Important Tips On Buying A Home Warranty In NC

Home appliances and systems tend to get strained during these weather fluctuations. North Carolina witnesses severe rainfall yearly and bears the brunt of many thunderstorms. The state is also prone to high temperatures in the summer and lower temperatures in the winter. We've curated the data for the weather conditions in the NC state; take a look:

Average Rainfall Average Sunlight General Climate Conditions Tropical Cyclones
48 inches/ Year 213 Sunny Days/ Year
  • Hot Summers (High)
  • Severe Thunderstorms
  • Mild Winters
Tropical Storm - Fred (2021)

Extreme heat or cold causes electrical items to overheat and accelerate their depreciation. To protect your home systems & appliances, investing in the perfect home warranty company is the best bet. However, before deciding on a home warranty purchase, we recommend considering the following essential tips.

  1. Start by educating yourself about the ins and outs of home warranties. Make sure you understand precisely what home warranties cover and what they exclude.
  2. Has your home been inspected to get a clean chit about your items' functionality and avoid claim denials? If not, get the inspection done.
  3. Choose a basic or customizable plan if you require coverage for just a few items. If you own an older home, get the comprehensive coverage option to have protection in place for all vulnerable items, primarily electrical and plumbing systems.
  4. Carefully read and understand your home warranty contract before signing. If you don't understand any legal jargon in the contract, take an attorney's help.

FAQs

How Can Home Warranties Help Me Save Money?

Home warranties are service contracts offering discounted repair and replacement services. Many homeowners and real estate agents in North Carolina seek the protection of home warranties in case of unexpected and expensive repairs.

A typical home warranty policy’s annual premium can cost you $350-700, with a monthly premium of $30-$75. The average repair cost of a standard appliance like a washing machine can range from $130-$500, and the replacement cost can be upwards of $1000. Upon comparing the potential costs of breakdowns, you’ll find that a home warranty coverage can help you if or when you face unexpected expenses and save you thousands of dollars.

Which Is The Best Home Warranty Company In NC?

Many top home warranty companies offer their services in North Carolina. Companies like AHS and Choice offer comprehensive coverage and have a vast network of trained professionals who can provide quality service.

If you want to look for other options, you could look up and research the top companies in your area and pick the one that best serves your needs.

Is A Home Warranty In North Carolina Available To Homebuyers Only?

No, while homebuyers can buy home warranties, they are also available for homeowners, sellers, and real estate agents.

What Coverage Options Are Most Important In NC?

Home warranty plans range from basic to comprehensive, with the choice to add optional add-ons. Your pick of coverage options should depend on your needs.

For example, if you own an older home with most elements vulnerable to mechanical failures, we recommend a comprehensive plan to cover as many items as possible. On the other hand, if you are just concerned about specific items, try searching for and picking a customizable coverage option.

What Are The Coverage Limits?

All home warranty companies have a ceiling or coverage limit to the amount they are willing to spend. Unfortunately, any amount exceeding the set limit will have to be spent out of your pocket.

On average, home warranty companies, on average, set $1500 for systems and $2000 or more for appliances. Some companies have specific limits for each coverage option. For example, AHS has a limit of $1000 for plumbing systems while 2-10 home warranty allots $2000 for the same. You can find this information in sample contracts of the respective companies.

What Is A Home Warranty Service Fee?

A home warranty service fee is the amount you pay to the service technician that visits your home to diagnose and repair the problem you are facing. This fee is also a deductible, trade call, or service call fee.

Do I Need A Home Inspection Before Enrolling In Coverage?

Most home warranty companies do not mandate a home inspection, except a few, especially for purchasing a real estate plan. We recommend undergoing a home inspection, in any case, to prove that your items don’t have any pre-existing conditions and increase your chances of a successful claims process.

How Soon Can I Submit Claims After Purchasing A Home Warranty?

Most home warranty companies have a 30-day waiting period before the coverage begins. However, some may have shorter waiting periods. Check with your home warranty provider or go through the fine print of your company to understand more about your warranty terms.

I have been without a washing machine since July6. I purchased the extended warranty through Lowes. The part is not expected until September 8, if then. I notified Lowes the middle of August. You can not get anywhere with the phone service. You can only contact them via email. It takes days for them to reply. I am going on week three with emails and yes, I have been without a washing machine for two months. Poor customer service!

Refused to pay contractor after they called the contractor to set up the appointment to repair my garage door. Stating that the door was not covered..My warranty states the door covered. Why would a company set up a contractor if the items not covered. I had to pay H** $80.06 to set up the repair and then I had to pay the contractor $285.00 to repair the door..This company is peddling false advertisement to the public..it is a total rip off.

American Home Shield sent A******* A** H****** and C****** Inc to service my central air unit. The Technician observed the unit and immediately identified the issue. He replaced the part and advised that all should go well and it has. He also gave me information as to what I can expect in the future as it pertained to repairs. He left a complete receipt outlining the work he did, his card and advice about other services offering warranty protection. He was friendly, informative and professional at all times. I would request A******* A** H****** and C****** again and again with the request that the same technician be dispatched to provide service.

Do not buy a Lowes extended warranty! They never approve your claims no matter what issues arise. Save your money! I filed a claim because my bleach dispenser rusted my washer. After I submitted my claim, they deny the claim because they don\'t cover rust pair.

Had a failed HVAC system on 25 Jun. Opened an AHS Service Request 26 Jun. Assigned contractor was closed until 27 Jun. Earliest day for service visit was 29 Jun. Attempts to contact AHS by phone was quite a challenge. It doesn\'t matter what number you call, you will talk to a bot. When you get lucky to speak to a human, they are really willing to help limited only by AHS systems and processes. Overall, my experience thus far has been less than satisfactory. Even a simple phone call to talk to a human proved challenging and extremely frustrating, particularly when you need their help the most. Currently on the market for alternative warranty providers.

I called AHS, the representative verified my information, she followed up with a confirmation email, booked a contractor, they called me, we scheduled a time, they came and dud the repair and it was done, all for about 15 minutes of my time on the phone including waiting time on hold to reach a representative. After my Credit Card was hacked, we made a decision of not paying anything through auto pay again. AHS has harassed us by calling a least twice a day, texting at least once and emailing all in the same day for the last three weeks. I have called explaining the situation several times and continue to receive the above, even after mailing the payment in. After calling and asking for a reminder so that I can make my payments in a timely manner, I was told that this was not possible. I was also told that if I was to cancel my contract with them (due to the harassing calls), that it would cost me twice of what I owed on the contract. After explaining that the calls needed to stop, I was told that their computers generate who is called. This is harassment at its finest. After 14 years with the company, when my contract is up, I will definitely be taking our business elsewhere. It is a real same because I would talk AHS up to everyone. Now I will be warning everyone. SO if nothing else, when and if you go to AHS, beware!
