I found 2-10 to be very unhelpful. I had a problem with my A/C and the company they sent out to fix it sent a guy who spent 15 minutes at my home. He took over a month to file the claim and once filed, it was denied. Isn’t EVERYTHING in a pre owned home a pre-existing condition? Well, they don’t cover pre-existing issues. long story short, they wouldn’t even refund my deductible after 2 months of trying to get things figured out, occasional lost wages, begging etc. I ended up paying a well reccomended AC company in our town and had everything cleared up within a few days with them.
Now they want me to renew? yeah, sure.
After numerous phone calls and hours of wasted time, I learned that the 2-10 warranty really didn’t cover the problem, which was with the furnace of my new home. Next I will let the homebuilder know of my dissatisfaction with this worthless warranty.
Even if they had covered the expense, the hassle involved in dealing with 2-10 would not make it worthwhile - even if they paid the warrant, and I expect there is little hope of that.
Good luck and I would look elsewhere for a warranty.
I called 2-10 to file a warranty claim on my stove in mid-June of this year. It has been five months and my stove is still broken, despite a dozen calls to both 2-10 and their local repair contractor. The local contractor claims that they are still waiting on 2-10 to authorize the service. Ridiculous! 100% scam.
Eating out for five months has gotten expensive.
Hold time is unbeleivable. When I finally got through, they gave me an answering machine. Then when I asked for reimbursement, they said no, because I didn’t get prior approval. For a heating system breakdown, in the middle of a winter storm, two days before Chrismas….
Yea, right.
We had the absolutely worst experience with them. Our air conditioner broke (it had broken several times before and they had always fixed it). They decided not to pay for the repairs. The repairman actually told us that that 2-10 was pissed off at us!
We wanted to speak with the supervisor who made the final call but we were told that we couldn’t. The temps were in the 110s that week (we live in Arizona). We had an 8 month old baby! I was driving around in the car with the ac running to try to cool him down. We lived like that for 3 days. We finally paid for it ourselves.
We will be filing a suit in small claims court. They are bullies, liars, and crooks. They WILL NOT be there for you. There was no legal reason for them not to pay. They just changed their minds on the spot.
Don’t trust them.
2-10 HBW did a wonderful job for us when our heating system went down.
By and large, our issues were more with the contractors. We had mostly good ones and some bad. We have a newly renovated home. We once had to assert to 2-10 that we needed a furnace repair NOW (winter) and a different contractor than the one they initially recommended. Finally they agreed and we got our furnace fixed.
Fortunately, we haven’t had an incident yet where we were completely disillusioned with 2-10. Our warranty is up for renewal. Though I am shopping around, I haven’t decided on giving up 2-10 yet. Let’s see…
2-10 did a horrible job on our claims, they would not cover, sent out an inadequate technician and called me a ton of times to renew. WTF??
I will NEVER have a home warranty again.
Think about this…They don’t cover any “pre-existing conditions” well, what isn’t “pre-existing” in a pre owned home that you just bought??
So technically, they can refuse to cover anything!!
Hard to tell with this company for us. We have had a washer (or dryer) motor go out that was replaced. . .and it was a Bosch, so very expensive. We have also had another washer problem that turned out to be a fuse. And our soap dispenser flap stopped opening and that was replaced all in the span of 2 years, so no major problems with the company.
The first experience with them was with the washer motor. They contacted contractors and also gave me their phone numbers and suggested that I call them myself to set up the appointment as well. We went through 3 of their contractors before we found a 4th that was still in business and also covered my brand of washer. Once we got that company it was a very nice experience. We frankly got lucky. Found an appliance company that was super nice and also honest. Service call a few days later, diagnosed the problem, 2-10 covered it, replaced motor a week later.
Fuse went out with the washer the next year (had renewed with 2-10). Called 2-10, requested to use the same appliance company and after a bit of struggling with “are you sure they have a contract with us” we got them again. Once you find a good contractor that you know is covered with the warranty company, request them only. 2-10 has always allowed me to request them or others as long as they are in the network.
The Dishwasher was a bit of another story. The contractor said that they could replace the soap dispenser flap. He was there on the same service call as the washer so we didn’t have to pay an additional $65 deductible, so saved some money there. I went on to 2-10’s website to schedule the “work order” for the contractor (file a claim) and could not find dishwasher on the drop down list. I called 2-10 and was informed that the dishwasher was not included.
