Home warranty is a complex insurance product. Unlike home insurance, it does not provide blanket coverage for all appliances. Pre-existing conditions and problems resulting from lack of maintenance of appliance are are generally not covered by home warranty companies. Home warranty sellers may not state these factors clearly, and this will create dissatisfaction among customers. Due to these factors, you will see many negative reviews here. Don't be intimidated by some negative reviews here. If you have maintained your appliances in good condition and go with a reputed home warranty provider, your coverage will be fine. |
We do not endorse any company in particular, however you should ignore the reviews that are overly negative or positive. Such reviews are not likely to offer a balanced view and some of them could be fake reviews posted to promote or demote a company. It is always a good idea to check BBB ratings and make sure the company is licensed to do business in your State by contacting State Insurance Commission. Try to avoid paying annual premium and keep your cancellation rights

I bought a home in Dec 2008 with warranty from Warrantech. The brocure I was given stated that they would repair/replace any appliance or item up to $1500.00 per item. Soon after, I received THEIR TRUE WARRANTY in the mail ( 11 page booklet with all of their stipulations ). In May 2009 my gas oven quit working and they sent a Sears repairman out and I paid a $50.00 deductable. He said the control for oven was bad. After many weeks of waiting I called Warrantech to see the status of my repair. They said parts were no longer available and they would not replace the oven and for me to check page 10 of their warranty which states they are not liable for no parts available and ALL they would do is refund me a PRO-RATED REFUND. In the mean time my garbage disposal quit working and I called for repair of this. The repairman said the disposal need to be replaced and I paid another $50.00 deductable. NUMEROUS CALLS AND RUN AROUNDS STILL NO DISPOSAL FIXED/REPLACED. My last conversation with them they tried to throw it back on realator for not explaining all of THEIR FINE PRINT !!! I have asked to speak with supervisors and been told they are not available and to leave voice mails which I have done but NO-ONE calles me back. I feel this company is a RIP-OFF and should be put out of business ! ! !
This company needs to review its recorded messages and give better options before ending your call. The contact number given for your service provider is still their Customer Service number. You have to try different options to figure out the right one to reach an operator.
The first service was very minor but went well without a hitch.
Unfortunately, for my second service I was sent a service man who was unable to figure out what to do in connection with the Central Air not cooling evenly throughout the house. He fiddled with different things and ended up turning off the pilot light on the Hot Water Heater, unknown to us at the time. He eventually said the Freon was low and he went on to ‘top’ it’. About six hours after he left we totally ran out of hot water. All attempts to reach him that Saturday or Sunday or his company failed. On Monday I was able to reach Warrantech but the operator insisted I had to contact Sears ,the service provider,or put in a new service order and pay my deductible of $50.00. I refused and instead contacted Sears who sent another technician. The new technician confirmed that the the pilot light on the Hot Water Heater was out but he was not authorized to re-light it. This was Monday evening. We went back and forth over who is responsible up till Wednesday without any success. Finally, on Thursday night my husband called a local plummber to re-light the pilot light at our own expense.
I am glad I had that experience because I was just considering using Warrantech for another house we own. I will stick with them for the next few months(July – November) when the plan runs out. I will be better off putting my $399.99 for the yearly premium in a savings account plus the $50.00 deductibe and paying up for my repair services as they come up. Thank you.
I submitted a claim in March for my central air unit and have yet to be reimbursed. I have been calling weekly and I’m constantly getting the run around. The customer service reps know my voice. I can never speak to a supervisor and I always leave messages. I’m alwalys told that Wayne is taking care of my problem. This company is a ripoff. I will file a complaint with the Better Buisness Bureau.
I placed a call in for a water heater repair after the tech came out and looked at the wall for an hour he said it couldnt be fixed I had to call the warranty company to find out what step I had to take from their so $50 to pay some no name with his GED to tell me my water heater “looks broken” they didnt know I ended buying and installing the heater myself and sent them the reciept 6 weeks later I recieved a small portion of my money back for the work I had done myself Im glad this warranty was paid for by the seller of the home if I would have paid that kind of money and recieved this service I would be losing it!!!!!!
I had a problem with my A/C not coming on about a month after I bought my home so I called the warranty co. Warrantech. I wasn’t sure I this worked but the customer service rep was very helpful and she take my info and had a service tech call me and he made an appointment to come look at my a/c the next morning. The service tech was on time and found out after a couple of tests that someone had unplugged the blower somehow and this was the problem. I couldn’t believe I had to call a service tech to figure this out for me. Now less than a month later we get a cold front and now I need to turn on the furance and guess what it won’t turn on either! so I call Warrantech and had another service tech come out. This guy was very friendly and knowledgeable. I was afraid he was about to tell me the heat exchanger was cracked or something and I need a whole new furance, but he found a bird’s nest in the flue pipe and this was causing a sensor to trip and turn off the furance as a safety measure. Warrantech has good honest service tech’s working with them. I am glad that we choose them.
Have an older furnace that went out in extreme cold and called warrantech for help. They got someone right out and he identified that the main control board had gone out, but that the parts were obsolete and I would have to get a new furnace. Warrantech denied this claim and said its their discretion to replace anything and that I would be denied replacement coverage. Guy on the phone was very short with me and when I asked to speak to a supervisor he said I would just be told the same thing and didn’t transfer me. They still have a chance to make this right but at this time I would definetly say buyer beware, because this isn’t how their policies are shown on their website or brochure and this company seems to be very suspect!!!! BE CAREFUL!!
