| Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights
2-10 Home Warranty also administers other warranty programs including HomeTrust home warranty and Freedom home warranty.

I have had the service for 4 years now. I originally received the warranty when I purchased my house of 12 years. During the first year, I had the water heater replaced. I was a little worried about the service because of claims of home warranties not fulfilling claims. The claim went through, and I received a new water heater. The claim process was like this. I submitted the claim it took to the next business day for the work order to get to the service center. They usually call the day they receive the claim. Once the service person recognized I need a water heater, he took pictures of the unit and wrote up reasons why I need a water heater. The next business day I had the unit installed. So, it took three business days to get the claim processed. After this claim, I have purchased the warranty each year after. I usually submit an average of 2-3 claims a year. I have yet to have one claim turned down. The only thing I have run into that the company would not replace was an Ice maker on a refrigerator (which I did not submit a claim for after talking with Customer Service) and I was requested to pay an environment fee ($50) for a heater exchange (Btw… The HVAC service said would cost $2600 to replace the heater exchange, and I paid $50 Trade fee/$50 Environment fee). The warranty has additional options you can purchase to cover an ice maker and other small items. But in the case of the ice maker, I purchased the ice maker myself and installed it into my refrigerator for less than $100. Over the years, I have seen the customer service get better. The website has become very easy to submit a claim, and I have noticed the claims are processed through the website faster than a couple of years ago. I normally submit a claim now during business hours, and I get a call from the service generally the next morning or the same day. I have had claims submitted in the morning and a service tech at the house the same day. I cannot pick the service company, but I have had service companies provide bad service, and I call customer service with the complaint. Usually, they will cancel the work order, and call another service provider.
So I have filed 3 claims with this company. My house is 125 years old and thought I should have a home warranty since it was supposed to cover many things. The main problem I have with this company is very simple Just getting a contractor assigned and actually show up has been horrendous. Last claim I filed just today was for my furnace has stopped working. It’s 31 oustide and I was put on an emergency queue list. I was told to call back in 4 hours if nobody contacted me. When I called back the service rep said “Sorry can’t find anyone in your area”. So why do I pay money to this company just to be told I could find someone myself and pay for it then submit a claim to “Maybe” get rembursed. Last time I filed a claim for an air conditioning issue i was told flat out by the contractor they assigned my claim to that they refuse to come out because they were in litigation with 2-10 for not getting paid for their work. This company like most insurance companies are quick to cash your checks for premiums paid but when it comes time to file a claim they are just plain worthless.
This is the worst company I have ever worked with in my life. I had standing water in my living room. I called 2-10. They sent out this hack plumber who jackhammered my living room floor to see if that was where the leak was. It was not. The guy randomly started cutting holes in the drywall around the bathrooms, broke my master tub drain fitting, charged me over a grand, and left. I have since had 2 plumbers out who told me that this guy scammed me, and the work he did was unnecessary and destructive. 2-10 disavows any wrongdoing (they have no standard for their subcontractors, only that they are licensed and insured).I have filed a complaint with the BBB on the plumber. I am taking both the plumber and 2-10 to small claims court because of the damage they did to my property. I have repeatedly asked for their registered agent in my area and their customer dis-service reps did not seem to understand what that is. The office of the president did not even provide me with this information when I asked. I had to go to the secretary of state.
It amazes me that companies like this can stay in business. Stay far away from this racket.
Just a word of caution, If you find positive reviews in the midst of many negative reviews the positive may have been put in by employees and or company owners. I would recommend you verify any home warranty company with the BBB and the State Attorney Generals office
When they do cover repairs, things go ok. If there is any question forget it. Very poor first level service and second tier is unresponsive and wants to call you back. Guess what, they never do. I have been waiting for two months for a response and still continue to call. There has to be a better company out there. When good, good. When bad, very very bad.
I called 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty to find out how to file a Structural Defect of the roof framing system which was not pitched correctly and pools water – and when water sits on the roof, it creates problems (in time) with water seepage. The rep first wanted to deny coverage – stating it was a “workmanship” issue and not a structural issue. When I told her that the booklet clearly states that “Roof Framing Systems” is in the Structural Defect list – she said, “It has to make the home unsafe, unsanitary or otherwise unlivable.” When I asked if getting rained upon was considered “livable” she said “YES” !!! This is like a MAFIA!
