R** replied in a condescending and unhelpful manner that they set reimbursements based on their expected costs. When we asked R to** elaborate, he reduced the amount covered by $200. After asking why the reimbursement was reduced and why he was being adversarial, he threatened to further reduce the amount. These folks are a complete scam. They haven't covered anything and I've spend hundreds possibly thousands of dollars for them to deny every claim. I called in for an HVAC repair, didn't realize the unit had been working so I stated I didn't know, then come to find out it was working 2 weeks ago, they went with the original statement and denied my claim.

Even my electrician was floored at them questioning his expertise. They missed several call back times, denied a claim based on "pre existing" all over $700. I'm very disappointed with this company. We're newer clients. This was our first claim with HWI. Last week our water heater stopped heating. HWI had no technicians in our area so they asked me to hire a plumber, pay him and I would be reimbursed. That was fine. I contacted a local plumber who came highly recommended. He came out the next morning and felt since the unit was 15+ years old, it should be replaced instead of trying to replace certain parts. He spoke to HWI customer service and then handed me the phone. The customer service representative explained to me that the amount they were willing to cover was hundreds of dollars less than the actual cost of the repairs (slightly more than half). I questioned the reasoning (politely) and was met with a very curt response containing a brief explanation of how they determine what they're willing to pay, a quoted line from our contract and an offer to transfer me to a different department if I wanted to continue to discuss the issue. I will be finding a new home warranty company. If a representative from HWI has any interest in discussing this review I would encourage you to reach out to me directly. ..View less

So far we’ve had the WORST experience with this company. We purchased our home not even a month ago & our AC has suddenly stopped working. We contacted our warranty company & they sent a technician out. After figuring out the problem we contacted the warranty company again, the service team was nothing but rude! I called back & spoke to the supervisor of the service department, he was also nothing but rude to me & said they wouldn’t cover the AC unit.. which in our plan it stated they covered the issue we’re having. He then tried to say I told the other man I’d spoken to something completely different than what I had said. Which the other man wouldn’t even know what I said since he did nothing but speak over me the whole time. We ended this conversation with no results.. they don’t care about their customers, my home is currently staying at 80 degrees! We’re not even able to stay in our new home because it’s too hot for our infant. My family is having to pay for a new AC out of pocket. Honestly this company is trash, such a scam. Don't walk away from them. RUN!!!!! I had my 27.5 cubic foot, Kenmore elite refrigerator break down. The capacitor and evaporator core leaked, a $1,400 repair. They offered $400. Waste of money. My air conditioner wasn’t cooling well and was leaking Freon. I had the technician come back a week later to “top off” . He said it had leaked more. I called Home warranty and they said Not to top it off and have him do leak testing. I had him come back with the dye and he found three leaks which some could not be repaired. So long story short, I wish I hadn’t wasted my money and I’m waiting to be reimbursed for part of the $225 spent for service charges and nothing was fixed. We used the clean function on our stove, which is a very normal thing to do and even comes with its on setting on the knob. Contrary to functioning mechanical stove cleaning functions, the stove caught on fire. I was trapped in a house with two kids (5 year and 1 year old), our dogs, and our cats with no phone. I was able to neutralize the situation and prevent damage to the actual house. But, the stove was torched. Naturally, we called these morons. The response to this issue? "It is not a mechanical function since it turned on." My kids use that logic...If a normal function of A is unable to perform function X without A becoming inoperable AND function X is a de facto normal function which never permits A to in operable, THEN item A has a mechanical malfunction...you ******** morons. ..View less

3 years of paying into their scam. I make a claim for an inop refrigerator, only 8 years old, and their settlement is maybe 1/3 of what it would cost to replace it with a comparable unit. 1/3!!! Terrible customer service. They were very rude. My dishwasher broke and needed a part that couldn't be sourced quickly if at all. They wanted me to wait an indefinite amount of time or take a miniscule payment that I could use toward a new one. Just glad it was a toilet or something that they were telling me to wait forever on.

Please run as far way from this company as possible. They pick and choose what services they will cover and not cover. *** and **** are not friendly at all and will argue with you, raise their voice, and talk to you like you are stupid.
