| Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights
2-10 Home Warranty also administers other warranty programs including HomeTrust home warranty and Freedom home warranty.

We just purchased our home and one month later the AC went out we contacted our home warrenty and they did not replace it because they are saying that it was pre-exsiting problem. In which we had an inspection before buying the house and the AC was fine. There service was not great
This company stinks! I have sent in a claim to 2-10 two months ago and have yet to see or hear from the Contractor. The first call to 2-10 is horrible. They make me call the contractor… isn’t that what they are supposed to do? didn’t i pay them for a warranty so i wouldn’t have to do these kind of things. the contractor call nets me a “i never received a work order from 2-10″. my second call to 2-10 at least gets them to resend the work order. that was 1.5 months ago… still no word from contractor. Today’s call to 2-10 resulted in “have you called the contractor?” which i responded that it wasn’t my job to do that, it was theirs. They put me on hold to call the contractor, a minute later the phone clicks back over and i hear a cell phone voice mail asking me to leave a message… that’s it… no “I’m sorry we couldn’t get in touch with them”, just click… leave a message. AVOID 2-10 LIKE THE PLAGUE!
I too am having a big issue with 2-10! I bought my house 1 month ago and the AC was working fine. Last week (7 days now!!) the unit went out. 2-10 was contacted and they sent someone out 2 days later. They denied my claim trying to say the problem was pre0existing!!!!!! It worked for the month that I have been there so how is this pre-existing? So I get a 2nd opinion which of course confirms what I was saying. Now 2-10 wants to send someone else out. They are just dragging their feet but I am not going away.
Today, after one week of trying to get assistance from 2-10 to repair a malfunction motor and starting capacitor in our 3 year old air conditioner, we cancelled our home warranty plan with 2-10. Over $500 invested, and the first request for assistance found my wife making multiple calls, a lot of run around, and we finally went to a local repair company and the unit was repaired in 1 hour at a cost of $100. Some of the run arounds were 1. No air conditioning service companies in your area, closest is 2 hours away, and cannot make it for a couple of days, will call you back when we contact them. Never did. 2. We cannot work with any contractor who is not on our plan, by one asssitance, the next stated they could but they needed to contact 2-10. We asked a couple of in town contractor and they refused, as they had previous ecperiences where their reimbursement with 2-10 wer 10% of the actual cost.
Run around after run around. This company should not be in business, but it is stupid people like me, who do not read these postings that keep them afloat.
This company has terrible customer service! The only polite phone call I ever had with this company was when I was called and asked to renewe my insurance. Yeah right!
The first problem we had was with our water heater. I began leaking water on a Saturday morning. There was no shut-off valve on the actual tank, so we had to cut off ALL water in our home. The leak was so bad that the water went into our finished basement. When we called 2-10 we were told this was not an urgent issue and they would not contact a contractor until Monday. After being persistent they made it “emergency” on Sunday evening. Needless to say the service company did not come until Monday. We were given a quote and told we had to pay $600 in addition to the $75 service call fee because we needed a shut-off valve and various other things. The company returned Wednesday with the water heater they had to have “shipped” in. The water heater was installed, but they left my utility room a mess with water and dirt. The technician was not very polite, and complained about the warranty company to us.
The second problem occured when we hooked our hose up for the first time this spring. Water was leaking in our basement. When we called and the same rude technician came out I anticipated trouble. The technician (that I intentionally DO NOT CALL a contractor)called after leaving and speaking with 2-10. Of course this was not covered because the burden was on us to prove that, in fact the hose was NOT hooked up during the winter.
I felt like I was on some daytime court show. The burden of proof was on us. Needless to say we will not be renewing with this warranty company. And no we still can’t water our garden or wash our cars at home.
This outfit is terrible. You need to realize that when you use one of these companies, the contractor that responds to your problem is working for the warranty company, not for you. Therefore they don’t have the incentive to please you that they would were they working for you – and neither 2-10 nor their contractors give a rat’s pitoot about fixing your problem in any way but the cheapest way possible. I believe they escape state insurance company regulation because they are “warranty” – not “insurance” companies.