Normally, a few appliances are not included in the warranty and you have to add an additional coverage, but since I did a straight renewal from the year before where everything was included, I did include the dishwasher by default. I explained that to the customer service person and they were not helpful. They told me that I had not paid the $20 to add the dishwasher. I said, alright, I would pay it now. Then they said that since it was after 30 days from when I renewed it that they could not add it on. I said that clearly this was a paperwork error and that they had to research my last policy with them. They transferred me to the supervisor in which I got a voice mail, left a message, and of course never received a call back.
This went on for days. Finally I did get someone on the phone that I had actually talked to the day before that had tried to help me. They felt bad that I was still going in circles and they kept me on the phone while they researched the problem. He came back on and actually admitted that this was their mistake and that the dishwasher should have been included. It wasn’t but that I could go ahead and add it now for $20 and they would waive the 30 day limit issue.
Then they called me after the contractor submitted the work order for the new soap dispenser work and offered me $250 toward the purchase of a new dishwasher. We considered it but in the end just had the old one fixed.
So, mixed feelings on this one. Customer service can be horrible. Finding the right contractor/appliance person/plumber in your area that is in the network of the Home Warranty Company is a big, huge help.
Will I renew? Probably because the other reviews of the other companies scare me and at least I know this one.
Our furnace failed in the first year of owning the home, they denied the claim saying the unit was not installed properly. This of course is after they ignored our claims for weeks while I had a 16 month old and pregnant wife at home. I wouldn’t do business with this company if you held a gun to my head!
I swear I will NEVER have a home with a 2/10 warranty ever again. If anyone thinks the warranty is actually in the interest of the buyer read the “tolerances” for everything. I have huge problems with my builder, the warranty company is not supportive to me, only to the builder. I have walls that bow out, floors with slopes, concrete with cracks, windows
that have broken out, showers that leak, doors that won’t shut/open correctly, dry wall that is peeling off the walls. My house is less than 2 years old, I have spent 9months with the builder and HBW fighting them to fix the damned house, I have been told cracks in concrete if they are over 3/8″ in 32′ are defects, bows in walls are tolerant 3″in 24′, dips/slopes in floors less than 3/16″ are not considered defects, because my windows open and shut, the same with my doors they meet tolerance. I have requested the paper work for arbitration (such a crock) I sent a certified letter, get the letter back because they moved a year and a half ago and the letter wasn’t forwarded. You would think they might send out notice to the customer, no, not so much. I have been informed to look in the left hand corner of correspondence from them the change would be there, because everyone assume their 2/10 warranty company moves. I sent a fax in requesting the arbitration information, I gave them until 5/15 to get the info to me or I am hiring an attorney and going after them and the builder. Cannot file arbitration if they stall long enough to get you past your 60 days they give you when you file a claim.
My advise, run run like hell before buying a home with a 2/10, and don’t waste time or money renewing. Terrible bunch of crooks, liars and manipulators.
Its taking forever to get our ac unit repaired , They sent a company out of ashboro nc to come look it and I dont think he didnt know what the hell he was doing , Im going to spread the word to everyone that I know to stay away from this compamy
Very disappointed in 2-10 — unreliable recommendations for service providers, no geographic sense, incredibly long wait times.
Please stay away from this company. Like most extended warranty companies, they are quick to take your money but never respond to your problems. Even if it is a very legit problem that happens once in a while, they find every excuse not to authorize or pay for the repair. Please save your money, put the yearly premium in a piggy bank and use it when the time comes. Do not waste your time or money with 2-10 Home Warranty.
A/C went out. Took over two weeks for 2-10 to order the correct part. Customer Service was unusable - every rep told a different story as to what was happening - and almost every story was wrong. The issue could have been fixed quicker with a slightly more costly option - but 2-10 instead chose to drag out the process despite the string of 90+ degree days. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for your home warranty needs.
My house has major foundation cracking, septic has failed after 2 months of being in a brand new house and a punch list of over a 100 warrenty items that were never fixed and will never be fixed because 2-10 leaves it up to the builder. The list goes on and on like traus failure in the attic, not just a few more like the builder wasn’t sure how to install them. my roof sags. The house across the street from me collasped before the people got to move in. the builder rigged it and now they have major issues with there house. Again 2-10 wants nothing to do with it. The home warranty isn’t worth the paper it’s written on.
