| Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights

My only complaint is that our premiums have gone up $100 over each of the last 2 years and now by $50 this year.
Do not listen to what they tell you when thinking of signing up with the company. We were given this warranty by the sellers of our home and have had countless problems with them. If something breaks, you still pay a deductible per problem and then they don’t cover but a few things. There is also a grace period for recalls on work that is done and they lie and push their way through this grace period and then say,”We are sorry but the grace period is over for the work and you will have to pay another deductible.” They also stopped working with the company THEY had chosen to fix our air condition. So 6 weeks later, we are now working with company #2 of THEIR choice and the problem still isn’t solved. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND SANITY. CHOOSE ANOTHER COMPANY.
We got our warranty upon moving into our new home, although the home is about 50 years old. 2-10 has been a good company to us. We’ve had to call them out about 6 times this year, and no problems.
HORRIBLE COMPANY!! Do not listen to their lies they tell you when you accept the insurance. They say that they cover all the appliances, hot water heater, and even the ac unit. They never tell you that everything has to be preauthorized and subjected to their approval. Our heat unit went out and we were in the cold for 3 weeks before ever getting an answer from 2-10. They said since we contacted a contractor before ever getting approval then we were not covered. They SUCK!! DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!
My hot water heater blew up and was replaced in 2 days. I was happy with the service. I wish service could be available the same day and the weekend too.
The problem with 2 – 10 seems to be that they have a poor communication policy / practice between itself and the contractors it uses to do the service.
Every time I have had to use the Warranty, it has always taken at least 10 days to complete the service??????
For instance in early summer 2009 my pool filter system (which a 2 – 10 servicers replaced under the warranty 3 years earlier) began to leak at the manifold. Well after 2 weeks of waiting I began to follow up, so I call the servicer Malibu Pools who told me they were waiting for the ok to order the part (which was available at LESLIES Pool Supply 2 Blocks from my house). Well when I contacted 2 10 they told me first they had given the ok to make the repairs and the part was on order!!!!!!! Anyway, it didn’t make me happy to hear 2 separate stories, but I needed to get the leak fixed in order filter my pool. Well 1 week later the repairs weren’t done, so I called 2 – 10, as the weather was warming up. At that point and time the 2 – 10 REP. told me that the part wasn’t covered by the warranty, because their servicer had indicated it was damaged by heat from my pool heater. Well I guess 2 10 didn’t realize I was very capable / knowledgible when it came to pumping systems with 20 plus years of experience! Even if I didn’t have that experience, the fact that the heater is 4′ beyond the filter says it all. For the Heated water to damage the filter it would have to have 1 been before the filter. As it was designed 25 years ago by the pool installers the water comes from the pool to the pump through the filter, then to the heater and back to the pool. By the way did I mention I live in the Lancaster Ca. where I only use the heater 2 times a year when I have Boy Scouts over / not to mention the fact that 2 – 10 replace a stainless steel filter that had been in since 1975, and the one that lasted 3 years was plastic. I followed up with PENTAIR on the heat issue to find out that the information on the heat damage which was given by 2 10 was incorrect. Anyway that was the last straw, I called my pool man and ask him to arrange to get the parts from Leslies Pool Supply and make the repairs, he came over that afternoon to find the repairs were done?????? Well I guess if you like to wait and fight for what you paid for then 2 10 would be a the warranty company for you. Otherwise I’d look elsewhere like I am doing. 2-10 HB Warranty has seen the last of my money, I recommend the rest of their policy holders do the same.
Terrible company. Terrible service.
Called on a Wednesday because our A/C unit (which is in the attic) was leaking through the drywall onto our brand new floors. By Friday their contractor never called. I called back and their representative said that “Oh, that contractor doesn’t even service your area.” Gee whiz, thanks. Contractor number 2 came on Friday and needed to come back on Monday between 4 and 5.
The 4 o’clock hour comes and goes. We call. The contractor said that 2-10 never approved the claim. We missed the appointment and had to reschedule for a week and a half later.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.
I called because my dishwasher stopped working. The first time, the repairman said he spent $800 in parts to fix the dishwasher although he recommended replacement, 2-10 said no. The second time it stopped working, I called and they sent a repairman, the repairman said the drain had been removed and 2-10 would not cover it. I called 2-10 to complain and they said I had OBVIOUSLY removed my dishwasher drain….WHAT? I don’t even know what a drain in a dishwasher is and ask them why in the world would I do this? They persisted that I had tampered with my dishwasher and I told them the only people who had EVER worked on my dishwasher were the people that THEY sent out. So, they collected my money and I’m left with a dishwasher that does not work. That was 6 months ago, my washing machine is leaking water and I have to call them knowing that they’ll probably come up with another excuse to not fix it….I googled 2-10 and their website will not come up…Weird. As soon as my contract is up, I’m changing compaines….Buyer Beware!!!
