| Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights

They just don’t care about the customer or the quality of the contractors they use. ambiguous contract terms with hidden gotcha’s, such as we will replace unit…but you have to pay disposal fee and other installation fees that should be included in replacing an item. If it breaks again after 30 days, you are out another $50.00 service call. Years ago, this was a good service, but now they just want to collect the premium and give you the run around when you make a claim.
I placed a claim for issues with my pool equipment. They had Mike from Golden West Pool and Spa repair come out to my home. First thing I had to give him $55. then we walked out to the pool he turned on the pumps look at evrything in less than two minutes. didnt open anything. just looked at it told me I had broken gears in the magnasweep, Service light on Heater and Pump has something wrong because of the noise its making. he said all would be covered under my warranty. Next thing I now 2-10 is dening my claims said its dirty filters and nothing needs to be done but cleaning. Now I have to Hire someone else for a second oppinion and submitt for approval.
I saw several complaints about the 2-10 and I just have to say that having this service was a life saver!
We bought our home and 14 months later, the well pump went out. With just one phone message, I had a contractor calling me back within the hour! He apologized for not being able to make it on the same day and asked if we could last until the next day. I told him we could, but then he showed up at 6pm that night with his assistant. On a Friday night, no less! He said he just couldn’t leave me and the kids without clean water and flushing toilets!
When he took the well pump apart, he found a break in the housing unlike anything he had seen in 27 years. He was very sorry that he couldn’t fix it until the next day. He came back Saturday afternoon, after having driven to a store over an hour away to get the new pump. He spent several hours fixing the pump and replacing all the lines, which would not have worked with the new pump. After checking everything out, he left for the day.
20 minutes later, nothing worked! He came directly back and discovered that when my son turned off the switch next to the water heater, labeled light switch, it was in reality the electric switch for the pump! He was very kind in explaining the switches to us and even wrote on the face plate, so we would not turn it off again by accident.
Technically, he could have charged us for making him come back, but he just said that accidents happen and this was how we learned from them. He was very nice and the well pump has been working without problems ever since!
While I am not happy about the rising costs of the 2-10 policy, I am happy when they send out notices that help me (like the HVAC unit info) and when they contact me to remind me when it is time to renew so I will not miss out. I couldn’t sleep if I did not have the extra coverage. It is a life saver!!
This company failed to actually fulfill claim for repair of door bell failed under provison of the 210 warranty purchased at time of closing on home in Kentucky area. At least 3 attempts to get the customer service reps for the company to actually get a claimed sub contractor scheduled to complete the work , only resulted in more notes taken on the problem and excuses. I was in mind to consider a renewal purchase at end of previous policy but have clearly resolved not to do so. It appears that the claimed warranty by the company may be at best marginal to actually implement and wonder if many more legitimate warranty claims go un completed.
I have had 2-10 for the past 3 years. My price has gone up every year from $400 the first year to $600 this year. I am now dropping my coverage. I can’t figure out why they think I should pay a 50% increase when there are alot of other companies out there. Can’t really say I had too many problems with their service, so really disappointed to see them do this.
Well… after another service trip, my issues with my heating/cooling are still present. At this point, I am just totally through with 2-10 and all of its contractors. I can do bad all by myself. I definitely won’t be renewing my warranty (or lack of) with 2-10. I’ll deal with another warranty company once my warranty expires. Does anyone have any suggestions for the GA area?
I’ve used this company for at least 2 years. In the beginning, it took about 30-45 minutes of listening to music on hold before someone would answer their phone. They have improved their answering lag time somewhat (hence, at 3 instead of a 2). The service portion; however, is yet lacking. It took about 3 or weeks to get our a/c fixed, about 2 weeks to get our water heater fixed, and about 2 weeks to repair our refrigerator. We are a family of five. Wait times like that are ridiculous. We’ve taken our business elsewhere.
We simply cannot justify paying any amount of money to continue with 2-10 Home Warranty any longer.
We have used 2-10 for the following services: a leaking toilet, a clogged kitchen sink, and a broken dishwasher. NONE of these items were EVER fixed through the use of our home warranty despite paying the service fees for the multiple visits.