They were very prompt and professional. No hassles.
rip off dont trust them
The couple we bought our house from purchased the home warrany through 2-10 for my wife and I. We are or were first time home buyers, so we felt a huge relief by knowing they did so. The first problem we had, our dryer would run about 10-15 mins and then it would kick the breaker, we called 2-10 they sent out an electrician, come to find out that the seller of the home we purchased put a broken, taped up circut back into the circuit box, without a hitch the contractor sent out by 2-10 replaced we paid our deductible ($85) and he was on his way. In retrospect i could of replaced it for $25 on my own. Then the second time we used them was for our Heating/Air conditioning pump and air handler. They sent someone out, we paid $85 for them to tell us that it isn’t covered under 2-10 due to lack of maintenance. Well they don’t care who did what, it wasn’t due to lack of maint. on our part, but they wouldn’t cover it, and we were out the trade fee, and had to pay for whole new units out of our pocket. Today 7/30/2008 a plumber came out sent by 2-10 we had a leak coming from our upstairs bathroom down to our laundry room. The plumber comes out to determine that the wax ring needs to be replaced and 2-10 didn’t cover it, we could pay him $160 to fix it, or pay him the $85 and we fix it. We pay him $85 for him to leave our house. 2-10 is not worth the money or the time you will waste. Do not buy for anyone purchasing your home and do not buy for your self…not a good experience no matter how you look at it.
they lie like hell they use inferior service men and do not replace after saying they would they give you the 300 mantra instead of replacing DONT USE THEM THEY WILL LIE AND CHEAT
i have had been in my house for 8 months and came home ac was not cooling…. called and in 2 day the ac unit was fix and was cooling great. The next time i called my master bath shower would not shutoff ( hot water side). The plumber came out tried to fix it but told me that the part could not be gotten and that 2-10 would replace the shower… They did with in 2 days i had the shower working back in order… Everytime i needed to have something fixed 2-10 has been there for me…
Our hot water heater began leaking and eventually the heating element even went out. We reported the claim when it was just leaking. It now is completely defunct. Something in/around the tank has soured and filled out house with a ghastly odor. To my knowledge, it is still covered, but at their timely leisure. Since it is not classified as an emergency (and they refuse to classify it as so until 3 months have gone by), there is no telling how long they would have us wait. I refuse to wait three months for hot water and to rid of the smell, we are just going to do it ourselves. Worthless.
I have used this company two times in one year and have been satisfied with the service. My concern is that now my policy is up for renewal and my rate has increased. I am looking for a cheaper company, with hopefully the same service.
Four claims so far in one year and 2 more I just called in. Everything was handled well and work was done fairly easily. When I called they were always very polite. I can read my policy and knew what was covered and what was not. I had electrical, refrigerator, sump pump and concealed work done. One handyman was not a bright bulb, but I requested not to have him do anymore work. They were fine with it. The only thing I am upset about is that they won’t renew my policy. I guess too many claims in a year.
Would not pay what their SELECTED PLUMBERS recommended for repair. i was unfotunately caught in the middle…water has been turned off and home warranty would do nothing to help outside of customer service man Mike being extremely rude and offering the only solution is for ME to pay more money????? So upset you have to jump through hoops to get things covered. HORRIBLE COMPANY!
No real problems with 2-10 while we owned them. We made several claims and all were covered (mostly on appliances and 1 major one on a busted water pipe). Most contractors were decent and only had problem with one for Washer (not being able to keep it working for more than a few weeks), but was evnetually resolved. Only real complaint is that we werre dropped in the year we filed several claims which seems to be the norm after reading through many of the reviews.
Overall very descent while we were covered.
just got off the phone with them, it’s been 2 weeks that my washer is broken. 2-10 says its been fixed, i have never seen the contractor come back and fix it..again i have 2 wait 1 week.
i will never go with them again!!!!
I have well water supply system, and the pump is broken. We don’t have water in house two weeks now and they are still playing game with us, changing the warrantable item to non-warrantable item with excuse based on builder. I will tell everyone, don’t buy 2-10 year warranty, since they will get nothing.
I have really bad experience with them and builder right now! I hope can give it 0 rate. US business model like this cause American have the live today! The only things customer can do is reveal these cheating behavior under the supervision of public.
First Home first call to get a gas leak fixed. Made 12 calls repeated same info with a HVAC crew waiting for approval to work. They had me fax the inspection report to verify if it was pre-existing ( they do not cover pre-existing) After 3 hours of faaxing and 3 more calls they called back saying that even though the inspection report does not have any info on gas leak they “feel” that this was preexisting and will not be covered.