2-10 came with our house when we bought it in 1998, and because the house was 15 years old we figured there would be some problems (HVAC, appliances, etc) so we paid the premiums. I can now say after 11 years we have not saved a nickel, and we would have been better off losing them in the first place.
We have had recurrent problems with our HVACs, and that is because they patched them up as cheaply as possible, and when they finally needed replaced they put in inferior products. We finally just put in new stuff so we have quality without breakdowns in the summer and winter. When our 9 year-old refigerator failed last year (just before Christmas) it tood 9 visits by 4 contractors to fix a simple problem (the first guy was working out of the trunk of his car with out-of-state plates, and his career goal was to open a Middle Eastern restaurant).
They deal mainly with bottom-of-the-barrel contractors, because the quality ones in Raleigh usually will not deal with them. We have had days go by with no action, only to be told when we call that we told the contractor not to come, or that we were uncooperative, or some other lie. (Of course 2-10 never contacted us to find out how they could help fix the problem.) We have caught both 2-10 and their contractors in lies, but of course it’s not always possible to tell for sure who is lying when they tell us what someone else said. Last December in a cold snap our compressor fan motor failed – their contractor told me the part was not in stock and would take several days to obtain, but my 95 year-old Mom was staying with us and we needed heat. I called the outfit that had put in the equipment and they found the part in 20 minutes and offered to do the repair that day. I called the 2-10 contractor to tell the girl on the phone where to find the part, but she told me the owner was not available, she would need his permission to get the part, and he was in a meeting until late afternoon (on a Friday) and had no cell phone(!) Obviously were this outfit in control there would be no repair before the weekend. I thus told my company to do the repair. When I told the person at 2-10 (the assistant to the executive to whom I had already complained because of the way we were being treated) she berated me for going outside the company – she cared not a hoot about our being repeatedly lied to by their contractor and then stiffed when we needed help.
We are now in the midst of another refrig breakdown. We called them on a Sunday. The contractor they contacted called me Monday at 8 AM and said they would be there at 11. They never showed up. They left me a message on my cell phone that they would be there at 2. We called 2-10 at 4 when they failed to show, who told us the contractor said we demanded a precise time and that they could not satify us (a complete lie).
That is what you are dealing with when you have this outfit. These are only a few examples. You get a sick feeling in your stomach when you need to call them. You are much better off hiring a quality contractor, paying their fees, and getting decent work in the first place. Obviously we will no longer throw good money after bad.
and there price for basic service is $589. no add ons. And they never have antone to do the service work company is a joke and full of liars
They delay showing up and when they do show up they find ways not to replace faulty equipment. I have replaced all of the following covered items myself after paying the service fee. 1. Bathroom heater/fan vent. 2. Kitchen Range Hood fan vent. 3. Hot Water Heater.
But most of all the AC unit has a leak and has been serviced five times in two years and they say nothing is wrong even after the service tech sent us an email that the evaporator coil has a leak. This is after upgrading our coverage for energy star AC replacement.
I’ve had 2 yrs with this company and so far no problems when I’ve had to call for service. The techs they send out have been very prompt in repairing whatever the problem was. Last year my fridgerator was giving me problems and I did have to call for a 2nd tech to come out but as soon as he determined it had to be replaced, 2-10 warranty sent me the value of my old fridgerator which covered me getting a new one. Overall, customer service has never been rude to me.
OMG!!!!! What a waste of my TIME and money! We bought the warranty with 2-10 last year b/c our realtor suggested that it would be a good investment with a 13 yr. old home. Apparently, we had not read this site prior to our purchase of the warranty. Getting the hot water heater replaced and covered took numerous phone calls and a lot of “wait” time. Finally, it was covered. They sent some technicians that truly need to be re-certified or something. This last time on the phone (one hour) I had to explain to the person that our garden tub was not outside (for the 3rd time) and that it was located inside on the second floor. They still didn’t cover the claim of the tub valve being replaced. WE WILL NOT BE RENEWING OUR COVERAGE! We will save the money and spend it on repairs without the hassle of dealing with this extremely rude and ridiculous company.