I am a service member deployed to Afghanistan since last year (and am still here) and am still annoyed at 2-10′s refusal to even consider working with us on our approx $250.00 claim for our over the stove microwave which broke earlier this year (and my wife had fixed not knowing at the time that it was covered).
In this extenuating circumstance, 2-10 was totally inflexible in either investigating the issue or assisting my family considering 1) I am deployed to Afghanistan, and 2) my wife was completely honest in seeking mitigation and admitted that she didn’t know, offered to provide documentation, etc.
Given that we pay our bill every month on time and in advance and have made exactly 1 claim in the past 3 years (for a broken washer [which btw was also a pain to deal with-in that case it took 3 weeks and my calling all the time to get reimbursed]), the corporate rigidity and lack of consideration on the very reasonable issue listed above has totally turned me off to 2-10 and as of today I categorically would NOT EVER recommend them to anyone.
I am sure I speak for the group here when I say that it is extremely frustrating to pay a monthly fee for a home warranty that hardly ever gets used, and then when something actually does happen, the warranty company assumes foul play is at hand (because we didn’t call them first) and goes cold on the customer.
Naturally, now that it’s renewal time 2-10 is actively calling and emailing me to renew their “very valuable service.” Had 2-10 assisted my wife as actively and diligently as it is seeking our business now I would be more than happy to renew our policy hands down.
As promised them in my last email to their “customer service” rep, I am looking for a better option than the mediocre at best service from 2-10 (to date I have yet to receive a response). Exactly 1 single claim in 3 years, all bills paid on time, and this is the service we get? Keep in mind, this all happened months ago and I only became annoyed again when I saw how aggressively and diligently 2-10 has been pursuing us to continue our warranty. All we requested was reimbursement of the maintenance, not even the service fee (which was $99.00.)
I am sure that more people have been treated this poorly by 2-10 as well and I encourage them to write to this forum and spread the truth!
Thank you for listening and Happy New Year!
I’ve only tried to file one claim with them. It is the worst experience that I have ever had dealing with customer service. They were rude to me on the phone and hung up on me, they told me I was not able to speak with representatives and that I had to submit emails only, they said they never heard back from the contractor so they just couldn’t do anything about it, and I waited over twenty days for this problem to be fixed. Then they decided it wasn’t covered. They are unprofessional, slow, and rude.
I have had 2-10 Home Warranty for 12 years now and I have never had a problem with service calls or anything, I have had a hot water heater replaced, a a.c. unit and garbage disposal replaced and they paid everything. I am sorry to hear the about the complaints, I thought everybody loved them as much as I did. Satisfied Customer
The exhaust fan motor on my furnace went out , I called the 800 number , within 30 seconds I was talking to someone , 2 days later the furnace guy showed up and within 1 hour my furnace was fixed also the assholes who worked on the furnace before put a exhaust vent on that was too short and used tape to take up the gap , they fixed that as well.
the absolute WORST experience ever – and the telemarketers for this company will not stop calling to have me renew their ‘fine product’. last winter our hvac unit stopped working – during an ice/snow storm. the first contractor they sent wouldn’t come back. and even with pleas to help us fix our unit due to the fact that we have a child with respitory issues who needed heat, the company ignored our request and required us to wait for the part to be shipped from their company. FOR OVER 10 DAYS during sub-30 degree temperatures. One of the issues for our unit was freon leakage. We were assured that the leakage was fixed. But now we have learned, the was never fixed as promised. we only got the service equivalent of a bandaid. guess what, the unit still has a leakage. this year we simply get the pleasure of FINALLY fixing it. i will never, never, ever accept a warranty from this group. it is better to simply pay to have the issue fixed correctly and not deal with this company.
I had two claims, which I needed assistance from 2-10 Warranty Company. Neither time did 2-10 Warranty stand behind its promise. 1- When my house was first built, I had leaking windows and french doors. The builder dragged his feet and never provided corrective measures. I enlisted the assistance of 2-10 Warranty Company to make good on its promise to step in and complete the work it the builder/contractor fails to do so. All that 2-10 Warranty Company di was to remind me that there are time limits on their coverage. Instead, I spent over $3000 to have another contractor correct these defects.