Total expenses for me in trying to get 2-10 to serve the warranty: 4 Hrs of work time spent on calls + 3 Hrs of a HVAC guy who waited for approval to work + cost of repair 450$.
Roughly around $800.OO
This company is a warranty scam. You use them only if you break something.. otherwise everything is preexisting. I am following this with a complaint to BBB and any forum I can.
Fortunately I have legal coverage in my employer benefit elections and I plan to sue them.
We have used this service a couple of times within a year and are not happy. The contractors sent were poor to say the least. Stay away from this service. Please.
Long story short…They denied fixing our furnace -they sent the Select Mechanical- another HORRIBLE company who replaced parts in the furnace- when our claim was for the AC not working properly- now somehow our furnace is not working now they are denying the claim- even after I sent them my full inspection report showing that the furnace was in good working order! I am in real estate and will do my best to let the entire real estate commmunity in Indiana know how fraudulent they are! DO NOT use this company! you will regret it! I could go on and on- you get the point.
I have 21 investment properties that I have covered with 2-10 plus my own home and my brother’s. Overall, I have to say they are dependable, always courteous and respond in a timely manner. We have used them extensively especially with our investment properties. No claim has ever been denied.
We had one house where the A/C unit went out on a Friday in the midst of an extreme heat spell. I explained to the CSR that I couldn’t have my tenant staying in the house without A/C indefinitely. She upgraded me to an emergency and had someone out there that afternoon. In the end they replaced the bulk of the system which would have cost us $1,900 but instead we only had to pay the $65 service call.
When my own hot water heater went out in January (and flooded the hardwood floors) they couldn’t find a contractor to come out on Saturday. I found my own plumber , got authorization and had it fixed within hours. I submitted my claim and was reimbursed within a few weeks with no hassle.
I have found recently that they are renegotiating their payment schedule with their contractors and some that we’ve used in the past will no longer work with 2-10. However, we’ve always found their contractors to be professional, licensed and complete the work in a satisfactory manner so I feel confident in using others. Also, you have the option to use an out of network contractor provided they are licensed and will call for pre-authorization.
I did have a problem getting reimbursed when I had to replace my pool booster pump. It was denied but when I asked to review the matter with a supervisor he offered to pay half of the cost which was better than nothing at that point.
Most of our warranties are up for renewal and the costs are increasing as is to be expected. I decided to look at some other companies but frankly outside of cost I have no complaints. And based on the reviews of the other companies I’ve decided 2-10 beats the others by a mile.
One last comment. When we first started using warranties for our investment properties we went with NHP (National Home Warranty). STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!! They are a scam and a fraud. My partner reported them to the Atty General’s Office in NY. Every single claim we made was denied but not before we wasted days and in some cases weeks trying to get an answer. Everything was either pre-existing or insufficient records.
Hope this was helpful.
The only way we ever got HBW to pay anything on a claim for construction defects was because we had a way to avoid their arbitration process. Despite a federal law that said we didn’t have to arbitrate because we had a govt backed mortgage, HBW kept trying to get us to arbitrate our dispute with the builder, with an arbitration company they mandated. If you have FHA or VA financing your lawyer needs to make use of this federal law, Title 24 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Section 203.204(g). It says “judicial resolution” has to be an option along with arbitration. I believe it also says that for FHA and VA buyers arbitration has to be at no cost to the homeowner so if you get sucked into it and it’s too late to get out it at least should not cost you extra to get hosed.
Their arbitration company CAS was owned by a disbarred lawyer. We found out about many problems with their arbitration.
HBW was offering only part of our damages and acceptance of their offer would’ve required we give up claims against the builder for the rest of our damages. This would’ve ruined us financially as the damages were severe, with many serious defects in a brand new house.
The way most if not all these new home warranty policies work is that they protect the builder. They do little for the homeowner unless you have time to learn quite a bit about law, consumer protection, etc. This became a huge time consuming operation for us but we eventually prevailed and settled our case. By avoiding their arbitration process we were ABLE to pursue it. In arbitration we’d have probably lost or had to accept the low ball offer.
I learned a lot about warranty companies from some consumer protection groups, and my own research. First, most are not insurance and therefore are not regulated by the state insurance departments. Warranty companies are actually “Risk Retention Groups,” not insurance. Even their so-called insurance backing, National Home “Insurance” Company, is an RRG.
