Review: As I write this, we're approaching 76 days without hot water in our new home, thanks to American Home Shield. The warranty was a housewarming gift from my parents, and the first and only time we had to use it was when our tankless electric hot water heater went out on December 8 of last year (2015). American Home Shield sent a plumber, who collected a service fee and said he thought it was an electrical problem. The electrician said he thought it was an plumbing problem. A different plumber arrived, collected a second service fee (you're only supposed to pay once), and ordered a new circuit board for the unit. To the plumber's credit, he came over to install it Christmas Eve morning, and everything seemed to be fixed. Less than a week later, the unit stopped working again. The same plumber arrived and said he thought there was nothing wrong with the unit; he thought we were using too much hot water. (We were using the same amount of hot water we'd always used, when the unit had functioned normally.) When the unit kept breaking down, the same plumber came back yet again and said it was an electrical problem. AHS sent a different electrician, who collected still another service fee (the third one we've paid), looked at the machine, and said we needed different breakers. When the machine still didn't work -- and the manufacturer confirmed to me on the phone that the electrician had misread the specs and mistakenly changed the breakers -- the same electrician had to come back and replace the breakers, though he didn't refund our service fee (he told me his paperwork from AHS had told him to collect it). Eventually, I got on the phone with a tech who works for the manufacturer, who concluded the unit needed to be replaced because a water leak was shorting out the circuit board. How did the tech reach this conclusion? I texted him a picture of the rust clearly visible inside the unit. How did four contractors look at the machine and fail to diagnose the leak by looking at the same rust, this tech asked me? I couldn't answer that question. The manufacturer's tech and I reached this conclusion on a Tuesday afternoon, but AHS refused to replace the unit on the tech's say so. Instead, AHS told us we would have to wait for the plumber to call the manufacturer, and then for the plumber to call AHS. We called the plumber on Tuesday. And again on Wednesday. And again on Thursday. And on Friday. We called AHS every day, too. We still have no hot water, and we haven't heard back from anyone. This company is clearly a scam. They farm their work out to incompetent, second rate (and possibly shady) contractors, and the company avoids taking responsibility for anything by having a system in which however many times you call, you will never get the same person twice. The customer service people all claim they've been instructed not to put you through to anyone higher up the company's chain of command. They also claim not to have email addresses or direct telephone lines. Three different customer service representatives told me they were going to resolve our issue this week. One of them called to tell us what we already knew: AHS will replace the unit when it hears from the plumber. We didn't hear back from the other two. This has probably been one of the worst consumer experiences I've ever had. Don't reward this company's bad business practices and dubious ethics. If you need a home warranty -- and odds are, you probably don't -- spend your money elsewhere. Next Tuesday, we will have gone 11 weeks without hot water, thanks to this company.

Review: My initial call was great. The vendor came out as planned. Then I scheduled two more. The AC vendor came out and did not follow up after. The dishwasher appliance repair company did a no show on three calls and they are now trying to collecr a deductible. AHS has promised to have a supervisor call me twice yet nothing. Now they are suggesting I pay the deductible until my issue is resolved. My compressor isn\'t working bur I can\'t put in that request until this is resolved. AHS is siding with their vendor Suretec. I have cameras on my home, the guy never came out. I do not recommend this company. They value their vendors more than their customers

Review: Lets see if this time my hot water heater can be fixed right. Will need my central AC until worked on for a 4th time in 4 years but I'm not sure if I will stay with AHS. I have wires hanging out of the top of my AC unit and it has the same problems year after year. The techs do just enough to get it to work for a little while before breaking again. I am having same issues with my hot water heater as the previous service calls. I have lived in my house only 4 years and it was built in 2001. I am getting tired of these temporary fixes to permanent problems. May need to start looking at other companies. The customer service reps are courteous and friendly to deal with though. Hopefully I wont need to resort to the complaint department.

Review: I called on a Thursday when my A/C went out for the second time in 2 weeks. Had to wait 3 days for someone to come and see about my unit. It is now 5 days latter and still no A/C and it is 100 degree heat here. AHS doesnt call and update you, you have to wait for 20 min to talk to someone, then they act like your crazy for being upset that its going to take a week to get service. Save your money, and take care of things yourself.

Review: I am very well pleased with my latest contractor experience. I was able to get one of the three appliances that I put on one work order repaired on the day I call AHS. The other two were repaired or resolved within the same week. The repairmen are always neat and clean with te rigt tools and do not leave a mess behind. I am always informed about what needs to be done and how long it will take. Parts are ordered and sent to me. There have been few problems over the years. I intend to stay with AHS as thier program works well for me. I reccomend them to other people all the time.

Review: We contacted AHS because we had a problem with our pool. The website was easy to maneuver around and the customer service representative who called us back was very helpful. We were contacted the next day by the selected contractor and they responded to our residence 2 days later. The contractor was knowledgeable and fixed the issue in just a few minutes. I would recommend AHS to my family and friends; in fact my son has AHS for his home warranty company.

Review: I bought a new home and had the previous owners get us a home warranty by AHS. By and large I received excellent service from both AHS and their respective contractors. Wait times on the phone are hit and miss. I had the ceiling fans not working and they replaced them all, which in and of itself pretty much paid for my premium. They took care of all my hidden new home issues with little issues.

Review: People said I was crazy for renewing my home warranty after the first year. But, I'm sure glad I did. I live in a place that charges ridiculous prices for everything...especially home services. Old Republic has been very helpful and has had a repairman at my home every time I've called in an issue. This is saying a lot since the businesses here work "banker's hours." I have even received follow up phone calls to ensure I my issues were taken care of and I was satisfied with the service.