2- After a recent storm, it was discovered that a ceiling joist in my house was broken. Photos and a contractor’s estimate were sent to 2-10 Warranty Company as a claim for the 10 year Structural part of my warranty. The company made me an offer which was 15% of my contractors estimate to make this repair. I declined and asked that a structural engineer come out to inspect the damage. This occured, and after the engineer’s visit, 2-10 Warranty Company made a determination that the broken joist did not create an unsafe environment and that a structural defect has not been met. 2-10 Warranty Company refused to pay any cost to repair this broken joist. Once again, I had to bear costs to repair a defect, and once again, 2-10 Warranty Company did not stand by its coverage.

We have filed two warranty claims during this first year of coverage. Both times the claims were forwarded to the sub contractor promptly, and the sub called us within hours. The service techs came out the next day & repairs were made. We won’t be renewing our policy with 2-10, but only because of their higher prices….I hope that doesn’t come back to bite me – you get what you pay for?

I purchased an extension after my builder’s warranty ended. The initial call was great of course (because they were trying to make the $500+ sell). I went with them on good faith and 2 months in my washer went out (thank god I purchased the warranty) so I called 2-10 warranty and to my suprise my washer & dryer was not covered. I just paid $500+ and everything in my house is covered for a year; stove, fridge, hvac, water heater, plumbing, electrical, garage door openers, etc.. everything but my washer & dryer. The rep informed me that $500+ for the year doesn’t cover the washer & dryer, that’s an additional $80 OPTION per year, which was not spelled out clearly over the phone. Sad thing is If I were properly informed I would have paid the additional $80 for the coverage. I’m currently in the process of canceling my coverage and the customer service reps are horrible (I asked for a warm transfer and they asked “what’s that?”). But I totally blame myself for this crap I’m going through, I should have done my homework/research prior to ordering a home warranty off the PHONE. Thanks for the undo stress for the moment 2-10 but never again.
I got service for 4 times. I lost fee every trip. One plumbing problem was first guy couldn’t fix it and they said it is made like this. I had to order other guy to fix it. Others are elect, hvac, refrigerator. Even everything was out of order but they didn’t cover for that part with every reason. So I have to waste fee each trip. And nothing covered by warranty. when I ask for what 2-10 cover for it, one technician said everyone said like that. I know now why customer service are fretful, because that is their job to argue with customer. Do not close with this company.
I have been with this company for years. The few times I have called has been a debacle. This last time had to do with my tankless water heater. The unit failed to work after 3 years. They continuously sent plumbers here until they found one saying it was not installed correctly. Then after 3 wks without hot water, informed us that they would not stand behind the warranty on this. I would not recommend this company to anyone!
We have had 2-10 for 6 years now and have had about 3 claims. Before this time they have always been timely. Our air conditioner went out after we bought the house. they came out twice before it was decided they would replace the unit. No problem. All three times were complete within a week. The 2nd time we called was our hot water heater- that was decided and replaced the same day the tech came out. However, our washing machine is another story. We made the claim on 11/3/11. Tech came out the next day and said it was the transmission and 5 days for the part. 7 days later they came out with the trans. and it still didn’t work so it must be the motor (right?)5 days later they came out with the motor… not the problem, still not working. Tech stated could be the ground and not worth fixing. However the warranty company doesn’t want to replace, i guess. Looks like another motor has been ordered and expected for Dec 3 but according to the warranty company this is the 1st motor and maybe they will replace. Regardless, it has been 4 weeks, no washer and lots of frustration. ‘they understand’ they say as they order my part that will take another 5 or so days. then if the tech comes out and still can’t fix, they will have to order me a ‘like’ washer! which will be another 5 days then i have to wait for the tech. everyone has different stories. i have already spent $100 for the tech to come out and over $150 at the laundry mat and looking at another 2-4 weeks. Previous times were timely (which is why I gave the 2′s) but really researching other warranty companies. Based on this time only they would have gotten 0′s. Any suggestions?