#1) When the toilet was leaking, it took several days for a plumber to come out to look at it. When the plumber came out they informed us that they did not have the proper items/tools to fix the leak, as it was coming from the tank, and they were under the impression that the leak was coming from elsewhere (how they got the wrong impression here is beyond me, as I told 2-10 exactly where the leak was coming from). They collected the $55 service fee from us and said that they would contact us the next day to send someone out with the right equipment. After a week without any contact, we contacted 2-10 again about the problem. The company contacted us with a new date for a new plumber to come out again. Several days later, the new plumber came out and said that there was a leak coming from a crack in our tank (which obviously we were aware of, as that is why we called!) and that the leak was not covered by our home warranty and there was nothing they could do to fix it. During all this time, we went through several bath towels and a moldy smelling bathroom due to the ongoing steady drip from the tank. I finally went to Home Depot and talked to an employee there who directed me to marine epoxy that fixed the leak for $5 in a matter of minutes. That was several months ago and the leak has not returned.
#2) Our kitchen sink was clogged and we contacted 2-10, this time asking for a different company to come out, as we were dissatisfied with the toilet situation. The new company came out and the plumber said that he could not fix our clog, after about three hours of trying and making a mess all over the place that he never cleaned up. He complained the whole time about his company and used foul language to describe his boss and wore ratty clothes because he said he “refused to wear their stupid uniforms.” He said that maybe he could fix the clog “if his company wasn’t so cheap that they could afford a decent pipe snake.” After giving up on the clog, he said that he just “suddenly realized” that our pipes under the sink were not up to code and that was probably the problem. Our house is a new home that passed inspection for everything before we bought it. Because this plumber said our pipes were not up to code, 2-10 said that they would not send out another plumber to look at the problem. Again, the $55 was collected, and nothing was fixed and the plumber left a mess all over our hardwood floors. I contacted a rooter company that cost me only $80 ($25 more than I just paid) and the plumber responded the same day and fixed the clog in less than 30 minutes. This plumber made very little mess at all and cleaned up after himself where water was left. I asked him to look at our pipes, because the previous plumber said that they were not to code. He said that our pipes were installed the only way that he’s ever seen pipes under a sink and that they were to code and there was nothing wrong with them. This was a journeyman plumber.
#3) The heating element on our dishwasher went out. When 2-10 had the plumber contact us, they said it would be about a week out. I complained about the previous plumber they sent regarding the sink and they told me “if if makes you feel any better, that guy was fired.” It doesn’t really make me feel any better that he lied to my home warranty company and because of that I had to pay the $55 for nothing, plus an additional $80 to have someone competent fix my drain. The dishwasher guy finally came out and collected the $55 and said that a part needed to be ordered that would take a while to come in. Over a full month later, the heating element came in and was installed. After he took apart the dishwasher, and put it back together, the dial now sticks. I contacted the company again and they said that because it’s a new problem, I have to submit a new claim with 2-10 first. This problem didn’t exist before they took apart the dishwasher to begin with! Called 2-10 again. This fact didn’t matter to 2-10. I also told them that the previous time they used this company, the plumber said our pipes weren’t to code (which I later learned was not true) and he spent 3 hours making a mess when a privately hired rooter company fixed the problem in 30 minutes. 2-10 didn’t seem to care. ANOTHER $55 later, the guy came out to try and fix it. He couldn’t figure out why it was sticking and decided to order another part. He ended coming out about three more times to try and fix this one problem, with anywhere between 2 weeks and 5 weeks between visits, ordering new parts each time. From the first day that he came out to look at the dishwasher until the last time, the process took OVER THREE MONTHS. Three months without a working dishwasher is unacceptable! AND it never was fixed. We ended up buying a whole new machine, simply because we were tired of dealing with the headaches.
I cannot recommend 2-10 home warranty to anyone and have been very displeased with their service and choice of local companies used. Both companies used had completely incompetent workers and delayed response and 2-10 did not seem to care.
I have a house that was built in 2007. Everything in it was brand new when purchased. I have been sparring with this company since April 2009 with issues with my heating and air unit. First of all… the customer service is horrible 90% of the time. You have to try to remain calm when speaking to the reps who transfer you back and forth causing ridiculous hold times and mounting your frustrations. Secondly, most of the companies that are contractors have very very poor ratings. Thirdly, there should be a lot more clarification upfront of what is covered and what is not covered. I honestly could not recommend this company to anyone due to lack of customer support, lack of customer care, very poorly rated service technicians, and the fact that this company has no idea of what it is like to have to deal with them.
I bought an older house and it came with a 2-10 warranty. I have had issues with plumbing. I will say that the warranty company dispatched some good plumbers to deal with those items. Our refrigerator also had a serious issue and when the tech came over, he immediately realized the problem was serious, and the fridge was a fire hazard! He may have saved my wife, our house and everything we owned. THe fridge had to be immediately replaced, and we decided to go out and pick our own. 2-10 had a reimbursement check sent to us within a few days. Our premiums have steadily gone up over the last three years, and I am seriously having to consider going to another company. But I have no complaints with the service and efficiency that 2-10 has provided.
