lightning strikes, power failure, power surge, fire, casualty, flood, smoke, earthquake, freeze damage, etc., which are more under the purview of homeowners’ insurance.

Is Cinch A Good Home Warranty?

Summing up, Cinch Home Services does get many things right with the flexible pricing options and the lower number of exclusions overall. There are a couple of special provisions like home insurance deductible reimbursement and free water sensor that no one else gives. There are a bunch of special provisions. They also provide 24/7 customer service.

That being said, the pricing can be higher than other home warranty companies. though they do have some nice value-added services to make up for it. We have a couple of alternatives if you feel unsure of Cinch.

How to Cancel Cinch Home Warranty?

If you haven’t made any claims within 30 days of purchase, you can cancel your agreement for a full refund. After 30 days, you will get a 10% penalty credited if there is any delay in getting you the refund. You only get back unearned fees if you have made claims, subject to a $25 admin fee.

Just stay away from this company. It is just money, time & effort wasted down a clogged drain. For one they are very slow to respond with a repair fix and the technicians they send over have no clue as to the issue (probably are trying to learn on the job) leading to wasted time and heartburn. If only I could give them a negative rating, I would, but the least I can give them here is a 1*

We paid over $860 in service fees before we had to file our first claim. On our first service call they sent a technician who did not know the equipment at all. He blamed "maybe the circuit board", "maybe the pump". We asked how much it would be to fix and said we'd be happy to just pay to get it fixed, but he said he had to send a report back to Cinch first and that they'd call us back. The technician said the dishwasher was cheap crap from China and told us we should buy a new unit. Surprise, surprise, Cinch never called or emailed. Instead, they simply marked our claim online as "Completed" with no explanation. We noticed this, so we called them to ask what happened. The phone rep said they would have to file something and get back to us. A couple days later they emailed to say they denied our claim (but still charged us $100 for the guy to come out) because the dishwasher broke due to "calcium buildup" and lack of proper maintenance. We disputed the claim with Cinch, which they sat on for an additional few days, and then emailed again that they would not look into it further. Based on the reviews here and elsewhere, this seems their entire strategy - send incompetent technicians, teach them to blame the customer for lack of maintenance, and then ignore or deny claims/complaints. They even reply to your complaints from an email address which you can't respond to to follow up! We ended up calling GE directly and the technician arrived within 4 hours and had the unit fixed within an hour. It turned out to be a part jammed in the motor, the motor wasn't even broken. It was NOT calcium build up and there was nothing wrong with the unit! He fixed it and all was well - and it was less than $250 vs. the $860 we had paid Cinch thus far. So basically, Cinch stalls as long as possible after denying your claim so you just give up and pay to get it fixed yourself. Complete waste of money. Steer clear. ..View less

I was truly impressed on how fast they set up an appointment for us and for sending a Technician that explained everything he will have to accomplish to get our Refrigerator operational again. I’m sincerely happy we are covered by this warranty.

Excellent service. Great communication on arrival times and service s. Tech was very helpful on hints to keep appliances operating. Super nice people. Recommend warranty service. Called ahead. Han masked covering. Left work areas cleaned up. Explained all documentation.

Used Cinch for the first time for a leaking valve in our shower. Technician acted like he didn't want to do much with it. He did change out the washers for the hot & cold, but later that afternoon it was leaking again, but not as bad. I thought it had stopped, but no, it was still leaking. Used Cinch for the first time for a leaking valve in our shower. Technician acted like he didn't want to do much with it. He did change out the washers for the hot & cold, but later that afternoon it was leaking again, but not as bad. I thought it had stopped, but no, it was still leaking. I called to have someone come back out and I was charged an additional $100 for a problem that was supposedly fixed the day before. With their system, you can't tell anyone what the exact problem is or that the ill trained tech didn't do the job right. It's all animated. To cancel the second service call that I shouldn't have been charged for, I had to press '0' 15 times before I could talk to a representative from India. I was told it would take 10 business days to get my refund & I'm worried that won't happen and the rep was to give me a confirmation number for the refund request and he hung up before giving it to me & I was to get an email which never has come about the refund. I want to cancel, but everyone tells me this is the best warranty. Prove it to me. I'm frustrated that this company lacks professionalism, very difficult to resolve problems or speak to a rep who speaks English clearly. I have had American Home Shield before on a previous home & they were much better & the techs knew what they were doing & the problem fixed. Awful. They just took over hms which had for years. They were wonderful. Always paid within a month if it was out my pocket. This cinch I gave 100 in dec for work. Couldn’t find any one so I cancel order. It’s now mid March. 5 phone calls later I’m still waiting on my 100 which I sent immediately as they ask before they even looked for me. Would never go back. In dec 2020 we called Sears for a leaking dishwasher. A technician came and said it was the heater and ordered one after 2 weeks we got the heater but another technician came and said it was the copper pipe and was not covered. We ended up buying a new dishwasher. The technician signed us up for a warranty service. They don’t know what is covered and not. I am planning to cancel it. Waste of money.

The Air & Heat guy had a tough time figuring out the issue, through parts at the furnace until it was fix, a couple of days but it is fixed and running great. No more money beside my deductible. In Dec 2020 I submitted a request for my built-in dishwasher to be repaired. Three times the appointment was changed. Finally in January 2021 I contacted Cinch and reminded them that my policy guaranteed replacement if the appliance couldn't be fixed. I am still waiting for the repaired machine or the new replacement. Worst warranty service ever.