I called several times for a repair on my dishwasher, I paid the $50 fee and they dumped at least $100 into each time. After 4 times and $720 later (between my deductibles and the amount they dumped in) they agreed to give my $300 towards a new one, whcih cost another $150. So a $400 dishwasher ended up costing us $350 and them over $700…makes no sense and the customer service guy said the same thing.
The second clain was on my roof vents. The said the flashing wasn’t covered but a leak was…duh if the flashing is causing the leak why wouldn’t it be covered. Eventually after several calls they agreed to send someone out and even waived the $50 deductible. The contractor came out and did a decent job, but then the warranty company demanded I pay the $50. After several phone calls and giving them the persons name that waived the fee, they gave up on getting their $50.
I had good service and results from 2004-2009, but now they are tyring to pass the buck onto the consumer and take your $600 yearly fee.
I made a claim for my garage door opener online on a Sunday night at 10:00. I called the contractor at 8:00 on Monday morning since we were heading out of town for the holiday. He called me back at 9:00 and my opener was repaired by noon. Unbelieveably fast and friendly service. This was my first claim and I couldn’t be more satisfied. Great value and no hassle with finding a repairman.
Run away from this company – their entire set up is a scam. Repair people do not knwo wha they are doing, when they do show up it is to collect their $50 up front fee, disqualify your claim, and leave. No follow thru and no quality.
We have had three claims recently. The first was a plumbing leak casued by the pipe connection to the house shearing off – they claim that was outside the home and not covered (be aware that virtually every new home in Georgia is likely to have this problem and it will not be covered). The repair guy was pretty disshelved and did not even want to look at the pipe before he declared he knew what had happened and it was not covered. $50 gone and no coverage, quoted high price to repair. No coverage yet two other plumbers who came said it was caused by the pipe connection in the wall (which is covered) and quoted lower prices and guaranteed their work.
Several weeks later we called about refrigerator not freezing and dishwasher not working (electrical storm). Repair guy came from over 59 miles away (took all day, we are in Atlanta and there are hundreds available closer), arrived ln a person car, no parts, and did not really seem to know what he was doing (was nice). Said had to order parts so gave him model numbers and photos of parts. Weeks later part for freezer arrived, he said he would come when part for dishwasher arrived – that was another week. Frig repaired but the part for the dishwasher was not even close to the right part and did not appear to even be a new part or, at best, a poor after market substitute.
Made him take better photograhs and the part with him so could get correct one. Got a call from company asking me for the part number. Read them al numbers, sent photos and told then to call Their repair guy who had the part itself. Called him and asked him to call it in. Ten days later I call again, they tell me they were waiting for me to give them the MODEL number- which I gave them and him weeks before. Gave it to them again and asked for immediate service, reminded them that all parts available her in Atlanta locally and they deferred to purchasing department (closed on weekend)
Its been a month now with no dishwasher – some warranty
The first claim was handled efficiently, AC unit not working. The second claim was for a dishwasher problem. The first thing out of the service persons said was it may be a maintenance item not a warranty issue. It was eventually repaired. Third and current claim is a roof leak due to deterioration of a flashing. I use the same company that 2-10 sends out to do the warranty work. They claim this should be a covered item. Plus we pay an extra fee for the extra warranty on the roof. Our current coverage is $610. We will be looking for a different warranty company at renewal.
We purchased our house in July and this warranty came with it. Now that we have moved in we have found out that there is a leak in the plumbing. Our house is on a slab so in order to repair the plumbing they say they have to bust up our ceramic tile and the concrete foundation. They will only pay up to $1000 for this and they will not pay anything toward repairing the foundation that will be broken or the floor tiles. They are leaving us with a huge hole in the floor and expect us to repair it on our own. The plumber has to come back to do the work and since he left the hot water heater has started leaking as well. I called them and they said that even though he has not completed any of the work on the leak and will be back I still have to pay another trade fee to have the valve fixed. We are just going to fix it ourself! On top of this, their customer service people are rude, and none of them even know what they are doing. I have talked to atleast 5 people and none of them even tell you the same thing. Do NOT get this warranty company!