THIS COMPANY IS A JOKE IF ANYONE KNOWS ANOTHER HOME WARRANTY PLEASE EMAIL ME. BRANDONMAC9090@YAHOO.COM. I CHOSE THIS COMANY WHEN I MOVED IN MY HOUSE 7 YEARS AGO AND I JUST DON’T WANT TO BE WITHOUT AN ADDITIONALL WARRANTY BUT I HAVE ALWAYS GOT THE MOST EXPENSIVE PACKAGE/PLAN AND IT REALLY DOESN’T COVER MUCH. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS NOT FRIENDLY AND THEY CALL BACK BASICALLY WHEN IT IS GOOD FOR THEM, ON THEIR TIME, NOT A WEEKEND!!!!!! WELL I HAD ONE WEEKEND VISIT THE THE DIRTY BLONDE HEADED GUY COMPLAINED THE WHOLE TIME, HE WAS NICE BUT UNHAPPY. HE SAID THE COMPANY MAKES ALL THE MONEY AND HE JUST GETS SENT ALL OVER THE CREATION.
THANK YOU
Poor follow through on service call needs. Had for two years and was not impressed with service.
I have made three claims over the three years I have had the warranty. One was fixed by the serviceman when he came to evaluate my HVAC problem and the trip charge covered that. The second was a garage door opener which was replaced, no problem. The third was a hot water tank. In the last case be aware that there are a lot of items that are not covered (permits, bimetal couplings, and expansion tanks). The repair cost me $400 but it was substantially cheaper than if I had to pay for the whole thing. All I can say is read the contract, so far they are meeting that.
TO ALL POTENTIAL AC CONTRACTORS!!!
if you are a contractor for this company you will not get paid!!!! work for old home republic instead
In regards to my 2-10 Home Warranty. So lets see, I’ve had a policy with them for about 5 years. In this time, they have fixed a toilet, replaced a Water Heater, fixed My HVAC 4 times and ultimately replaced my HVAC with an entirely new unit. The HVAC was a dinosaur and frankly was only worth the scrap metal it became. Needless to say, even with the gradual yearly rate hikes, I still find that it has been in my best interest to have a Home Warranty of some sort and 2-10 has been absolutely professional in their handling of all occurances. YES I would reccomend them, expecially those purchasing their first home. They have made the unpleasant unexpected events in owning a home, seemless as can be. Good Job to the foks at 2-10 home Warranty and their contracted staff who were dispatched to my home to correct the issues at hand.
My parents, both over 70 years old and taking care of my handicapped brother, have a home warranty policy with this company and have been sitting in the cold with snow on the ground outside waiting for their heat to be fixed for over a week.
I am in the middle of a claim right now. I have had the 2-10 warranty for a year, with no claims. We have had a couple of things go wrong, and put them off. When our 2nd washer (we have two laundry rooms) started having problems, we decided we better make a claim. I started the claim in line. I entered the first wash machine, then the refrigerator ice-machine, then the second washer. The system kicked out the second washer, because I already had a washer listed. So I called. The gal was friendly and helpful. She tried to override the system and enter the second washer but couldn’t. Had some difficulty. Put me on hold. When she returned she informed me that none of the appliances were covered because they did not come with the house (we brought them from our previous home). Hmmm. I would not have bought the warranty, especially the extra coverage for the washer and dryer is I knew this. She told me to read the warranty. She emailed me a copyy. My husband and I read it. Found nothing that states that our equipment would not be covered. I did find that only one washer and dryer set would be covered. Fine. But what about the other one? My husband calls. Tells them we can’t find anywhere that our used equipment should not be covered. The supervisor will call us back. Amazingly, they could not find anywhere that it isn’t covered either. Wow! So, they have dispatched someone for the one washer. Aparently the ice machine is not covered on refrigerators. Have not got a call from the serviceman yet. Will see how that goes. Not sure if I will renew my policy next month. I don’t have money to throw away.