The contract to buy a warranty policy is between a builder and the warranty company. The homeowner rarely knows what terms these two companies have bound them to until it’s too late, for example the arbitration clause in the warranty that you don’t see or don’t realize what a trap it is, until after you’ve bought the house.
I have since seen court cases that said HBW’s arbitration clause is “unconscionable” and unenforceable, but unfortunately many other court cases said that thought it was unfair it was still enforceable. You can find many of these cases discussed online by Googling this company or its chosen arbitration company, Construction Arbitration Services.
No surprise at all to see so many negative ratings here for HBW and I suspect most similar companies have similar comments/ratings. To top it off, during our dispute, HBW still sent us letters asking us to renew their “coverage!” What a joke. Don’t think you have much protection with a home warranty. They are mostly a marketing tool to sell houses, and their coverage for the homeowner is more of a false sense of security.
This is a sham operation. If the homeowner accepts this warranty they are agreeing to “minimal construction standards” per the NAHB Resididual Guidelines. This means, according to the booklet, that you are agreeing to substandard standards that most all builders can achieve. In otherwords, you are agreeing to toss away your hard earned money and accept shoddy construction! So what if your roof leaks, your plumbing is not connected to the sewer or your hot water is plumbed to your toilet, your foundation is caving in and your windows are installed upside down! This is what you agree to with the 2-10 HBW. BEWARE. Be very AWARE.
And remember, you are giving up your 7th Ammendment rights to court jurisdiction for an industry owned arbitration company that rules in favor of the builder over 85 percent of the time! Just say NO if this warranty is presented.
I bought a home that was 3 years old and came with a home buyers warrenty. I felt confident that everything would be covered in this almost new home. After 3 months of living here we had a hot water heater problem. I was told that the hot water was NOT covered even though my “policy” which is not at all specific says covered items “hot water heater”. Later in the year my air conditioner stopped blowing cold air. I called 2-10 and was told it would be 10 days before their contractor could service me, however I would have to pay the deductable up front. After waiting the 10 days, the air conditioning contractor said that this problem (a capacitor) was probably not going to be covered. It was not and after nearly a month with no air in the middle of summer, I paid 125.00 to get it fixed from a local contractor. Warrenty is all “FLUFF” made to look nice in a package for resale of a home, or a new home sale. But is totally worthless. Save yourself the headache now and NEVER buy this warrenty!
This company lies, conveniently looses records and can’t get thier stories straight. Six months after moving in, our septic pump went out on a Sunday afternoon. We called customer service and they said that they would get someone right out. After waiting a couple of hours no one showed up so we had to call customer service again. We were told by “Mike” that since they had no contractors in our area, and because this was an emergency, we could find our own contractor and that they would pay 100% of the bill since they had no one available and they even gave us a PO number for the contractor to bill against.
We hired a local contractor and the repairs were done, however, when he submitted the bill which came out to over $1200 (the part alone was $700, and we confirmed this by getting prices ourselves) 2-10 refused to pay anything over $500 because that’s what they said they ONLY authorized for, leaving us with the balance to pay.
We contacted 2-10 and the first person said that they found no note stating that “Mike” approved anything over $500. We escalated this and then the next person said that they did see the notes and that they would take care of it.
In October of last year (2007) their sales department called us and wanted to know if we were planning on renewing our policy. I explained to her how upset we were over 2-10 not paying the contractor like they said they would. She said that she would look into the matter and call us back and when she did, she said that she could get an additional $500 paid to the contractor but could not get the full amount. We decided that this was better than nothing and we would pay the balance due. Like an idiot, we renewed the insurance.
Bottom line, they NEVER paid the contractor. We are up for renewal again and once again we get a call from sales, the contact was Marcia, I explain again to Marcia what happend and how they STILL HAVE NOT PAID THE CONTRACTOR! Marcia stated that she would check into it and get back to me. After numerous calls back to her, Marcia explains to me that the claim was closed, another round of lies! I asked for it to be escalated again. Then we were told that the contractor only billed for $500. We asked for a copy of the invoice and first they said that they only take verbal notification of the bill over the phone. My husband said that he didn’t believe it, because any good reputable company would want to see an itemized invoice, then a miracle happend, they found the invoice! My husband informed the customer service person that if this bill is not taken care of, that we would be turning this matter over to the State Insurance Commissioners Office and to the State Attorney Generals Office for investigation. They made no comment.