Oh, I have a 2 year old daughter that will probably have to stay at her grandparents house because her own home is too cold due to warrantech’s business decisions.
I bought a Warrentech warranty for my 50″ DLP HDTV, a 5 year lamp protection warranty.
Three years goes by and the lamp on my tv is dying, so I call Warrantech’s customer service line. They inform me that I filled out the price of the television wrong when I registered the warranty, and that I would have to fax them an invoice of the television purchase to fix it before getting help. After finding a 3 year old invoice, I fax it to them. I call after faxing it to make sure they received it, and confirmed I sent it to the right number (despite a rather rude CS agent telling me there was no need for me to call). I’m told to wait 3-5 days for them to make the change on my warranty. I wait 5 days and call back, and there is no change. They tell me “things get backed up this time of year” and to wait longer. I wait three weeks. I call back, still no change, and they say they have no record of me even sending it. At this point I’m pretty angry, but still keep my calm and just resend the invoice through fax, and afterwards call back to make sure they receive it. A CS agent confirms they received it this time, and tells me to wait 24 hours for it to change, that he “talked to a supervisor who says he’ll fast track it”. I wait 24 hours and call back. No change. I’m told it will take another 48 hours. I wait 48 hours and call back. No change. I’m told to wait 3-5 days. Can you see where this is going? It’s now been over a month and I have yet to even have a new lamp shipped out to me, and they are NOW saying that they also need an invoice receipt of the actual warranty I purchased (despite the fact it says nowhere in the contract, and the fact I registered it within 10 days of purchase like they demand). Any attempt to speak to a supervisor (even the one who was supposedly “Fast tracking” my change) is either met with them saying none are available, or I’m even hung up on. It is my firm belief that this company is hopelessly stalling out customers to avoid paying off on warranties, and you should avoid them like the plague. I have filed a claim with the BBB but I honestly don’t expect any help.
I used Warrantech to cover a rental property of mine. The dishwasher started leaking. I contacted Warrantech for a claim. They sent out Sears to fix it. The tech told me the water tank was leaking and that GE does not make parts for the dishwasher anymore. Warrantech told me that they only cover mechanical parts on appliances. They said the water tank on the dishwasher is a structural part and they will not cover replacement. They have horrible customer service and they never have a supervisor to speak to. I highly recommend against using Warrantech.
[...] Warrantech home warranty isn’t the only company seeing a brighter future in the warranty [...]
When we bought our home, the seller purchased the warranty for us. The first time we had trouble with our home A/C, Warrentech did an okay job getting someone out in a timely manner. Then, 2 days before our warranty expired, the coil on the A/C unit went out. Since we were still under contract, we called Warrantech. THIS WENT ON FOR MONTHS. They never had a manager to speak with and customer service was horrible. Finally my husband contacted the corporate office. It was 6 months + before the A/C unit was actually fixed. I would never recommend this company. In fact, when we sell our house, we will use someone else.
I’m surprised by the previous reviews. We bought a 25 year old house with mostly original appliance. We had problems with plugged toilets, heating/ac thermostat and clothes washer. Service man was out within a day and repaired toilet same day. The thermostat took three trips to solve, but all I paid was the $50 deductible. The washer was beyond repair and they offered an equivalent one in its place. We chose to upgrade and they paid us the wholesale price of the offered washer – not a good deal for us, but a fair one considering.
On the other hand dealing with the company itself was a service nightmare. The cash payment came, but not until I made many follow up calls – a different person and story each time. Follow ups to service are impossible over the phone – they have an 800 number and the answer to any question is to call the service company, but the number for the service company is the same 800 number with long wait times.
In summary, the head office is awful, but the repair service received was excellent.
I have had these guys for a year now. The first A/C problem – took 48 hrs for the service guy to com – imagine in summer not having A/C for 48 hrs. The guy charged 90$ for a service call – which is 20$ more than the average. The servic is poor – the first thing they try to do rather than help you is find a way not to pay – they tell you to look at the fine print. Teh technician are very good at poinintng out what page and what line of the booklet it says “WE DO NOT COVER” so what you end up with is an expensive repair job. The second problem happended yesterday. The A/C again – i called a couple of companies to see what they cost – 60$ for a service call from a big company in town. They came by the same day and took care of it. I called the warranty company to see if they reimburse you. The first thing is said was you should have called us first and read out the line where it says that if i get it fixed by someone else even if they are certified then “WE DO NOT COVER”. When i explained to him that these guys are 20-30 dollars cheaper and they are the major company in town and are certified. He said it is in the warranty card. I would recommend that you shop elsewhere for your warranty company.
Warrentech Home Warranty needs to be checked out with the Better Business Bureau! I, like my other reviewers, have been getting the run around through the customer service department. This company constantly tells me that calls are forthcoming, and the “manager” is always away from his desk or out. As I had a problem with my air conditioner, my initial call wasn’t bad. However, as no service provider was ever contacted about the issue, I called back was told that the request for service would have to be re-done. I said fine, and continued to wait as the temperatures soared to 90 degrees in my home. I waited for 2 days and called back to see what the hold up on service was, and was informed by a very rude representative that my air conditioner issue was not covered by the policy, something that could have been told to me on the first time I called. I asked to speak with a supervisor and that was 5 days ago. I am still waiting for the secret supervisor to call and speak with me regarding the issue. In the meantime, I have called an air conditioning company and are just paying for repairs.I will never use this company again!