The few times i had to use them, there was no problem – the local representative calls up fairly quick and schedules a visit. There are 2 reasons for my low rating
- Cost, its gone up by $50 each year
- Customer service personnel on the phone are very curt
I have just completed a heater repair for my unit which is over 12 yr. I had to call several time to find out when a service tech would be out, you do not talk to a live person unless it is an emergency and then it is up to them to decide if it is. It took over 2 weeks for them to replace a part, the repair man had the part on hand but told me the company would not pay for it that they wanted to use their own order part, that took a week. During this time I had to use elect emergency heat and that was a cost, but the warranty company could care less. When you attempt to speak with a supervisor that will never happen nor can you get the prez. The repair person said they are going to drop from their service list because of problems like this. I would tell everyone not to go with this company you will lose money over time. Their slogan sould be: “No Time, No Service No Worry for Us”
After the homewarranty people sent a contractor to look at our washer, it started to become noisy. The warranty did not cover the noise even if it was caused by their contractor. We had at least 3 more visits from the same contractor who was never able to fix or diagnose the issue properly. After half a year of disagreements they finally sent Sears and it just took the technician a few seconds to say that it is the transmission. Bottomline the warranty finally allowed a replacement of the unit.
We have used 2-10 several times for our 16 yr old furnace as well as a plumbing issue and in the past they have been great. This winter, our furnace has gone down twice in 1 week. The 1st time, the squirrel cage (?) was shot and had to be replaced. An emergency call took longer than 24 hrs for someone to arrive, then several more hours for the tech to get the part and fix it. Worked for almost a week, then last night furnace decided it wasn’t going to ignite. Called 2-10 at 5:30, was told to wait 4 hrs to hear back from them or a contractor. Didn’t hear back, called them and they acted like we were just being impatient. Today at 7 am we called again and were told it was “still in the emergency queue”. At 9:30 i called them AGAIN and was told our warranty expired. No, it didn’t, i renewed it in August and had the card in front of me reading off the dates to the tech on the phone. But since our claim was filed under the expired warranty number when it shouldn’t have been, they transferred me to Customer Care. This is where I heard “please your name number and a message. If you cannot wait 4-6 hours for us to return your call, please call back. You cannot leave a message as this mailbox is full” WHAT!? So i call them back again and ask for Customer Care’s direct number which of course they cannot give me, but they transfer me again and it happens to connect with someone. I find it amazing that the lady who answered sounded like someone on a meditation/relaxation CD. Must have been a special request for her after I yelled at the poor girl who originally answered my 2nd call.
Warning!!!! Stay away from this company. They will rip you off year after year and only get the run around with rude customer service reps and supervisors. Then try to find the phone number to the regional office or some corporate office….. non existant. Do yourself a favor and find another company.
I purchased my home on Dec 09, 2009, and my HVAC units stop working on Jan 12, 2010. I call 2-10 and immediately found out that the trade fee quoted at the time I purchased my warranty had somehow increased. The price difference was only $5.00 but it made me wonder if other information that 2-10 provided was also incorrect. I would soon find out. A customer service representative told me that someone would research the issue and get back with me. I then told her that my real reason for placing the call was my HVAC system had stopped working. A contracted was sent out within the next 2 days. I was informed today that my claim was denied and that my warranty would not cover my issue. A 2-10 representative stated that based on the information provided by the contractor they had to deny my claim. The representative was very rude and abrasive. She (Pricilla) acted as if I was wasting her time and even told me that I should have known this claim would have been denied, in her words “because it was a common sense”. I was so outraged I demanded to speak with her supervisor. The supervisor was not much better, she stated that the contractor found that my unit had excess rusting and in his professional opinion it was a preexisting condition. I offered to send 2-10 a copy of my inspection report from when I purchased my home in Dec 2009. The supervisor stated that she would be happy to review the information and take it into consideration. After reading other posted comments I am not hopeful that this company will be of any assistance. I am currently online researching other warranty companies. Please do not buy anything from this company. DO YOUR RESEARCH on the front end or you will PAY LATER. I don’t know if 2-10 can monitor this site or not, but before I could complete my posting I was just contacted by a 2-10 representative informing me that they had reversed their original decision and my claim will be handled. This does not change my opinion of the company or their customer service. They have burned me and I am still activily looking for a company who appreciates their customers and provides better overall service.
We have a problem with out garage door not opening. Without seeing the problem or sending a technician the customer service rep explained that “springs” are not covered under warranty. I don’t know what is wrong with my door just that it won’t open. Will someone help me out or not???????
What is covered?? That’s my question?
15. GARAGE DOOR OPENER
INCLUDED: All components and parts, except:
EXCLUDED: Garage doors – Hinges – Springs – Sensors – Chains – Travelers – Tracks – Rollers – Remote receiving and/or transmitting devices
Though it took time to get resolved, I am taking into account that my issue occurred over the holiday season. The dishwasher seemed to not be draining so we called in the claim the first business day later (12/28/09). Because the necessary parts had to be ordred, the repairs were just completed today. For a $75.00 deductable, I’m satisfied!