Review: I have had AHS for about 18years and they have been a very good company who have taken good care of our home problems.

Review: Customer service not the best. Could be better. Each contractor sent out did what they were required. I never paid more than my deductible for any service received. I\'ll keep the policy going until I think it\'s not worth it.

Review: My sump pump broke the evening before a storm was supposed to arrive. The AHS representative that I talked to was very understanding. She took ownership of the problem, ensured that I got the help that I needed right away, and followed up with me to let me know that help was on the way. The plumber was quick to respond and did a good job with the replacement.

Review: I had a central heating system (gas) go out in Oct, 2014. The service provider came out and tried to fix the unit but had to order parts. The wrong part came in and we had to reorder again. After several other visits, the unit still would not work correctly. Since the unit was over 20 yrs old, a new unit was ordered. However, the new unit was not installed until January. I did not have heat for almost 3 months in two of the bedrooms.

Review: I called the Lindsey Co. on Monday & was given an appointment the next day. The repairman showed up on time, had his id badge in plain sight, came in & gave the garbage disposal the adjustment that was needed. This took all of ten minutes. He was very polite & knowledgable. Iwas surprised to have the work done so quickly. Especially since I called on a Monday. I thought that the work week would have already been biiked. The lady at Lindsey Co. was very nice. The customer service rep that I talked to was helpful & friendly as always. I never feel that I am asking for something stupid or that I'm imposing.

Review: Our first experience using our AHS warranty came as a perk of our home purchase. Since we bought the house in October, but the year was paid through March, by the previous owner, we got a "free" trial of sorts. Yes, we still paid the service fee, but not the yearly rate. We were pleased with our plumber who helped us fine tune multiple "short sale" home issues. He was knowledgeable, and professional. We were happy with our first experience using the AHS network and it helped us in concluding to renew the existing contract.

Review: I had for 3 years, each year the fee went upo but the service got worst, The doors on my oven fell off, it came with the house, instead of just replacing the very old oven, it cost $260 to repair the very old oven, but if we decided we wanted a new one, they would give us the 260 towards a new one and we would have to pay to have it installed, we were told it would take appox 5 weeks to get in the parts for the oven, they had to send the hinges off somewhere to get them made, because of the age of the oven, the parts could not be found anywhere, these people appparently takes your money and when you their services, they pretty much screw you over. I canceleld them when renewal time came around.

Review: We've been with AHS for several years now and the money we have paid them has been well worth it and has saved us a ton of money. This year alone, we had work done on our fridge, washing machine, and airconditioner where the outside unit had to be replaced. That item alone would have cost us around $2500 (plus labor) if we were to pay for it ourselves, but because of AHS, we only paid the service fee of $75. Our yearly cost with our AHS contract is around $575, well below the cost of our airconditioning repair. As in any company, there is always room for improvement and I'm sure AHS is aware of that, but for the service they provide and the cost they charge for that service, they are certainly well worth the money.

Review: The technicians that came on our expedited call when our A/C was not cooling were so professional. They kept us informed of everything they were doing. They were so courteous and respectful. If we ever have to have another service call, I can only hope we get the same technicians. High praises for them.

Review: Too bad there is no ZERO star rating. Small leak was heard behind utility room wall. Turned off water at curb and called AHS on a Wednesday morning. First available contractor couldn't come until Friday. He didn't show up. After being told someone would show up on Saturday and again on Monday, I was finally given permission to call anyone I wanted on Tuesday. Called local plumber and had leak fixed same day. TOTAL 6 days without any water for bathing, toilets, cooking and drinking. Try carrying two buckets of water every time you want to use the toilet. Try going to your local YMCA to shower every day. HERE's THE ULTIMATE INSULT - they won't pay the $175 bill because the plumber did not call AHS first. I pay around $82/mo. I need about 3 more pages to list problems with replacing a dishwasher, a/c unit, hot water heater and a clothes dryer.

Review: We purchased a home protection policy through American Home Shield when we purchased our home. Shortly after our purchase, we began to have issues with our central heat and air. We contacted AHS, and a contracted heat and air technician was sent. He misdiagnosed our problem on multiple visits, each costing us $75. He finally determined that we were going to need a new interior unit. We paid our portion of the cost, the unit was installed… and still, our unit did not work properly. We called the repair man back several more times, paying several more copays before he determined we also needed a new exterior unit. We paid our portion and still… our unit did not work properly. We called the repair man several more times, where he admitted he had wired the unit wrong and had the AC and heat running simultaneously, etc, etc. Finally, we asked AHS to send a different repair man, as we had lost all confidence in the first. The second repair man came out, looked over the interior unit only, and told us there had been a wiring issue on the interior unit and that the bulb had been placed in the incorrect position. Again, we paid our $75 copay, but still… our unit did not work properly. We called the second repair man back again, and this time he determined that the exterior coils had a restriction due to faulty installation and would need to be replaced. New coils were ordered and we waited, and waited, and waited. But still, we have not had our heater repaired, although the coils are now in. The repairman was scheduled to come today between 8-12, so… I took the day off of work= 8 hours of PTO, only to have the repair man not show up. I've now been on hold with AHS CS for 30minutes and it's freezing outside and in our house, all while our entire family battles the flu. We asked that we pay no more out of pocket expense for our heater repair as we were told by the AHS contracted repair man that our issues are sue to faulty installation, but all we were told was that the repair man hadn't reported that to AHS. AHS refused to clarify with the repair man IF the issues we are having are due to faulty installation. The Complaint Resolution Specialist at AHS stopped returning our phone calls. This experience with AHS has been an absolute nightmare! Never again would I give my business to this company.
