Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights
2-10 Home Warranty also administers other warranty programs including HomeTrust home warranty and Freedom home warranty.

I purchased my Home warranty on 6/26/2010 on 8/26/2010 my garage door opener opened but kept running then smoking, so i took off the cover a pulled to poer wire off. called 2-10 they dispatched a contractor “I use that term lightly” a guy shows up on Bermuda Shorts and Flip flops, No tools not even a ladder. walks up to me a says I need 100.00 per your contract in order to start the repair process.I wrote him a check for the 100.00 and he walked into my garage and looked up at the opener saud yep looks broken whipped out his phone took a picture and said that he would submit a repair claim and call me in a couple of hours to schedule to replacement time. well NO call in 2 hours so I called him NO Answer?? so i called 2-10 they informned me that the contractor sent them a report that stated the Homeowner had messed with the limit switches and caused the unit to be damaged. First off i dont even know what a limit switch is and they only thing I did was disconnect the power wires to stop it from humming, burning and smoking!!! I was on the phone with 2-*10 for hours!!! trying to explain that i did not do anything to it. the were rude and kept saying that there contractors word is all they need to deny the claim… I called the contractor back and told him waht 2-10 said he denied ever telling them that i messed with it and stated they were an insurance company and were just looking to deny the claim because my policy was so new???? I called 2-10 back again,, again was on the phone for over an hour thay refused to let me speak to a supervisor and told me that claim will still be denied… BUT if i wanted to get my own contractor to diagnose the issue and send them a report and they would look it over and see. See what? I ask.. The rep said well we very rarely reverse a desicion but hey maybe this time who knows… I have never in my life felt so ripped off… 400.00 for the warranty 100.00 for the service call and I have to replace the opener myself for 225.00 plus labor… 2-10 is a fraud the contractor they sent to me is a fraud and a lier !!!! this company should be put out of business the contractor should be jailed… Contractor was Regional Real Estate Managment & Service in Clarkston MI owner name James No last name he wouldnt tell me. and 2-10 rep said they didnt have a last name for him on file?????? I cannot even see if the guy has a license… poor poor poor customer service.
This warranty company sucks. They are weaseling their way out of paying for my AC unit even though I had TWO separate AC inspections done, which my realator assured me would cover any “loopholes” the warranty company has. This didn’t work. I found out that before I bought the house, some former owner repaired the inside coil with the wrong brand and the brand that is needed isn’t even made anymore. My first claim with 2-10 was on June 2, 2010. Today is Aug 27, 2010 and the warranty company just told me that it would not be covered due to section E-11 “we are not liable for repairs related to adequacy or capacity; manufacturer’s recall; improper design; improper previous repair; or problems caused by alterations or modifications.” Even though I do not have any documentation stating this informatio, 2-10 was more than happy to send it to my realator. Needless to say, I’m screwed and a new unit will cost me ~$7,000. This company is a scam to get out of paying anything to anyone -don’t waste your time.
Oh my! I thought it was just me that had such bad luck w/ 210. I feel for all of you waiting on your AC!!! Live in AL, did the no air for 2 months in July!!! Not fun! But, we finally got our air replaced. You have to call them EVERYDAY!!! This company has the most worst cust. service!! Like most of you stated, they don’t care! I would rate them a zero. Been with them since 2004. I am FINALLY letting them go! Up for renewal in Sept, I’m on the search for a good Home Warranty co. Do any exist, is my question???