Bottom line, we will be making formal complaints to the State, and DO NOT PURCHASE insurance from 2-10. They will find everyway to lie to you and not pay the repair bills.
When contractor comes to see the problem they attentive to you , but the company usually only takes deductible in addition to the premium paid ahead. No repair ever! Nothing is covered for a first year at least.. and everything is determined as “preexisting condition”, so you pay from you own pocket. I quote their denial for the claim, such as “preexisting condition is not covered by the warranty”. I strongly don’t recommend this company. It’s better to have no warranty, than to have them! Waste of money!
This warranty came with our home when we purchased it 8 months ago. It has been great. We have called 3 times - once for plumbing and twice for heating/ac. Service was with 24 hours and we only paid the $65 fee each time. The Ac repair guy said the cost of the warranty was less than the cost of the first repair that was done on the ac unit. We are difinitely going to renew.
The 2-10 warranty site will not contact me following three complaints about their contractor. No work has been done although the contractor was quick to cash the check for the co-pay. From what I’ve seen so far, this is a worthless and costly warranty. I recommend that anyone avoid this company.
had the worst experience ever. unprofessional and poor poor contact service. I was out of pocket so much money. Brief summary, AC broke down and it took them 4 times to come out and 2 different AC company to complete a simple order. Many lies and promises to show on time, almost always late or no calls or follow up… even by B-10 rep. No thanks, if you want to keep your sanity and keep your tennant don’t bother with this terrible company!!!!
From recent experience they have said what they would do and have followed up superbly….
After dealing with 2-10 Home Warranty and reading the other reviews I wish I had never been duped into getting this home warranty. Too bad for me that I did not do my homework ahead of time.
I called within a couple days of moving into my home for a problem with my heat pump and/or thermostat. Anything ’service’ related is not covered. Fortunately, it was a minor adjustment and I only had to pay $95. Oh yeah, you are responsible for the first $95 anytime they send someone to your home.
A couple weeks later while setting up my outside Christmas lights I discovered an outside outlet would not work. I called Hometrust and they said it wasn’t covered.
A couple weeks later I called and stated I didn’t think my water softener was functioning properly. The company they sent I had never heard of and I have lived in the area for 40 years. The contractor and Home Trust decided that it was a pre-existing condition when I moved into the home and they would not cover that either. The contractor would get $95 for the call, then he wanted to clean and test it on another day (another $150), and then come out and test it again (another $95). Forget it, I’ll just call Sears and get a new one.
What a scam! What’s the point of a Home Warranty that doesn’t cover anything??? I’ll never buy a home warranty again!
They would not allow the repairman fix what he said was needed, instead ordering him to put a bandaid on it. The part failed less than a month later causing much greater damage, which they found a way to not cover. I would NEVER use this company again.
This company did not renew our policy but did not tell us about it. We always paid the deductibles and annual bill. The customer service people told me that they chose not to renew out policy and because of this they did not mail us a renewal policy. So, how were we to know this? Meanwhile, coverage lapsed one week and during this time out heater broke in the middle of December. I called them and they said sorry, you’re no longer covered.
Every time we call we get a different story. They can’t get our address straight. We can not get local contractors to come to our home because they don’t service the area where our home is listed, 100 miles away. When we call, the 210 operator is making notes and will take care of it.
The only reason I can give 2-10 Warranty a “2″ for overall is my repairs were eventually made. Very difficult dealing with these folks. Looking for reasons not to pay for covered problems. Dumped me like a hot potato after making a couple of claims during one year of coverage. Did not have the fortitude to notify me of their non-renewal intent.
Would recommend to head the other direction, away from these folks, fast. Look elsewhere!
I am really disappointed with this company. Honestly, I am very angry. We have had this warranty for 4 years and the same problem with heating/AC unit (heat pump system). The unit is 14 years old and they refused to replace it for a long time until the last contractor foguht to replace it. The only thing is that they replaced the inside unit but told the contractor the outside unit can just be rebuilt. Now that was back in March 2008 and its now December and the outside unit stopped working again. The outside unit supposed to be all new parts . The contractor came out and it took him 5 minutes to say the unit needs to be replaced and we had to pay him the $85 fee. I’m steaming mad because we are now being told by 2-10 that we have to pay more charges because they do not cover certain fees. The outside unit did not last an entire year.As much money we have paid to them over the last 4 years we could have purchased a whole new system ourselves. I do not recommend this company at all! My husband and I have constantly had confrotations with the representatives. Everytime we ask for a supervisor we have to wait on a call back that we never recieve. There were times were the same pieces that go bad were being replaced over and over again by different contractors. We tried to explain to them this information but they act like they did not have the information in the system. I always replied ” well I have a copy of the receipt if you need me to fax it:. Of course they were not trying to hear it. We are still trying to fight these charges they are trying to make us pay to replace the unit outside but after this we are not renewing with them ever again!