HORRIBLE company!
I have been without A/C for over a week now! My A/C broke on Saturday, they sent out a contractor on THURSDAY to fix the problem. He did not fix it after being 3 hours late to the call! I called back and they sent THE SAME GUY on Saturday morning! He was kind enough to call at 7:30am to wake the entire house and let us know he would be coming in the next two hours!! Of course he spent two hours ‘fixing’ it again and it STILL does not work! I contacted 2-10 and they told me they still had to use the same contractor unless I was willing to pay another $50 to have a different contractor fix the problem.
AVOID USING THIS COMPANY! THEY ARE TERRIBLE!!!
HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE!! THIS WOULD BE THE LAST COMPANY I WENT WITH. When we purchased our home the warranty came with it. It sounds great but ended up the biggest joke ever! The sewer system backed up–they told us it would be 2 days before a company could get here. The A/C went out–they told us SIX days before a company could be here. It just kept getting worse and worse. The deductibles also kept increasing! $75.00 was our final deductible. FORGET IT. They “FORGOT” to contact us for renewel and I laughed at them when they called to renew “saying they were ranked #1 in the country.” 2-10 is a joke!
Here, in the Southwest, A/C goes down all summer. So far 2-10 has been a god send. I think that they are pretty good and as timely as one can be. The one time that I DID NOT use them it ended up costing me $700.
I believe that the area of the country that you are in really effects the service that you get. It seems that most of the complaints are coming from the Southeast. Here in AZ they have been good.
Just make sure to call them first or nothing gets covered.
My fridge went out on July 11th. I called the 2-10 and placed a claim. June 15th a contractor came out and replaced a defrost timer. The fridge still wasn’t cooling. June 17th they sent another contractor. He said that ice had built up in the freezer drain and he cleaned the ice out. He said that it should be cooled down in a couple hours, but that the fridge was on its last leg. Over 5 hours later the fridge still was not cooling. I called 2-10 again, and what do they want to do send another contractor out on Monday!?! I have been without a fridge for a week now. All my food spoiled which they do not cover food spoilage and they just keep wanting to send different contractors out. They refuse to buy a new fridge. DO NOT GET THIS COVERAGE NO MATTER WHAT THE REALTORS TELL YOU.
My A/C compressor failed 28 days ago, today it was replaced.
No one returns any phone calls. Promises that customer service supervisors will return my calls never happen. Please use another company, this is what we intend to do when our contract expires with them.
I am not sure how this company stays in business??? The customer service is horrible and their excuses for not covering your claim are ranging from lies to made up limitations. By the way they told us that our AC claim will not be covered since they made a mistake which they were not aware of since 2003 (another lie). They knew the facts but just kept collecting our money. We are paying for regular maintanace to our duct system and AC so this problem is not caused by lack of resposibility from our site. By the way if you think that customer service is there for you as a customer you are in for rude awakening with this excuse for a business.
Here’s something you might not know- with a new house, the Builder’s Warranty for 10 years is separate from the warranty that you buy. Even if you don’t buy their warranty, a new house will still be covered under the Builder’s Warranty for 10 years- 1 years for cosmetic, 2 years for HVAC, plumbing and electrical and 10 years for structural.
So, my suggestion is- don’t renew if you own a new home because it’s not worth it. Most small problems show up in the beginning of ownership. It’s the big stuff that you’ll want to have a good warranty.
This company made my bloodpressure sky high. Hold time on avg is about 25 minutes. Disconnected calls. Complete runaround on every issues. I averaged a call to follow up every 2 days for 2 months. It was absolutely necessary too. Incredible delays with no real reason. Contractors all seem to be home-based with no real initiative to repsond to calls or questions. I’ve never been so frustrated. DO not pay the deductible up front. Its 80.00. Ask for the deductible to be built into the invoice. I had a contractor dissapear and Im glad he didnt collect the 80 up front. It would have been my loss Im sure. My name is not accurate because i’ve worked so hard to have my claim honored I actually fear reprisal if 2-10 sees my name w/ a negative review.
They are the worst! They said I have a zone damper system that is NOT covered by them after 3 weeks and >15 calls. Had I know I was not covered I would have sought an alternate insurer and not suffered in the heat for 20 days..
THIS COMPANY IS A JOKE! I HAVE A PREGNANT WIFE AND A 6 MONTH OLD IN THE HOUSE AND MY A/C WENT OUT. IT WAS 103 DEGREES OUTSIDE AND YOU CAN IMAGINE HOW HOT IT WAS INSIDE. I CALLED TO GET SERVICE AND THEY TOLD ME THEY HAD A COMPANY COMING OUT. AFTER 6 HOURS I CALLED THE COMPANY AND THEY SAID THAT THEY HAD NEVER BEEN CONTACTED. I CALLED AGAIN THE NEXT DAY AND….. SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN! 2 DAYS OF 103 DEGREE WEATHER AND NO HELP FROM THESE GUYS. I AM STILL NOT FIXED OR HAVE BEEN CONTACTED BY ANY CONTRACTOR. DO NOT SPEND THE MONEY ON THESE GUYS…. THEY ARE WORTHLESS!