I had a warranty with 2-10 for the last 3 years- after we bought our house we continued to renew the contract. Each summer we had trouble with our AC and 2-10 would only do the bare minimum to fix the problem. Every winter we had heating issues and again 2-10 would only do the very necessary requirements to make the system work. Last winter our water heater stopped working. I had to practically beg 2-10 to send someone out to fix it. I was pregnant at the time and have a toddler with the weather 30 degrees outside. The first repairman came out and told my husband he should have pushed the reset button (my husband is not a moron and had already tried that). The repairman did not wait around to see what happened and the hot water heater was not fixed. When I called 2-10 back they said I would have to pay an additional service fee or have the same incompetent repairman come back out. After speaking to several supervisors 2-10 finally agreed to send out a new repairman who immeidately found that BOTH of our hot water coils were not working. Over the 3 years that we had the 2-10 warranty our yearly premium went up each year. This summer 2-10 decided to not renew our warranty- I guess because we had 4 service calls this year we wore out our welcome. I would NOT recommend this company to anyone!
I wish I had read up on this company before I called. My real estate agent “threw in” a home warranty with this company as her thanks for buying a house with her!
My home inspector “missed” the fact that only 1 burner out of 4 worked on the range, and that the stove was 100 degrees off. When I caled, I was told a $75 trade fee was for each “problem.” The range is ONE UNIT!!! Was a rip. They set me up for a repair visit and said I would hear from someone in 24 hrs to make an appt. A week later I called to ask why no one came. Tech finally called and said he’d be there next day after 7 PM!!! Still waiting for him a week later. Went out and bought a stove at sears!! They always show up and fix it!!!!!!
I have paid $483 for 3 years and I have an AC problem and I was told it might be lightning so it isnt covered. 1st claim not covered.
2-10 is a joke I have been reading comments about how bad this company is from 2007 .from 2007 to 2010 out of 100% of reviews.
2-10 recieved 98% percent bad reviews and you have 1% each year commenting about how great they are ( I am sure it’s from within 2-10 company) If you file more than 3 claims within 1 year 2-10 will drop you so fast it will make your head spin….. HOW IS THIS COMPANY STILL IN BUSINESS!!!!!!
This company in my opionion is a fraud. My air conditioner went out Saturday am 8/14/10 I called 2-10 at 9:am 2-10 dispatch my call to a air conditioning contractor that is only open Monday thru Friday . I called 2-10 2nd time 11;30am I asked can you please get someone out here to service my air conditioner I have 6 month old baby in the house and its HOT cust service said they would upgrade to emergency 911 I said what does that means cust service would call all 12 air conditioner contractors in my area that work on the week-end I did not get not one phone call from contractor to let me know they were on their way so I called back at 4:00 pm the cust service rep said its been a long we cannot find anyone so you can get the phone book and find a contract just have the contractor call before he does any work to get a authorization 2-10 said ok do the work when contractor finished he call 2-10 back with total this was at 6 pm saturday 2-10 said they were not going to pay I payed out of my pocket $277.00 2-10 said they will reimburs me $68.00 I canceled my contract with them today and ask that they send my money back for my renewal. I have decided to open up a 2nd saving acct and name it Home Repair and take the $434.00 I give them every year and apply towards my home repair acct
When I purchased my home 10 yrs. ago the 2-10 warranty was in place by the seller. I have been quite pleased with it and have renewed it every year. The first year I had to have an air conditioner completely replaced (this was after the company replaced two parts that had failed.) Also within the first yr. had several pipes replaced because of leakage and a drain snaked. The service companies always called back within 24 hours to schedule a time and worked around my schedule. Throughout the yrs. there seemed to be always something – a drain clogged here, leak in the roof (the roof I had put on when I moved in), more leaks in sections of pipes. No problem, just call 2-10 warranty company. For the plumbing problems, the same company came out and most often the same plumber, so I know him quite well. In 2009, I had to have one of my furnaces replaced. No problem. Only had to pay for the upgrades of the electrical and a few other things but they paid for the furnace, labor, removal of old furnace. A 3,000 to 5,000 dollar job only cost me an additional 500 – 600, but it was well worth it. The only complaint was when my refrigerator gave out. It was a Maytag bought approx. 2003. My extended warranty was up. Compressor and motherboard went out in spring of 2010 so I went through 2-10. It took them three weeks to get the piece in and complete the work. That is the only major upset I have had in the ten years. And just in the two last weeks, had a problem with my alarm system and had to have a repair on my Neptune washing machine. High dollar pieces had to be replaced on the washing machine and what did it cost me ——- just my deductible —- 45. Will I renew my warranty with this company????????????????