This company appears to be a total scam. I had a microwave door latch that needed adjustment but the microwave was functional. After 2 months, I now have a microwave that is non functional and when plugged in causes sparks and trips my circuit breaker. When the contractor was working on my microwave he was constantly tripping the circuit breaker and finding new parts to replace which of course required further visits (it needed a new latch for Christs sake). After his last visit the circuit breaker needed to be replaced do to their incompetence. Now to add insult to injury, they want to send an electrical contractor over to fix the non broken circuit because the microwave contractor is claiming that the microwave is fixed. Only the door will not close 50% of the time (it pops back open) and he was never able to eveen test it as he destroyed my circuit breaker during his servicing or lack thereof (telling me to get an electrician to fix it). And of course they will want the fee for the electrical contractor to say that the circuit is fine. Which it is (it has been replaced of course at my expense). I knew from what the mw contractors office was saying after I spoke with them exactly where they were going. Just so I could assure 2-10 that the circuit was fine, I even plugged in another microwave into the circuit as well as a space heater (both running) with no problems AND TOLD THEM SO. Anyway, they chose to ignore that and opted to attempt to continue their game. They obviously could care less about their customers and that I am a Realtor makes no difference. This company AND their contractors apparently lack competence and worse, THEY LACK INTEGRITY.
STAY AWAY, STAY FAR AWAY…..
I have had my 2-10 warranty since I purchased my home 2 and 1/2 years ago. The first episode was with my furnace when the firebox went out and we had to shut it down in the middle of the winter in order to keep from killing the whole family. They sent a tech out and he said it was fixed but it wasnt which was obvious by the wailing of the C02 detector. We shut it down and they came out again. This time they had the unit replaced! Wow! Was my wife excited! When I got home from out of town I walked down the hallway in the house and lo and behold warm air was pouring out the return on the furnace! Could it be true! Yes they put the furnace in upside down! Well after a couple of more days of going round and round with the contractor and 2-10 they turned it right side up and went on their way. Well this Nov. our washer broke down and 2-10 has reared their ugly head again! Wife said we needed to extend the warrany? Boy am I a sucker. We are still sitting here without a washing machine. I have no idea how in the world the contractors they use stay in business. The guy who tried to fix it the first time couldn’t no matter how hard he tried. So they gave us the # of another and he wouldn’t come out and fix it! My advice to anybody who will listen? DON’T BUY THE WARRANTY FROM 2-10 WHEN OFFERED!
We have had 2-10 for the last 4 years since we bought the house. We have called them 4-5 times including 1 major (hot water heater) repair. It was replaced new the same day. We have had no issues. Maybe the KC area has good workers, the only complaint we have is the cost & deductable goes up more each year.
I have had them for one year and do not plan to renew. We have an older home and needed several repairs - a boiler, a dishwasher (3 times - but really the first one was never fixed), and a plumbing issue.
2-10 basically makes you wait forever - the return time is crazy. They rarely pre-approve in a timely fashion. The contractors tend to be bad and not show up to the calss. We have made numerous complaints and in the end they will rarely approve anything and will find any and all means to not approve you. I would not recommend them.
I was going to use 2-10 for our home warranty, after getting everything setup, I thought this was a good company. Two months after my first payment should have been taken out, I called them to see what the problem was. The reply I got was “Ahhh we”re no longer doing buisness in Oklahoma” I never got a phone call, email, or letter stating the change in company coverage. I would think if they decide that they are not going to cover someone and had this all setup to do so, they would have at least made an effort to contact me and tell so I could set it up with someone else.
If I could give a rating lower than a 1 I would. This company is an absolute joke and favors the builders so much. They package the product as this wonderful warranty that is there for the homeowner. The actual opposite is true. It aids the builder by forcing the homeowner to follow their conflict resolution process. Even after winning in arbitration 2-10 still favored the builder. Stay away from this company if you can!!!!!!!!!!!!!