We are a contractor who USED to represent 2-10. We terminated our relationship because the poor customer service they gave to the homeowners. Our service cost are higher-we actually own a real business and do not work out of our garage-so we were usually requested to contact the homeowner as the “problem solver”-when other contractors were not able to make the repairs or satisfy the homeowner. that being the case, I was always placed in the middle as their contractor and proper repairs that the homeowner SHOULD have received. This insurance company encourages contractors to cut costs-saving money is the motive-the homeowner is not. In addition what they are willing to pay the contractor is ridiculous! Buyer beware-and contractors-be careful-times are tough currently I know-but to be jacked around by this company is not worth it!
I agree with most people on this site; their customer service department leaves a lot to be desired. I purchased my new home in 2004 and have religiously renewed my warranty each year.
I’ve never contacted them until now, and at first they tried to give me the run around. My a/c went out and I was unable to find my 2009 agreement and the rep said he couldn’t find it by my address. I was instructed to call accounts payable and be prepared to show proof of payment. Thank goodness for online banking! Honestly, the accounts payable rep was very helpful and apologized for the confusion caused by the rude rep that I initially spoke with.
Once they located my account, it was really smooth sailing from that point. Within 10 minutes of filing the claim with 2-10, the local contractor contacted me. By 3 pm the same day, the contractor was at my home. The tech was very kind and seemed knowledable about the system. My coils had frozen over, so the tech turned off the unit and returned the next day to service it (which was a Friday). I paid my $50 service charge and was assured that I would not be charged this again.
The next day, the tech returned and did a test to discover that the coils were leaking. He explained that they would need to be replaced. In the meantime, the unit was operating at full capacity, so my family would not be uncomfortable. Anyway, the contractor contacted 2-10, got the replacement approved and once they order the part, they returned the next week for installation. Now there was a $100 charge to “remove the old freon,” but from what I understand from most people, this service would normally cost upwards of $1800-$2000. With this being the case, I’m basically pleased at the process.
Anyone out there who hates this company as much as I do want to join in a class action law suit?
We just purchased our home and one month later the AC went out we contacted our home warrenty and they did not replace it because they are saying that it was pre-exsiting problem. In which we had an inspection before buying the house and the AC was fine. There service was not great
This company stinks! I have sent in a claim to 2-10 two months ago and have yet to see or hear from the Contractor. The first call to 2-10 is horrible. They make me call the contractor… isn’t that what they are supposed to do? didn’t i pay them for a warranty so i wouldn’t have to do these kind of things. the contractor call nets me a “i never received a work order from 2-10″. my second call to 2-10 at least gets them to resend the work order. that was 1.5 months ago… still no word from contractor. Today’s call to 2-10 resulted in “have you called the contractor?” which i responded that it wasn’t my job to do that, it was theirs. They put me on hold to call the contractor, a minute later the phone clicks back over and i hear a cell phone voice mail asking me to leave a message… that’s it… no “I’m sorry we couldn’t get in touch with them”, just click… leave a message. AVOID 2-10 LIKE THE PLAGUE!
I too am having a big issue with 2-10! I bought my house 1 month ago and the AC was working fine. Last week (7 days now!!) the unit went out. 2-10 was contacted and they sent someone out 2 days later. They denied my claim trying to say the problem was pre0existing!!!!!! It worked for the month that I have been there so how is this pre-existing? So I get a 2nd opinion which of course confirms what I was saying. Now 2-10 wants to send someone else out. They are just dragging their feet but I am not going away.
Today, after one week of trying to get assistance from 2-10 to repair a malfunction motor and starting capacitor in our 3 year old air conditioner, we cancelled our home warranty plan with 2-10. Over $500 invested, and the first request for assistance found my wife making multiple calls, a lot of run around, and we finally went to a local repair company and the unit was repaired in 1 hour at a cost of $100. Some of the run arounds were 1. No air conditioning service companies in your area, closest is 2 hours away, and cannot make it for a couple of days, will call you back when we contact them. Never did. 2. We cannot work with any contractor who is not on our plan, by one asssitance, the next stated they could but they needed to contact 2-10. We asked a couple of in town contractor and they refused, as they had previous ecperiences where their reimbursement with 2-10 wer 10% of the actual cost.
Run around after run around. This company should not be in business, but it is stupid people like me, who do not read these postings that keep them afloat.