YOU BETCHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Poor Customer service. No one took ownership of the issue. Placed blame on contractor and supplier. Promises and no action. Contractor blamed 2-10 Home Warranty. 2-10 Home Warranty Company blamed the contractor. I hope no ever has to go through this. 100 degrees in Texas and 2-10 Home Warranty did not deliver on their promise as stated in the Warranty.
Washer flooded on Memorial Day 2010. Called 2-10 to repair. Waited a couple weeks for appointment only to find out the day of that the contractor didn’t service my brand of washer. Called 2-10 back and they set me up with another contractor. Found out when making the appointment that they also did not service my brand of machine. Finally found a contractor that could service the unit and had appointment for June 28th. They ordered parts and returned on July 13th. Needed yet another part and returned on July 21st. Washer then leaked again. I asked 2-10 for a replacement and they said they needed a diagnosis of replacement and I should have asked for it before they fixed it. Well how was I to know that I should have just asked for a replacement when it flooded? I followed their protocol and they issued a workorder. Not once did the claims department inform me that I could have just requested a replacement. That is not written on my contract. So, they sent the contractor back out on August 10th and he tightened a screw and that supposedly fixed the problem. Well, it is now August 14th and it is still leaking. I called 2-10 again today and requested a new washer, only to receive the same old song and dance. I explained the situation to 3 different people, told them that I didn’t want someone else to come out, was tired of missing time for work, have a newborn baby, and need a new washer. Again they just repeated that they need to send someone out. At this point, I feel there is adequate justification for authorizing a new machine without sending the contractor out yet again. I feel that my family has dealt with this issue long enough. We have been more than patient throughout the entire process of trying to fix the machine. I have diligently paid my premiums since 2005 and have the extra coverage for high end appliances. The cost of the warranty has risen significantly throughout the years and I have not complained about the cost. However, I do feel that at a premium of $653 for my most recent renewal I should get better service and there should be no issue replacing the machine. 2-10, or at least the representative I spoke to today, would rather lose me as a client than to replace my machine. I will be writing a letter requesting a refund of my $653 and choosing another service provider. As a former Realtor, it angers me that I have recommended this company to clients and this is how they treat their long time customers.
We have had problem with this company’s service for two months and I don’t believe they care. The company’s customer care service is terrible. You never get to speak to the management and the service representatives continuously get the entire complaint message wrong. It’s a “Try your luck Chuck…adventure.”

Every time you call them, expect to wait a minimum of 30 minutes on hold, no matter what the reason or department. They never make it out in less than a week, and try to get out of every little repair. I have been with them for 4 years, and I have had nothing but problems with that company. BEWARE!
I moved into my home in June of 2009. Shortly there after the AC unit started making severe noise when shutting down. I called 2-10 and a service rep came out quickly. He told me that the compressor was going but that the unit was working fine and 2-10 would not repair because of noise. A month later the AC unit got louder and called 2-10, they sent another tech out and told me the same thing and that it would probably not last much longer and ordered a repair part. 2 weeks later I called 2-10 and asked the status of the repair and they told me they denied the repair because the unit was still functioning. Now 2 months after the warranty has expired and in the midst of a heat wave the AC unit is now broke. I also had two other claims for plumbing issues and was never contacted by their plumbers. I ended up repairing it myself. What a waste of money and customer service was awful.
This the poorest and bad service and response I have ever received in my life. Please just dont think about 2-10.
AC has not been fixed yet for 15 days and weather is 100 degree (average 95 outside, you can imagine inside?)