I had a plumbing problem and was told it is not covered under warranty.
I am in Huntsville, AL. Over all my experiences with 2-10 have been alright. Not great but not terrible. Anytime I had plumbing problems they were great but when my AC went out it took almost a year and a half before they would finally replace it. It seemed about every 3-4 months it would quit working and they would send someone to patch it up. Finally, one contractor basically said; look – we can’t just patch it up. It will have to be replaced, great for me! Well, 2-10 didn’t like that idea; so it was a huge hassle before they would finally agree to replacing it. Now its 2009 and I never got a renewal notice in the mail, why? Because I am now on the “Do not renew” list! They never told me why (my guess would be because they had to shell out some money) and they never sent me a notice. So my tip anyone out there looking for a warranty service, 2-10 is alright as long as nothing huge goes wrong because when it does; its over. They’ll fix it and quit it No warranty company is perfect but the way they do business is very shady and their customer service is baaaaaaaad
In general, they provide exceptionally poor service. You are required to use the providers which they work with. Sometimes this is okay, sometimes it is quite bad. Claims are arbitrarily refused. I would not use this company. The reviews on this site are quite accurate.
Had an AC problem in my Studio /Office. My home has had a contract for 3 years with 2-10 and work had been done in the office which they covered. A contractor was sent within 48 hrs. He opened the rooftop AC unit and said it had a big leak and the evaporative coil had to be replaced (approximate cost $1500). The service tech wrote guest house on the work order. I received a message the next day from 2-10 stating that my claim was not covered. After calling their authorizations department they told me guest houses are not covered. I called the AC tech stating that this was not a guest house and the order originally stated Studio/Office. He said it was not his problem and I should take it up with 2-10. He finally agreed to call 2-10 and tell them it in fact was not a guest house, but that the walls did not touch. Needless to say they refused to cover the repair. I offered to provide proof that the structure referred to was part of the original home and within the perimeter of the original foundation. A breezeway was removed connecting the room to make it soundproof. They claimed if the walls don’t touch they will not treat it as part of the the main house. I asked where that was written? 2-10 said they went by the national construction code. (this is not mentioned in the contract). They also stated that if everything was written the contract would be hundreds of pages. After this disappointing call I hired my own AC Contractor, Air Pro of Canyon Country CA 91351. He showed up immediately diagnosed the problem as a small leak, soldered the leak filled it with CO2 at 300 pounds pressure and let it sit for 3 days to make sure it was not leaking. The unit did not leak and he filled it with freon and the total charge was $375. I will never do business with 2-10 HBW or their contractor (Violin Heating and Air Conditioning) again.
This company has taken over a month to repair my AC. They were sending people from out of my state to work on the AC, when those people could get to it. One man they sent out did not even know what he was doing, he took my $65, but never even filed a claim. I insisted I get another contractor with 2-10, that was in my state. They finally agreed. If you call to complain with 2-10, they say have you called the contactor? They keep sending me renewal notices–Never!
This Home Warranty Corporation has no sense of customer service, they do not listen when you are explaining things. I have come across poor customer service. But, there has been no customer service quite as consistently rude as 2-10 home warranty. Their value and mission seems to center around I can’t, I won’t, and NO.
Our air conditioning coil went out in 100+ degree weather. We had a guest that required a breathing device and needed it to be cool. We called and spoke with someone after being on hold for more than 20 min. They referred us to our policy and told us to visit the website and 2-10 set up an appointment with a contractor. The contracted company called and said they would have someone come out within the next five-seven days. I asked for something sooner and was given Monday from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. I explained that no one would be home at these times and are other times available. I was then told to just leave my key under the mat. I planned to leave work early as soon as I got the call. Unfortunately, the phone call never came and the technician never showed. I called the sub-contractor and they said they got busy and did not have time to get to us at our scheduled time. I then called 2-10 and asked for another sub-contractor company and was told that I could find my own. I found my own contractor in the phone book called them up. There were several procedures to follow in order to ensure that 2-10 would cover these charges. The company came out and assessed the problem and recharged the unit. I faxed the statement to 2-10, along with the work order number, company number, company name, and our personal info. Needless to say the company refused to cover the cost of the recharge after we paid our “deductible” and followed all of the procedures to a tee. I called to question this and was told that another department needed to handle this problem, then was told that I need to read the policy carefully and follow directions.