If I could rate a “0″ I would. Bought a home last Sept. with a 2-10 warranty. In October the above-range microwave stopped heating. Two repair contractors, three visits and probably 10 phone calls later, they paid what they decided it would cost to fix it. The contractor told me it would cost more to fix it than replace it, but 2-10 wouldn’t replace it, or to install a new one if I purchased it myself. Now I have been without a dishwasher for almost 4 months. Two repair companies haven’t been able to fix it but they want to send another one out to diagnose it again. They just want to wear you down until you give up. It takes weeks to get a service company to come out and then 2-10 won’t back up their agreements. Don’t use them.
Their service providers are worthless, obviously have not been vetted to see if they are knowledgeable, experienced, etc in their trade. Some of the contact persons at the provider’s offices can hardly speak english. When they finlly show up to do the work, they play games with tenants/occupants & fix nothing. 2/10’s fees are a rip off for the no service they provide & the state should investigate their business practices, etc. I’m ready to demand a refund & find someone else who is truly a provider of a service, not a rip-off like Madoff! How can they be licensed?
Well I have had 2 claims filed, 2 deductables paid $50 each, and zero items fixed.
#1 Had a leaking toliet, plumber came said it was a cracked in the porcelin and the warrenty wouldn’t cover that, but he would put in a new one for $300. I said no, still had to pay the $50 deducatable and had another plumber (who I knew) come out and replace the bee’s wax seal, which was the real cause of the leak, for $10.
#2 Had a leak by the chimney, called the home warrenty, they sent out a contractor who told me it wasn’t the flashing it was the mortar around the chimney that was leaking and the warrnety didn’t cover that, so I paid him $50 to come out and do nothing. Then I called a roofer who came out, looked it over said it was definitly the flashing, then put in new flashing, and amazingly the leak was fixed.
So my a/c is having issues and there is no way I am calling 2-10 again, I’ll just save my $50 and put it towards a useful contractor who I am going to have to call anyway to fix it. I need to be in the home warrenty buisness, these guys have a tremendous profit margin…100%.
They love taking your money every month but when it comes to needing service on a appliance all of a sudden your appliance doesn’t qualify. Our refrigerator’s water dispenser stopped working so I called to get service. They informed me that I wasn’t covered for that as my refrigerator with the water dispenser cost extra yearly. I said “excuse me, what are you talking about, refrigerators are on my list”. My refrigerator was considered high end and cost extra yearly. As far as I know most all refrigerators have water dispensers nowadays. Give me a break! I’ve canceled them.
My biggest gripe with them is that in 2008-2009 a one year warranty cost 225.00 on a new home…….renewal in 2009-2010 was 349.00…..now 2010-2011 it’s 434.00
I’ll be looking for a new company next year
This company cares nothing about it’s customers
Noticed a leak in kitchen ceiling. The contractor they sent was very nice, however, when he attempted to do the repair, found it was something else. He found this out by drilling a hole in the kitchen ceiling.
Drilled a new hole in the bathroom wall to make the correct repair. At the advise of the contractor, we called 2-10 and advised them of the 2 holes. They were going to charge another service call for someone to come out and repair one hole. 2-10 was then advised, we would fix ourselves so they sent $75 to fix ONE hole not both. I called back to advise there was 2 holes caused by the contractor but they would only supply funds to fix the hole that fixed the plumbing problem. Now our policy is up for renewal and they want to charge almost $200 more for a change in my contract I don’t need or want and the CSR was rude and advised me it was NOT negotiable. I would NOT recommend this company to anyone nor will I renew my contract being they apparently can change your contract at will without notification.
3 years with 2-10. no ac in north carolina in july – going on 6 weeks now. 2-10 could care less. this company is a joke with horrible customer service. stay away from 2-10!!!
I have had this company for 3 years since I moved in. They have fixed every problem I have had and Have been Nice about it. I even have contractors that I request who work for them because I can trust them. Had a few problems with contractors not calling or showing up but 2-10 always got someone else in a short time. Word of advice, get the supreme protection,NOT the basic and you will have a much better time getting OKs for work to be done. They are not cheap, but I am happy and I will renew.