To make this even shorter it took us over three months to get the coil replaced in our unit. It took four sub-contractors. (Local sub-contractors refused to work with this company after coming out for diagnoses etc., 2-10 asks to speak to the contractor and of course you’re on hold for 20 plus minutes every time and the contractors don’t have that kind of time to waste) It took bi-daily calls and faxes to the manager. It took three months for use to get a reimbursement for the difference after we paid our deductible for one piece in our unit. We ended up using a great local company.
I would not recommend the home warranty company.
This is the worst company. Horrible customer service and they are out to prevent you any way they can (by fine print exclusions) from getting your claim.
Our air conditioner went out yesterday and we called 2-10 for repairs. Surprise—they had cancelled our contract without telling us!!! When we pressed them for a reason, they told us they didn’t have to give one.
We had several repairs over the past three years (air conditioner, water heater, and pool pump) so they probably thought they weren’t getting their money’s worth out of us.
The water heater took two weeks to get replaced after many calls and the customer service was practically non-existent.
The question begs, with the bulk of the comments here being very negative, what is being done??? Obviously 2-10 doesn’t care enough and is probably too busy raking in $$$ from uneducated members.
I know several friends who have 2-10 warranties and I will ensure they are aware of their shady practices.
This is the first year that I bought the warranty with this company. I had a problem with my A/C. The contractor they sent said that my unit was due to some intentional damage and refused to pay. Useless warranty! Don’t waste your money here.
This company does nothing about contractors that are hours late or never show up at all. I have battled a plumbing problem for 6 weeks now. (other issues in the past too.) Even the highest level of 2-10 Customer Service is just snotty about the problems I described to (Mike x2105. I asked to speak to the next high level and I was told there wasn’t any due to the Holiday. Someone had to be on call if this company was organized and of any quality. I spent 8-10 (Holiday)hours with a problem with their contractors due to lateness, wrong parts (and they were here before) and kids sent to do the job (18-23 at most) that they said were licensed. Not experienced or competent for the job through.
This company does nothing to prevent poor work or contractors leaving customers repeatedly hanging… Our time is worth more than what this company can offer anymore. We need to stop contractors and companies like this from wasting our time. Do not put up with it. Move your home warranty to another company now or hire your own contractors.
Worst warranty company I have ever delt with. I have an A/C problem going on two weeks now. First contractor they sent submitted a work authorization to replace a part. 2-10 did not want to spend the money, did not approve the work and sent out a second “contractor”. These guys showed up in a unmarked car and I could not find any info on their so called company online. They submitted their work authorization and never called me back to let me know anything. Once I tracked them down they made an appointment, then cancelled. The next appointment date they were a no show. I called 2-10 and told them I refused any work from these guys ans they never called back on anything and are liars. They still refuse to let the first company do the work so they can save money while my family suffers now two weeks in Texas heat. They say they have to get the second company’s version..good luck getting ahold of them as I still sit with no air and time lost from work.
Wow, when I thought it couldn’t get any worse! They sent a “buy out” check instead of “reimbursement” after I submitted receipts. Be careful of “Buy out”, you can not submit any other claims on that system. Regardless, it covers less than half the expense. I am in real estate and I will discourage ALL of my clients to stay away from 2-10!
A useless company. Very rude and unwilling to help. Run away from this company. We set up the policy to cover all items in the house. But a year later to file a claim they said we do not have coverage on plus items. Then when we tried to correct the policy they said they will not cover the items. They claimed it was our fault for not correcting the policy. But when approached with the problem at hand they refused to except accountability. One statement was, “Did you really think you were covered with that little of money”. Not, “How can I help you?” Hence my statement, “Useless”!
I renewed my home warranty with 2-10 homw warranty for an additional 2 years. The first time I had an issue they were slow to respond and sent the wrong type of contractor out.
